Good or Bad the Spotlight is on Andrew Luck

Andrew Luck might be the most hyped NFL prospect in recent memory.  I would argue that he is receiving as much hype as LeBron James got while playing in high school.  The attention on Luck is deserved because he is an extremely talented player with a ton of potential.

Luck is not only a talented player but also plays a position that might be the most important in all of sports.  This season will be filled with pressure and expectations as Luck tries to live up to the hype.  He will not only be judged by his on the field play but also the way he handles the pressure.  It might have been easier for Luck to enter the NFL draft this year rather than going through all this scrutiny.  However, if he is going to live up to the expectations he will need to handle the spotlight.

I fully expect Luck to receive some undo criticism this season as the popular thing seems to be going against the grain.  There will be plenty of analysts and writers looking to find any flaw in his game and criticizing every mistake.  Unfortunately for Luck, NFL teams will be doing the same thing as the more game tape available the easier it is to find flaws.

The spotlight is on Andrew Luck and he needs to remain poised in order to cash in on this talents.  However, Luck has done nothing but impress and handle every situation with class.  There is little doubt this young man will be able to handle the pressure.

No he won't

Because he’s in the same class as Peyton Manning, Carson Palmer and Sam Bradford as NFL prospects. All of them were the perfect #1 overall picks, they have the size, talent, production and most importantly the passion to be great. The reason why former highly touted junior prospects got picked apart like Matt Leinert, Jake Locker, etc. was because of their lack of ability in one of the areas I mentioned above.

The 2011 QB class could be one of the least talented group we have ever seen, and the selection of Cam Newton as the #1 overall only highlighted it. Andrew Luck was going to be the #1 overall pick, the same way Sam Bradford would have been the #1 overall pick in 2009 had he left. But because Bradford and Luck are and were such elite QB prospects NFL teams are only concerned with their progression as a player because the talent is so evident and obvious. As long as Luck’s talent and ability progresses he’s an easy choice with literally no glaring weaknesses. See with Newton, Gabbert, Locker and Ponder each of them had questions concerning their overall ability to play QB at the next level whether it be a mental thing or a physical thing. With Luck those questions are virtually non existent as they were with Peyton Manning, Carson Palmer and Sam Bradford.

Andrew Luck is in an elite group of QB prospects, and it’s a shame to think that one of the teams that selected a QB in 2011 will have a shot at him in 2012.

I’ll say no because at least from what I’ve seen he doesn’t try to be in the spotlight like other superstars.

Yes

he’ll get the criticism though it won’t cost him going #1 in the draft. He’ll put up the numbers and probably fall short of a Championship and some critics will over-critique him and believe Barkley or Jones should go ahead of him. However, he’s still the best pro prospect of the bunch and will finish 2nd in the Heisman voting but 1st in the draft. Similar to 1997.

Of course

He’ll be overanalyzed and whatnot and eventually something will come up. Peyton had a few detractors too, so did Bradford, and so will Luck
