Ohio State vs. Florida; Gator Bowl NFL Draft watch notes

At long last, the hellacious season for Ohio State is coming to an end in the Gator Bowl against Florida (1 p.m., ESPN2). What started at this time last year with tattoos and suspensions, ends in 6-6 disappointment but a new head coach in Urban Meyer. The Gators, his former team, also come into today's game with a 6-6 record.

Despite the poor play as a whole, both teams are rich in NFL Draft prospects. One sleeper I've been following all year is Gators defensive tackle Jaye Howard. People are going to take notice of Howard this offseason. He improved throughout the year, especially in run defense. Howard got into better shape this season and it shows in his ability to finish off plays.

Gator playmakers Jeff Demps and Chris Rainey wilIl be specialty players in the NFL, but both will get a chance solely because of their speed. Demps is the better of the two and can be used a wide receiver and running back. He's like a smaller version of Dexter McCluster.

Star-divide

Ohio State offensive tackle Mike Adams will get over-drafted because there is so much need for left tackles in the NFL. Adams has great size and is at his best when he drop and engulf rushers in pass protection.

The importance of a good bowl game can be overblown, but Buckeyes wide receiver DeVier Posey needs a good one. In the two games he played this season following suspension, Posey showed athleticism and strong playmaking ability. He profiles as a good No. 2 receiver who could be drafted in the third- or fourth-round.

Center Mike Brewster will have to be put on the right offensive line scheme, and if he is, he should be a good starter in the NFL.

2013 NFL Draft watch: Redshirt sophomore Jelani Jenkins can make plays all over the field and can be a terror in pass coverage. He has an NFL body already and will only get better with another year in school.

For next year, also keep an eye on Ohio State defensive tackle John Simon. He's undersized for a tackle but is relentless and fast.
