2011 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft: Round 2, Pick 36

Our annual 2011 NFL Mock Draft, with picks made by each of SB Nation's NFL team bloggers, is in full swing. The latest pick in to the podium: the Denver Broncos, at No. 36 overall.

With the 36th overall pick in the 2011 SB Nation NFL Writers Mock Draft, the Denver Broncos select Marvin Austin, defensive tackle, North Carolina.

John Bena of MileHighReport.com explains the choice, and our own Dan Kadar reacts to it, after the jump. Make sure you're grading this pick for the Broncos, and checking out Mile High Report for all of your Broncos needs.

Star-divide

John Bena explains: This writer did not submit an explanation.

Dan Kadar reacts: With the second pick in this mock, Denver took Texas A&M pass rusher Von Miller. Although that is probably unlikely, they would desperately need to get one of the better defensive tackles in the second round. That's exactly what Austin represents.

Going into the 2010 season, Austin was considered by many as a first-round player. But after sitting out the whole season due to suspension, Austin had to show in the East-West Shrine Game and in workouts that he's still that player. He is, for the most part. Austin can move around as well as any interior lineman in this year's class, and is quick for his size. The issue he still faces is about his work ethic. Working out is easy. Translating it consistently to game day is another story. At North Carolina, Austin too frequently took plays off or seemed to go half speed. Is that a good fit for Denver's rebuilding defense?

It's a great positional fit. Whether he becomes the player many expect is up to Austin himself. [Marvin Austin Scouting Report]

With that, the Cleveland Browns - and our friends at Dawgs By Nature - are now on the clock.

Great pick John

great value here, if we get the top 10 player he can be this will be the steal of the draft. I like too how we got the 3 tech. Although Big Vick is not the long term solution at the 1 tech, I think we could get by a year or 2 with him. There is a huge void at the 3 tech though, and I think Austin is a great fit for it.

If you reply to a comment/post/fanshot of mine, I will more likely then not respond to it, unless you come off like a d-bag.

Would jump up and down with this pick

Taking Von miller first and still getting a talented DT like Austin would be a great start. Broncos still have another 2nd rd pick at 46 overall, and the 3rd round 67 overall. That’s 4 quality defensive players we should get out of top 67 players. This needs to be the foundation of our defense for years to come.

I see the need for a DT, but I just don't like the player.

Gave you a C. Yeah, he does have talent which will make it all the more frustrating to see him fail to realize his potential.

Good fit in Denver

Right scheme too under John Fox. If Marvin Austin wants it——he can be as good as any 3-technique player in this draft. A boom or bust type.

No explanation needed I guess...great pick

Austin wants to be a broadcaster and knows his off-field activity must stay clean. He’s a talent and I see him as a beast
