South Carolina/Georgia NFL Draft watch notes
Should they go at each other today, the one-on-one between Georgia cornerback Brandon Boykin and South Carolina wide receiver Alshon Jeffery should be a doozy. It's obvious the 6-foot-4, 229-pound Jeffery has the size advantage on the smaller Boykin. But Boykin is a cornerback who plays above his size and likes to get aggressive.
Jeffery had a good game against Georgia last season with 7 catches for 103 yards, but it wasn't the typically dominant game we saw several times last season. If Boykin can keep him under 100 yards today, the stock for each could go in opposite directions.
The stock for Georgia offensive tackle Cordy Glenn is plummeting after he looked stiff and slow in his debut on the outside last week. He's facing perhaps the best freshman in the country in man child Jadeveon Clowney.
South Carolina is stacked with NFL talent this season. Defensive linemen Devin Taylor and Melvin Ingram are legit NFL players. Safety hybrid Antonio Allen plays with a lot of pop and was stellar last season with 10.5 tackles for loss. He had a ridiculous 16 tackles and 2 forced fumbles against East Carolina last week.
Cornerback Stephon Gilmore may be as talented as any cornerback in the nation. Since he doesn't need help coverage, it allows Allen to move around the field. Guard Rokevious Watkins is a massive road grader inside who will do well in a power scheme.
As mentioned last week, Georgia is loaded with talent as well. Like Glenn, center Ben Jones had a rough go of things last week and needs a bounce back.
Junior tight end Orson Charles could have another great game today. He had six catches for 109 yards last season. He's an emerging talent as a receiving tight end.
If your team needs a kicker, Georgia has a good one in senior Blair Walsh. He's arguably the top kicking prospect in the nation.
