You don’t see Alfonzo Dennard or Jared Crick as first round prospects?

Either of those guys could go in the 1st

I don’t know if Crick will be a 3-4 DE or a 4-3 DT, Dennard might have been a better pick for the Eagles at 24 than Jenkins but I went with the better known prospect. Your boys are hard to pick for…I went with Potter because of his versatility.

The Colts early picks are squeaky clean guys

so despite being a good fit for value and position, I’m be surprised if they took him.

I like Broyles, great route running/hands and extremely productive, fits what the Colts like.

Broyles is my ideal Colts pick, dead on.

I see Michael Floyd as more of a Pittsburgh pick. He has the size that they lack at WR and he could be the heir apparent to Hines Ward.

Jimmy hasn’t had any issues in 2 or 3 years now, so I would say he actually has proven that. I am with you though that some of the drinking stuff can be taken a little far. It just happens in college and young athletes are still human and will make mistakes. I’m not saying it’s ok and they should definitely be more focused somewhere else, but I don’t think based on just the drinking violations that it means they have true character issues. It’s more of just being young and dumb. Teams just need to do their homework on the players and find out if it’s real character issues or young and dumb because there is a difference between the two.

WR

I tend to agree that they would likely pass on Floyd given that there will be other options of equal value. I’m a little concerned about Broyles’ size. I have been very impressed with his on the field performance, but need another year to watch him. Right now, I might put Jeff Fuller a little ahead of him. I wouldn’t complain about either one though.

Yeah you never know how teams have them ranked. Broyles looks like he will be best suited in the slot where Fuller and Floyd are potential #1’s. I have heard people lower Fuller because he’s not fast, but he played extremely well against Patrick Peterson when they played. That game sold me on him.

Collie was thought to be a pure slot guy, but the Colts started using him on the outside last year

Obviously, the prefer to play him in the slot, but with all the injuries we had last year I remember him playing outside on several occasions. He did just fine outside. I think he is good enough to do either.

I agree with shake about his game speed. I also think he slimmed way down and got a lot faster last year from the year prior. I noticed it very early in the season that he looked a lot more fit and it really showed on the field.

White has pretty good timed speed (4.49 combine 40), but obviously was a step slower than Collie.

looking at his highlights from last year I only saw two plays in there where he was on the outside and one was in a situation where they were bunched and the other was isolating him. Not saying he never does because you have watched him play more than I have, but it just looked like to me that he still plays slot the majority of the time or at least the times he’s effective.

draft order at this point is almost irrelevant.

Yup. For all we know, your ‘skins could be picking at 32. All it takes is a nice little hot streak at the right time, plus a little bit of luck. An injury here, a bounce there, and everything’s up in the air.

As far as your mock draft goes, I don’t see anything that I think isn’t right. Not sure if Tenn will give up on a 1st round pick in Locker that easily, but who knows. Locker could get the “Jimmy Clausen treatment”

Also, not a fan of Marcus Forston. As a huge ‘Cane fan, I’m not very high on Forston’s skillset. Another that I don’t like is Nate Potter. From what I’ve seen so far, he doesn’t seem like a 1st round prospect to me.

‘Course, these opinions are all hogwash considering they haven’t played a down this year, but it’ll be interesting to see how things go.

If the Skins are picking at 32

it will be because they ended up trading to get there…lol. I have Tenn. picking 1st but trading the pick to Arizona

Tennessee trades pick to Arizona for the Cardinals 1st & 2nd in 2012 & their 1st & in 2013.
I don’t think that they will give up on Locker that easily but I think he will struggle in his 1st season. I went with Forston because right now I think he is the best looking DT but that could easily change when the season starts. Potter I like because he can play all across the line & GB is really hard to mock, with their injured players coming back I am not too sure what their needs are.

by ENsDad27 on Jul 3, 2011 3:37 PM EDT reply actions

DE Ryan Pickett is getting up there in years. C Scott Wells is older as well. If James Jones doesn’t re-sign, we’ll need another WR at some point. James Starks still has plenty to prove at RB, as this will likely be Ryan Grant’s last season with GB. We still don’t have a clear starter at OLB across from matthews. Possibly another CB.

Does that help? A lot of these won’t be made clear until the games start though.

No problem.

We have our bookend OTs for the next decade in Bulaga and Sherrod (hopefully) and Josh Sitton is a monster at RG. Aaron Rodgers is obviously our guy at QB.

Unless Finley gets hurt again or demands a ton of money, he’ll be our starting TE for a while. Greg Jennings – Jordy Nelson – Randall Cobb is our WR corps core, but you can never have enough pass catchers.

Tramon Williams and Sam Shields are a terrific young CB duo, although you can never have enough DBs. Nick Collins is a perennial Pro-Bowler and Morgan Burnett is the SS for the present and future.

The Claymaker has one OLB spot locked down, and we have our ILBs in Hawk and Bishop as well.

Crosby will likely be re-signed when the lockout is over, and Tim Masthay is our punter.

There you go. That’s probably more than you wanted, but it was fun talking about actual football.

That doesn't mean they don't need one.

Gene is a BAP guy, and picks who is BAP on his board. If a linebacker was BAP he would of definetley been the pick. We don’t have a starting MLB or WLB right now, and I’m sure a free agent or two will be signed, but there is a high chance that it is a patch, until we get a young guy(like Burfict) to take that spot.

Cardinals aren't giving up 2 1sts and a 2nd to move 3 spots.

That’s insane. Besides, they will get a QB as soon as free agency begins. Wouldn’t mind Troy Smith getting signed there. Better than what is there now. Only Skelton is worth keeping at all.

Two firsts and a 2nd.

But it’s really beside the point. They need to get a quarterback now, not in the next draft. If they want to keep Fitzgerald they better show they are serious about resolving this problem. Waiting until the next draft is too late. It will cost less to get Kolb. Fitz is on record as wanting Kolb in AZ too. Sitting on their hands to get a QB could mean the best receiver in the league leaving town too.

Giants fans find that reasonable

Since we gave up two 1sts and a 3rd to get Eli. Turned into Rivers, Merriman, and Kaeding.

It’s all just speculation now since we do not know what will happen in FA. If they do not get a QB now, even if Fitz leaves, you still need a franchise QB. If Skelton does not play well, Luck is a good pick.

I don't want Manti Te'o

I like Goff better and he’s the same as Goff to me. If we ran a 3-4 then I would like the pick.

I could see us drafting another CB in next years draft, especially if we have the last pick in the 1st round. And since we have such a late pick, I could also see us reaching for a need, like a Left Tackle or Center. I could also see us picking up a Defensive End or Running Back, because those are usually the best players available that late in each round.

by GoffAttack on Jul 4, 2011 10:12 PM EDT reply actions

but he’s not even close to being in Te’o ‘s class. If we managed to steal Te’o at #32, you could pencil us in the SB the next year too. LBzers don’t mean much, but one that good does.

If we had to draft a LB

I would rather Luke Kuechly. He’s more athletic than Te’o and he could play all 3 LB positions. He’s also better in coverage than Te’o too. Although I’d have to admit that Te’o is a better tackler (not by much) and blitzer.

After watching Te’o’s film, he probably is a better MLB than Goff. I’d just rather a guy who could do it all at OLB.
