2012 NFL Draft: Dre Kirkpatrick charged with marijuana possession
One week Dre Kirkpatrick is winning a national championship for Alabama and the next he's getting charged with marijuana possession. According to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office, Kirkpatrick was busted early Tuesday morning for alleged possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana. There was a bond of $120 posted. No other details were revealed about the arrest.
Kirkpatrick, a likely high first-round pick, is listed at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds on his booking sheet. He's coming off an All-American season at cornerback for the Crimson Tide and was often tasked with shutting down the opposing team's top receiver.
The major question is how this may affect Kirkpatrick's NFL Draft status. Technically speaking, if he hasn't signed with an agent, he has until tomorrow to rescind his draft declaration. That's extremely unlikely, however.
The key for Kirkpatrick over the next few months is how he handles the interview process at workouts and the NFL Scouting Combine. With the rookie wage scale in place, NFL teams won't be putting as much money into a character risk. So if Kirkpatrick shows contrition and interviews well, he should still be a top 10 pick.
h/t to The Big Lead for pointing this one out.

I'd imagine this would hurt his value with the Redskins
I see that a he’s a popular mock to the ‘Skins at #6 if RG3 is off of the board. After losing Trent Williams and Fred Davis for 4 games due to marijuana-related issues (and Shanahan’s desire to bring in ‘character’ guys,) this would have to give them pause.
Perfect
Now he can fall to the Cowboys. Fingers crossed he looks to fall into the second and we can just trade up and still use the first on someone else.
Just coming here to post the same thing.

Heh you said "likely high"
If Dre gets drafted by the Bucs, he’s gonna have to share with Tanard “Stash” Jackson.
Time to shamelessly plug my book and short story!
Or he could just call up Sam Hurd
That guy is expanding everywhere now.

180 pounds? has he lost weight?
He wont fall any lower than Percy Harvin (#22, 2009), and Jimmy Smith (#27, 2011) each fell due to marijuana-related issues. I’ll go out on a limb and say he still goes top 20 (if his weigh in is over 190 pounds)
If he doesn’t put some weight on before the combine, I think he could easily fall out of the top 20 or even the 1st round. Getting arrested and not hitting the gym are both signs of potential character issues. Obviously teams will judge that when they talk to him, but he could definitely fall if teams don’t think he’s focused enough.
That would work as a justification defense

will fall to #32 to the Niners now?

I’m so surprised
If Penn State fans and alumni truly believe that chant that echoes throughout Beaver Stadium ("We are....") then it's time to show it.

sucks for him
losing money over something that’s not any more dangerous than over drinking and tobacco.
World Series attitude, champagne bottle life, nothing every changes so tonight is like tomorrow night.
He had a little bud on him?
I’m not seeing the problem.

Cincy would be a good landing spot
considering they don’t seem to care much about this kind of thing and they could use a starting CB.
