Physical specimen Chandler Jones enters 2012 NFL Draft
In lieu of another year of development at Syracuse, junior defensive end Chandler Jones will enter the 2012 NFL Draft, according to the school.
Jones, who noted he will graduate in May, played just seven games this season after suffering a leg injury in the season opener. Still, Jones earned first-team all-conference honors after finishing with 38 tackles, 4.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception.
There are several factors that should benefit Jones in the draft process. The 6-foot-5, 265-pound Jones has rare length for the position and great straight-forward speed. Based on his family members — one brother, Arthur Jones is a Baltimore Ravens defensive tackle, and the other, Jon Jones, is a UFC champion — it's easy to guess that Jones will test out extremely well.
Jones flashed dominance at times in 2011, most notably against Pittsburgh earlier this month. In that game, he finished with 4 tackles, 2 tackles for loss an interception and a forced fumble. But he was routinely the first player off the line of scrimmage and getting into the backfield.
Tony Pauline of SI.com/NFL Draft Insider noted earlier today that Jones received a third-round grade from the NFL Draft advisory board. Based on how many defensive ends get drafted, Jones could work his way into the end of the second round with good workouts. Judging by how he plays, Jones could test out like Jason Pierre-Paul did in 2010 and skyrocket up draft boards.

i dont know about that
Pierre-Paul still had the stats to go along with the measurables. Plus he showed up big in the big games. He flat out destroyed both of FSU’s highly rated tackles(Andrew Datko, Zebrie Sanders) when USF beat FSU.
Chandler Jones just doesnt have that kind of tape
I probably know Judo! How many of you can make the same boast?
not many people did
if anyone is like JPP it isn’t Chandler Jones
I like Chandler Jones a lot as a prospect, but he is not even close to JPP level when he as coming out of South Florida

Is he...
more of a 3-4 end or outside linebacker, or a 4-3 end?

I think he could play the five tech as a 3-4 DE
idk about him as a rush 34 OLB, I dont think he has that type of skills

Awfully light for a 5-tech
I know very little about him, but he’d need to add about 30 lbs. to be a good fit there.

He's also brothers with Arthur Jones
who was excellent at Cuse and probably would’ve been a 1st or 2nd rounder if he didn’t get hurt and now B-More has a steal.

I wonder if he does any MMA training with his brother? Seems like it would be great cross training for a DE.
I agree, Larsen shouldn’t get any bigger. I am getting tired of his bone crushing hits knocking the pixels off my TV, once they fall to the floor they are very hard to find.

I was way off on JPP
so I’m not really sure how to grade out these freak-athlete types… though I’m willing to be the majority of them never develop into anything more than exciting role players or backups
People are gonna throw JPP's name around with all these athletic freak DEs now
the truth is no one really knew JPP would be the way he is. Also 99% of what makes JPP as good as he is has nothing to do with how much of a freak athlete he is. Its his mindset and mentality.
I’ve seen Chandler Jones play and I agree he did remind me of a JPP type dude, at least in college. There’s just gonna have to be something that clicks when he makes the jump to the pros to make him comparable tho.
