Inclusion of Robert Griffin III changes 2012 NFL Draft
According to ESPN NFL analyst Chris Mortensen, Baylor junior quarterback Robert Griffin III will enter the 2012 NFL Draft.
Griffin's decision to enter the draft has been expected, though he nor Baylor has confirmed the report made on Sunday NFL Countdown earlier today.
The inclusion of Griffin in the draft represents the lynchpin for the first round. Although we don't know who will hold the No. 1 pick, it's clear Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck will be the choice. That's whether or not he goes to the Indianapolis Colts or a team like the Cleveland Browns, Miami Dolphins or Washington Redskins trade into the pick.
But how interested will those quarterback-hungry teams be in trading up to the second or third pick to select Griffin? Given Griffin's unique skill set and sky high potential, those picks are now worth considerably more in a trade scenario.
It seems we already know the conclusion to this story. Two teams are going to get two very good quarterbacks in Luck and Griffin. It may also be safe to say at least one team will be getting numerous draft picks to select either quarterback. What we won't know until April is which teams will fill out the middle chapters.
Note: An associated Athletic Director at Baylor was told by Griffin this report is untrue. It's hard to doubt Mortensen, though. Notably in regard to the 2012 NFL Draft, he was the first to report that USC left tackle Matt Kalil was entering the draft. Mortensen's sources are most likely agents.
We have a full scouting report on Griffin written up. Would anyone like to see it?
