MtD Community "LIVE" Mock Draft - Detroit Lions on the Clock!

MtD

Since our last live mock draft had to be postponed, I say we start it up again. But let's do it a little differently. Let's have the ENTIRE community vote on each pick. I'll have a poll up for each pick, and try to get through 2 picks a day and will try my best to get through 2 rounds. I'll try and update as regularly as possible, but no guarantees.

If you would like to put in an explanation for your particular pick (or to convince other voters), do so in the comments section, and if your vote is the actual pick and the explanation is sound, I'll throw it in with the pick, and we'll have a nice looking mock draft by the end.

If you're down, rec it to keep it on top. Let's do this!

Star-divide

Round 1

  1. Carolina (2-14) Blaine Gabbert, QB. Best QB + Huge Need + 1st overall = Blaine Gabbert. He’s safer, and Newton’s character concerns won’t fly well with Richardson.
  2. Denver (4-12) Marcel Dareus, DT. BPA and they need to rebuild their D.
  3. Buffalo (4-12) Patrick Peterson, CB.
  4. Cincinnati (4-12) A.J. Green, WR. BPA + Overly ballhog recievers in Cincy + Carson Palmer + Need.
  5. Arizona (5-11) Von Miller, OLB. Arizona's LB corps was "...so bad that Moms tell their children that if they don’t behave that they will have to watch them play."
  6. Cleveland (5-11) Da'Quan Bowers, DE.
  7. San Francisco (6-10) Prince Amukamara, CB.
  8. Tennessee (6-10)  Nick Fairley, DT. The next Albert Haynesworth without the FA bust.
  9. Dallas (6-10) Tyron Smith, OT.
  10. Washington (6-10) Cam Newton, QB. Does anyone feel compelled to defend Rex Grossman or Donovan Mcnabb? Maybe if they’re both on the field at the same time. Would make for some entertaining T.V.
  11. Houston (6-10) Robert Quinn, OLB
  12. Minnesota (6-10) Julio Jones, WR
  13. Detroit (6-10)
  14. St. Louis (7-9)

    AJ Green

I think there is a surprising trend that new coaches that were DCs go with offense with their first pick since they know they can handle the defensive side of the ball

AJ Green has somewhat been forgotten but I think it’d be fair to give Clausen another real shot and train for the future at WR… there are better DT free agents than WRs and if Clausen fails, then go Luck next year with a better AJ Green – better to suffer for one year and have a great place to start next year than to put ourselves in a dilemma with 2 QBs again who probably won’t do well to start

    Ah yes

forgot about Green as a possibilty. If more people pick the “other” option, and ask for Green, he’ll be the pick.

    It would be "fair"

But Clausen has no hope to ever be our starting QB.
New Coach pretty much always = New QB
Add the reports Clausen wasn’t listening to the coaches……
    He’s done for.

If the CBA was in place we could trade for Kolb or sign a FA but it won’t be happening pre-draft with this owners/players pissing match.

the reports about Clausen not listening to coaches would make me switch sides

and make getting a QB understandable, but obviously we can’t know that for sure and they do

otherwise, I’d like to still go with what we have and get Green

The reports where from Michael Lombardi

    A very reputable source IMO.

    Who cares???!!

I would rather him not listen to Scherer anyway. That guy is a idiot. Same goes for Davidson. All scherer does is screw up QB’s. Yeah Anderson went to the Pro-Bowl with Scherer coaching him, but Scherer also coached him the next year, and he did terrible.

So you have a lame duck, idiotic coaching staff telling you what to do… What would you suggest that he do? If I were him, I would have told them all to………. use your imagination.

When do you think he stopped listening to them? Around the time he quit throwing passes to the OL? Maybe?

Hard to vote against the QB

I said Blaine because he’s safer, and Newton’s character concerns won’t fly well with Richardson, IMO.

That and the fact I want Denver to get Dareus

If you reply to a comment/post/fanshot of mine, I will more likely then not respond to it, unless you come off like a d-bag.

    PP7 FTW

PP7, Gamble, Munnerlyn, Martin, and Godfrey…. Nasty!!!

We are going to be blitzing A LOT under Rivera/McDermott. We need ballhawks that can stay with their man, and make the QB pay for poorly thrown balls under pressure.

PP7 can take away half of the field. In our division, this is huge. Brees, Ryan, and Freeman are franchise QB’s. We need a Franchise QB to compete with them, but since there are none in this draft, you take the guy that can make life difficult for them.

Pick up a Vet QB in FA, draft a DT in the 3rd, pick up another DT in FA and we are good. If Clausen chokes next year, take Luck in 2012.

A power player that can play in 30 or 40 front and be effective as a rookie. Could be the defensive corner stone in Carolina. Ron Rivera is defesive minded coach. He builds around Dareus.

Big Ben: 2 super bowl victories
Joe Flacco: 0 super bowl appearances
Mark Sanchez: 0 super bowl appearances

So for those of you who say Flacco and Sanchez are better postseason QB's than Big Ben because they have more road wins, go home and think about how dumb that reasoning is.

    AJ Green

Arguably the best prospect in the draft, and would make Clausen look like Montana(not really but still)….A great WR is a QB’s second best friend(other than a great O-Line)

"And one should bear in mind that there is nothing more difficult to execute, nor more dubious of success, nor more dangerous to administer than to introduce a new order to things; for he who introduces it has all those who profit from the old order as his enemies; and he has only lukewarm allies in all those who might profit from the new. This lukewarmness partly stems from fear of their adversaries, who have the law on their side, and partly from the skepticism of men, who do not truly believe in new things unless they have personal experience in them."

    Trade down

Switch with Ari, plus a pick, so they can skip Cinn to get Cam. Then Bills get Nick or Miller. I would rather skip these questionable QBs and shoot for next draft with the deep QBs pool.

    Bills Have To Many Problems

The Bills should call New England and trade away the 3rd pick for their two number ones and a two.
The team is not going to get a star player at three to turn the team around.
    Why?
Because the team needs to fill to many holes based on ten years of bad drafts.
Getting three picks from New England long with our second round pick and our third round pick and two fourth round picks.
The team is poised to get a total of seven players whom could start along with having NFL talent.
Draft based on the New England trade:
    #1/JJ.Watt…#1/G.Carimi…#2/M.Wilson…#2/M.Austin
    #3/T.Sash…#4/J.Moffitt…#4/O.Marecic…#5/A.Wujciak
With this draft we now get starting talent at DE/ROT/ILB/SS/ROG/FB

M.Austin/A.Wujciak/ become soid rotation players as backups while the other become talented starters.

Buffalo wake up and start making deals to position yourself to get these picks and even more picks with going after a new QB next year.
The team had three star running backs in the beginning of the season.
    LYNCH/SPILLER/JACKSON.
None of them could get a 1,000 yards rushing. What a shame.
Now by having A.Levitre/LOG E.Wood/OC J.Moffitt/ROG G.Carimi/ROT you have four out five offensive linemen to run the ball with success. LOT by committee for one more year.

Drafting JJ.Watt and getting M.Austin would give us a starting DE/JJ.Watt NT/K.Williams DE/D.Edwards…Having M.Austin and T.Troupe rotating in the line as needed.

Drafting M.Wilson we can then sign P.Posluszny have this as our tandem inside starting and have A.Wujciak as a solid backup.

T.Sash can start right next to J.Byrd and be the QB of the defense.

Having stiff TE’s playing in replace of a FB is awaist of time.
Getting O.Marecic to start at FB will be the answer to blocking for Jackson/Spiller along with for our QB.
Wake up Buffalo and stop looking and thinking small.
You made many bad mistakes with talent for the past ten drafts and this is a chance to make up some ground by getting this trade done.

    Texans= Julio Jones

The Texans don’t have anyone to go across from Andre Johnson. Kevin Walter can run some deep routes but isn’t a consistent receiver. They need help on D, but they can use their next 3 or 4 selections on defense if they get Jones to help the offfense.
