KA1Z3R's Seven Round Mock, Added Important Notice at Bottom

This is my first attempt at a full seven round mock. Not predicting trades. Will explain first and second round selections and any other significant picks or picks I feel will need explained. Not necessarily picks I agree with, just what I see happening. I apologize beforehand if I accidentally left out a high caliber player. Like I said, these picks are not necessarily what's best for the teams, just what I see happening. While a team may have needed say, a corner, but instead made sure to address their O-Line and taken a best available player or two.

ALSO, please let me know who you think the winners and losers of the draft are, and who the biggest reaches and steals are.

Hope you enjoy!

Star-divide

 FIRST ROUND-

1. Carolina Panthers- Cam Newton QB Auburn- Don't agree with this pick at all. Cam will need quite some time to develop and learn, has accuracy and mechanics issues, and is inconsistent at times. Much greater needs for this team and there's no line or receivers for Cam. Just stick with the actual decently accurate QB in Clausen who doesn't need a couple seasons to develop. Unfortunately, they won't.

2. Denver Broncos- Marcel Dareus DE/DT Alabama- Denver switching to the 4-3, need 4-3 D-Linemen. Dareus could be very good and is arguably one of the safest picks in the draft.

3. Buffalo Bills- Von Miller OLB Texas A/M- Will either be an elite player, or a good starter. Can't see Miller ending up as a bad player. Fits the Buffalo 3-4 and gives them much needed pass rush.

via cdn.bleacherreport.net

4. Cincinnati Bengals- Blaine Gabbert QB Mizzou- Cincy needs a QB. They need to start over on offense. Gabbert can come in and start immediately and be a pretty solid QB. I've seen a lot of mocks with AJ Green here, but there's plenty of receivers in this draft. Cincy can get a good starter in the second. No need risking on Ryan Mallet in the second. Take the guarantee at QB.

5. Arizona Cardinals- Robert Quinn OLB/DE North Carolina- Cards make a reach and go for Quinn. Quinn doesn't seem to have lost a step and would bring immediate pass rush to the Cardinals. There's a ton of talk out there that they'll be looking for a vet when the CBA gets done and might just get a guy later on. Robert Quinn looks like Brian Orakpo, but better against the run. Arizona likes that.

6. Cleveland Browns- Julio Jones WR Alabama- The Browns passing on AJ Green? That's right. Jones better fits their West Coast scheme. Jones is very sure handed and the team needs a possession guy in their West Coast scheme who can pick yards after catch. Julio also arguably the best blocking receiver in the draft, and the Browns love to run the ball.

7. San Francisco 49ers- Patrick Peterson CB LSU- Niners weak secondary, Peterson looks like best corner in draft since Darelle Revis. Pretty simple.

8. Tennesse Titans- Nick Fairley DT Auburn- Titans need a playmaker on defense and go for the biggest playmaker on the D-Line in the draft. Has some consistency and character issues, but I think Tennessee takes the risk for the insanely high reward. Probably go QB in the second.

9. Dallas Cowboys- Prince Amukamara CB Nebraska- This draft is deep on the offensive line and Prince is almost as good as Patrick Peterson. I can't see Dallas passing on Amukamara. Their secondary is horrible.

Prince-amukamara_medium

10. Washington Redskins- AJ Green WR Georgia- Washington needs a big playmaker in their passing game no matter who the QB is. I thought about Jake Locker as a possibility here, but I don't see Washington passing up a receiver like AJ Green. A do-everything jack-of-all-trades kind of guy, Green gives the next Redskins a dangerous and consistent receiver.

11. Houston Texans- Aldon Smith OLB/DE Mizzou- Aldon Smith is a pass rushing animal who fits the mold of a DeMarcus Ware. New defensive coordinator Wade Phillips sure would love that to build his new 3-4 scheme around that. If Prince was here, he'd be the pick, but the Texans "settle" on Smith. If by settle you mean, still get a potentially great pass rusher for their 3-4 defense.

12. Minnesota Vikings- JJ Watt DE Wisconsin- Watt is a bit of a reach, but Minnesota likes to have a big, mean, physical defense. They also don't care if ESPN gets on to them for reaching on players. Watt is big DE who can come in and fill the void at LDE and is a much better run stopper than what Ray Edwards was. JJ Watt is just the kind of player Minnesota loves to have.

13. Detroit Lions- Da'Quan Bowers DE Clemson- No way the Lions pass on an animal of a pass rusher like Bowers. Boosts their run defense more than people would think, and gives them another deadly pass rusher. Lions become the defensive line no one wants to match up on. Plenty of corner options later on for Detroit.

14. St. Louis Rams- Corey Liuget DT Illinois- No way the Rams pass on a guy like Liuget. In my opinion, the most sure-thing at 4-3 DT in the draft. St. Louis needs to fix that weak run defense, and Liuget is just the perfect fit. Can even learn from a guy with Super Bowl experience in Fred Robbins, the other DT for the Rams. Great situation for a great player.

15. Miami Dolphins- Jake Locker QB Washington- I don't buy the talk of Mark Ingram coming to Miami. Everyone is picking it, but I'm very skeptical. Locker meanwhile can come in and revitalize their dismal passing game. He can sit and learn while Henne plays, or compete for the spot from day one. Dolphins can get their QB of the future. There's some good running backs when they pick next in the third, and teams can usually find decent backs in free agency whenever free agency begins. I also think one of Ricky Williams or Ronnie Brown will be back.

Jake-locker_medium

16. Jacksonville Jaguars- Cameron Jordan DE California- Aldon Smith and Robert Quinn are off the board, but the Jags don't fail to find a good pass rusher in Cameron Jordan. The big physical Jordan isn't just pure pass rush though. He also does a pretty good job playing the run. So even if he doesn't pan out like an elite pass rusher like the Jags plan (deja vu), he should still be a good run stopper.

17. New England Patriots- Justin Houston OLB/DE Georgia- The Pats have plenty of picks, so they can go ahead and take the reach on Houston who could very well be an elite pass rusher. Especially with some great tutelage from Belicheck. Though the Pats would probably prefer JJ Watt.

18. San Diego Chargers- Akeem Ayers OLB/DE UCLA- Ayers is a versatile backer who plays coverage and the run very well. He'll struggle early on with his pass rush, but has shown he's capable of being a good pass rusher in a year or two. Ayers has a lot of potential and can make an impact early on.

19. New York Giants- Tyron Smith OT USC- Smith drops all the way to 19th where the Giants will happily pick him up. A lot are saying that New York will nab Castonzo, but I think the Giants take the athletic and, in my opinion, more well-rounded lineman in Smith who has a ton of potential.

20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Ryan Kerrigan DE Purdue- Tampa was 31st in sacks last year, they need a good edge rusher. I think Kerrigan will be a good DE in the NFL with potential to be elite. Kerrigan can come in an be a 7 or 8 sack guy his rookie year and adds some help on edge rush containment.

21. Kansas City Chiefs- Phil Taylor NT Baylor- The Chiefs need a nose tackle very badly. No more developmental picks, time for the immediate impact players. Taylor is an absolute animal of a run stopper who gobbles up blockers like a Hungry, Hungry Hippo. The Chiefs have needed a guy like Taylor for quite a while. No way they pass up on him.

Philtaylor_medium

via www.thenationalfootballreport.com

22. Indianapolis Colts- Anthony Castonzo OT Boston College- The Colts rush to the podium as Castonzo, arguably the best pass blocker in the draft, falls down to 22. Indy needs to protect Peyton Manning, and few are better for the task than Castonzo. Not a great run blocker, but the Colts don't really need him to be. Though he has potential to become a good run blocker in a year or two.

23. Philadelphia Eagles- Jimmy Smith CB Colorado- Few mocks don't have Smith going to the Eagles and for very good reason. Jimmy Smith could very easily be at 23, and he gives them a playmaker opposite Asante Samuel to give them a feared secondary once again.

24. New Orleans Saints- Mark Ingram RB Alabama- Their dismal and oft injured running back corps; no way they pass up on Ingram. Saints fans cheer the most they have since they won the Super Bowl, this is just that big of a deal.

25. Seattle Seahawks- Christian Ponder QB Florida State- People are saying that if Locker isn't here, then Seattle takes Ryan Mallet......why? His big inaccurate arm doesn't fit their West Coast scheme at all. Ponder is an accurate guy who fits the offense like a glove. Can start and make an immediate impact, bringing a breath of fresh air to the offense. Mallet to Seattle? C'mon man!

26. Balitmore Ravens- Derek Sherrod OT Mississippi State- Baltimore needs a tackle to play opposite Oher. A fellow player from a Mississippi college, Sherrod is a very balanced lineman who can do whatever you ask of him. He just seems to fit what Baltimore needs perfectly. They love stealing him away, just as they love getting steals every year.

Derek-sherrod-21_medium

via www.thenationalfootballreport.com

27. Atlanta Falcons- Adrian Clayborn DE Iowa- The Falcons need someone to replace Jamaal Anderson, and someone to play on the other side of him. Clayborn is a great mix of pass rush and run stop. He can come in and bring immediate improvement and give Atlanta a very dangerous DE duo. The Falcons could also look at Torrey Smith or Leonard Hankerson, but they gotta shore up their defense.

28. New England Patriots- Mikel Leshoure RB Illinois- New England needs a feature back, Leshoure is a sure thing and a very tough runner. Enough said.

29. Chicago Bears- Gabe Carimi OT/OG Wisconsin- Big, physical, versatile, and most importantly, consistent. The Bears need consistency from their linemen, and Carimi is a good place to start. Also a mean lineman and the Bears love that mean bully mentality on offense and defense. Their finesse offense gets an attitude and great lineman to build around in Carimi.

30. New York Jets- Cameron Heyward DE Ohio State- What a steal! A solid defensive end who's stout against the run to play opposite Shaun Ellis, Heyward is yet another one of those immediate impact guys. The only thing that could be better is if Phil Taylor dropped this far. But Cameron Heyward might just be the best consolation prize there is.

31. Pittsburgh Steelers- Mike Pouncey G/C Florida- The Pouncey brothers reunited, Mike is not as good as Maurkice, but is still one hell of a guard. Steelers can build around those two for a decade, just what Pittsburgh likes.

32. Green Bay Packers- Brooks Reed OLB/DE Arizona- The Packers really want someone to take the attention away from Clay Matthews. Well until DeMarcus Ware becomes a free agent (because no one is ever going to take the attention away from Clay), Reed will do just fine. A great pass rushing DE for Arizona, he can easily shift to OLB and give the defending Super Bowl champs a good pass rusher.

SECOND ROUND-

33. New England Patriots- Muhammad Wilkerson DT Temple- Can play 3-4 DE for the Patriots and help out their rush defense. Would do very well playing beside Wilfork. Would give New England a big and overpowering D-Line.

34. Buffalo Bills- Nate Solder OT Colorado- Bills need better O-Line play and Solder is a balanced guy who can start from Day 1.

35. Cincinnati Bengals- Jonathan Baldwin WR Pitt- You think Cincy would pass up on a tall, physical, sure-handed receiver for their new QB? Yeah me either. Baldwin could be very good, especially if Chad Johnson (refuse to call him Ochocinco) is kept. Him and Jordan Shipley could become a very good receiver duo.

Jonathan-baldwin-20111_medium

via nflsoup.com

36. Denver Broncos- Mason Foster LB Washington- Most mocks have Kyle Rudolph here, but Denver really needs to get 4-3 players and good ones. Their defense needs more help right now, and defensive-minded John Fox won't hesitate on the well-rounded and athletic Mason Foster.

37. Cleveland Browns- Stephen Paea DT Oregon State- Cleveland gets a disruptive D-Lineman to help boost their pass rush. This is a very nice steal for the Browns.

38. Arizona Cardinals- Brandon Harris CB Miami- Harris gives the Cardinals another good man-to-man corner opposite Rogers-Cromartie to go with their improved pass rush. Not a bad way to revitalize a defense.

39. Tennesse Titans- Andy Dalton QB TCU- Dalton might be a great QB some day. Tennesse has a good line, a great running game, and a good receiver in Kenny Britt. So there's plenty for Andy Dalton to work with once it's his time to start, which might actually be Day 1.

40. Dallas Cowboys- Marcus Gilbert OT Florida- A big athletic lineman who is a very solid pass blocker. Could be a big lift to the Dallas O-Line. Might be too big for their ZBS, but Gilbert is athletic enough to play in it. No way Dallas passes on his pass protection ability.

Marcusgilbert_medium

via www.giantsgab.com

41. Washington Redskins- Ryan Mallet QB Arkansas- The Redskins got their big play WR, now they get a big play QB. Mallet is far from a safe pick, but Washington takes the risk anyway with visions of deep balls to AJ Green and Santana Moss dancing in their heads.

42. Houston Texans- Rahim Moore S UCLA- Everyone says Houston needs a corner, and they do, but they also need a safety just about as bad. There's not really a great corner at this point, but Moore is a playmaker at safety.

Rahim-moore_medium

via 4.bp.blogspot.com

43. Minnesota Vikings- Greg Little WR North Carolina- I feel pretty confident in the Vikings sticking with Joe Webb at QB. He showed a lot of potential, and the only other QB left is too similar to Webb. So the Vikings may as well get a big sure-handed receiver to replace Sidney Rice.

44. Detroit Lions- James Carpenter OT Alabama- The Lions need help at the tackle positions. Carpenter was a very good pass blocker for Alabama and brings a big strong guy to the Detroit line.

45. San Francisco 49ers- Marvin Austin DT North Carolina- The Niners have a big need for a pass rush OLB, but the chance at a 1st round talent to play 3-4 DE is too much to pass up. Huge steal if he actually pans out.

46. Denver Broncos- Kyle Rudolph TE Notre Dame- They didn't get him before, but they get him now. Rudolph is without a doubt the best TE in the draft and is a reliable option for Tebow/Orton.

47. St. Louis Rams- Leonard Hankerson WR Miami- The Rams have a major need at WR and they really need a playmaker. Hankerson and Torrey Smith both fit the role, but Hankerson is much more consistent.

48. Oakland Raiders- Stefen Wisniewski G/C Penn State- The Raiders need new linemen for their power block scheme and Wis can come in and play either guard or center and bring immediate improvement. Great pass blocker and an improvement to the run blocking. His uncle Steve Wisniewski is an O-Line coach.

49. Jacksonville Jaguars- Ras-I Dowling CB Virginia- Dowling falls and the Jags are happy to scoop him up. Fast physical corner who fits the mold of the Jags.

50. San Diego Chargers- Christian Ballard DE Iowa- Big physical end who plays the run very well. Finally get a replacement for Igor Olshansky.

51. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Ryan Williams RB Virginia Tech- Tampa needs a back to complement LaGarrette Blount and give them a 1-2 punch. Williams is a good back with playmaking ability.

19817d1302022697-virginia-tech-rb-ryan-williams-accepts-invite-ryan-williams_medium

via gridironfans.com

52. New York Giants- Danny Watkins G Baylor- Linebacker is a need for New York, but there are better backs later on. Watkins might be the best guard in the draft and is a huge steal at this point.

53. Indianapolis Colts- Jarvis Jenkins DT Clemson- The Colts need a DT to strengthen their interior run D. Jenkins can come in and start as a solid contributor from the get go.

54. Philadelphia Eagles- Ben Ijalna OT/OG Villanova- A steal for Philly, Ijalna is a versatile and very well-rounded lineman who might be a star one day.

55. Kansas City Chiefs- Jabaal Sheard OLB/DE Pittsburgh- The Chiefs need a pass rusher opposite Tamba Hali, and Sheard is a great pass rushing prospect.

56. New Orleans Saints- Bruce Carter OLB North Carolina- Good linebacker with a lot of potential who fits in well with their 4-3 scheme. The only thing that could have been better was if Mason Foster had fallen this far.

57. Seattle Seahawks- Titus Young WR Boise State- The Seahawks need a legitimate number 1 receiver. Mike Williams won't ever be that number 1, and Golden Tate looks like a slot guy, but Young is a do-it-all number 1 WR guy.

Titus-young-senior-bowl-catch_medium_medium

via assets.sbnation.com

58. Baltimore Ravens- Davon House New Mexico State- A big, fast, physical press corner? Baltimore gobbles up another steal.

59. Atlanta Falcons- Torrey Smith WR Maryland- How far can having inconsistent hands cause you to drop in the draft? The bottom of the second. Smith is a big time speed demon and would immediately force defenses to stop eying only Roddy White.

60. New England Patriots- Marcus Cannon OT/OG TCU- The Pats get a big, physical, versatile lineman to either bring immediate impact, or develop to replace aging starters. Either way, Pats love the steal.

61. San Diego Chargers- Jerrel Jernigan WR Troy- The Chargers could use a big playmaker at receiver and just overall depth at receiver. Jernigan's speed adds a gamebreaker to the offense and to the special teams.

L4913740_medium

via d.yimg.com

62. Chicago Bears- Rodney Hudson C Florida State- Bears get another immediate impact guy for the O-Line. Hudson is a center, but can play guard for the Bears' ZBS.

63. Pittsburgh Steelers- Aaron Williams CB Texas- Pittsburgh needs a corner. Williams is an athletic guy who can up and play well against the run, a big attribute for the Pittsburgh defense.

64. Green Bay Packers- Clint Boling OG Georgia- The Packers need a guard. Boling isn't a favorite of mine, but he's still a good prospect.

THIRD ROUND-

65. Carolina Panthers- Randall Cobb WR Kentucky- Cobb is a steal at this point. The Panthers need a good sure-handed guy to play opposite Smith and to help Newton.

66. Cincinnati Bengals- Taiwan Jones RB Eastern Washington- A high risk guy, but brings a dynamic speedster to complement Cedric Benson. Offense needs to generate big plays, and Jones can do that.

Taiwan-jones_medium

via www.rookiedraft.com

67. Denver Broncos- Curtis Brown CB Texas

68. Buffalo Bills- Colin Kaepernick QB Nevada- Just can't see Buffalo passing on the high potential of Kaepernick. He'll need a year or two to develop and learn anyway, so Fitzpatrick can still keep playing as the starter.

69. Arizona Cardinals- John Moffit G Wisconsin

70. Cleveland Browns- Dontay Moch OLB- Browns going back to 4-3 and need pass rush. Moch beast of a pass rusher.

71. Dallas Cowboys- Quinton Carter S Oklahoma

72. New Orleans Saints- Drake Nevis DT LSU- Saints snag a solid DT to help out their 4-3 defense.

73. Houston Texans- Brandon Burton CB Utah- Texans wait and get a pretty good corner.

74. New England Patriots- Edmond Gates WR Abilene Christian- Patriots don't really have a game breaker speed threat at receiver. Gates is incredibly fast and a great return option also.

Edmund-gates-web-300x300_display_image_medium

via cdn.bleacherreport.net

75. Detroit Lions- Kendall Hunter RB Oklahoma State

76. San Francisco 49ers- Daniel Thomas RB Kansas State- Westbrook isn't a great compliment for Gore, nor is he young. Daniel Thomas can fill in if Gore gets injured, or just be a good compliment to him when healthy.

77. Tennessee Titans- Jason Pinkston OG Pittsburgh

78. St. Louis Rams- DeMarco Murray RB Oklahoma- Good speedy compliment for Steven Jackson that adds new dimension to offense, great third down back to dump off to.

79. Miami Dolphins- Jordan Todman RB Connecticut- Finns grab the running back they've been needing. Good all-around back who does it all.

80. Jacksonville Jaguars- Robert Sands S West Virginia- Need upgrades at safety, Sands has potential to be great. Physical in coverage.

81. Oakland Raiders- Jaiquawn Jarrett S Temple- Bit of a reach, but Raiders need much better safety play.

82. San Diego Chargers- DeMarcus Love OT/OG Arkansas

83. New York Giants- Quan Sturdivant LB North Carolina

657008_medium

via www.giantsgab.com

84. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- James Brewer OG Indiana

85. Philadelphia Eagles- Orlando Franklin OT Miami

86. Kansas City Chiefs- Austin Pettis WR Boise State- Need a consistent possession guy, great blocker and red zone target.

87. Indianapolis Colts- DeAndre McDaniel S Clemson

88. New Orleans Saints- Sam Acho DE Texas- Versatile pass rusher who can play DE or rotate at linebacker in the 4-3 "elephant backer" role.

Samacho-nff-500pix

89. San Diego Chargers- Deunta Williams S North Carolina

90. Baltimore Ravens- Shareece Wright CB USC- Ravens need corners. Whether Wright becomes a starter or just depth, the Ravens are improved by him.

91. Atlanta Falcons- Colin McCarthy OLB Miami

92. New England Patriots- Kelvin Sheppard LB LSU

93. Chicago Bears- Tandon Doss WR Indiana- Nice to have a big consistent sure-handed guy to hang your hat on.

Tandon-doss_medium

via cdn.cloudfiles.mosso.com

94. New York Jets- Jeremy Beal OLB/DE Oklahoma- Jets need to add a good pass rushing linebacker to their defense.

95. Pittsburgh Steelers- Lee Ziemba OT Auburn

96. Green Bay Packers- Chimdi Chekwa CB Ohio State

97. Carolina Panthers- Jurrel Casey DT USC- Panthers finally get help on the D-Line with, in my opinion, a steal in Casey.

FOURTH ROUND-

98. Carolina Panthers- Luke Stocker TE Tennessee

99. Seattle Seahawks- Tim Barnes C Mizzou- Seahawks need to strengthen interior of the line. Barnes is a great pass blocker who can play guard or center.

100. Buffalo Bills- Lance Kendricks TE Wisconsin

101. Cincinnati Bengals- Will Rackley G Lehigh

102. Cleveland Browns- Nate Irving LB NC State- Browns need some 4-3 backers and Irving is a good find in the fourth.

Nate-irving_medium

via accmania.files.wordpress.com

103. Arizona Cardinals- Scott Tolzien QB Wisconsin- They get a developmental guy who can sit for a year or two, and then come in to start. Tolzien has a quick release, great accuracy, good mobility, and high intelligence. All characteristics of a great NFL QB.

104. Philadelphia Eagles- Greg Jones LB Michigan State- Can play inside or outside in their 4-3 and is a great pass rusher.

105. Houston Texans- Chris Neild NT West Virginia- Played NT in 3-3-5 and is a fast, attacking, undersized NT, just what Wade Phillips likes. Huge reach but fits the scheme perfectly.

106. Minnesota Vikings- Chris Conte S California

107. Detroit Lions- Chris Carter OLB/DE Fresno State- Lions need a rush backer.

108. San Francisco 49ers- Denarius Moore WR Tennessee- 49ers get a speedy playmaker who's sure hands might allow him to become a true #1 receiver.

109. Tennessee Titans- Curtis Marsh CB Utah State- Titans need some CB depth, Marsh could very well end up a good starter one day.

110. Dallas Cowboys- Allen Bailey DE Miami

111. Miami Dolphins- DJ Williams TE Arkansas

112. St. Louis Rams- Buster Skrine CB Chatanooga- Very fast, physical corner who also gives the Rams a deadly special teams return man.

113. Oakland Raiders- Mark Herzlich LB Boston College- Quentin Groves is not the answer at LB, let alone in a 4-3.

114. Jacksonville Jaguars- Vincent Brown WR San Diego State- Solid all-around wide receiver who fills the Torry Holt role, catching passes underneath to free up Mike Sims-Walker.

Vicent-brown_medium

via tommyschultz.files.wordpress.com

115. San Francisco 49ers- Zach Hurd G Connecticut

116. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Casey Matthews LB Oregon- Athletic linebacker who plays zone coverage well and easily snuffs out the ball carrier.

117. New York Giants- Delone Carter RB Syracuse

118. Kansas City Chiefs- Marcus Gilchrist CB Clemson- Chiefs need some corner depth

119. Indianapolis Colts- Cecil Shorts WR Mount Union- Speedy receiver who gives the Colts a dynamic game changer in the slot.

120. Philadelphia Eagles- Sione Fua DT Stanford

121. Jacksonville Jaguars- Greg McElroy QB Alabama- Jags get a solid developmental quarterback.

122. Buffalo Bills- Rashad Carmichael CB Virginia Tech

123. Baltimore Ravens- Joe Lefeged S Rutgers- Might develop into their replacement for Ed Reed.

124. Atlanta Falcons- Virgil Green TE Nevada- Future replacement for Tony Gonzales.

Virgil-green_display_image_medium

via cdn.bleacherreport.net

125. New England Patriots- Brandon Fusco C Slippery Rock

126. New York Jets- Ronald Johnson WR USC- Risky pick that might get them a playmaking slot receiver who might end up a starter one day.

127. Chicago Bears- Lawrence Guy DT Arizona State

128. Pittsburgh Steelers- Jalil Brown CB Colorado- One of Aaron Williams and Jalil Brown will pan out nicely, and if both do then all the better. Steelers need a starter and some depth.

129. Green Bay Packers- Shane Vareen RB California

130. Tennessee Titans- Chris Hairston OT Clemson- Big guy who can play tackle or guard

131. Green Bay Packers- Owen Marecic FB Stanford

149. Philadelphia Eagles- Pernell McPhee DE Mississippi State

163. Green Bay Packers- Jeremy Kerley WR TCU- If Donald Driver is retiring in the next couple years, they need to get a young, tough, possession receiver. Kerley fits the bill nicely.

164. Baltimore Ravens- KJ Wright LB Mississippi State

165. Baltimore Ravens- Alex Linnenkohl C Oregon State

SIXTH ROUND-

166. Carolina Panthers- Dane Sanzenbacher WR Ohio State

IMPORTANT NOTICE BEFORE POSTING COMMENTS OR VOTING

There's winners and losers on draft day. There's always one or two teams who's drafts make you go "what the hell were they thinking?" And I had to account for that factor as well. Trust me, there's some of these I hated mocking because I think they're gonna be bad, but that's how the draft actually is.

I looked back on draft approaches, draft history, team weaknesses and strengths, asked fans of a few teams, looked over several 7 rounders, and went off impressions from having watched a ton of college football and more than my fair share of pro games.

I picked based on how I think things will go down on draft day. teams going best available, some strictly needs, some stockpiling at positions, some thinking they're fine at positions that are in question. That's how the draft is. Sorry if I didn't do a 7 rounder that fit nice and neatly with fans want, what i think is best, or what teams actually need the most. The draft never goes that way, and a lot of fans get disappointed.

That's why i love the draft so much. The heartbreak, the triumph, the sleepers, the reaches, the great picks, the very questionable picks, and I accounted for all of these. Don't go ripping me a new one if you don't understand the concept of a realistic mock draft.

However, I am up for a good civilized debate, so please comment and critique away. Just be civil about it.

Giants draft gets an automatic F after drafting Tyron Smith

Watkins is a guard…Giants have plenty of guards to choose from, so that ain’t too great of a pick.

The rest is OK, tho Will Hill is undraftable for them. They don’t draft those sorts of knuckleheads.

I don’t personally like Tyron Smith myself, why don’t you/Giants fans/why is he not right for NY?

Watkins was a tough pick for me there but the Giants would find a way to use him, plus isn’t their line up there in years?

Its more Rorschach than all Giants fans

i have no problem with Smith at all.

rest of the draft is decent. Would rather take Harvey than Mouton, but other than that, its pretty good.

Final Dream Draft

1) Akeem Ayers, OLB
2) Marvin Austin, DT
3) Jake Kirkpatrick, OC
4) Chimdi Chekwa, CB
6) Henry Hynoski, FB
6) Jarriel King, OT
6) Josh Bynes, ILB
7) Ricardo Lockette, KR/PR

I think it's good.

People get wrapped up too much in needs.

Tyron Smith is the best Tackle in this class good value.

Danny Watkins is the best guard in this class. Good value.

Quan sturdivant is good value in the third round.

4th Round Delone Carter is a nice pick, but I’d rather add talent to the secondary there with the versatile Gilchrist or the Speedy Carmichael.

In the 6th and 7th rounds just try to get someone you think can make the roster. I’d probably try to grab one of the FB there (or Roy Helu Jr if I switch out Carter)

But good GIants mock.

If Smith is there at 19, I think he’s a lock for the Giants.

by EliManCrushing on Apr 24, 2011 9:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Smith played at 280lbs, on the right side and in an ZBS

none of which fits in NY with the Giants.

Watkins is a G. The Giants starting lineup is up there, but they ahve plenty of guards to move along there and get a year or 2 out of.

Plus you have them going OL again in the later rounds, so I just don’t see the point of taking so many OLs, tho of course Tyron Smith wouldn’t play for 3 years

by Rorschach44 on Apr 24, 2011 10:43 PM EDT up reply actions

If the Giants OL is old, why would they pick the oldest OL in the draft?

I had no problems with any of the picks other than Watkins. Right now we have Chris Snee at RG, Pro Bowler. At left guard, we have FIVE options. Seubert-Diehl-Andrews-Boothe-Petrus. Andrews may be cut but the other 4 are likely to return (all 5 are under contract). Petrus was just drafted in the 4th last year to be the young replacement at LG.

What’s wrong with Cobb and Locke? They need another receiver and someone who is a possession type guy and Cobb fits the bill. As for Locke, the Panthers backs have been banged up a bit and they need some consistent depth guys. Locke is a solid all-around back.

David Gettis is a 'possesion type'

and Mike Goodson showed this season that he’s an excellent change of pace back.

by Ol' Uncle Munnerlyn on Apr 25, 2011 12:02 AM EDT up reply actions

Gettis isn’t consistent enough though and isn’t someone the defense has to really account for. Cobb can turn an underneath 5 yard pass into a 10 or 12 yard play. I can’t see Gettis doing that. Plus there’s more upside with Cobb.

As for Locke, that was actually more of a case of “best available”

I think Gettis' inconsitency had a lot more to do with Clausen not getting him the ball

There were a lot of occasions where he was wide open down the sidelines and Clausen failed to find him. Also, as far as the Cobb pick goes, I think (regardless of our opinion on the pick) the panthers think they have that sort of player in Armanti Edwards.

by Blaze453 on Apr 24, 2011 8:25 PM EDT reply actions

Their biggest need and where I predict them to draft (not what I personally would do because this is a mock, not an “if I were GM” draft), is the fact that their offense has no weapons. There’s no receiver or running back that worries teams to break off a huge gain (unless Brown comes back). Hartline, Bess, and Marshall don’t really strike much fear into anyone (especially with Marshall’s off year and the fact he’s more a possession guy than speedy playmaker). So I felt Noel Devine was a great pick to give them a dangerous player who has touchdown potential every play.

Todman because they need at least one consistent all-around back.

Locker because Henne is not the answer by any stretch of the imagination.

DJ Williams and Niles Paul give them a couple other solid options they can throw to and both are solid blockers for their positions, something Miami likes.

And the rest were defensive depth/future starters/enhance the rotation.

If it was what I felt was best for the team, they’d have taken at least three O-Linemen but it’s what i honestly predict.

Angelo is too bull-headed

they will draft like they always do, probably trade down once or twice, take a 3tech DT with their first pick (whether it be in the 1st round or a trade down into the second). and they won’t take a receiver until probably the 3rd or 4th and a lineman in the 6th or 7th

by Ezio_Auditore on Apr 24, 2011 9:25 PM EDT reply actions

I agree completely.

If it comes down to drafting a RB in the first, I would take Leshoure over Ingram. That’s just me though, I know a lot of other Saints fans are caught up in Ingramania. Other than that though, I love the picks. 7th round is always tough to predict, but I think we could see either a SS/KR or a WR/KR with one of those 2 picks. Especially over OG, probably our best position outside of QB.

The Raven’s don’t need CB as badly as you think. No way we take 2 in the first 3 rounds. How you did not address the DE/OLB position is beyond me. That is our biggest need.

Here is how the Ravens draft should play out.

1. Sherrod is fine
2. Torrey Smith
3. Jeremy Beal
4. Jalil Brown
5. Wright is fine
5. Linnenkohl is fine
6. White is fine
6. Dominguez is fine
7. LOVE THE WUJCIAK PICK!

by Mr MaLoR on Apr 24, 2011 9:42 PM EDT reply actions

I agree with Malor and I normally wouldn’t mind Sherrod, but not with Carimi still on the board. He’s the best run blocker in the draft and the Ravens came out and said we need to run the ball better. I feel Carimi is a lot better right now than Sherrod IMO.

by AV23 on Apr 25, 2011 12:40 AM EDT up reply actions

I partly agree with both of these. I agree with Malor that Sherrod is fine if the FO wants to move Oher back to RT and wont re-sign Gaither. If they think Oher is a LT, then OT should not be the pick as I dont think it is wise to use a 1st round pick on a career RT (which is what I think Carimi will be). Wilkerson is another possibility
This is what I would have done for the Ravens:
1. Wilkerson
2. Torrey Smith
3. Curtis Marsh
4. Jah Reid (under the assumption that the FO still thinks Oher is the LT of the franchise, then a RT here makes sense)
5. Wright is fine
5. Linnenkohl is fine
6. Helu Jr – he is a far better RB than White will be. Given time to work on his blitz pick up and ball security, he could be very good. Has a great size/speed ratio
6. Dominguez is fine
7. Wujciak is fine

by drd23 on Apr 25, 2011 5:38 AM EDT up reply actions

I agree about Carimi being a RT, but I feel the most confident in him then any other OT in this draft that he will at least be a very solid RT. I feel he could start right away at RT and is the most NFL ready out of any OT’s. I think every OT in this draft has some serious questions and I don’t think any of them are ready to come in and start at LT for us. I feel all of them are projects and personally the more I watch tape on the OT’s the more I hope we don’t take one until later.

I have to agree with det32 and beef. This is one bad looking draft for Detroit.

First off, you did a great job working through all seven rounds and I love the look of your Post. One of the best looking ones I have ever seen on here.
But the content and the picks stink, especially for the Lions. Bowers is okay, but after that you pick reaches and poor scheme fits for us.

I honestly think it is just ignorance and laziness.

I mean, who cares about the Lions? They have been a running joke and I am sure a lot of these guys only see replays of our QBs getting hammered, Calvin making a great play, and the Lions losing topped off with lame jokes from the Sportscenter mouth pieces.

I’m not a Lions fan, however, I have seen a few games from last season. They have a ton of potential and I think are a dark horse playoff contender if they can work on their defense and O-Line depth.

Now, I’m sorry that I’m not an expert or a guru. However, I used about two or three sites i trust a lot with draft stuff, asked my friend who is a Lions fan, and my own impressions watching games.

And again, THIS IS NOT WHAT I NECESSARILY THINK IS BEST FOR THESE TEAMS, THEY’RE JUST WHAT I SEE HAPPENING FROM MY PERSONAL PERSPECTIVE.

I gave it an A for the Redskins

but I’m still going to bitch a little bit…
1 A.J. Green – not gonna bitch about this
2 Ryan Mallet – not a big fan but good value in the 2nd & he has a ton of potential
5A Greg Salas – even tho I like Salas a lot, after taking Green a big possession type WR would not be as much of a need. Stephen Schilling the Guard from Michigan who went one pick later might have been a better choice. Both Center & Guard are huge needs for the Redskins
5B Kenrick Ellis – if he is still around this would be a great pick
6 Bilal Powell – good pick
7A Mike Smith – good pick
7B Byron Maxwell I know that 7th rd. picks are BPA but Alex Wujciak who was again the next player picked would have been a better choice. Local kid for a position that will be a need in the near future. CB is really one of the few positions that the Redskins are OK at with Hall, Buchanon & most likely Rogers if he re-signs
7C Mario Butler – definitely not going to complain about a player one spot removed from being Mr. Irrelevant
Good Job on doing a seven rounder with very good explanations,Rec.d

A.J. Green isn’t pure possession though. He’s a guy who run every kind of route anddo pretty much everything you could ask of him. He can turn a 5 yard pass into a 20 yard play, or go and run a 20 yard route with his speed and separation abilities.

Salas meanwhile is strictly going to be a guy who you can trust to make the catch on 3rd and 10 or 3rd and 5. He’s so consistent at catching the ball to the point where defenses would have cheat up a bit. This then opens up AJ Green for a deep strike (or even Santana Moss). Salas in the slot is dangerous because few nickel corners are big enough to match up on him. He’s a dangerously boring possession receiver who opens up things for the big playmakers on the outside. This something that I feel the Redskins need incredibly badly.

I would riot if Seattle drafted Ponder over Mallett.

Ponder is a sucky pro prospect.

Aaron Curry was a bust the moment he took the field.
Draft wishlist: Jake Locker, Ryan Mallett, Marvin Austin, Gabe Carimi, Mason Foster, Stephen Schilling, Demarco Murray.
Free agency wishlist: Peyton Manning, Manny Lawson, LaRon Landry

Yup

And there’s no way Ponder is more accurate than Mallett.

by Greetings from the Lord Humongous! on Apr 25, 2011 1:30 AM EDT up reply actions

I watched a lot of Florida State and a lot of Arkansas games (7 Florida State games, 9 Arkansas games) and can safely say that Mallett’s accuracy is not good enough to succeed in the NFL. He’s too slow, too stupid, and his throw’s always seem to be 5 feet too far in front of or behind his receivers. He’s not accurate enough or smart enough to play West Coast offense.

Meanwhile, Ponder is in my opinion the second most accurate QB in the draft and plays West Coast incredibly well. Why? Because that’s what he played in at Florida State. He already knows the scheme, he fits it well, he knows how to play pro style from the get-go, and is actually accurate/intelligent.

Except that Ponder isn't ever going to be an elite QB.

The Seahawks need a QB and while Ponder may fit the system, they’re not desperate enough to reach for him at 25.

by Coach Owens on Apr 25, 2011 12:34 PM EDT up reply actions

and Mallett is going to be elite? Big arms are so overrated. The guy’s a slightly smarter Russell without the weight problem. Inaccurate, poor footwork and mechanics, character issues, not intelligent enough, and will gave to adjust to pro style. Accuracy>arm strength in the NFL.

Mallett is probably the smartest QB in the draft.

At least, football-smart. He’s the best at reading defenses, the best at understanding play calls and the best at breaking them down for coaches. Ponder, for all his so-called intelligence off the field, is really not that smart when it comes to football. He makes bad decisions all the time, doesn’t judge his arm strength-or lack thereof-correctly and because of it, constantly throws into double or even triple coverage. And no, Mallett won’t have to adjust to a pro-style system because Arkansas runs one.

I voted for a B. The reason you stated why Cameron Jordan might not pan out are the reasons I don’t like him. If that pick was Pouncey, I would be happy with the draft and give it an A.

I don’t see Gene Smith drafting someone who doesn’t fit our scheme. LDE doesn’t have as big of an impact as other positions where we have a bigger needs. I wouldn’t say LDE is even a need, but RDE is.

Good with Castonzo, and while I think it’s a touch early and would prefer Hudson, I’m a fan of Jarvis Jenkins.

Doubt McDaniel is on Indy’s roster. They like their guys squeaky clean and while he’s been a model student athlete for the last 2-3 years, throwing his girlfriend down the stairs is a big red flag.

Not a big fan of or believer in Indy going with a WR mid to late. They have 5 guys who are locks for the roster. If they go WR it’ll be early to try to replace Wayne who’s contract is up soon.

5th and 6th are good by me.

shake and I are generally on the same page, but we do differ on one point. I do like the WR pick. Shorts is actually a guy that I targeted (albiet in the 5th round) as a possibility. I am not as bullish on some of the WRs lower down the roster like Blair White. He’s a nice story, but has no business starting in the NFL. I am assuming 3 starters at WR and we have enough questions at those spots Wayne-Age, Garcon-Hands, Collie-Injury, Gonzo-Injury; that I could see another WR being brought in. Shorts is more talented than White and of the other four I don’t know that I can count on any three as long term starters. Perhaps a year too early given contract situations, but the logic is sound.

Not liking it a whole lot. 1). Would not take Ponder over Mallett, Ponder really isn’t that much more accurate than Mallett. Ponder is also old, injury prone, and has a weak arm. Kinda of sounds like Matt Hasselbeck. I would prefer Mallett, Pouncey, or Wilkerson here 2) WR in the second round is a bad choice. No, we don’t have a true #1, but a #1 doesn’t mean much when you don’t have a solid foundation. Ask Larry Fitzgerald 3) We already have a “center who can play guard” in Unger, and that didn’t really turn out well. Would rather have a guard who can play guard or a RT.

So, wouldn’t be happy if this draft board played out for the Seahawks, but I still have to give you props for making a

whether they play Unger at RG or C, they still need someone to play the spot he isn’t. Seattle has a pretty sound foundation in my opinion. They’re just really inconsistent. I think after last year, they manage to gel and become more consistent in Carroll’s second season. Hopefully they’re won’t be a QB carousel either (especially since Ponder would probably be the starter as I don’t see Whitehurst as “competition”)

So have them take an actual guard.

If they re-sign Chris Spencer, Unger will play RG. If they don’t re-sign Spencer, Unger will play C. So they would need an actual guard, not a center playing out of position like Barnes would be. (Haven’t seen anywhere that says that he can play guard decently) Barnes, by the way, also doesn’t have the athleticism to play in a zone-blocking scheme. A much more logical pick would be, say, Michigan’s Stephen Schilling.

I’ve never even attempted anything longer than a first round mock so I can’t imagine how many hours KA1Z3R spent putting this all together, but I will assume it was a massive undertaking for him. 254 players mocked (and quite well might I add) and you find two things you don’t like about it so you grade it an F? Did you actually notice that Wilson was missing in the draft or did you just read the above comment and decide to throw your two cents in?

I’m tempted to continue this comment with a saying that ends in “and the horse you rode in on” but instead I will just ask you, can I please see your 7-round mock that everyone agrees with and doesn’t skip even one single player?

I remember

when the Steelers drafted Mendenhall in the first I way really hoping that pick would have been Sweed instead. When Sweed fell all the way to us in the second I could not have been more overjoyed. Obviously Sweed didn’t pan out exactly as I had hoped, but I still remember my excitement on that day when Pittsburgh drafted 2 complete gamechangers in the first two rounds. If Pittsburgh walks away from this draft with Pouncey and Williams in the first two rounds I’m afraid the screaming you will hear will be coming from my house in Ohio.

This is the most optimistic Steelers draft I have seen, but I love it. Lets hope it comes out like this.

I rec'd this just for the effort and the format. Great Prince pick (see what I did there?). Oh, and the content's not too bad either.

Some thoughts on the Packers’ picks:

1) Brooks Reed: Ugh. Most of APC do not see him as a 1st-round prospect. I would much rather have any of the next three guys (Wilkerson, Solder, Baldwin).

2) Clint Boling: Here’s where it gets better. an OG is a very nice pick.

3) Chimdi Chekwa: A developmental CB/ ST contributor is great.

4a) Shane Vereen: I really like this pick. This is as early as I want to see a RB drafted, and it sounds like he could play a much-needed role. Brandon Jackson may be looking elsewhere for more money/PT, so a 3rd down block who can catch passes and block is the real RB need we have.

4b) Owen Marecic: No thank you. We already have a ton of FBs. So much so that one of the three will likely not be back. John Kuhn is a FA but most fans believe he will be back. Quinn Johnson is a cannonball of a runblocker. Korey Hall is a great ST contributor. No thanks to Marecic.

5) Jeremy Kerley: A young WR is a nice pick.

6) Corey Lindsey: Never heard of him, although I wouldn’t be opposed to another DB.

7a) Jason Kelce: I’m not going to complain about 7th rounders too much, but the Packers already have a developing C on the roster. I’m not certain how the coaching staff feel about his progress, but he’s still with the team so I don’t see them starting over.

7b) Pat Devlin: Many fans feel Matt Flynn will be traded at some point, so this is a decent pick. Maybe they can turn him into the next Matt Flynn?

No OT scares me though.

If it comes down to getting an OT or an OG, I see OT being the choice. Many see T.J. Lang as the successor at LG, while there is no apparent successor for Chad Clifton whose knees could go at any time.

Kelce can play really any position on the line though. He’s quick and athletic enough to play tackle, but if they need him at guard or center he can bulk up and play the spots.

Marecic was best available, might move him to LB and develop him there. You can kinda fiddle around and do a lot with Marecic. Weapon at fullback, could be a very solid ILB in a 3-4, or could even play running back and be a beast of a short-yardage guy.

Bengals draft

1. Say “No” to Gabbert. Overvalued by 30 to 40 picks in my opinion. Give us Patrick Peterson here, either to replace Joseph or play safety for the moment.
2. I like Baldwin but not better than Torrey Smith and we don’t need either one of them nearly so much as, say, Danny Watkins, Ben Ijalana, or Marcus Cannon here.
3. Much as I love Taiwan Jones, #66 is way too high for us to be drafting a back. Colin Kaepernick is a good value here.
4. Will Rackley is great but since we’ve switched the second-round pick to OG, let’s go with Edmond Gates.
5. Greg Romeus by a mile over Pierre Allen here.
6. Andrew Jackson OG here to solidify the O-line situation.
7. Alex Wukciak over Colby Whitlock and, holy hell, Eugene Clifford is an awesome value as a late seventh.

Excellent work overall. Visually pleasing.

by IgnatiusJReilly on Apr 25, 2011 6:13 AM EDT reply actions

once again, not what I feel is best for the teams, just what I see happening. However, I actually stand by my selections (for the most part) here. Gabbert is an instant starter who could do well early on with Cincy probably being a run-heavy team. Then once Shipley and Baldwin develop completely, Gabbert will be ready to really start showing what he can do throwing the ball around.

Taiwan Jones is simply because there’s no one on Cincy’s roster that the opposing team has to really watch out for in terms of being a gamebreaker. Taiwan Jones is instant energy, instant offense, and immediately the defense has to account for him wherever the hell he is. Be it playing slot receiver, running back, or even in the return game.

Cincy’s biggest weakness, lack of offensive weapons, lack of a big time playmaker, and lack of someone to get them the damn ball consistently. Teams always seem to find suitable O-Linemen, but finding guys like Gabbert, Baldwin, and Jones is hard and few teams do.

by KA1Z3R on Apr 25, 2011 2:06 PM EDT up reply actions

Honestly, B. Scott and Jerome Simpson

are both gamebreakers on the current roster and, if you throw in the ultra-fast Edmund Gates, as I did in my reworking of your draft for us, that’s plenty of speed. Add to that a future all-pro in Jermaine Gresham and a fearless, deceptively quick slot in Jordan Shipley and we’re good to go. Well, not good to go until we settle in a starter quality LG like Watkins or Ijalana- hence one of them over Baldwin. Like I said, I’ve been a proponent of Taiwan Jones since the beginning of his senior season at EWU, but the third round is where we need to grab that bargain QB- as opposed to the overhyped, overrated Gabbert. Heck, I’d take Peterson over Gabbert even if it meant starting Jordan Palmer next year. Gabbert is just not all that. Kaepernick has as much or more potential than Gabbert even if he will require a bit more development at the start.

by IgnatiusJReilly on Apr 25, 2011 3:58 PM EDT up reply actions

FOR EVERYONE TO READ BEFORE COMMENTING

There’s winners and losers on draft day. There’s always one or two teams who’s drafts make you go “what the hell were they thinking?” And I had to account for that factor as well. Trust me, there’s some of these I hated mocking because I think they’re gonna be bad, but that’s how the draft actually is.

I looked back on draft approaches, draft history, team weaknesses and strengths, asked fans of a few teams, looked over several 7 rounders, and went off impressions from having watched a ton of college football and more than my fair share of pro games.

I picked based on how I think things will go down on draft day. teams going best available, some strictly needs, some stockpiling at positions, some thinking they’re fine at positions that are in question. That’s how the draft is. Sorry if I didn’t do a 7 rounder that fit nice and neatly with fans want, what i think is best, or what teams actually need the most. The draft never goes that way, and a lot of fans get disappointed.

That’s why i love the draft so much. The heartbreak, the triumph, the sleepers, the reaches, the great picks, the very questionable picks, and I accounted for all of these. Don’t go ripping me a new one if you don’t understand the concept of a realistic mock draft.

Well don't go explaining like you're putting out a realistic mock draft

when you have a team, at least the team I root for, having a completely illogical mock draft. I’ll give you the Tyron Smith pick, tho I hate it, but the rest is borderline ridiculous and in no way gives off the impression that you’d done what you’ve said you’ve done in what you just posted here.

1st) Cam Jordan- Love the pick
2nd) Ras-I Dowling- Again, Love the pick
3rd) Robert Sands- Excellent selection

This is where the love fest ends (sort of..lol)

4th) Vincent Brown- I think this pick is ok but I personally like Greg Salas and Niles Paul a little more

4th) Greg McElroy- I think he has a better chance at being pretty good than people are willing to give him but I might like Stanzi better in that spot.

5th) Greg Romeous- Steal of the draft if it actually happens

6th) Chykie Brown- Another steal

I like it for the most part other than the things I mentioned. Also not drafting any LB help worries me with their current situation. Overall B.

4) No to Vincent Brown preferably LB Ross Homan
4) McElroy I can live with good to train up- prefer Tyrod Taylor personally
5) Romeus okay but don’t need two DE’s I’d take Greg Salas at 4 and Tyrod here
