Jonathan Martin 2012 NFL Draft Prospect Notes
Our work is never finished here at Mocking the Draft as we are already looking to 2012. The summer will feature a lot of prospect evaluations that we will build upon during the season. Continue reading to see the complete notes on each prospect. Keep an eye out for out 2012 position rankings as well as the new Prospect Power Poll both debuting sometime soon.
Jonathan Martin
6'6, 305 pounds | Offensive Tackle | Stanford
First Word: Martin is an above average offensive tackle prospect. He has good balance and a natural bend which allows him to both pass protect and run block. His hand usage helps him get a push off the line as well as control the direction of the rusher. Martin keeps his pad level low maintaining leverage and enhancing his ability to be an effective offensive lineman. I did see some issues with Martin's ability to change direction which makes him susceptible to inside counter moves. He also doesn't have elite foot quickness which will impact his ability to protect the edge against speed rushers.
Bold Statement: Martin has the capability to be a top 10 pick and the first offensive tackle off the board.
Games Viewed: Washington '10, Cal'10, Oregon St. '10

Notes:
- Martin is a fluid athlete with a nice natural bend
- He uses his hands well by extending them into the defender
- There is a nastiness to Martin's game as he works to the whistle and finishes off blocks
- Martin fires off the ball and has the quickness to reach both the sideline and 2nd level
- He takes short and balanced steps in both his kick slide and while engaged
- His use of angles allow him to protect the edge against speed rushers
- Martin has a good powerful lower half that allows him to generate a good push off the ball
- His hustle shows as he works hard down the field often helping spring long runs
- Martin's weight distribution and strong base help him anchor upon contact
- He has good awareness and knows when to peel off his original target
- I have some concerns with his ability to effectively change direction as he was beaten inside on several plays
- He has a tendency to get duck arms which is a wasted motion and allows rushers to get into his body
- Martin has quick feet but they are far from elite. This is something I will keep an eye on throughout the season
- At times, Martin hesitated out of his stance which impacted his ability to protect the edge

Not a single mention that Martin is entering his redshirt junior season?
That’s some bush league stuff right there.
Granted he’s draft-eligible, could have his undergraduate education completed after this season, and for that reason plus the potential move of Andrew Luck, could be best served declaring for the 2012 NFL Draft.
But it has to at the very least be noted that he’s a redshirt junior and will have to declare for the 2012 NFL Draft.
Statistics do not tell the whole story, not even close, but the ignorant who have no clue rely solely on them.
Brad Wells is: (A) ignorant (B) a moron (C) a slimeball (D) a POS (E) All of the above?
