Green Bay Packers go with OT Derek Sherrod to close first round

The Super Bowl champion Packers have their bookend offensive tackles.

Last year, the Packers took Bryan Bulaga and plugged him into the right tackle spot and he excelled. Now the Packers can eventually replace Chad Clifton with Mississippi State offensive tackle Derek Sherrod. He was their pick 32nd overall to close the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft.

Sherrod may start his career at guard, but he projects as a left tackle. Sherrod started since his freshman season at Mississippi State. He played his first year at right tackle before moving to the left side where he made his name as an athletic tackle who can handle speed rushers.

Where he needs to get better is in the power aspects of the game. He doesn't drive block especially well and can be moved around by power rushers. It would also be nice to see Sherrod play with more of a mean streak and finish off more blocks.

Why not Bulaga to LT?

I thought Bulaga was only playing RT b/c it was the best man on the field thing. If you are looking for a mean streak, look no futher than Bulaga.

I'm sure they'll let the guys compete.

Whoever shows more as a LT will likely get the job. It’s kind of cool that both Ts have the versatility to play LT and RT.

Solid Pick

A team who didn’t need to draft a starter. Many options were there. Good pick to protect Aaron in the future. The Lions D line is going to be crazy! The Saints got a lot better as well. Looking forward to the rest of the draft. Ted does it as good as any one, like him or not.
I’m excited. Hoping to hear we’ve got some guys showing up to work tomorrow. Just leave Ted and Mike alone to focus on the draft.

Chad Clifton is old

Solid pick, one I’m not disappointed in, but man… Bowers must really be messed up

"That's not a weird stat. Rickie is a run-scorer," Yost said. "It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter," Yost told reporters. "See, you guys have no concept. He's a run-scorer. So there's nothing weird about it. That's what he does."

Possibly.

He didn’t really seem like a good fit for us though. Too small for DE and too big for OLB.

Relunctantly yes.

It helps that I dislike the other teams in the division, so it shouldn’t be too difficult. Play Phillip Dillard and you’ll win me over for sure.

How about we draft David next year instead? Or Crick.

I want Crick for our line so bad.

And David would be a stud opposite Matthews. A tad small, but dude is all over the field.

Do you need any S help? Perhaps a RB? OL?
