Stars of the Week - Week 2

This week featured plenty of impressive offensive performances. So many so that 125 receiving yards and 1TD did not even get mentioned. 100 rushing yards and 2TDs did not get mentioned. 330 passing yards and 4TDs did not get mentioned. That is how impressive this weeks offensive performances were. On the other hand, the defensive performances lacked any standout performances and only included six performances worthy of mention. After the jump, see this weeks stars of the week and the dud of the week.

Star-divide

Offensive Stars:

Star No. 1: Tom Brady, QB, New England Patriots

Star No. 2: Miles Austin, WR, Dallas Cowboys

Star No. 3: Vincent Jackson, WR, San Diego Chargers

Honorable Mentions: Jeremy Maclin, Adrian Peterson, Fred Jackson, Darren McFadden, Denarius Moore

Defensive Stars:

Star No. 1: Roman Harper, S, New Orleans Saints: Harper was the best defensive performer of the week, posting seven tackles, two sacks for twenty-three yards, and forced a fumble.

Star No. 2: Charles Woodson, CB, Green Bay Packers: Woodson took advantage of the rookie Cam Newton, picking him off twice and also he has four tackles.

Star No. 3: Jason Hatcher, DE, Dallas Cowboys: Hatcher had four tackles and two sacks for fifteen yards lost. Great game for the third round pick from 2006 out of Grambling State.

Honorable Mentions: Morgan Burnett, Cullen Jenkins, DeMarcus Ware, Antonio Cromartie

Dud of the Week: Antonio Gates, TE, San Diego Chargers: Antonio Gates fantasy owners know just how awful he was. He posted zero catches. ZERO! He better step his game up for the rest of the season as his first two weeks have been more than disappointing.

No Cam for offensive star?

And I think Dalton, Green, and Decker at least deserve honorable mentions, all 3 played very well and made the Bengals Broncos game very exciting

Cam Newton?

He threw 3 interceptions

Interceptions

Sminterceptions… But seriously, yeah they looked bad, but he had yet another career day and kept last year’s worst team in the league within one possession of the superbowl champions. Sorry if this is for “fantasy stars” but as a whole Cam was a star.

Just ask, if it was someone like Ryan Fitzpatrick and he had those same numbers, would you be impressed?

If Fitzpatrick did this

with the Panthers against defending SB champ Packers, then yes I would be very impressed

I guess we have to disagree then. Turnovers are so strongly correlated to losing that the yards don’t mean much to me.

No he was not

He is a stat whore who attempted 46 passes.I don’t find it impressive. Look at the following two lines and tell me which one contributed more to a team trying to win a game.

QB 1: 28 for 46, 432 yards, 1TD, 3 INTs, 72.0 QB Rating
QB 2: 19 for 30, 308 yards, 2TD, 0INT, 119.9 QB Rating

As flawed as you might think the QB Rating is, it is the best way to measure a QBs success and as seen by it, Newton was below average last week. Putting up 432 yards on 46 passes and throwing 3INTs to just 1TD will not make my list ever. You have to be efficient AND put up big numbers to make the list and that is why only 1QB made the list today.

What happened to Carolina the running team?

Nice to help the rookie QB out.

stat whore?

as if this list isn’t that? Granted, three picks were bad. As I’ve said before, maybe this is more stats oriented then I would like, but for throwing for that many yards and keeping the league’s worst team last year within one possesion of the league’s best team last year, that’s a star to me. It wasn’t pretty, granted, but he did a lot of great things just to keep that team in the game.

It seems the 3 INTS are a killer for you. That’s fine, your opinion. Granted they sucked, but for the rest of the game he was a star and as of now is the only reason why they have been close in both their games.

But he is also the reason they did not win that game

So as much as he kept his team in the game, he also took his team out of the game.

How can someone with 3INTs and a 80 QB Rating get a mention?

He was awful. He is just a stat whore. On Dalton, Green, and Decker, that is what I was talking about with how awesome performances did not even get mentioned. There were so many performances that were special like V-Jax, Maclin, and AP that he great games by Green and Decker had to miss the list. Also, Dalton was good and almost made the list but just missed it.

It came down to Dalton and McFadden

and I thought McFadden’s 2TDs and 150 total yards was more impressive

NO ANTONIO CROMARTIE?

Two picks, a few tackles, and both picks had awesome returns and one should have been ruled a TD. He embarrased every Jags receiver he covered as well as Luke Mccown. Also, he had a 50+ yard return, and another 30+ yarder. I’m dissapointed he’s not here.

Oops. Missed that

Added him to the HM’s although he probably should have gotten a SOW. Next time he is borderline I will give him the edge over the person he is close with. Sorry
