ESPN: Jets rookie Kenrick Ellis faces deportation if convicted
New York Jets third-round pick Kenrick Ellis could get deported if he's convicted of aggravated felony, ESPN New York reports.
Ellis is a permanent resident of the U.S. but a native of Jamaica.
Ellis was supposed to stand trial Tuesday on assault charges, but it was delayed until Nov. 28. As Rich Cimini reports, the trial wouldn't take place during the NFL season, so it would come sometime after the season is over.
The Jets drafted Ellis out of Hampton in the third round this year. A mammoth nose tackle at 6-foot-5 and 346 pounds, Ellis had 94 tackles last season. He originally signed with South Carolina out of high school.
Ellis was arrested in April after allegedly attacking Hampton student Dennis Eley. Ellis was indicted on charges of malicious wounding.
The story behind Ellis' arrest is seemingly based on rumor. Ellis says he was acting in self defense. Eley claims he was attacked without provocation and his wounds required two surgeries.

that is why the Steelers didnt draft him
"Franco made that play because he never quit on the play. He kept running, he kept hustling. Good things happen to people who hustle."
Probably why no-one but the Jets drafted him.
Alternatively, that is exactly why the Jets drafted him.
