Individual Awards Predictions

I'm back with another hypothetical to prevent lockout suicide. This one will be predicting the variety of individual awards given at the end of each season. If I forget an award or 2 I'll update my predictions because these are the ones I remember off the top of my head.

Star-divide

MVP: Phillip Rivers: I think VJax comes back for another year and helps the biggest douche in NFL history post yet another awesome fantasy football career only to choke in the playoffs. I think he'll get close to 5000 yards if we get a full TC. He should get the wins with the ST improvements they made via the draft.

Comeback player of the year: Sidney Rice: I fully expect him to get more than 280 yards, if he stays healthy. I think he'll win it even if he does stay in Minny.

DPOTY: DeMarcus Ware: The guy always puts up monster stats and yet never has won this award. If the Cowboys can make a push for the playoffs and he gets 15+ sacks, I think he'll get it. Rob Ryan as his new DC doesn't hurt.

OROTY: Cam Newton: The only way he doesn't start is if the lockout goes so long he doesn't get a lot of practce time. If he does get the job, I have trouble seeing anyone else in this draft putting up the numbers he does with his abilities. I'll also say that I think Ponder will make a strong run for this. He's very pro ready and with AP behind him he should be able to comfortably work the play action game enough to let him put up solid numbers.

DROTY: Von Miller: Maybe I am a homer, but with Doom on the other side I think there's a great chance he gets enough sacks to win the award.

Coach of the year: Ken Whisenhunt: I don't think the Cardinals will be great this year, but if they get a solid vet QB I think Ken can win this division, and doing so with only 4 wins last year will make him a likely candidate.

Exectutive of the Year: Mark Dominik: If this team makes the playoffs, I have a hard time seeing Dominik not winning it after drafting 3rd overall 2 years ago.

I'm not sure if this last one is an award, but:

Assistant coach of the Year: Rob Ryan: I was really high on him for Denver to pursue as their HC, but clearly no one in the NFL thought he was ready yet. In Dallas, he'll be able to show his coaching abilities with a talented D (for once!). I'm really looking out for Dallas' D. Rob has overacheived with lackluster D's, and with an actual good D, I think Rob Ryan is primed to show why he's no short fiddle in the Ryan family.

If you guys can think of anyother awards I'll add them to mine, but off the top of my head this is what I got. What you got MTD?

If it's deemed spam, it gets deleted.

Good running games...

I’m a fan of them, but only 4 of the top 10 rushers went to the playoffs. Chris Johnson was on said list last year. Just because they run the ball well doesn’t translate to wins, as they proved last year

And good WR’s? Kenny Britt will be lucky if he doesn’t get suspended and the rest of their WR’s are average at best. This team will struggle for wins, and with a sub 60% completion rookie QB, I don’t see them improving much

If you reply to a comment/post/fanshot of mine, I will more likely then not respond to it, unless you come off like a d-bag.

Even if Suh did put a spotlight on Defensive Tackles coming into the league

Can’t really expect Dareus to put up numbers close to Suh’s playing out of a 3-4 front

Possibly

but Dareus isn’t a DL who will garner a lot of sacks. He’s a run defender first and in a 3-4 I don’t see that changing. He’s not a terrible pass rusher but he doesn’t have the abilities to ganer enough sacks for said award. The only way Dareus wins it is if he gets 5+ sacks and no other rookie has a decent season

Romo's pretty poopular here for comeback

I can see it, media loves him. Revis is highly unlikely, the only DB’s who win it usually post high INT numbers, and Revis doesn’t. Its not a knock on him, just the nature of the award.

Same goes for Amukamara, CB’s just don’t win awards.

Ryan Williams… Since when has Arizona effectively run the ball?

Hard to bet against Manning, and if Harbaugh can hit double digits (which can easily happen in the NFC West) he can win that award

Name recognition is huge in the voting for DPOTY. That’s probably why. If Revis can have a year where he shuts down everyone he plays and has 6+ sacks I think he will draw some votes. It all really depends on what the competition does.

Here are mine

MVP: Big Ben – he is going to post monster numbers and finally get the respect he deserves
Comeback: Sidney Rice: Very talented and if he stays healthy, 1000 yards should be easily achieved
DPOTY: James Harrison: He will be re-energized after some bogus fines last year and will post 15 or more sacks
OROTY: Baron Batch: Batch, 7th round pick of the Steelers, will post 500 rushing yards and 500 receiving yards and become a fan favorite
DROTY: Cameron Heyward: Cam will post 6 sacks and about 40 tackles while not even starting. Plus, he will have 2 INT TD’s and he will win the award
Coach of the Year: Mike Tomlin: 16-0. That is all that’s needed
Owner of the Year: The Rooney’s: 16-0. All that is needed
Douche of the year: A tie bewteen Tom Brady and Phillip Rivers
Biggest Disappointment: Joe Flacco: Flacco will throw an NFL record 41 INT’s to just 11 TD’s and the Ravens will go 0-16
Worst Coach of the Year: Rex Ryan: The Jets will go just 5-11 as Rex Ryan is going to eat so much after starting the year 0-5 that he will explode during a practice, injuring Revis, Sanchez, and Holmes for the rest of the year

Wanna make a bet that Joe throws less than 14 ints?

Flacco's first 3 years vs. Brady's, Manning's and Brees' first 3 years

Flacco threw for just 21 fewer passing yards than Brady and tossed four fewer interceptions. Flacco threw for 1,655 more yards than Brees, two more touchdowns and four fewer picks. Manning, who averaged 88 more passes per season, threw for way more yards and touchdowns than Flacco, but also tossed 24 more interceptions.

Biggest homers award:

Steelers and Ravens fans in a tie!

I have to vote Jags too

There is a chance somebody on the Steelers or Ravens wins atleast one of those awards. But the jags? Manning has to blow both ACls, and AJ get suspend for any of those to happen.

I'm getting tired of saying this: Dick LeBeau’s system is so complex very few rookies can make an impact.

MVP: Aaron Rodgers
-It has to be. He is the media darling now, he is on a team that will likelihood be competing for the best record in football and he is in a great situation surrounded by great talent.

DPOTY: LaMarr Woodley
-The guy is a monster at LB for the Steelers, he rushes the passer, he covers, he supports the run. I think that Woodley finally gets his due next year and wins DPOTY because of his huge role in having a successful defense, winning record and national exposure on one of the most popular teams.

OPOTY: Aaron Rodgers
-More often than not, the same player that wins MVP also wins OPOTY

DROTY: Nick Fairley
-Of all the rookies I think he’ll make the biggest impact. He won’t be facing double teams because he’ll be lining up next to Suh and he’ll have his way with NFL guards with his combination of quickness and tenacity. The combination of Fairley and Suh is scary and the media will catch on and vote for Fairley.

OROTY: Mark Ingram
-He is in the best situation of all offensive rookies to produce right away.

Coach: Andy Reid

Executive: Ozzie Newsome

ACOTY: Josh McDaniels

Alright, I'll bite.

MVP: Has to be between Rodgers or Rivers. Manning’s finally slowing down and becoming human to an extent and I doubt Brady outpaces Rodgers or Rivers given both of their offenses.

Comeback: Matt Stafford. **** Romo. Stafford played in about two and a half games last year and put up incredible numbers in that small time. He would’ve beaten the Jets had he stayed in, he beat the Redskins, and he might’ve beaten the Bears. He has more offensive pieces around him than ever and the guy has everything set for him to lead the Lions to the promised land and if he does the impossible and takes the Lions to the playoffs, can anyone other than him win it?

DPOTY: Ndamukong Suh. Had DROTY last year and if he somehow takes another step forward, I can’t see anyone being a better defensive player than him this year. With Fairley on his side, things should only get easier for that Lions D-Line.

DROTY: Peterson. Man did the Cardinals just get a scary backfield.

OROTY: Julio Jones. Ingram will get consideration but Julio Jones is going to one of the most complete teams in the NFL and the Falcons look to air it out a bit more now with that many pieces. It should look a bit more interesting than the Falcon’s ground-and-pound strategy last year.

Coach: Jim Schwartz. Three Lions, I know, but how many accolades can you give a team that finally breaks a playoff drought and lived in the basement of the NFL for many years?

Executive: Don’t even care, it’ll go to some big-market media darling team that I really don’t like.

by Doc Scratch on Jul 5, 2011 12:31 AM EDT reply actions

MVP: Hard to ever bet against Peyton Manning. Even when he shouldn’t win it (read: 2009)
Comeback: If Matthew Stafford can stay healthy, the Lions could make the playoffs. Stafford’s a lock for this award if they do.
OPOY: Drew Brees. With new toys in second year, explosive TE Jimmy Graham and rookie RB Mark Ingram, to go along with his already ridiculous offense, this could be the year Brees breaks Marino’s passing record.
DPOY: Ndamukong Suh. Will wreak havoc on offenses again this year.
OROY: Mark Ingram. Poised in the league’s best offense, and should entrench himself as the #1 RB on the team early on.
DROY: Ryan Kerrigan. With Orakpo taking a lot of the heat off him, Kerrigan is in a great position to lead all rookies in sacks. Could be one of the only bright spots for the Redskins this year.
Coach: Jim Schwartz. If the Lions make the playoffs, this is another lock. Sean Payton and Bill Belichek will get conisderation.

YUP!

Great idea

MVP: Rodgers. I know I’m going to sound like a homer here, but he’ll be on a team playing lots of prime time games, rising star, and high powered offense.

Comeback Player: Stafford. If he can stay healthy and the Lions be about as good as everyone thinks he should be a shoe in.

OPOY – A. Foster. This one may be out of left field, but he should be able to put a second good year together in that high powered offense of the Texans. If they can bust through then he’ll be a big reason why and he’s also more on the radar this year than last.

DPOY – Patrick Willis. SF again looks like an interesting pick in that wild wild NFC West. If their defense can carry the Niners to anything noteworthy Willis can quickly stand out among the crowd.

OROY – Mark Ingram. Sure I could say Julio Jones, but let’s face a few facts….1) typically RB’s win this award; 2) the Saints are one of the most balanced and talented teams in the NFL; and 3) Ingram should see plenty of carries in order to be a factor for this award.

DROY – Jimmy Smith. High risk and high reward. Should fit into the defense very well.

Coach – Mike McCarthy. Belecheck has screwed MM out of two years that he should be deserving of it (07 & 10). Now that he has the ring he should have the rep to be able to pull it off.

by PackApologist on Jul 9, 2011 10:39 PM EDT reply actions

And Belichick wasn't deserving of it in 07 or 2010?

Hard to screw someone else out of something when you are more qualified to win it.

McCarthy won’t win it without going 16-0. Stacked on O and D means something exceptional is required for the coach to win it. But hey, you can dream.

Is a good coaching job merely wins?

Belecheck had more wins…sure. But in 07 his team was much more talented. The Packers that year came out of no where to claim the second best record in the NFC.

Last year BB only won it on reputation. He did do a good job of manufacturing offense after the Moss trade, but that’s about it really. Meanwhile MM took a team that had not business being in the playoffs after the amount of injuries they suffered and got them to play together, work the schemes, and go on a huge winning streak to get into the playoffs.

Hell, he almost beat BB with a backup QB who had never…NEVER….started. Think about that for a second…..that highest coaching honor has been won by BB the last couple times he’s won it simply because his name is the most revered in the coaching ranks. That’s understandable but I don’t think he did the best coaching job. Morris, McCarthy, Reid, and others did a better job of coaching up their teams with less talent.

And since when do these awards go to the most deserving candidate?

Star power and wins are what gets you an award. Look at the Exec of the year last year. The ATL guy won it because his team had the best record. Ted Thompson should have been the run away favorite for the job he did last year and over the last few years, and I’m not just saying that because I’m a Packer fan. Look at how many holes he had to fill. Look at all the undrafted and street free agents that made big plays for the team.

Go Suns, Packers, Jays, and Huskers!

Well that's my point highlight McCarthy

I think after last year his name is being passed around enough that he’s a good candidate, especially if the team does pretty good.

This is sadly true sometimes

Although I think they tend to get the MVP, OPotY, and DPotY right quite often.
