2011 NFL Mock Draft: 2nd Round
This is an area I typically stay away from because predicting the 2nd round of the NFL Draft is impossible. However, part of the fun of covering the NFL Draft is going out on a limb and making predictions. Please make sure to check out my 1st round Mock Draft which will help explain a lot of these 2nd round selections. As usual, I am hoping for some good comments and feedback!
33. New England (from Car.)- Mikel Leshoure- RB- Illinois
- Woodhead and Green- Ellis are nice backs but Leshoure could be great!
34. Buffalo- Nate Solder- OT- Colorado
- If the draft falls this way the Bills brass will be doing cartwheels all over the war-room. Biggest need for the Bills might be at tackle and they get a guy with great potential in Solder.
35. Cincinnati- Mike Pouncey- G/C- Florida
- The interior of the Bengals offensive line is aging and it is important to rebuild your offense line through the draft. Teams such as the Bears are an example of someone that waited to long to address their aging offensive line.
36. Denver- Drake Nevis- DT- LSU
- A defensive line that features Dumervil, Bowers, and Nevis could be game changing.
37. Cleveland- Leonard Hankerson- WR- Miami
- I wanted to avoid selecting Hankerson with this pick but the fact remains the Browns need help at wide receiver. My issue with this pick is that Cleveland has two 2nd round picks invested in Brian Robiskie and Mohamed Massaquoi.
38. Arizona- Ben Ijalana- OT- Villanova
- The Cardinals offensive line has seen better days. Ijalana is a bit of a project but he has a lot up potential.
39. Tennessee- Martez Wilson- LB- Illinios
- The Titans defense was decent last season with a lot of vets. The linebacking corps could use an infusion of young talent and Wilson has a ton of athletic ability.
40. Dallas- Danny Watkins- G- Baylor
- Dallas struggled to get consistent play from its offensive line. While the major issue is at tackle the interior wasn't very good either.
41. Washington- JJ Watt- DE- Wisconsin
- Vonnie Holiday is 35 years old and Watt would present great value at this position. I have to admit this might be a little far for Watt to fall.
42. Houston- Jalil Brown- CB- Colorado
- Do I really need to give much explanation for this pick? The secondary is terrible and needs talent, period.
43. Minnesota- Christian Ponder- QB- Florida State
- Joe Webb showed some promise but I am not among those that feel he has upside at the quarterback position. Ponder has good poise and the ability to contribute early in his career.
44. Detroit- Kendric Burney- CB- UNC
- Detroit did a good job last season adding some nice pieces to the secondary but overall they still need some players. Burney earned himself some money at the Senior Bowl showing he has a nose for the ball.
45. San Francisco- Torrey Smith- WR- Maryland
- San Francisco will likely be breaking in a new quarterback so why not give him the max amount of weapons. Smith is a guy with terrific speed and playmaking ability.
46. Denver (from Mia)- Quinton Carter- S- Oklahoma
- Brian Dawkins is at the end of his career which makes the addition of Carter a smart pick. The biggest weakness of this Broncos team was the defense and they have added Bowers, Nevis, and now Carter.
47. St. Louis- Kyle Rudolph- TE- Notre Dame
- Sam Bradford loves using his tight ends and the best of the bunch is Rudolph. The Rams need to continue to surround their young quarterback with weapons.
48. Oakland- Colin Kaepernick- QB- Nevada
- It's said every year that Al Davis loves athletic ability and speed, so why should this year be any different? Kaepernick is a project player but will have the opportunity to learn under new head coach Hue Jackson.
49. Jacksonville- Mason Foster- LB- Washington
- Ex- NFL linebacker Jack Del Rio would love to add someone like Foster to his roster, yes I meant for that to rhyme.
50. San Diego- Muhammad Wilkerson- DE/DT- Temple
- This is a bit low for Wilkerson but the Chargers will be happy with this pick. Wilkerson will step in and start at the 5 technique from day one.
51. Tampa Bay- Sam Acho- DE- Texas
- Tampa needs to focus on upgrading their pass rush which is an area where Acho excels.
52. New York Giants- Nate Irving- LB- NC State
- The Giants are still looking for an answer at the middle linebacker position.
53. Indianapolis- Stephen Paea- DT- Oregon State
- Paea is likely to drop a little because of his knee injury. He fills a big need for the Colts by bringing his run stuffing ability to Indy.
54. Philadelphia- Rodney Hudson- C/G- Florida State
- Jamal Jackson has struggled to overcome injuries so adding someone like Hudson would be a smart decision.
55. Kansas City- DeMarcus Love- G/T- Arkansas
- Love has good value here at #55. He has the ability to play either tackle or guard.
56. New Orleans- Ryan Williams- RB- Virginia Tech
- The Saints missed the powerful running style of Mike Bell and power running is Williams specialty.
57. Seattle- Allen Bailey- DT/DE- Miami
- Not sure what type of NFL player Bailey will be but his athletic ability is undeniable. He could play the unique 5 technique position in Pete Carroll's defense.
58. Baltimore- Titus Young- WR- Boise State
- Young's playmaking ability will appeal to the Ravens. He is a player they could stick in the slot to create mismatches.
59. Atlanta- Luke Stocker- TE- Tennessee
- Atlanta needs to bring someone in to be mentored by Tony Gonzalez before its too late.
60. New England- Rashard Carmichael- CB- Virginia Tech
- New England should think about packaging this pick to move up in the draft somewhere or maybe they will trade this for a 1st round pick next season. Either way its a good place to get some secondary depth.
61. San Diego (from NYJ)- Jon Baldwin- WR- Pitt
- Be sure to check out our interview with Baldwin HERE! Baldwin perfectly fits the mold of a Charger receiver who might be dealing with the loss of Vincent Jackson and Malcolm Floyd.
62. Chicago- Stefen Wisniewski- C/G- Penn State
- Olin Kruetz's play has begun to decline and there is little to no depth behind him.
63. Pittsburgh- Kendric Ellis- DT/NT- Hampton
- Casey Hampton is in the same position as Kruetz and you can never have enough depth on the defensive line.
64. Green Bay- Kelvin Sheppard- LB- LSU
- Green Bay learned this season that depth at all positions is very important.

I don't think Rams will draft a TE after drafting two last year.

I have to agree
But I’ve been wrong. We simply have too many other positions to address. Still a great mock though. Lots of work, I can see. I wish I had the body of film study it takes to do one of these intelligently. I applaud all those who do it.
Wolf. Wolfgang Wolf
We do need a TE though.
1 is a project, the other hasn’t been healthy in college and so far in the pros also

I like it
The niners get a WR that has decent hands and decent speed.
Kellen Moore is awesome
Katie Mcgrath is our savior
my dog <3
Newton in the 1st & Watt in the 2nd would be an excellent draft for the Redskins
I would disagree with some other teams tho, can’t see Philadelphia going with a sub 300 lb. offensive lineman & I think after the SB that Pittsburgh will get a CB somewhere in the 1st two rd.s. Love in the 2nd after the Senior Bowl is a stretch. Overall good job tho IMHO
Irving seems like a major reach in the 2nd
and not all that much better than Jon Goff, if at all.

If Wisnieski is still there for the Chiefs picking at 55, I don't see any way we pass on him
He’s projected as the best ZB center prospect, and our O-line interior was the weakest part of our offense. With Wiegmann and Nieswanger uncertain to resign with the team, a day 1 starting center is a must, IMO, way above a OT or guard at this point.
It's one thing to see something wrong and have good ideas how to fix it, it's another to complain about everything because nothing is ever good enough. Look in the mirror, which one are you?
Agreed
Pioli drafts BPA but the need out plays the WR bit or LB bit hands down…
We need BEEF; This is my mock prediction 2011
1. Houston LB - Georgia
2. Moffit G - Wisconsin
3. Powe NT - Ol' Miss
4. O'Dowd C - USC
5. Carter S - Oklahoma
6. V. Brown WR - San Diego State
7. Taua RB - Nevada

Kaepernick is overrated
Not a 2nd-round prospect in any way. More like 4th round.
Rick Ross is an intriguing NFL prospect because of his combination of speed and size. He projects as a Nose Tackle in the 3-4. His upside is the reason the Panthers will select Ross #1 overall in the 2011 NFL Draft.
-Todd McShay
Sticking us with A.J. Green under the tagline "It'll keep Palmer happy" ain't too well with me.
But that’s the first round
I like this pick though you’d be fine if you went strong safety there too.
Would you rather sacrifice a live Bengal to appease him?

If Pouncey fell to us in the second
I think he’d be a great pick… not sure he gets past the Steelers though… damn Steelers
With Pick 55 for the Chiefs....
I just don’t see the fit. Senior Bowl he constantly was beat moved over to guard on one occasion and was just ran over. The commentator’s even made some comments about it. Off day perhaps? Maybe. I feel that the Chiefs are set at the Guard position for now. On Arrowhead Pride a nice reminder was brought up that we do still have Harris in the works. 2nd round guard I just don’t feel is a priority for us.
Do u think the C mentioned above would be the way to go?

If he is there.....
at pick 55 I say ya pick him up. He not only provides great value with BPA it is also a position we need. I think he would be a nice pick up with the 55th pick. I just don’t think he is there at 55.
That being said....
Well done. Nice research. Rec’d for the time and effort you put into this.
We have 4 ILB that could start for us.
If one of them is released/traded I can see a guy being drafted later, but not in the 2nd.
Go Suns, Packers, Jays, and Huskers!
Green Bay Packers: Super Bowl XLV Champions!!!!
I like Pouncey in the second for the Bengals.
I’d be pretty happy if we got him.
"I bet that sex Bengals fan is really pissed now." -DT3428
I <3 Mason Foster
to Jags, but Cam. Jordan should of been the pick at #16, but fine Kerrigan to spell AK, and Foster to replace Durant, but besides Durant being injury prone, he’s actually good, so…but his contract is exipring, so he’ll probably be replaced.
not to mention
the jags GM basically said he was taking a QB in the first two rounds and their biggest need is secondary so hopefully secondary is coming up for the jags in the 3rd round.
uhh...yea.
only thing that could make a player with that size and athleticism fall is his character, but I don’t think he’s anywhere close to that.

I would have thought the Browns
would take Baldwin over Hankerson any day.

Definitely...
I think he’s got 1st round talent, and I’d be surprised if he isn’t off the board by early in the 2nd.
I think Peyton Manning could win both the Super Bowl and Presidential election in 2012.

From a Patriot fan's perspective,
I woudn’t be happy if we passed on Stefen Wiesniewski in the 2nd Round. We desperately need someone to replace Koppen after the 2011 season and that person sure as heck isn’t on the roster.
Lakers,LeBron,Yankees,Colts,Giants,Dolphins,Steelers, & Jets: These are a few of my least favorite things.
I'm not sure how you can have both
Rahim Moore- first round is way over his head, and Quinton Carter going ahead of DeAndre McDaniel. McDaniel is IMO the best safety in the draft unless Patrick Peterson decided he would make the switch from CB. Then again, if that leaves the Bengals an opportunity to pick him up in the third, I really shouldn’t complain. Like Pouncey. Like Cannon or Hudson or Watkins better.
by IgnatiusJReilly on Feb 12, 2011 4:44 PM EST reply actions
I'd fine with any of those guys.
I love Cannon’s size. That can only be an asset in the AFC North, especially with the power run game that Gruden wants to implement.

I like the Titus Young pick
But I don’t think he will that far, and Hankerson is a first round pick.
Editor at Baltimore Beatdown - SB Nation Baltimore Ravens Blog
I heart Leonard Hankerson
not liking the Steelers draft at all
we don’t need an OT because Colon and Starks will be back. If we draft an OT we will have Scott, Adams, Colon, Starks, Essex, and Rookie at tackle. WE only keep 8 linemen active each week so that would not work. Ellis is a 4th to 5th round prospect so he won’t be our 2nd round pick.

Absolutely No way
do the Raiders pass on Stefen Wisniewski G/C out of Penn St for Nevada’s Kaepernick.
The anti AL davis Bill Board would be propped up again, the city of oakland would probably force Al to move back to Los Angeles, the Raider great, and their new asst O-Line coach would beat up every male in the Raiders front office.
Not really a fan of Jalil Brown at 42
The last thing the Texans need is to get younger in the defensive backfield. I really can’t see them using a #2 pick on Colorado’s 2nd best CB. I would rather see them get Paea there
