Greg Jones NFL Draft scouting report

Photo

Greg Jones
6'0, 242 pounds | Middle linebacker | Michigan State

Strengths:
Is an efficient and technically sound linebacker, but lacks some strength. Can really drive through the ball carrier when he squares up his shoulders and fires ahead. Uses his experience as a pass rusher. Knows how to read a play and determinee where a gap to shoot is going to develop. Even though Michigan State often used him moving forward, Jones is adept at dropping back in zone coverage. he can move around well enough to stay on running backs in the open field. Plays with a ton of heart and hustle. Extremely durable. Team leader.

Star-divide

Weaknesses: Because of his size, Jones has to always be conscious of getting low to gain leverage on ball carriers. He too often gets high in his stance and can be overmatched. Doesn't have the strength or natural leverage to consistently beat quick blockers. Has trouble shedding once blockers are engaged. Doesn't have top athleticism which may prohibit him from being a superstar at linebacker.

Final word: Jones is the opposite of flashy. He's not big or overly athletic. In fact, his size will probably scare some teams off completely. What he is, though, is the kind of player a team should be able to plug in and rely on for years. He's technically sounds in all aspects of the game and plays with a high motor. No one will be excited by Jones, but his dependability is immense.

I've noticed you havent projected where a player could be picked in a while

I’m thinking he goes mid 3rd, you?

If you reply to a comment/post/fanshot of mine, I will more likely then not respond to it, unless you come off like a d-bag.

Definitely wouldn't mind him heading the Giants' Tampa-2.

He’d be a good fit at MLB

he's gonna be a tackling machine

but as a 4-3 weakside linebacker

This guy is Legit

I think the description is perfect. Sound in all areas, flashy in none. This guy is no special teamer. He’s gonna be a tackling machine in the London Fletcher-Sam Mills mold for quite some time. short and stout but always around the ball.

I would love him

in the 3rd. A Greg Jones on the offensive and defensive side of the ball for the Jaguars would be nice.
