Michael Brockers NFL Draft scouting report

Michael Brockers
6'6, 306 pounds | Defensive tackle | LSU

Pass rush:
Generates a good bull rush using his powerful legs and has the quickness to be used to get outside on twists. Does a nice job of playing to the outside allowing the defensive end to get wide around the edge. Has shown an advanced knowledge of how to use to his frame to get skinny and work through the gap. Would be able to make his most immediate impact as a five technique on a three-man front.

Pursuit/Quickness: Gets off the line of scrimmage with ease. His first step isn't elite, but it's not bad. Displays good effort if he loses on the first move. Gives a good effort to get his hand on the ball carrier, even when held up on blocks. Doesn't always work to the wide outside edge when a play develops. Light on his feet.

Star-divide

Run defend: Although Brockers frequently requires double team blocks, he doesn't give up ground. Gets lined up over center or in the A-gap. Shows good instincts to get after running backs as they come through the hole. Has nice change of direction ability for such a big player. Alert lineman who can quickly recognize and react to trap blocks.

Strength: Is still growing into his frame, but already has good power. Has big, strong legs that help him fire off the snap. Could easily get up to 315 pounds by adding more bulk to his upper body. Still learning how to use his strength in the pass rush.

Tackling: Uses a combination of length and power to take down tacklers. Gets wide in the running lane to engulf ball carriers. Is nimble because of his change of direction skills, so Brockers has the skills to work through the trash near the line.

Technique: Brockers has a tendency to come out of his stance high and give up leverage to shorter linemen. Really had issues with this against Alabama's William Vlachos. Shows good handwork to get off blocks.

Final word: In the 2012 NFL Draft, few players carry as much potential and upside as Brockers, a redshirt sophomore. On a loaded LSU defensive line, Brockers routinely stood out and should transition well to the NFL. At 6-foot-6, Brockers has an impressive frame with a lot of room to grow. Because of his relative inexperience (one season as a full-time starter), he'll need to get drafted on a team that can rotate him in while he develops.

While the Giants are already set at DT.......

I dunno, I did love the LSU line this year. What range is he said to be drafted in?

if Brockers is in the draft, we'd be lucky to have him last to the Giants

he’d easily be the top DT in this class

thats why I think most of us fans wanted the QB's to enter this year

2 more QBs in the first drop down 2 prospects
sucks
this draft class isn’t exactly loaded, I mean towards the end of the first I think teams like the Giants Steelers Ravens Patriots Packers can take a shot on a player they really like, that player may not even have a first round grade according to us but some team will see a Chandler Jones Stephon Gilmore or Jared Crick and take a chance by making a slight reach on him

Vontaze Burfict would be a great fit for teams like that because they all have leadership and could help that kid out

I need to watch some early season LSU, but Brockers will probably be the No. 2 DT behind Devon Still of Penn State.

I like Still

but I put Brockers ahead right now

I think Still is just too bland

I think he’ll be a solid pro, a starter at worst, but he just seems to be nothing more. Brockers has all sorts of upside. He was clearly the best lineman on a team that has backups that are future 1st and 2nd rounders.

I think Brockers was a top 5 pick if he went back to LSU for another year, tho I wouldn’t be surprised if he went top 10 this year after blowing up the combine.

thats a good point

disruptive DL like this don’t fall far, and you guys are going to be picking late 20’s or in the 30’s, maybe 32

if you guys get a real good ILB, wow just wow

that front 4 is redonkulous
when your secondary is healthy you have playmakers
Ross sucks, but Webster is lockdown, easily the most underrated CB in the NFL and a ballhawk
Terrell Thomas is a great #2 CB opposite Webster and is great at coming up to defend the run and makes tackles
Antrell Rolle is Antrell Rolle, a playmaker and leader
Kenny Phillips is a stud if he is on the field

if the Giants got that Mike ILB man watch out, I thought Luke Kuelechy was going to be there for you beginning of the year but idk if that happens now
regardless I respect Jerry Reese soooo much and love how he builds teams
kudos to that man, and I already know the Giants will make a smart pick no matter how late they are picking in the draft

wow enough Giant man love for me, peace

I was just watching highlight tapes on NFLN On Demand

Williams kept up with Spiller for 50 yards. Now we just have to get the knowledge in him.

TThomas is coming off a 2nd ACL tear (1st was back in college). So who knows what he will be like.

Any reason? I think Still is more pro ready, which a team like the Panthers needs.

Panthers have Ron Edwards coming back next year to start probably beside McClain.

Then Neblett and Shirley both showed well when given the chance and with Fua around as well for snaps, we can draft for upside as he will be able to rotate at the beginning.

A lot of Panther fans were pushing the DT need down compared to CB and most felt like DreK would be the best pick at the spot as Claiborne is likely to be gone. Some still feel that way, but Brockers could be very good we think.

His draft positioning is probably the early teens on.

I could see him going #10 to the Bills

He would would be a great fit in their 3-4 hybrid defense (they are still planning on that for 2012 right?) where he can play the LDE 5-tech along paired with Dareus and Williams along that line. There is no top 10 edge speed rusher in this class so if you want to improve yoru pass rush try and establish your down linemen so your second or third round edge rusher (ie Bruce Irvin, Cam Johnson etc) can get to the passer easier.

I need to read a little more on some changing philosophies on defense. Namely, Buffalo and Denver.

you guys have a lot of needs

and there may be a BPA available that the Bills absolutely love at 10
but relatively speaking, I think Brockers would be a great fit for you
I think Courtney Upshaw would be a great pick too

when I look at the Bills on defense, I don’t see that OLB pass rusher and on their DL, I see two very talented players but Brockers would make that front even better

on offense, I think an OL might be a great value for you, maybe WR because outside of Stevie nobody is a true playmaker
RB your set obviously QB you signed Fitz TE you got Chandler, but another 22 set guy would be great
OG or OT is a need

on D I see OLB, CB, DE
look good at ILB and FS

Right on all counts except OG. Urbik did a solid job there until he got moved to C, then got injured. Assuming the injury wasn’t so bad, I don’t see an issue. Maybe OG/C depth, but I doubt they’d go for anything other than that.

I can see the panthers taking him

Toss up between him and DreK

Brockers kind of reminds me of Marcus Stroud. Though he’s not as strong or polished at this point. He’s a power 4-3 DT for me. Raw…

Any chance you think he could slim down to the 285-290 range and be a good 4-3 LDE/3-4 DE?

Having him, Dareus, and Kyle Williams would be pretty sweet.

Da'Jon McKnight - WR, Nick Toon - WR, Marvin McNutt - WR, Dan Persa - QB, Russell Wilson - QB, Whitney Mercilus - DE, Melvin Ingram - DE/OLB, Jared Crick - 3/4 or 4/3 DE, Alshon Jeffery - WR, Michael Floyd - WR, Ryan Tannehill - QB

If the Eagles decide not to go LB in the 1st again for whatever reason (they never have under Reid)… I’d be happy with Brockers
