Northfan's 2 Round Mock- Final w/Trades
1. Carolina Panthers: Cam Newton, QB, Auburn.
Starting to become a consensus pick. Could still be Marcel Dareus, but this is looking more and more like a lock for number 1.
2. Denver Broncos: Marcel Dareus, DT, Alabama.
Arguably the best player in the draft. The Broncos need major help on the defensive side of the ball. Von Miller is another possible selection.
3. Buffalo Bills: Von Miller, OLB, Texas A&M.
Unless Cam Newton drops to them here, I don't see them taking a QB in the first. Patrick Peterson is also a possibility.
*TRADE*
(Dallas Cowboys get #4 overall pick)
(Cincinnati gets #9, #40 and #110)
4. Dallas Cowboys: Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU.
Jerry Jones moves up to get the best CB in the draft.
5. Arizona Cardinals: Blaine Gabbert, QB, Mizzou.
If Dallas hadn't leapfrogged them to get Peterson, he'd most likely be the pick here. AJ Green is also a possibility, but the Cards have no one on their roster worthy of the title Starting NFL QB.
6. Cleveland Browns: AJ Green, WR, Georgia. The best offensive talent in the draft. Colt McCoy is salivating with the thought of having Green to throw to in the next season of football.
7. San Fransisco: Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska.
Unless one of the top 2 QBs drop, I think Amukamara should be a lock here.
8. Tennessee Titans: Julio Jones, WR, Alabama.
Could be Fairley, but the Titans need a playmaking receiver, something Kenny Britt has been unable to do so far.
9. Cincinnati Bengals: Robert Quinn, DE, UNC.
2 months ago, Quinn was a consensus top 5 pick. Cincinnati trades back and is still able to grab him.
10. Washington Redskins: Jake Locker, QB, Washington.
All of Washington's top players are taken, and there's nobody willing to trade up with them. Locker will start day 1.
11. Houston Texans: Cameron Jordan, DE, Cal.
They need a pass-rushing end to help that defense. The back-end isn't terrible, they're just not getting enough help from the front 7.
*TRADE*
(Philadelphia gets #12)
(Minnesota gets #23, #54 and #108)
12. Philadelphia Eagles: Jimmy Smith, CB, Colorado.
Minnesota wants to move back, and Philly will probably need to move up to get Smith.
13. Detroit Lions: Da'Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson.
In every mock that has the Lions taking Castonzo or Tyron Smith with this pick, there's always a bunch of Lions fans who say they don't need an OT. So I gave them Bowers.
14. St. Louis Rams: Aldon Smith, DE, Mizzou.
Probably the highest rated player still on their board at this point.
*TRADE*
(Minnesota gets #15)
(Miami gets #43, #54 and #106)
15. Minnesota Vikings: Anthony Castonzo, OT, Boston College.
A lot of people see Tyron Smith as the best OT in the draft. However, you don't trade up to grab a project OT(who might not be good enough to play LT) at #15 overall. Castonzo is the safest OT pick in the draft, and the Vikings get to keep their other first round pick.
16. Jacksonville Jaguars: JJ Watt, DE, Wisconsin.
The Jags need help pressuring the QB. They also need help at QB, but they have nobody to trade back with. Watt is probably the BPA on their board at this point.
*TRADE*
(New Orleans gets #17)
(New England gets #24, #88 and New Orleans 2012 2nd round pick)
17. New Orleans Saints: Ryan Kerrigan, DE, Purdue.
As a Saints fan, I'd rather us be able to sit back and let Kerrigan drop to us. But, I'm pretty sure we'll have to jump past Tampa to get him, and New England would love to move back, get more picks this year and next year. Kerrigan fills an immediate need for the 2012(or 2013...whichever season happens first) Super Bowl Champions.
18. San Diego Chargers: Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn.
Too good to pass up here.
19. New York Giants: Tyron Smith, OT, USC.
Regarded as the OT with the most upside in this year's draft, the Giants are happy to let him fall to them.
*TRADE*
(Tennessee gets #20)
(Tampa Bay gets #39, #77 and #108)
20. Tennessee Titans: Ryan Mallett, QB, Arkansas.
The best pure passer in this year's draft. Even though he's a fairly immobile QB, having Chris Johnson in his backfield should take away a lot of the pressure on him. And, with Julio Jones taken at 8, he has a playmaking receiver to grow with.
21. Kansas City Chiefs: Phil Taylor, DT, Baylor.
A huge body to plug into the middle of their D-line.
22. Indianapolis Colts: Nate Solder, OT, Colorado.
Could be Gabe Carimi. They need to keep the pressure away from Peyton Manning.
23. Minnesota Vikings: Christian Ponder, QB, FSU.
They got their offensive tackle at 15, now they get their QB. Played in a pro-style offense at FSU. The Vikings have the offensive pieces for this to work.
24. New England Patriots: Mike Pouncey, OG/C, Florida.
Bill Belichek loves his Florida players, and both Stephen Neal and Logan Mankins could be gone by the time the season starts.
25. Seattle Seahawks: Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama.
This could be the shock of the first round. Leon Washington and Marshawn Lynch have done nothing to prove they can be starting running backs in the NFL. Mark Ingram could be the guy to jumpstart that offense.
*TRADE*
(Buffalo Bills get #26)
(Baltimore Ravens get #34 and #68)
26. Buffalo Bills: Andy Dalton, QB, TCU.
Worried about someone trading ahead of 34 to get Dalton, the Bills need to move back into the first to get him.
27. Atlanta Falcons: Justin Houston, DE/OLB, Georgia.
Could be Kyle Rudolph, but Houston is too good to pass up here.
28. New England Patriots: Cameron Heyward, DE, Ohio St.
Having addressed the interior of their offensive line, the Patriots look to the defense with this pick.
29. Chicago Bears: Gabe Carimi, OT, Wisconsin.
Jay Cutler is a terrible QB. I've thought so since he was drafted by the Broncos in 2006. But, Carimi will help him stay on his feet, and maybe throw a few less INTs this year.
30. New York Jets: Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA.
Maybe Rex won't have to call as many blitzes next year.
31. Pittsburgh Steelers: Derek Sherrod, OT, Mississippi St.
The former Bulldog will take over for Flozell Adams, who should retire this year.
32. Green Bay Packers: Danny Watkins, OG, Baylor.
More of a luxury pick than anything. Miami could move up for Kaepernick here, but he could probably slide to them in the second.
33. New England Patriots: Jon Baldwin, WR Pitt
Great hands, great size, once he gets going is really fast. Could help on the outside
34. Baltimore Ravens: Brooks Reed, DE/OLB, Arizona.
Very good pass rusher.
35. Cincinnati Bengals: Martez Wilson, LB, Illinois
Dhani Jones' replacement.
36. Denver Broncos: Mason Foster, OLB, Washington.
A good edge-rusher, should make the switch back to the 4-3 easier.
37. Cleveland Browns: Corey Liuget, DT, Illinois.
Huge steal.
38. Arizona Cardinals: Brandon Harris, CB, Miami.
One of the top players still available. Him and Rodgers-Cromartie should be a great tandem.
39. Tampa Bay Buccanneers: Bruce Carter, OLB, North Carolina.
They need to upgrade their pass rush.
40. Cincinnati Bengals: Colin Kaepernick, QB, Nevada.
They missed out on the top QB's, but Kaepernick could still be good.
41. Washington Redskins: Ben Ijalana, OG/OT, Villanova
42. Houston Texans: Rahim Moore, S, UCLA
Best DB still on the board.
43. Miami Dolphins: Mikel Leshoure, RB, Illinois.
They missed out on all the QBs and Ingram, but Leshoure is a nice pickup.
44. Detroit Lions: Ras-I Dowling, CB, Virginia
45. San Fransisco 49ers: Marvin Austin, DE, UNC.
A huge body to play DE in their 3-4.
46. Denver Broncos: Ryan Williams, RB, Virginia Tech
47. St. Louis Rams: Leonard Hankerson, WR, Miami
48. Oakland Raiders: Marcus Cannon, OT, TCU
49. Jacksonville Jaguars: Muhammed WIlkerson, DT, Temple
50. San Diego Chargers: Christian Ballard, DE, Iowa
51. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Curtis Brown, CB, Texas
52. New York Giants: Stefen Wisniewski, C, Penn St.
53. Indianapolis Colts: Stephen Paea, DT, Oregon St.
54. Miami Dolphins: Jurrell Casey, DT, USC
55. Kansas City Chiefs: Titus Young, WR, Boise St.
56. New Orleans Saints: Bruce Carter, OLB, UNC
57. Seattle Seahawks: Randall Cobb, WR, Kentucky
58. Baltimore Ravens: Quan Sturdivant, LB, UNC
59. Atlanta Falcons: Torrey Smith, WR, Maryland
60. New England Patriots: Davon House, CB, New Mexico St.
61. San Diego Chargers: Jabaal Sheard, OLB, Pittsburgh
62. Chicago Bears: Rodney Hudson, C, FSU
63. Pittsburgh Steelers: Quinton Carter, FS, Oklahoma
64. Green Bay Packers: Sam Acho, DE, Texas

If both picks pan out
They could be dangerous again next year
Dream Saints 2011 Draft:
1) Ryan Kerrigan
2) Mason Foster
3a) Drake Nevis
3b) Daniel Thomas
7a) Will Hill
7b) Alex Wujciak
I'd be all for the bucs trading back if the board played out this way
but I don’t think that’s enough value for #20. I wouldn’t make that trade even with the top DEs off the board. I’d take Houston or maybe even Pouncey over that trade.
agreed it's not a good trade.
Buc’s completely dropping out of the first round is a huge stretch. They could grab Pouncey or Camari at 20 given the current board. That or the Titans are going to have to offer more.
Forgot to give them #108 as well
Dream Saints 2011 Draft:

That's better, but probably still a bit low
In any case, I’m not opposed to the bucs trading out of this spot if the draft went down like this. Just need to make sure its a worthwhile deal.
It ends up being about 40-50 points low
But I can’t see the Titans giving up 4 picks to move into the first

im sure it has to do with this
Jay Cutler is a terrible QB. I’ve thought so since he was drafted by the Broncos in 2006. But, Carimi will help him stay on his feet, and maybe throw a few less INTs this year.
its ok to not like a player but to say he is TERRIBLE i know he has his mechanics, and people get mad when he doesnt giggle but as far as talent he is as talented as any qb in the league
I obviously dont agree but wont even bother getting into much more into the Cutler thing.
Carimi and Hudson would be two very two good picks i feel like carimi wont get past the cheifs though but if he falls to us id be a happy man!

Ok. I thought it was about the pick.
His mechanics are off, he’s not a very good leader, and he makes a lot of poor decisions with the football IMHO. Maybe a proper O-Line, something he really hasn’t had since coming into the NFL, will help some of that though.

Cutler needs to play in the right system
He was pretty impressive under Shanahan and has been pretty lousy under Martz. He needs a system that values his mobility and reduces the effects of his accuracy issues.

He wasn't extraordinary with Shanahan either.
Denver’s talent and scheme did a lot to mask his deficiencies.

If you are going to do trades where teams give up their first round pick to move down into the 2nd, can you at least do a two round mock? Baltimore trading with Buffalo, yet I don’t get to see who the pick is for the Ravens.
Real G's move in silence like lasagna
I was going to and then got kinda lazy.
Pretty sure I had them taking Liuget tho

Ingram to the Seahawks is one of my least favorite picks
The problem with the run game is the blockers up front, not the guys carrying the ball. Lynch/Forsett/Washington would be a great combo if we could have 5 starters on the OL, instead of 1 starter and a constantly-changing mixture of waiver-wire specials.

But Dalton in the 1st would be much, much worse
In this position, I think the Seahawks would trade back with Buffalo.

Sando made a fair point that we drafted Shaun Alexander in the first
with a still very productive Ricky Watters on the roster in his final year of contract. Not that I’m a fan of drafting Ingram.

Right, we had a productive run game when we drafted a guy to take over for Watters
Right now, our run game isn’t productive and Pete’s cited problems blocking up front. The way to fix the blocking is to bring in more blockers, not to bring in another guy that will face defenders behind the LOS on every play.
The 1st rd RBs off the board the last few years have been pretty mediocre (until you get to AP) and I’d rather not spend such a high pick on more mediocrity.

But
You can also say the Seahawks are probably the odds-on favorite to sign Robert Gallery. And with Max Unger likely replacing Chris Spencer, and Tom Cable coaching up the unit, one could reasonably make the assertion that an RB could thrive.

Lynch and Washington
Had chances before Seattle, and neither of them did well enough to secure a starting job(clearly), or even well enough to hold down a roster spot. Plus, if you liked Lynch’s run against the Saints, imagine that kind of run more than once a year. Ya.

How about Beanie Wells or Knowshon Moreno? Were they worth the picks?
CJ Spiller or Ryan Mathews or Jahvid Best? Are they better than Blount or Hillis?
Did even half of the 2008 1st round RB draft class justify their 1st round status?
Drafting 1st round RBs is a chump’s game when you don’t have competent run blocking.

Jaguars
I would give that mock a D. Why would we draft depth in the second round when we are already set at DT? Also, Watt doesn’t fit our system very well and would be a LDE. Both picks don’t make sense. Could you please provide more explanation?
To be honest
The Jags picks were the hardest for me. I’ve seen Watt mocked to them a lot, and Wilkerson was BPA, and there were no QB’s left

Jaguars
Watt – A
Wilkerson – B+
I’m fine as long as it was BAP, Watt is a good pick, and Watt + Wilkerson would(I think) push the Jaguars to the 3-4.
DE: Alualu, Wilkerson, Lane
NT: Knighton
DE: Watt, Wilkerson, Lane
OLB: Kampman/FA/Rookie, Lane
ILB: Rookie/FA, Allen
ILB: Smith
OLB: Somebody, Hart
We are missing 2/3 of our linebackers already, so the change may be good.
"Don't go away Mad, Just go away."
Why would we switch to the 34 if we just signed Kampman a year ago? We don’t have the LB core for it and Kampman was not as good in the 34 in Green Bay. I doubt it happens.

Love the trade for the Bengals
which means there’s no way in hell Mike Brown could pull it off. Still, I might go Fairley over Quinn at #9 just because we need DT more than DE. I like Kaepernick at #4o but we need a guard or G/T so much worse at #35 than any kind of LB, I’d go Ijalana or Marcus Cannon. Nice.
by IgnatiusJReilly on Apr 26, 2011 4:56 PM EDT reply actions
I did consider Fairley, but Quinn at 9 might be too good to pass up. I actually figured the Bengals O-line would be fine, considering there running game the past couple years

That running game
which was pretty good in 2009 was horrible last year. Benson got 1000, barely, but at under 3 yards a pop. Could have been the incompetent passing game but we had a definite lack of push up front- particularly at LG. Far as replacing Dhani, Rey Maualuga is slated for that role if Jones goes this year, with either Brandon Johnson or Rodderick Muckelroy taking over at Sam. We might grab an OLB later but, at #35, OG is the way to go. Still, with Mike Brown at the helm, one never knows, do one?
by IgnatiusJReilly on Apr 26, 2011 6:24 PM EDT up reply actions
Thanks for the insight
I read in a couple places that a replacement for Dhani was needed. I assumed Maualuga was going to be OLB. I didn’t realize Benson’s ypc was so low last year. Although, I do believe that had a lot to do with the passing game. Teams could pretty much consistently stack the box on them. Makes life hard for a running back.
Dream Saints 2011 Draft:
1) Ryan Kerrigan
2) Mason Foster
3a) Drake Nevis

7a) Will Hill
7b) Alex Wujciak
We can't pencil in Maualuga as the MLB yet because he doesn't play very smart, but he's still slated to play Mike and that makes the second round way too high for a LB.
Ignatius is right, a G/T tweener should be the pick there. I wouldn’t mind picking up someone who’s smart, at least somewhat physically capable and NFL-ready if someone like that is there in the late rounds, but there are huge needs other than that.
Overall you did pretty good for the Bengals. I would love if they made that trade.
"I bet that sex Bengals fan is really pissed now." -DT3428
This is one where I'm going to say that Quinn over Fairley is fine because it's your draft.
If you believe that Quinn is clearly the better player, then it’s fine because DE is also a need. I personally would have gone Fairley because I think he’s the better player but that’s a matter of opinion.
"I bet that sex Bengals fan is really pissed now." -DT3428
Patriot's Draft
I’d rather take Carimi at 28 and if Heyward doesn’t fall to 33 take Wilkerson at 33. Also I’d prefer Sheard over House at 60. I was wondering any other Patriot fans think about this way

Even tho Jake Locker is the popular pick for the Redskins
I don’t think it is a very good fit. Mike Shanahan has drafted two QBs, Brian Griese & Jay Cutler (Jake Plummer was a FA). The one thing both of those QBs & Matt Schaub have in common is intelligence. I think that both Mike & Kyle Shanahan like smart QBs who can understand & execute a complex offensive scheme. Jake Locker is a big, mobile, strong armed & very talented QB who makes lousy decisions & struggles in the pocket, I don’t think he goes in the 1st rd. or to the Redskins in any round. Not real big on Ijalana for a ZBS either
Shanahan's gameplan often requires mobile QBs to rollout and bootleg.

Which Shanahan ??
Because Kyle is the OC in Washington. McNabb fits what you are saying & he was benched & then de-activated for the final three games in favor of Rex Grossman. If Mike or Kyle are looking for a QB who is mobile, then Christian Ponder would be a better choice.
That's because Donovan McNabb is an over the hill veteran who wasn't all that accurate to begin with.
And I hope you aren’t honestly saying Christian Ponder is more mobile than Locker. More accurate, perhaps.

Cutler makes great decisions? How many end zone INTs does he throw per game?
The guy’s got all sorts of accuracy issues and makes all sorts of boneheaded decisions. He had success in Shanahan’s system but was horrible as a pocket passer in Martz’s. Locker’s like a rawer Cutler with better intangibles.

Yeah, he looked really raw in the Senior Bowl
We will find out tomorrow, I doubt that Jake Locker is a 1st rd. selection
I'm not entirely confident that Locker will turn into a franchise QB
but I’d be relatively surprised if he made it out of the 1st. At worst, some team is going to trade up from the 2nd to get him.

No way the Eagles give up that much for Smith
His talent isn’t even on par for a #12 pick, not to mention his charecter concerns. Also, no way Fairly falls to 18.

I haven’t read a single scouting report on Smith saying he’s not a top 10-15 talent. He doesn’t get past Detroit if they don’t make the trade, and Brandon Harris is certainly not value at 23.

I'm all for Smith
But I think that jump costs too much, and we’re equally as needy, if not more, along the line since there are other options before we get to football (strong FA class, Jenkins in the supplemental). If Detroit wants to try and deal with him at 13, by all means. I haven’t read a single mock, professional or otherwise, that has him going to the Lions. Reid is way too stingy for this and character concerns definitely cause a lot talented players to drop. Reid did trade up last year, but Graham was a high character guy who is becoming a leader in the locker room which added to his talent, not detracted from it. After Sean Andrews and TO, I think Reid takes character into account and wouldn’t risk so much on the guy.

I just don't see the Bills making that trade.
With Kaepernick (and Dalton) still on the board, they aren’t going to give up their third rounder when they probably don’t need to. They just have too many needs to give up picks like that.
I'm not sold on Kaepernick
His throwing motion is way off. And that’s coming from an ex-QB. Dalton fits what Chan Gailey likes in a QB, and there’s no way he makes it past 33 if he’s the best QB available at that point. They’d have to give up that much to get him, or miss out on a QB altogether. I know they like Fitzpatrick(especially if he can ensure them getting Andrew Luck next year), but I think they have to upgrade that position now. You can’t hope for anything a year in advance. Look at Locker this year- a consensus #1 overall going into last year, he might not even be a top 10 pick this year.

their is absolutely no way the jags wasted their 2nd pick on a DT LOL..are u kidding, probably our least needed position next to running back.
If you read above

Ravens
The value of the trade plays in our favor so because of that I could see Ozzie possibly making that move if he doesn’t really like anyone on the board. I love the first pick in Brooks Reed and he should really help improve the pass rush, but not a fan of the 2nd pick. I really think unless we get a tremendous value player there that we go WR with our 2nd pick. I feel it would be Torrey Smith or Greg Little right there.
Sturdivant
I like your receiving corps. Boldin, Stallworth and Houshmanzadeh are all very good receivers, so I went with more of a luxury pick with a guy who will learn from Ray Lewis before replacing him

Stallworth and Housh will more than likely not be returning. They both only had one year deals and were extremely unimpressive while here. Ozzie has came out and said unless the board takes an unusual twist that we will be getting at least one WR and the 2nd is where a lot of them will be going. They also came out and said they are devoted to finding Flacco a young WR to grow with so that leads me to believe we will grab one of these guys in the 2nd.
Ok
Thanks for the insight
