Cowboys First Round Mocks?

Hey MTD! I'm a long time reader. With the NFL Draft coming up I've been wondering who Dallas is going to take. I rarely was involved in the draft, but now I'm a big fan of it. Anyway the Cowboys have the 14th pick in the NFL Draft. That leaves them with a ton of options, especially adding in the fact that players are falling due to their off field mishaps.

These are the needs I think we need to fill.

OG, CB, DE, ILB, S

We may fill these needs through free agency or within the team. Though if not we have no choice to go through the draft.

Not going to profile them. I'm sure you know who each of these guys are.

David DeCastro OG

Melvin Ingram DE

Luke Kuechly ILB

Dre Kirkpatrick CB

Janoris Jenkins CB

Alfonzo Dennard CB

Discuss these with me please. I'll also set up a poll. Vote please. Thanks!

Have you thought about sending this in with your resume. I think they have openings here.

I already don't like Alfonzo Denard

so that’ll make the transition to hating him as a cowboy easier. Go with him.

Well you're being a troll in that you're completely wrong.

102.5 Rating 4,184 Yards 31 TD

Oh and vs. your Giants.

73.5 cmp%, 610 yards, 6 TD, 1 INT, 124.0 Rating. Not his fault for those losses. You’re wrong. Stop making every post I make about how you think Romo is so terrible. Get over it he’s a top 6 QB.

since when do stats win championships. cant win a championship with romo, that is my opinion

Try winning a Super Bowl with a horrible defense.

Oh and a QB with horrible stats. Your opinion is completely off.

Alright c'mon dude

Romo isn’t the best out there, but he’s a lot better than what some teams are dealing with. I don’t think he’s better than Manning, but he’s pretty damn good.

by #56 4life on Jan 20, 2012 5:56 PM EST up reply actions

I agree

I put him above Flacco, Ryan, and Schaub. But below Brees, Rodgers, Eli & Peyton, and Brady.

by #56 4life on Jan 20, 2012 7:04 PM EST up reply actions

yea, id rather have him than say sanchez, and what not.

but for me he’s in that third class in the “On the fall” part.
i have QB tiers like this
1. Peyton (when healthy)
2. Brady, Brees, Rodgers,
Eli (On the rise)
3. Ben,
Rivers (on the fall),
Dalton, Newton, Freeman, etc. (young stars on the rise)
4. Ryan, Schaub, Flacco, Romo (falling), Tebow (Rising), etc.

and i dont see any argument as to why they should be different.
Stats mean nothing to winning a championship.
and if thats the only argument they wanna put out their for romo, then whatever

u’ll notice that every QB in my first 3 tiers has won a championship (excluding the falling rivers)
and thats the only way u get into any of the top tiers

Super Bowls are won by teams.

Not individual players. Romo is falling yet Freeman who lost his last 7 games is rising, and Big Ben who lost to Tebow is on the rise. Also Ben is a great QB, but he has only won because of his defense. Tebow? LOL. His defense helps him. He won’t last 3 years in this league.

by DCyanks21 on Jan 21, 2012 4:47 PM EST up reply actions

Romo is one of the few players on the Cowboys that I like

I think he’s a top 10 QB too. It goes
Rodgers
Brees
Peyton
Brady
Eli
Big Ben
Romo
Flacco
Ryan
Rivers

by #56 4life on Jan 21, 2012 5:21 PM EST up reply actions

I like you. haha

Similar to my list, but I’d go…

Rodgers
Brady
Peyton
Brees
Eli
Romo
Rivers
Ben
Stafford
Ryan

by DCyanks21 on Jan 21, 2012 5:26 PM EST up reply actions

lol, if ur gonna put him in teh top 10.

its not gonna be over stafford, ben, rivers, and probably not ryan either.
c’mon now. thats just homerism at its finest.

Do you honestly think romo has what it takes to lead his team to a SB? do you?

freeman is young and talented.

romo is getting older, and not as gifted as freeman.
romo has a better supporting cast than romo
big ben who played injured and who’s defense got torn up by tebow is a top qb, and i hate ben more than any QB in the league. ben is a winner, and while i agree, he is still a winner.
Tebow is clutch and gets it done when he has to.
romo does not.
so yea, tebow over romo

I'm not convinced

DeCastro or Kirkpatrick will be there at 14.

Kirkpatrick was caught smoking weed so he might fall.

DeCastro could possibly be taken from 8-13, but he’s still a possibility.

by DCyanks21 on Jan 19, 2012 11:15 PM EST up reply actions

Don't get me wrong

I’d love either, and I hope I’m wrong. I think DeCastro goes to the Chiefs at 11, and Kirkpatrick goes to either the Jags or Carolina. I would seriously get sports happy if either of them fell, tho.

That's not trolling.

That’ an honest opinion backed up with truth.

I personally rather pick up Carr free agency, or draft Gillmore or Minnifield in round 2.

I don't think Gillmore or Minnifield make it to your spot in round 2.

Maybe Gillmore, but def not Minnifield. And I’d rather yall didn’t grab Carr in FA, I’d prefer yall’s DB’s to keep being terrible lol.

by #56 4life on Jan 21, 2012 5:22 PM EST up reply actions

Funny because Gillmore is ranked ahead of Minnifield according to CBS.

ILB? really?

the cowboys have invested enough lately in ILB..you have this need above OLB, SS, and DT? So i can only assume you feel spencer is overpaid to stay, ratliff stays at nose tackle, and Bruce Carter isnt the answer..hope your wrong…move ratliff over to DE, draft a TRUE Nose in the second or third round…Draft Dre K in the first or Decastro even if u have to move up…its ok to draft for need in first round, aslong as your willing to move up to get it..sign Brandon Carr and draft Decastro or Sign Nicks and draft Kirpatrick..flip flop Smith n Free, draft a safety / Olb in second rd (best available ) hopefully Barron slides. hatcher, ratliff at ends..Victor Butler rushing on ratliffs side….lotta upside

Who do we have?

Sean Lee and Bruce Carter? James and Brooking are likely gone after this year. Lee is amazing, but Carter is unproven. So if Kuechly is there you could make a case we take him. Top ranked ILB.

Personally I love Melvin Ingram. I’m a fan of helping the secondary by pressuring the quarterback. So having Ingram along with DeMarcus Ware? Could be scary, and couldn’t hurt. Look at the Giants with their plethora of pass rushers. Lissemore, Brent, Hatcher, and Butler have tremendous potential. Sometimes that doesn’t work out though.

Been thinking about the possible free agents. Carr has been a big favorite of mine. I would prefer signing a pro CB rather than a pro OG. Rookie CB’s take a couple seasons to learn to play the position at the NFL level. Patrick Peterson had an okay year, and Prince just looked terrible. I’ll give him that he missed the first seven weeks. An offensive lineman seems to transition better to the NFL. Just common sense.

Agree about flip flopping Smith and Free. If we had more time I think we would of done that last year. It will drastically help the offense.

and fills in a need. I’m glad the rest of the NFL likes reaching.

if kuechly goes

to either the eagles, cowboys, or jets, i will be so pissed…im a big BC fan/kuechly fan as well as a giants fan…i wont him to go to a team i can somewhat root for, i mean after all he wont be around at the 32nd pick

I'm interested to know who MTD thinks will fall to the Jets, but I don't want to make a new post over it

needs: OLB/DE, RT, FS, WR, some say ILB or QB.

Decastro would be ideal

If he’s there it’s a no brainer. J. Jenkins at 14 would draw a lot of criticism, but I’d be fine with it. I also like Ingram, but Dennard, not so much.
