Orson Charles NFL Draft prospect notes
Orson Charles
6'3, 240 pounds | Tight end | Georgia
First word: As he showed against Boise State, Charles will be one of Georgia's go-to receivers. But as he showed in the second game against South Carolina, he's improved enough as a blocker to be an asset in that area. In his first two seasons at Georgia, Charles wasn't used much, catching 52 combined passes.
Charles is listed by Georgia at being 6-foot-3, but may measure in shorter. If he does, it will really hurt his draft stock. He manages to get by with his speed, quickness off the snap and good enough strength. As Aaron Hernandez and Dustin Keller have shown, though, smart offenses can make players with Charles' skill set succeed.
Games viewed: Boise State (2011), South Carolina ('11), Auburn ('10), Florida ('10), UCF ('10)

Notes:
While Charles splits out to the slot, he plays with his hand down more than a lot of college tint ends.
He actually seems to do better when he's coming out of a three-point stance. Because he has solid speed, Charles can run a delay route and still get open.
When he lines up in the slot, he's usually asked to run simple vertical routes.
Has flashed good, soft hands to catch the ball outside his frame. Still tends to drop some catchable throws, however.
Possesses intriguing athleticism for the position. Should time well in the offseason which could help negate concerns about his size.
Continuing to develop as a blocker. Is much better when he can work his man to the outside using their momentum against them. Has some trouble using power playing someone to the inside.
Has been asked to block on the second level at times and struggles locate and use proper technique against defenders.
