7 round mock draft - the final edition

This will be my final installment of the 2011 NFL mock draft. It took a little over a month to complete because of the HTML formatting. Enjoy and feel free to critisize it. I won't be offended. Compensatory picks are indicated in pink.

Star-divide

Pick # Team Team Needs Pick Explanation
1 Carolina Panthers QB, 2DT, WR1, RG, RDE, TE, CB Blaine Gabbert, QB, Missouri Gabbert is not the best QB prospect we have seen in a draft but he is definitely a safer pick than Newton. Rumors are the Panthers won't take a defensive player with this pick which leaves us with Green, Newton, and Gabbert. If surrounded with proper talent, Gabbert can become a stud
2 Denver Broncos 2DT, LB, TE, DE, S, RB2, LT, RT, CB3 Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama This pick is going to come down to whoever the Broncos rate as the best DT. I have Dareus as the #1 DT in this draft so I mocked him here. Dareus presents an elite skill set and should have an Ndamakong Suh type impact in year 1
3 Buffalo Bills QB, LT, DE, Rush LB, RT, WR, TE, ILB, CB3 Cam Newton, QB, Auburn Newton is a huge risk but I think he is worth it here. He has the physical tools to become a superstar and fits perfectly in Chan Gailey's system.
4 Cincinnati Bengals DE, RB, WR, ILB, QB, LG, SS, K, KR A.J. Green, WR, Georgia I think Bowers could be the pick but his pro day was not that good. Green is the best WR in this draft and will help lessen the burden of the TOCHO show possibly leaving. Maybe he can convince Palmer to stay as well
5 Arizona Cardinals QB, LT, 2Rush LB, LG, RT, CB, FS Von Miller, OLB, Texas A&M Miller is an elite OLB for a 3-4 defense and could be the next Demarcus Ware. He is a sack machine and an athletic freak. He will help fill a major void at OLB. If one of the 2 QB's are available, they could be the pick as well.
6 Cleveland Browns WR, RT, DE, DT, Weak LB, CB, RG, SS, K Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn The Browns have to rebuild their entire front 7 as they switch to a 4-3. Fairley is a great pass rusher at the DT spot and has good size. He needs to get a little better in run support but that can be taught.
7 San Francisco 49ers QB, DE, Rush LB, CB, FS, WR, OT Patrick Peterson, CB, Nebraska Peterson is by far the BPA here and fills a relatively large need. He will be an instant starter and an eventual pro bowler.
8 Tennessee Titans QB, LG, ILB, C, DE, Weak LB, SS, DT Da'Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson Bowers is the BPA and fills a need at DE. He is a great pass rusher and will fit in Tennessee's 4-3 Defense. He needs to prove that he is not a one year wonder which is why he is available here.
9 Dallas Cowboys CB, RT, FS, RE, LG, SS, DL, WR Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska This pick could go a bunch of ways. The Cowboys could take Tyron Smith but I think Amukamara presents a better player and better value.
10 Washington Redskins QB, WR, RT, Rush LB, ILB, NT, CB, RE, FS, RG, C, FB, K, P Tyron Smith, OT, USC Smith is a great tackle prospect that is used to playing RT. He fills a huge need at RT. The Redskins could go with Julio Jones but I think good WR's will be available in the mid rounds
11 Houston Texans NT, 2Rush LB, FS, SS, CB, WR, P, DL Robert Quinn, OLB, UNC Quinn, had he played this year, would likely be a top 3 pick. At this point, he presents great value for the Texans, who are switching to a 3-4 defense. Quinn will give them an elite 3-4 OLB that can help the rebuilding process for the Texans D.
12 Minnesota Vikings QB, 2OLB, RT, 2S, TE, CB, RG, WR, LE, K, C, DT Gabe Carimi, OT, Wisconsin Carimi is the best player available and his positional versatility makes it better. He can fill the void at RT for the Vikings right away and eventually transition to LT.
13 Detroit Lions 2 OLB, CB, LT, C, SS, RB Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA Ayers is the only player available that makes sense. Solder is a huge reach. Jimmy Smith is a reach. While Ayers is a slight reach, he fills a major need.
14 St. Louis Rams WR, RG, DT, Weak LB, SS, TE, RB, CB, DE Julio Jones, WR, Alabama Jones being available would be an absolute dream for the Rams. He fills their biggest need and gives them an elite WR for Sam Bradford.
15 Miami Dolphins QB, RB, FS, TE, LG, WR, CB3, Rush LB, OL Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama With Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams probably leaving, RB is a huge need. Ingram is not the BPA but he fills a huge need.
16 Jacksonville Jaguars DE, FS, CB, WR, Weak LB, QB, OL Cameron Jordan, DE, California The Jaguars always take the BPA and I think Jordan fills that role. Jordan is an absolute beast and can make a huge impact rushing the passer for the Jaguars.
17 New England Patriots G, OT, Rush LB, DE, WR, RB Aldon Smith, OLB, Missouri Smith presents incredible value at a big need. He would give the Patriots a great pass rusher off the edge and add versatility to their young defense.
18 San Diego Chargers Rush LB, DE, RT, ILB, WR, FS, CB3, ST J.J. Watt, DE, Wisconsin Watt is a player with no real weaknesses. He has good athleticism, is very strong, and is good at defending the run and rushing the passer.
19 New York Giants OLB, C, OT, RB, CB, TE, FS, DT Nate Solder, OT, Colorado Solder is a physical specimen but is very raw. He needs to develop his footwork to become a better pass blocker. However, he already excels in run blocking and could be a great player down the line.
20 Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2DE, ILB, RT, LG, Strong LB, RB, C, CB Adrian Clayborn, DE, Iowa Clayborn fills the Bucs greatest need. He will give them a versatile DE that can rush the passer and is very good against the run.
21 Kansas City Chiefs Rush LB, WR, NT, QB, LT, RT, C, RB, ILB Ryan Kerrigan, OLB, Purdue The common pick is Phil Taylor but I think Kerrigan is a better overall prospect and fills a bigger need. He will give the Chiefs a fearsome pass rusher off the edge and as he develops he will become a star.
22 Indianapolis Colts LT, RT, DT, RG, WR, SS, RB, QB Anthony Costanzo, OT, Boston College Costanzo is a perfect fit for the Colts blocking scheme. He is a great pass blocker and an adequate run blocker.
23 Philadelphia Eagles RT, RG, 2CB, 2OLB, SS, DE Mike Pouncey, OG, Florida Mike is not as good of prospect as Maurkice was but he is still a great guard prospect that will shore up the Eagles right guard spot.
24 New Orleans Saints DT, OLB, DE, RT, RB, Strong LB, SS Corey Liuget, DT, Illinois Liuget is terrific value here and fills the Saints biggest need. He will get a year to learn behind Shaun Rogers and then replace him.
25 Seattle Seahawks CB, SS, RT, LE, WR1, RG, QB, K Jimmy Smith, CB, Colorado Smith is a top 15 talent but character concerns make him available here. However, he is just too talented to fall any further.
26 Baltimore Ravens WR, DE, CB, ILB, RT, RG Cameron Heyward, DE, Ohio State The Ravens options here are endless. They could go one of many ways but I think all their other needs could be addressed later in the draft much better than a 3-4 DE could be. If they didn't take Heyward they would have to hope Christian Ballard fell to them in round 2.
27 Atlanta Falcons 2WR, LT, 2G, SS, Strong LB, CB3, TE, DE Jonathan Baldwin, WR, Pittsburgh Baldwin is an elite talent that has freakish athleticism and will give Matt Ryan a great weapon across from Roddy White.
28 New England Patriots G, OT, DE, WR, RB Muhammed Wilerson, DE, Temple Wilkerson is a great DE prospect that is kind of under the radar. He has great size and strength and will have no trouble playing in a 3-4 system.
29 Chicago Bears LT, LG, DT, C, WR1, Strong LB, RB, DE, P Derek Sherrod, OT, Mississippi State Sherrod is a very good tackle who has no major flaws. He will likely start right away on the Bears terrible OL
30 New York Jets Rush LB, DE, CB, ILB, WR, K Justin Houston, OLB, Georgia Houston has the build of Lamaar Woodely and could become that good. He is a great pass rusher but will need to transition from DE to OLB.
31 Pittsburgh Steelers RG, CB, OT, NT, DE, FS, P Phil Taylor, NT, Baylor Taylor is the only prospect available that really makes sense. He will sit and learn behind Casey Hampton and Chris Hoke for two years but then be ready to replace Hampton and the Steelers D won't miss a beat. Many people think it is silly to have a 1st round draft pick sit for 2 years but Colbert has already done it once with Ziggy Hood.
32 Green Bay Packers Rush LB, LG, DE, RB, OT, WR, K Martez Wilson, OLB, Illinois Wilson has the size and speed to be a great 3-4 OLB. He will have to transition from ILB to OLB but with proper coaching he can become a stud.
33 New England Patriots G, OT, WR, RB Leonard Hankerson, WR, Miami Hankerson will give Tom Brady an additional weapon for the Pats already dangerous offense.
34 Buffalo Bills LT, DE, Rush LB, RT, WR, TE, ILB, CB3 Brooks Reed, OLB, Arizona Reed is a great OLB prospect that is flying up draft boards. At pick 34, he is great value and will help improve that Bills defense.
35 Cincinnati Bengals DE, RB, ILB, QB, LG, SS, K, KR Jake Locker, QB, Washington Locker is an incredible athlete that could help soften the blow of Carson Palmer's pending retirement or trade. He will need some time to develop but if he is coached up he can become a stud.
36 Denver Broncos DT, LB, TE, DE, S, RB2, LT, RT, CB3 Stephen Paea, DT, Oregon State Paea is an absolute monster and he and Dareus will turn a huge weakness for the Broncos into a strength.
37 Cleveland Browns WR, RT, DE, Weak LB, CB, RG, SS, K Torrey Smith, WR, Maryland Smith is an incredibly fast player that if he improves his route running will be a star.
38 Arizona Cardinals QB, LT, Rush LB, LG, RT, CB, FS Sam Acho, OLB, Texas Acho and Miller will give the Cardinals a fearsome pair of OLB's which will help the defense tremendously.
39 Tennessee Titans QB, LG, ILB, C, Weak LB, SS, DT Christian Ponder, QB, Florida State Ponder is an incredible athlete with great arm strength and accuracy. He does not have a major flaw and is NFL ready.
40 Dallas Cowboys RT, FS, RE, LG, SS, DL, WR Rahim Moore, FS, UCLA Moore is not the best FS prospect I have ever seen but he has no major flaws and should be able to contribute at a very high level in the NFL
41 Washington Redskins QB, WR, Rush LB, ILB, NT, CB, RE, FS, RG, C, FB, K, P Jerrell Jernigan, WR, Troy Jernigan is a play-maker that can have a huge impact on the offense of the redskins. He is a constant homerun threat.
42 Houston Texans NT, Rush LB, FS, SS, CB, WR, P, DL Brandon Harris, CB, Miami Harris falls due to concerns about his size to be a starting CB. I think he has the athleticism to make up for his lack of height and he is a steal here.
43 Minnesota Vikings QB, 2OLB, 2S, TE, CB, RG, WR, LE, K, C, DT Robert Sands, SS, WVU Sands is an absolute ball hawk with great instincts and a great work ethic.
44 Detroit Lions OLB, CB, LT, C, SS, RB Aaron Williams, CB, Texas Williams is great value and fills a big need. He has great size and speed and can shadow a receiver in man coverage.
45 San Francisco 49ers QB, DE, Rush LB, FS, WR, OT Christian Ballard, DE, Iowa Ballard is a very under the radar prospect that could blossom into a superstar.
46 Denver Broncos LB, TE, DE, S, RB2, LT, RT, CB3 Kyle Rudolph, TE, Notre Dame Rudolph has great size and a good overall balance of receiving and blocking. He has the work ethic and skill set to be an elite TE.
47 St. Louis Rams RG, DT, Weak LB, SS, TE, RB, CB, DE Benjamin Ijlana, OG, Villanova Ijalana is a great guard with versatility to play tackle.
48 Oakland Raiders CB, RT, LG, C, Strong LB, WR1, TE Curtis Brown, CB, Texas Brown has the physical size to be a future #1 CB in this league and could be the replacement to Namdi Asoumagua(sp?)
49 Jacksonville Jaguars FS, CB, WR, Weak LB, QB, OL Titus Young, WR, Boise State Young is a speed demon but also has decent size and route running. He is the BPA and could become the next Desean Jackson.
50 San Diego Chargers Rush LB, RT, ILB, WR, FS, CB3, ST Greg Jones, ILB, Michigan State Jones has very good size and speed and will be a great fit at ILB for the Chargers.
51 Tampa Bay Buccaneers DE, ILB, RT, LG, Strong LB, RB, C, CB Jason Pinkston, OT, Pittsburgh Pinkston is good for the Bucs because he can play either RT or guard. Both are needs for the Bucs so they take him here
52 New York Giants LB, C, RB, CB, TE, FS, DT Stefen Wisniewski, C, Penn State Stefen is easily the BPA and fills a huge need for the Giants.
53 Indianapolis Colts RT, DT, RG, WR, SS, RB, QB Drake Nevis, DT, LSU Nevis is a hard worker who possesses great strength and a great set of moves to get after the QB. He should fit into the Colts system as well.
54 Philadelphia Egales RT, 2CB, 2OLB, SS, DE Mason Foster, OLB, Washington Foster is a perfect fit for the Eagles 4-3 defense and should give a boost to their weak OLB group.
55 Kansas City Chiefs WR, NT, QB, LT, RT, C, RB, ILB Tandon Doss, WR, Indiana Doss is an incredible weapon to have in your offense. He can do it all and gives the Chiefs a real 2nd WR to help Dwayne Bowe.
56 New Orleans Saints OLB, DE, RT, RB, Strong LB, SS Mikel Leshoure, RB, Illinois Leshoure will give the Saints a true #1 RB to combine with Reggie Bush and Ivory.
57 Seattle Seahawks SS, RT, LE, WR1, RG, QB, K Randall Cobb, WR, Kentucky Cobb has the skill set to be a superstar in this league. He can play WR, RB, and KR as well. He will give the Seahawks an incredible weapon to add to their offense.
58 Baltimore Ravens WR, CB, ILB, RT, RG Quan Sturdivant, ILB, UNC Sturdivant will give the Ravens a player to groom to eventually replace Ray Lewis.
59 Atlanta Falcons WR, LT, 2G, SS, Strong LB, CB3, TE, DE Rodney Hudson, OG, Florida State Hudson is a very talented player that just needs to put on 15 pounds to become a star.
60 New England Patriots G, OT, RB Marcus Cannon, OG, TCU Cannon is incredible value and fills the Pats biggest remaining need.
61 San Diego Chargers Rush LB, RT, WR, FS, CB3, ST Jabaal Sheard, OLB, Pittsburgh Sheard is a player I think will rise on draft day. He is a great athlete that knows how to produce. He fits in well in the Chargers defense.
62 Chicago Bears LG, DT, C, WR1, Strong LB, RB, DE, P Marvin Austin, DT, UNC Austin is an ideal fit for the Bears system and is great va;ue here. He is a 1st round talent that falls due to injuries and work ethic.
63 Pittsburgh Steelers RG, CB, OT, DE, FS, P Ras I Dowling, CB, Virginia Dowling is a 1st round talent that is only available because of a nagging injury. He has pro-bowl potential and will make Pittsburgh's defense the best in the league again.
64 Green Bay Packers LG, DE, RB, OT, WR, K Danny Watkins, OG, Baylor Watkins is a great talent but his age makes him available here. Since the Packers are built to win now, they cam take him here despite being 27 years old.
65 Carolina Panthers 2DT, WR1, RG, RDE, TE, CB Jurrell Casey, DT, USC A good scheme fit that will help improve the Panthers run defense.
66 Cincinnati Bengals DE, RB, ILB, LG, SS, K, KR Allen Bailey, DE, Miami Bailey is a player that can be a solid starter for the Bengals for a long time. He is very athletic but needs to use that athleticism to his advantage.
67 Denver Broncos LB, DE, S, RB2, LT, RT, CB3 Quinton Carter, FS, Oklahoma Carter has no major weakness but no incredible strengths. He has the potential to be a very good safety for the Broncos.
68 Buffalo Bills LT, DE, RT, WR, TE, ILB, CB3 Marcus Gilbert, OT, Florida Gilbert can play either tackle position but is probably suited more as a LT. He is already used to blocking for a mobile QB so blocking for Newton won't be a problem.
69 Arizona Cardinals QB, LT, LG, RT, CB, FS Colin Kaepernick, QB, Nevada Kaepernick has great athleticism and good arm strength and should be a solid starer for the Cardinals.
70 Cleveland Browns RT, DE, Weak LB, CB, RG, SS, K Pernell McPhee, DE, Mississippi State McPhee is a proto-typical 4-3 DE that should help the Browns transition to their 4-3.

83 New York Giants LB, RB, CB, TE, FS, DT Ryan Williams, RB, Virginia Tech Williams is the BPA and could give the Giants a 1-2-3 punch at RB or they could let one of their two RB's walk away if they can't afford either of them.

No to McDaniels

The Colts don’t go for character concerns early.

I’d also prefer Watkins or Hudson to Nevis. I like Nevis, but he’s a lot like Moala and Foster.

Choke/Clutch is the fetishization of the small sample size.

Colts

Love new format. I’ll break it down round by round:

1: Love it.

2: Not crazy on Nevis because he’s a 3-tech not a 1-tech.

3: Don’t like it. I’d prefer to see Tyler Sash

4: An ok pick, but I could also see going to Brewer because RT desperately needs an upgrade

5:Not sure about Powell because the Colts backfield is already crowded. I’d have to go back and look at tape of his hands and blocking ability. Otherwise, Shake is quite high on Jailil Brown and I trust him.

6:solid versatile player

Some quibbles, mostly in the second and third rounds, but on the whole a solid outing for the Colts. Major A for effort on the 7 rounder.

I could sadly see the draft going this way for the Cowboys

where they ignore offensive line and instead bank on there being some sort of free agency so we can overpay some guy to play RT. So really, as much as I dislike this outcome in the sense of not addressing the O-line, it wouldn’t shock me if it happened. The silver lining of this draft would be the fact that we would inject some more youth into our secondary.

If I had a nickel for every time the Eagles won the Super Bowl, I would have zero nickels

Agree

O-line needs to be fixed and I don’t like Prince at 9. Hopefully we’ll trade down and then pick an OT.

This is worst case scenario for me.

I really hope we are done trying the shit on wall approach to OL drafting. There is no one is this draft that I am happy to have on the Cowboys.

Without trades this is how I would change this.
1rst – Tyron Smith
2nd – Stefan Wisnewski
3rd – Jerrel Powe
4th – DeMarcus VanDyke
5th – Kelvin Sheppard
6th – Darell Scott
7th – Anyone left not named Nield.

Seahawks

No to WR in round 2, the need for WR is just too small compared to other needs on our roster. Would rather have Mallet if he fell that far and use the McElroy pick to get some depth on the lines. We already have one “could start, but most likely a backup” QB in Charlie Whitehurst. But other than that pretty solid.

+1 on the props, good work man

gotta agree on the Mallet pick though, If he went all the the way to round two, they would probably snag him. Mallet, Smith and Barksdale, what a draft that would be!!!! Good work!!

Oooo look at this!

Giants draft is pretty good. I hate Nate Solder, but I’d agree he could be the pick there. The 2nd to the 7th was some masterpiece stuff. The RB is one thing I’d question, but I think Williams is a good player and excellent value there.

And if its a RB, I’d probably prefer Vereen anyway, but that’s nit-picking since the Giants did spend a visit on Williams.

I’m sure this draft would send plenty of “drafting a LBzez = Super Bowl champions” cretins off a cliff, but that’s OK by me.

consider me a cretin about to run off a cliff.

It’s not a bad mock by any means for the Giants. Personal preference is

1) Mike Pouncey, C
2) Mason Foster, OLB
3) Joseph Barksdale, OT
4) Jaiquawn Jarrett, FS
6) Taiwan Jones, RB
6) Cortez Allen, CB
6) Lee Smith, TE
7) Owen Marecic, FB

That would be a disgusting disgusting draft for the Giants

Final Dream Draft

1) Akeem Ayers, OLB
2) Marvin Austin, DT
3) Jake Kirkpatrick, OC
4) Chimdi Chekwa, CB
6) Henry Hynoski, FB
6) Jarriel King, OT
6) Josh Bynes, ILB
7) Ricardo Lockette, KR/PR

the more I look at any of these LBs

its more apparent they’re already on the roster. Maybe if our guys can stay healthy in camp, if there is one, and play during the season maybe we can get a better look.

I like this draft

These are reasonable picks. Not my favorite OL players, but I’ll forgive you since you did 7 rounds. We could like Williams, and Jarrett would be a good replacement for Grant as the 3rd safety.

For LB, Hogue is a good value in the 6th, we could use someone with great athleticism. SAM will have to work itself out. Cortez Allen is great.

My one change I’ll have to call for is Cameron. We already have a young receiving TE in Beckum. Who does not play much because TEs are primarily blockers for the Giants. Lee Smith would be a better fit.

"Good, bad, I'm the guy with the gun."

by ct17 on Apr 22, 2011 1:12 AM EDT up reply actions

I dunno

I like Cameron, reminds me of Boss. Maybe getting a younger more athletic version of Bossman without the cobwebs in that noggin is a good thing. Beckum can’t block cuz he just never did it, like at all in college. Cameron was an actual TE, so he did it some.

you're right about that

I suppose we have to hope that everything works itself out then. I’m willing to see what Adrian Tracy can do.

I’m losing alot of faith in Sintim. He was healthy in the beginning of the year and still couldn’t beat out Bulluck. Still though, I guess JR still has hope, so who knows.

Final Dream Draft

1) Akeem Ayers, OLB
2) Marvin Austin, DT

I mean it could have been better, considering I love Martez Wilson in the first, and Houston was kind of a risk…but for the most part I like the positions you hit and how you gave us great depth. This was probably the only 7 round mock that I love for us props man.

Great job Mocking for the Packers

There’s really not much to say. You got us a 3rd down back, which is what we need. At least based upon what you’re telling me he seems like one…..I like Watkins in the 2nd Round, just not in the 1st (although we’re not built to win now, we are built to win for a long time).

The only thing I criticize is Martez Wilson at #32. He’s projected as an ILB in either scheme. It’s way too risky to try and move him to OLB, where the role is drastically different. The Packers are kind of a hard one to pick for here though because all of our guys are taken just before #32. If Green Bay was in this situation, I would probably go after CB Brandon Harris. Not that I like him a lot or anything, but he would provide depth in case Charles Woodson gets injured. Sir Charles after all is catching up in age….

Gray sounds interesting. Can he play LDE?

You can have Forbath. I want Henery.

Cuff is a good pick if he can contribute on ST.

Anthony Gray

I’m not too familiar with Gray, but he has the size to man the LE position being 317 lbs. However, he’s a little short for what you would like out of a DE. I can see the packers asking him to add another 10 lbs to rotate in at LE out of the base and be a backup at NT for Raji. Pickett and Green are both catching up in age and I don’t expect them to return to Green Bay after the 2011 Season. So I wouldn’t envision him as a starter by any means, but a solid backup for Raji and someone to rotate in at LE for the base.

I'd love it if J.J. Watt fell

not only could he hold down the fort as a DE in the 3/4 he can also stay in for our nickle packages. And don’t for get, he was a TE before he transferred to Wisconsin. He could be useful as a blocking TE in goal-line and other offensive packages.

I personally am not very high on Jones ILB. I also don’t think, from past history, AJ Smith will draft an ILB that high.

A true FB. He’s talented, yes, but it’s just not AJ’s style. think blocking TE.

As for the Nebraska guys,
Paul has all the intangibles and should contribute right away for the Browns.

Great intangibles isn’t really how I’d describe Niles.

I admire that you’ve stayed pretty consisent on your opinion of Hagg and Gomes. I too think they will both contribute in some way.

I think DEN is a great landing spot for Helu. He can replace the other Nebraska RB that can’t stay healthy, and could play a significant role as a rookie.

Keith Williams is a good pick for Atlanta. He’s a bit of a risk, but in the 6th round he’s a great selection. He has the strength to be a solid run-blocking OG, which I’m sure Michael Turner would appreciate.

So who signs Mike McNeill as an UDFA?

Great job for the Saints

Filled a lot of needs. I like Leshoure over Ingram too, so I’m happy with that pick. Bruce Carter in the third is great.

This was a great draft for the Bucs

I might have changed a pick or two but really it looks great.

Perfect

Draft for the Cards… I hope it happens. Only thing I don’t like is seeing the 49ers take Peterson….. Thats going to hurt when we play against them

Ravens

I’m not a fan of the first two picks. In the first I think Wilkerson or Justin Houston would be better fits for us and in the 2nd I think Dowling could be a possibility if there and I think we would really consider Greg Little. If not in the 2nd I just don’t see us pasing on Little again in the 3rd. We do need a speed WR, but skill wise Little is better than Gates and I wouldn’t even mind grabbing both. I will not be shocked if we go out and get 2 WR’s this draft. As far as the 3rd round on I have no problem and feel those would be some solid picks. Props on the 7 round mock.

I like the formatting

I think some players are too low, such as Gilchrist and Culliver. No way Culliver falls to the 7th with his size and speed.

Tejay Johnson is not playing football. Said he’s giving it up to pursue some kind of career helping others. And he is from TCU.

Cool format

Love Dareus Paea, and Rudolph. I like Carter as well, but with Bruce Carter still available I think we would go in that direction. S is a big need, but LB is even bigger and Carter is a 1st round talent.

If you reply to a comment/post/fanshot of mine, I will more likely then not respond to it, unless you come off like a d-bag.

Wow I forgot they had the same last name lol

I like Q Carter, but with B Carter still available I think we go B Carter, he’s the 1st round talent and plays a position of our biggest need

didn't see you also gave us Helu jr.

great pick there, we need some young’un who can give us a few solid carries

lions

list of needs – 2 OLB, CB, LT, C, SS, RB – change LT to RG.. we dont need a SS.. but we do need a slot WR

1st LB Ayers – love the pick

2nd CB A Willems – if his 40 is any indication he will be a S in the nfl…he should be a good one but not a need for us… rather see house here who i could not find in your mock

3rd OC Kirkpatrick – not horrible but he needs to add a few pounds imo… not sure how he will do in a PBS either,, rather see Tim Barnes.. he needs to add pounds as well but he is a much bett pass protector imo

4th RB Vereen – not a fan.. G Little D Murray D Carter are all better fits and better value imo

5th S Hines – as i said above we dont need a S.. coleman is better then hines.. like to see us go RB J Harper or a WR like D Moore

7th WR webber – if we havent gone WR yet maybe.. but we did get a 7th round WR last year so i donno..

overall not to bad you seemed to ht the positions for the most part just not system fits witch is the hard part.. other then that another LB would have been nice.. didnt see where L Wilson went but i have my eye on him as a 4th or 5th rounder

RIP KURTIS CHAIVRE

by det32 on Apr 22, 2011 8:37 AM EDT reply actions

Im not as sold as det32

I question nearly every pick. Ayers fits a need but picked way too high. Aaron Williams if he can stay at corner is a good pick but I think hes alot like the Lions 3rd rounder last year Amari Spievey. A college corner that was switched to S. Kirkpatrick fits a need but hes drafted way too high. Vereen is an interesting pick. Hes a tough back and decent value at 107 but is he the inside bruiser Detroit needs? maybe not but again I think he runs harder and is more physical than Best so he can complement him. Hines isn’t a need and is drafted too high. Webber I cant speak much on. WR is a need and if this guy can suceed in the NFL hes worth a 7th round pick.

Aaron Williams can definitely play corner in the NFL. I can almost guarantee that

that williams projects more as a safety in the NFL..

agreed

If Jimmy Smith is a top 15 talent then why’s he a reach at 13? I would rather take Smith there and pick from a crop of talented linebackers in the 2nd round. Like that you have us going with an interior lineman with the 3rd though

I would be pissed if these were our picks. There is only one or two that I like.

I like the Jets draft

Not crazy about Dion Lewis but as a late round pick I’d be ok with it. Guy in the 3rd is a good pick and while personally I don’t think Houston will be the game changing pass rusher they so desperately need I wouldn’t fault them for taking him.

Good work

I like your formatting, as many have said here. As for the Colts:

1st-Love it, obviously. Fits a need and fits in.
2nd-I like him, though I’ve never been a big DT in the early rounds fan. My dream is that Paea scares people off with his injury and slips to us…yeah right.
3rd-Not a huge fan, but fills a need.
4th-Don’t know much about him. Have the Colts called him in? Usualy this doesn’t mean anything, but I’ve heard nothing.
5th-I don’t understand the fascination with mocking RBs to Indy. Too many other needs. I’d go WR at some point.
6th-Again, we have two very viable TEs, don’t use a FB. But as a late round flier, sure.

I don’t know who I would prefer over your picks, because I’m no expert. Salas in the 4th and Guard help later? The trouble with this year’s OL class for Indy is there appears to be very few versatile interior linemen, but plenty of OTs who may not overwhelm anyone but will be start-worthy. As usual, Polian will go best available. But I’d be shocked if he didn’t address OL with two of the first four picks like you have it here. Safety in the first four rounds is a fair bet too. As others have said, Sash fits in (Iowa guy…he LOVES big ten safeties and corners). IDK. I know very little.

Thanks. Great work.

Pick 159

Where’d it go? I was scrolling through the 5th round looking for the Pats pick and I couldn’t find it :P

Love the dedication though!

Nice Jags mock for the most part

1) Cam Jordan- Can’t argue with that

2)Titus Young- I love his game, he has great speed and will be a threat in the league but BPA would have to be Kaepernick at that point with what is left of the board.

3)Brandon Burton- Great 3rd rounder

4)Delonte Carter- Not better than Greg Little, Greg Romeus, Jaiqwaun Jarret, or DeMarco Murry in my opinion.

4) Pat Devlin- If the top of the draft were to workout the way you have it, I wouldn’t mind this pick, I’m not as down on him as most.

5) Tejay Johnson- I heard he wasn’t playing football but even if he was, I don’t like him more than Kelvin Sheppard or Colin McCarthy. You even have 4 CBs I would take before him in the 5th, Sherman, House, Chekwa, and Brown would be the pick before Johnson.

6) Jonas Mouton- I like him alot in the 6th

by Sylvester.The.Jaguar.fan on Apr 24, 2011 12:49 AM EDT reply actions

No Heyward please. Not as strong as people think he is, plus he stated he LOVES the Steelers, so that makes me hate him. Plus I see Baltimore going after Houston or Wilkerson there.

Also, the Ravens don’t take CB’s after the 3rd round, Ozzie Newsome and Eric DeCosta have stated that publicly twice this off season. And we especially won’t be taking two. Although I do like the Jalil Brown pick.

But damn good job putting this whole thing together, you are a mock nerd and I mean that in the best way possible!

Love thhe color thing shows you are serious somewhat.

Not ok with draft but you made me go look at some people i never thought to be on our team. Like eric hagg. All and all not a bad draft you address our needs. Kerley would be a much younger kevin walter but with speed.

by southpaw70 on Apr 24, 2011 2:37 PM EDT reply actions

Eric Hagg is a solid pick.

I’m surprised you hadn’t heard about him, unless you don’t watch college ball. For some reason all the TV guys loved to gush over him whenever Nebraska played.

Hagg is struggling a bit in civerage last I heard, but he does have potential to be a good safety. Worst case scenario he’s a very good ST contributor.

I think this is a pretty solid draft for the Eagles

I like demarco murray in the 4th and I think he and McCoy would be a terrific 2 back tandem. I like mason foster a lot too and Pouncey would be a good solution for the revolving door that is the Eagles Right guard position.
