Cordy Glenn 2012 NFL Draft prospect notes

Photo

Cordy Glenn
6'5, 348 pounds | Offensive line | Georgia

First word: It is rare to see such a massive player with good athletic ability.  However, when a player possesses both good size and athleticism he quickly catches the eye of evaluators.  When your 6'5 348 pounds, you catch the eye of almost every evaluator.

Cordy Glenn is one of those rare prospects that possesses both the size and athletic skills to make an impact in the NFL.  Glenn is above average in both the passing and running game.  He has a natural bend and thick base to hold up at the point of attack.  In pass protection, he avoids wasted motions, remains balanced, and mirrors the rush.  He does a great job of absorbing contact and holding his ground.  His long arms allow him to engage the rushers and keep them off his frame.  Glenn's size, strength, and balance are what makes him a good run blocker.  He does a good job of velcroing to the defender and driving him off the ball.  His heavy hands make it tough for defense to disengage and pursue.  Glenn is a real beast at the 2nd level because he is always under control.

The biggest concern I have is Glenn's lack of explosiveness.  He doesn't do a good job of firing off the ball and rolling his hips into the defender.  This impacts his ability to create a jolt which makes him vulnerable to quicker defensive linemen.

Overall, Glenn looks like a 2nd round prospect that could anchor the interior of the offensive line.  It would be a mistake to move to tackle as he doesn't possesses the quickness to consistently hold up in space.  He reminds me a little of former TCU offensive lineman Marcus Cannon.

Bold statement: Cordy Glenn will be seen as a guard prospect and likely a day two selection

Notes:

  • Glenn has excellent size and a very thick base
  • For his size, Glenn possesses good athleticism
  • He has a natural bend with fluid motions
  • His size and technique provide Glenn with a good strong anchor
  • Glenn is able to stone blitzing linebackers and hold his ground after contact
  • He has good footwork which keeps him balanced
  • His balance helps him sustain his blocks and move defenders off the ball
  • Glenn does a nice job climbing to the 2nd level, staying under control, and velcroing to the defender
  • In pass protection, Glenn keeps a wide base and shows the ability to shuffle and slide
  • He avoids wasted motions and keeps his hands out in front
  • However, he tends to get over extended hindering his change of direction ability
  • In the running game, Glenn has the strength and leverage to drive defenders off the ball
  • His heavy hands also allow him to engage and seal
  • He needs to do a better job of exploding off the ball and rolling his hips to deliver a jolt
  • Glenn has enough quickness to get across the face of the defender and protect the gap

The only Guard I have ranked above him is Osemele

And that’s just because of versatility. @nd round pick is good for a guard and I think you’re right. He’s a week 1 starter to anyone who needs help in the middle.
