CWP's 2012 Mock Draft

Blah blah blah Introduction

Star-divide

1. Redskins - Andrew Luck QB Stanford

Redskins "luck" out on winning the Luck sweepstakes, where Shanny gets another Stanford QB to ride to future glory.

2. Panthers - Jerel Worthy DT Michigan St.

Another disappointing year for the Panthers, they shore up the middle of their defensive line and with CJ and EB rushing from the sides it looks beastly.

3. Vikings - Jonathan Martin OT Stanford

They're gonna need a premier Left Tackle to protect their new QB. I have Martin as the best LT in this class for now.

4. Dolphins - Matt Barkley QB USC

After skipping on Matt Ryan for Jake Long, they finally find another Matt to call their own.

5. Bengals - Quinton Coples DE UNC

Mike Brown sucks.

6. Broncos - Marcus Forston DT Miami

I'm thinking he has a breakout year with a new coaching staff, and the Broncos still have a need at DT.

7. Cardinals - Matt Kalil OT USC

Cardinals are happy Kalil has fallen to them, Levi Brown can move to RT and they can all live happily ever after.

8. Raiders - Justin Blackmon WR Oklahoma St

Heyward-Bey 2.0? I don't think so, Blackmon actually knows how to catch the football.

9. Bills - Landry Jones QB Oklahoma

Great fit for Gailey's system, and a strong enough arm to deal with those Buffalo winters. AFCE lookin' pretty good QB-wise if everyone pans out.

10. Titans - Alshon Jeffrery WR South Carolina

AJ 2.0 seemingly falling into their lap, Titans gladly take him. With Kenny Britt and CJ2k Jake Locker has some very nice weapons to work with.

11. Browns - Vontaze Burfict MLB ASU

Browns defense has needed an identity for quite some time, did the Browns just get beastly?

12. Texans - Dre Kirkpatrick CB Alabama

Do I even need to explain this one?

13. Seahawks - Brandon Jenkins DE Florida St.

This pick makes to much sense, Seahawks are beginning to rise back to relevancy.

14. Jaguars - Manti Te'O MLB Notre Dame

Being second best ain't to bad, perfect landing spot in Jacksonville

15. Buccaneers - Tank Carder OLB TCU

Frank the Tank! Frank the Tank! Frank the Tank! Frank the Tank!

16. Lions - Travis Lewis OLB Oklahoma

They finally grab a Linebacker, a capable one at that.. Lions may just have a good defense here pretty soon.

17. Giants - Trent Richardson RB Alabama

The beast from the south moves north, taking NY by storm.

18. Chargers - Donte Paige-Moss OLB UNC

Dolts try again at the OLB position.

19.  49ers - Jared Crick DE Nebraska

Buildin that defense back up.

20. Cowboys - Stephen Gilmore CB South Carolina

I don't like the Cowboys, so I'm giving them Gilmore.

21. Rams - Brandon Thompson DT Clemson

Shoring up the middle will go a long way to helping the wunderkind Bradford get to a SB.

22. Colts - Jeff Fuller WR Texas A&M

Tell me this doesn't make tons of sense? Fuller and Collie, ridiculous.

23. Eagles - Robert Griffin QB Baylor

Vick 2.0? At the very least, he'll be a good understudy. Just can't pick up any of those bad habits...

24. Ravens - Ben Jones C Georgia

Long time Raven Matt Birk finally turns in the reigns to the offense. Now Flacco's gotta do all the work.

25. Chiefs - Donta Hightower ILB Alabama

The Chiefs actually won a Playoff game, and look to complete their LB corp here.

26. Steelers - Alfonzo Dennard CB Nebraska

Can Polamalu get some help back there finally?

27. Bears - Michael Brewster C Ohio State

Well at least here he can legitimately get paid for his work now.

28. Patriots f/Saints - Courtney Upshaw DE/OLB

Will Beli dancer finally grab an OLB?

29. Jets - Devin Taylor DE/OLB South Carolina

6'7? Not big enough I say.

30. Packers - Nate Potter LG Boise State

Gotta keep that QB upright, he can't escape em all with his Shoryuken.

31. Patriots - Steven Decastro OG Stanford

Still no DE however, oh well like Beli is gonna keep this pick anyway.

32. Browns f/Falcons - Michael Floyd WR Notre Dame

Subject to change if he enters the Supplemental Draft or decides to party again.

If it's deemed spam, it gets deleted.

Might want Brewster over Jones for Baltimore if looking at a Center, but still solid. Although it is extremely rare that we see a Center go in the first round, there have only been a handful of them. So to say that 2 will go in the 1st is a bit of a stretch I believe.

Ozzie would also look very closely at Donta Hightower there I believe. Looking for Ray’s replacement in one of the strongest ILB classes in a very long time, plus he is a Bama boy and Ozzie loves those guys.

Flacco's first 3 years vs. Brady's, Manning's and Brees' first 3 years

Flacco threw for just 21 fewer passing yards than Brady and tossed four fewer interceptions. Flacco threw for 1,655 more yards than Brees, two more touchdowns and four fewer picks. Manning, who averaged 88 more passes per season, threw for way more yards and touchdowns than Flacco, but also tossed 24 more interceptions.

I agree with Malor that centers don’t go in the 1st too often, but if we do go for one I think it has to be Brewster. Hightower will definitely get a serious look since Ozzie loves bama boys and if Ray Ray has a really strong season I think he could find his way into the 1st possibly as well. Last time we took a safety from Miami it worked pretty good.

I like Ben Jones slightly more then Brewster

Mainly because of Brewster’s height, although he plays with good leverage someone who’s strong and squat that is a beast of a blocker would be perfect for that Smashmouth offense.

Also, Centers have been more and more common in the first because for the last few years one has been drafted in the first.

Fuller makes sense

he’ll need to have very strong year though. The Colts love production, which is one reason I think Ryan Broyles is also a great fit for them.

I was about to bash you for giving the Broncos Forston at 6

but then I saw “Chiefs” in your name and realize your just hoping we’re that dumb…

The only way Forston goes this high in the first is if the Raiders take him, he has Raider written all over him, meaning he looks like he can play and he does combine things like he can play but he just doesn’t play.

I see your banking on a breakout, so maybe it could happen, but right now he’s more of a 2nd rounder

I think the Broncos would be best served

with either a WR or CB, I’m thinking Blackmon or Kirkpatrick would be better picks here

Eh you guys just drafted a WR in the first

Unless his injury is very serious you’re stuck with the guy and I don’t see Kirkpatrick as a top 10 guy unless his hips get better.

I honestly think Forston has a breakout year, and I’d be super pissed off if you guys drafted him. Out of all the AFCW teams you guys are the least hated for me. :p

I would be surprised if Forston broke out

The Canes rarely do well with athletes such as him as late (Allen Bailey comes to mind). I’m not saying it won’t, and at this stage of the game your guess is as good as mine, but I’m not gonna hold my breath.

WR could very well be a need next year. I have high hopes for Thomas, but looking at the rest of the WR’s, Lloyds contract is up next year and who knows if the Broncos would be willing to pay him the contract he probably will rightfully deserve. Gaff’s getting old, and Royal’s been underachieving since 08. Decker I like his chances but at best he’s a #2 possesion guy. WR could very well be a need after next season even if Thomas can bounce back strong.

Kirkpatrick has more of a top 10 argument then Forston does, we’ll see though.

And although I don’t blame you for not doing trades, I could see the Broncos trading down because a) new CBA will likely make top 10 trades more frequent and b) with Kalil, Blackmon, and Jones available, someone may trade up for either of them.

If you reply to a comment/post/fanshot of mine, I will more likely then not respond to it, unless you come off like a d-bag.

I love Kirkpatrick but I will Take Jeffrey over Blackmon any day of the week

And I don’t think the Broncos have a need at WR with Brandon Lloyd, D Thomas, E Royal, Eric Decker, Gaffney, and they youngster who I think will break out this year Matt Willis

I love our WR’s, but looking to the future the stability of the position is shaky at best.

Thanks for giving the niners a DL

Our D is lacking a lot of talent. No that is not sarcasm its the truth. The LB corp is ok and the secondary has some prospects but the DL is getting old its needs to be replaced. Expect multiple picks.

Valid

I’ve heard from a lot of Eagles fans that QB is gonna be a big need especially since Kolb is out and Vick isn’t getting any younger.

It definitely will be a need ...

… I just don’t know if Griffin is the right guy for the team, simply because I have not seen enough of him to make a judgment. From what I have read he is a much better athlete than he is QB at this point, but we saw Vick have his best season as a passer last year at the age of 31 so I am confident that the Eagles would be able to get the best out of any QB they choose.

Vick's style of play

Means he isn’t gonna last long, I’m sorry to say it man. He’s not a big guy to begin with and could barely last the season last year, and once teams begin to key in on him at 31 he’s not gonna have very many years left.

Griffin is a good player, and a great passer and runner. He needs some development but in a couple years he can take the reigns from Vick.

thoughts

Don’t think Worthy is a #2 right now.

Not sure Oakland is looking WR. They have some guys they like, Murphy, Ford, Schilens. Still hoping for DHB to emerge, and they drafted another speedster this year in Moore from Tennessee.

The Giants pick is valid.

Why would SD go OLB when they just drafted Mouton? [sarcasm font]

"Good, bad, I'm the guy with the gun."

by ct17 on Jul 7, 2011 12:23 AM EDT reply actions

Ah but this is the 2012 draft

So Worthy very well could be worthy then no? Besides that, I really liked what I saw from his 2011 tape, he’s getting double/triple teamed non-stop yet continues to produce.

Their WR corp is shaky, DHB just looks like a flat bust, Ford looks like a great player in the future but Schilens and Murphy have definite doubts. I like Moore actually, its just Blackmon screams Oakland Raiders for some reason.

No more CB's for Texans

We have enough and more than enough depth.. We need a veteran corner not a guy whos going to take a 2-3 years to become decent.

Plus with 3 cb’s drafted in just the past two round( high picks at that) We really dont need em.

Give me Manti Te’O.
Give me Ray Ray Armstrong. Give me Jeff Fuller.

Your 2ndary is still bad

I like Harris though his play is inconsistent and he’s smallish , and what’s his face Kareem? just looked horrible when I saw him play.

Your suggestions aren’t any better, Te’O doesn’t look like a 3-4 ILB, he doesn’t get off blocks well enough. I’m just going to ignore the Ray Ray suggestion at this point because you can’t be serious, and I like Jeff Fuller but not at #12 overall. You can find guys to develop behind AJ in later rounds.

He's a prototypical tampa-2 'backer

undersized, high motor, great tackler, strong in pass coverage, very instinctive.

I think his pass rushing skills put him over the other OLBs and into a mid-first selection

The thing about Tank is, he has probably the smallest DL in College Football in front of him so he’s constantly getting blockers yet still makes great plays on a consistent basis.

doubt the Colts will

We beat NO once and almost beat ATL twice in our division last year. The 49ers have a rookie HC, a rookie QB, and a meh defense.

That’s in a division with Bradford (improving?), Arizona (Kolb/Orton?), Seattle (showed they could beat NO in their division).

Its just so wide open at this point you really don’t know. While I don’t see the Buccs doing the same thing competing against NO and ATL, and if Carolina can get a semblance of an offense that defense is still pretty good.

Its just what happens man, nothing against you guys though beause I do like you’re team. Sorta reminds me of the Chiefs a little bit.
