2011 NFL Draft 2nd Round Immediate Impact Players

The 2011 NFL Draft is over and many of us are hoping the selected players will be able to provide an immediate impact.  With free agency on hold, the only hope we have for an immediate improvement are the rookies.  Free agency will take place but without knowing the specifics we have no choice but to rely on the draft selections.  Below is my list of the top 5 2nd  round players I expect to have an immediate impact.

1. Andy Dalton- QB- Cincinnati Bengals

- I am among those that feel Carson Palmer will never play for the Bengals again which makes Dalton very valuable.  There is not another legitimate starting quarterback on the Bengals roster which will likely thrust Dalton into the starting roll.  As a 2nd round quarterback, being asked to start early could be both a good and bad situation.

2. Mikel Leshoure- RB- Detroit Lions

- Jahvid Best is a good looking young running back but I have some questions.  He struggled with injuries and his yards per carry were terrible.  Leshoure is a nice complement to Best and will be able to pick up yardage in tight running situations.  I would not be surprised if Leshoure is getting the majority of the carries by year end.

Star-divide

3. Brooks Reed- OLB/DE- Houston Texans

- Houston is making the move to Wade Phillip's defense and they lack a true outside edge rusher.  Reed has the quickness and ability to create pressure from the outside linebacker position.  He will be afforded plenty of opportunities and with teams having to worry about Mario Williams he could wind up with double digit sacks.

4. Titus Young- WR/KR- Detroit Lions

- Calvin Johnson is constantly double teamed which is hard to believed given his production.  Young has the speed and big play ability to demand attention and take some focus away from Johnson.  He will also be a factor in the return game as he has had success as a punt and kick returner.

5. Brandon Harris- CB- Houston Texans

- Most would have a hard time finding a worse secondary than the Houston Texans.  The addition of Harris gives them more talent, depth, and an immediate starter.  While he is not an elite athlete, he possesses really good coverage skills and technique.  He avoids wasted motions and has the short area burst to break on the football.  His impact might not be seen in turnovers but with less yards surrendered.

Texans crushed the 2nd round

there were arguments about who we should grab in the 2nd: a playmaking CB in Harris or a pass rushing LB in Reed, and we found a way to snag both of them. Beautiful.

Yea, I said in another post that the Texans draft was the best one of all 32 teams in my opinion. You guys got 3 players who most people saw as first round picks for the last new months, and each of them fit major needs. Gotta get Peyton to the ground, ya know.

"No disrespect to Patrick Peterson and Prince Amukamara, but I just think I have better cover skills. They get tested a lot, and that’s for a reason. The other team sees something in their game that they want to attack, and me playing in the same league as Prince, we played the same teams and they didn’t attack me the same. So why does that happen?" - CB Jimmy Smith

Torrey Smith

If there was one team that needed a deep threat WR, it was Baltimore. Ozzie has already said that Torrey was brought here to be a starter, which could very well mean playing #2 next to Boldin.

The guy is going to put up some solid numbers this year and be a main reason why we are holding the Lombardi in Indy come February.

Look at Ducasse last year

its hard to expect a small school guy to come in and make an impact year one. I like Iljana, I hoped my team would take him over Franklin, but it may be unrealistic to say he’ll have a major impact.

If you reply to a comment/post/fanshot of mine, I will more likely then not respond to it, unless you come off like a d-bag.

I can dig this list

I’m on the fence on Dalton though, he’ll be starting at this rate but will it be a big impact? I have trouble saying that. I would’ve replaced him with Ryan Williams, looks like he’ll be getting a lot of carriers early, especially with Wells hurt everyday

No love for Kyle Rudolph?

He will be an absolute beast in the red zone.

WHY IS MARVIN AUSTIN NOT ON THIS LIST

LOOOOOOUUUUUDDDDD NOOOISESSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!

I was gonna laugh at the Andy Dalton thing cuz they hype that got him drafted had me laughing so hard I was hacking up dry heaves, but I guess the ‘impact’ could go either good or bad.

I’d take Leshoure off the list, not cuz I don’t think he’s good or a good fit (tho I do think the Lions OL will have trouble paving the way for him…run blocking is not ranked 4th best is it?)

Greg Little should probably go on there. I think Colt McCoy kind of stinks, but he is pretty accurate and can run well. I think Little fits the Browns cuz his potential to be an elite downfield blocker might go unnoticed, that is until he’s skull-****ing Jimmy Smith while Peyton Hillis rumbles for 40 yards

Texans crushed this draft

they got 4 impact starters
Watt Reed Harris Roc
amazing draft by them

Bruce Carter+Sean Lee=BRUCE LEE!!!!

It might be 5 impact starters

Depending on how Shiloh Keo looks in preseason & if we don’t find another SS. Kubiak, Phillips, & Rick Smith all love this guy’s instincts. If he can drop some of that extra fat (20% body fat at combine) & put on some muscle, hopefully he can be a bit faster than the 4.7 he ran at the combine & the 4.6 at his pro day

in all seriousness

Jaiqwan Jarret should be on this list. He is the starting SS for the Philadelphia Eagles. He’ll be plenty busy.

Honorable Mention for Randall Cobb.

He will likely be the guy to step in and replace James Jones. The OPackers need at least 4 good receivers, and he’ll likely be one of them. He is also a KR/PR, which is huge for 2 reasons: 1) We’ve been pitiful in that regard for a while and 2) Tramon Williams will no longer be placed in harms way on STs.

Daniel Thomas

For better or for worse, with Ricky and Ronnie both free agents, it’s very likely that Thomas is the feature back on a Dolphins offense that has been very run-heavy under Tony Sparano. Look for at least 700-800 yards out oaf him.

i agree w/ this... i was going to throw him on the list

I’m being a homer, but I think he’ll catch quite a few passes in space this year and find the end zone regularly.
