Miami may be off the board for a first-round QB
The Miami Dolphins have a quarterback situation in flux.
In 2009, Chad Henne looked like a future star. He showed in 2010 that may not be the case. For the second year in a row, Henne threw more interceptions than touchdowns as Miami lost four of the last five games he played in. The game the Dolphins won, against the Jets, Henne completed 27.8 percent of his passes.
So Henne basically himself out of being the quarterback of the future for Miami. As The Phinsider notes today, though, that Henne should be given a season under new offensive coordinator Brian Daboll.
Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland may tend to agree. On 790-AM in Miami today, Ireland said Henne is "on pace with some of the slower-developing QBs in the NFL."
The Dolphins also have Chad Pennington, Tyler Thigpen and Tom Brandstater on the roster. None seem like the kind of players who can lead a franchise.
To do that, it may be time for the Dolphins to use a first-round pick on a quarterback. Miami hasn't done that since drafting Dan Marino 27th overall in 1983.
However, the Dolphins currently hold the 15th overall pick in the first round. If they stay in that spot, both Blaine Gabbert and Cam Newton may be gone. After that, they'd be looking at Jake Locker and Ryan Mallett, quarterbacks who may be riskier than the highly polarizing Newton.
So maybe it will be another year for Henne in Miami and the Phins will look quarterback early in 2012.

Now that's a vote of confidence!
Ireland said Henne is “on pace with some of the slower-developing QBs in the NFL.”
OUCH! I liked Henne coming out of Michigan. I thought he was going to be a solid starter in the NFL. But then, I am a Michigan and Lions fan……………[insert joke here] .
I was never sold on Henne
he regressed every year while at Michigan. Maybe he gets complacent

He was really banged up his last year here.
I never thought he was a franchise type QB, but was good value in the second round. I always thought of Jim Plunkett when I tried to think of QBs to compare to Henne. Good arm, but inconsistent, and unpredictable. Could be great at times, then horrible.
Plunkett was a more down the field kind of thrower. Nowadays, all the QBs seem to be dinkers and dunkers.
QB in the first round is out of the question, since they are drafting Mark Ingram in the first
I liked Henne coming out, but as a “game manager” type of QB that needs a great running game, and D
he already has a great LT in Jake Long, and a true mismatch WR in Brandon Marshall….
they really need Ingram to allow Miami to be a “ball control” type of team
As a Miami fan...
get rid of Henne

Miami would be STUPID to draft Ingram
Sure, he’s a solid back. Really solid. But he isnt the player that fits the TEAM SPEED that Ireland talked about. I for one dont really want another average speed RB. sure, he is a stud in his powering way, and he does possess speed, but i also think we can find a quality back in the later rounds, ie. 3-4th. We ought to drop back into the later first round, collect a second, and take a QB late first (best available- the more i see of Ponder, the more i like), WR such as Young or Hankerson in the second, and RB in the third. This is assuming that a CBA is reached and we can get our OL troubles filled via Free Agency. I guess ill be happy with however Miami slices it, but we NEED to address QB and i think a RB can wait.

Henne
Holds the ball too long and gets confused when you throw different protection/blitzing schemes at him. I sure as hell wouldn’t want him as my starting QB, but he’s certainly got more talent than 90% of the backups out there.
I think Chad would be much more effective with a legit running game as the core of that offense. That gimmicky running attack where Chad splits out wide or is off the field entirely isn’t going to take any pressure off him as a passer. In a way I think Miami is partially to blame for stunting his growth.
Henne
When we got Henne in the draft Henne, had numbers that made Marino’s college stats pale in comparison.
Marino was allowed to play “his game” and Henne wasn’t. How did that turn out?
We could land Luck in next years draft and this organization and coaching staff would find a way to F it up. You can have any QB you want being coached by inept staff and still get the same result. Our O-line regressed as well and THAT was Sparano’s strength for God’s sake…!
You anti-Henne people can keep singing the same song all you want, but sooner or later you will come to the realization that it’s not the player… it’s the organization and staff.
Yeah, I feel so much more comfortable and positive this year going with an OC who comes from a team that did worse than us… AND the hiring of Tony’s son with absolutely no experience. NOT..!!!!!
You call yourself fans, so get a clue people….
I think bad coaching screwed him up as well
