4 Round NFL Mock Draft
I never mock trades but in this scenario I am going to mock one. The Redskins are going to give up their 1st, 2nd, and 4th round picks to move up from #6 to #2. Also note that this was written on 1/21, before the Championship games were played so the order of the draft reflects that. The final four picks were determined by Regular season record. Note – because the order is wrong at the end I decided to forgo explanations for the final three rounds and just get this published.
Round 1
1. Indianapolis (2-14) – Team Needs: QB, OG, OC, 2CB, WR, SS, TE, DE, LB, RB – Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford – Is an explanation really needed here?
2. TRADE – Washington (5-11) – QB, WR, LG, ILB, RT, CB, NT, TE, OC, SS, K, Rush LB – Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor – I really think the Redskins are going to move up to #2 and get their franchise QB. Griffin is an extraordinary talent and will instantly revitalize the Redskins offense.
3. Minnesota (3-13) – LT, CB, WR, S, OG, 2LB, DT, FB, RB3 – Matt Kalil, OT, USC – The Vikings are praying that someone trades up to the No. 2 spot to take Griffin because that will cause Kalil to slide to them. The Vikings are in desperate need of a LT and Kalil is the best LT prospect to come around in years.
4. Cleveland (4-12) – QB, WR, RT, DE, CB, OLB, RB, OG, FS, DT, K – Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State – The Browns get screwed in a trade up for Griffin because then they are stuck with Colt McCoy. However, giving McCoy a weapon like Blackmon will allow the Browns to truly judge McCoy’s skills.
5. Tampa Bay (4-12) – 2CB, 2LB, RT, WR, OC, RB, LG, FB, DT, QB, K – Morris Claiborne, CB, LSU – This pick is a no brainer. The Bucs have a massive need at CB and Claiborne is the BPA.
6. St. Louis (2-14) – 2OT, 2WR, 2OLB, FS, CB, DT, OC, RB, FB – Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford– The Rams need to give Bradford more weapons but also better protection. Due to the depth and talent of the WR class, I think the Rams elect to take a franchise LT in Martin.
7. Jacksonville (5-11) – QB, WR, 2CB, DE, FS, RT, P, OC, LB – Alshon Jeffery, WR, South Carolina – The Jags will only take a QB if Griffin falls to them. If not, they will look to give Gabbert a true #1 WR like Alshon Jeffery.
8. Miami (6-10) – QB, RT, Rush LB, NT, FS, RG, CB, TE, DE, ILB – Courtney Upshaw, OLB, Alabama – The Dolphins would love to land Griffin or Martin but since both are off the board, they will elect to add a pass rusher to their front 7. Outside of Cameron Wake, they have nobody who can rush the passer and Upshaw happens to be the best Rush LB in the draft.
9. Carolina (6-10) – DT, CB, LB, RT, 2S, RG, WR, K – Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama – The Panthers would love to land Kirkpatrick here and it looks like they should be able to. Kirkpatrick is a great talent and has the size/speed to become an elite corner. Getting busted for weed should not hurt his draft stock too much.
10. Buffalo (6-10) – 2 Rush LB, WR, LT, CB, QB, DE, TE – Whitney Mercilus, OLB, Illinois – The Bills must add a few pass rushers to their defense and Mercilus is the best pure pass rusher in this class. He will have to transition from DE to OLB but I believe the Bills run some 4 DL sets so he could also play DE in those sets.
11. Kansas City (7-9) – QB, RT, NT, CB, OG/OC, TE, RB, Rush LB, ILB – Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa –Reiff is a very good tackle prospect and with no good QBs here, the Chiefs will look to upgrade the RT spot.
12. Seattle (7-9) – QB, RDE, OG, DT, LDE, CB, RB – Quinton Coples, DE, North Carolina – I would imagine the Seahawks try to trade down here since Coples does not fit in their scheme well. However, Coples is a versatile prospect that can likely adjust and become a dominant force for the Seahawks.
13. Arizona (8-8) – RT, WR, ILB, DE, Rush LB, RG, CB, QB, NT, K, P – Mohammed Sanu, WR, Rutgers – The Cardinals need to add a playmaker across from Larry Fitzgerald and Sanu is an elite WR prospect. With his route running, size, hands, and speed he can become a great compliment to Fitzgerald.
14. Dallas (8-8) – CB, OC, OG, S, DE, OLB, ILB, Backup QB, P (if McBriar not resigned) – David DeCastro, OG, Stanford – The Cowboys would love to get Kirkpatrick here but if he is gone, DeCastro should be the pick. DeCastro is the best guard prospect to come around in a long time and will be a huge upgrade for the Cowboys.
15. Philadelphia (8-8) – LB, DT, CB, S, WR, TE – Luke Kuechly, ILB, Boston College – The Eagles have a massive need at LB and Kuechly is the best LB in the class. He is a tackling machine with great knowledge of the game.
16. New York Jets (8-8) – OLB, RT, FS, SS, RG, LG, WR, DE – Nick Perry, DE/OLB, USC – The Jets need to add a pass rusher to their defense and Perry is a fantastic prospect. His value is all over the place but I think he ends up being drafted in the top 20 so this is not really a reach.
17. Cincinnati – from Oakland (8-8) – CB, RB, S, OG, WR, DE, DT, Strong LB – Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama – The Bengals are one elite RB away from being a dominant offense. Landing the best RB in the class at 17 will give them the stud RB they lacked all season. With 2 first round picks, they can elect to get a CB with their second 1st round pick.
18. San Diego (8-8) – OLB, SS, OT, OG, TE, CB, NT, ILB, RB, WR, QB – Cordy Glenn, OG, Georgia – Glenn might be a slight reach here but no other position of need has any value here. The Chargers would likely try hard to trade down.
19. Chicago (8-8) – WR1, OT, CB, DE, LB, OC, S, DT, QB – Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame – The Bears have to get Cutler a true #1 WR and luckily for them, they should have a god shot at landing one of the big 4 WRs in this class. Floyd has great size and speed and character concerns drop him here. However, with a good combine, he could become the 2nd WR off the board.
20. Tennessee (9-7) – OC, 2OG, DE, 2S, Weak LB, CB, WR – Peter Konz, OC/OG, Wisconsin – The Titans have a huge need on the interior OL and Konz is the 2nd best interior OL prospect in this year’s draft. He is a versatile prospect and would likely start immediately.
21. Cincinnati* (9-7) – CB, S, OG, WR, DE, DT, Strong LB – Alfonzo Dennard, CB, Nebraska - Dennard is a very good corner prospect that would fill the Bengals biggest need. Dennard, like Prince Amukamara, excels in man coverage and is a very good tackler.
22. Cleveland – from Atlanta* (10-6) – QB, RT, DE, CB, OLB, RB, OG, FS, DT, K – Chase Minnifield, CB, Virginia – The Browns would love to fill a bigger need here but nobody at their top 3 needs is good value. Instead they take a very good zone corner (the best in the draft) and toss him across from Joe Haden.
23. Detroit* (10-6) – CB, OLB, OC, OG, LT – Janoris Jenkins, CB, North Alabama – The Lions would love to land Peter Konz but with him off the board they take a chance on Janoris Jenkins. Jenkins is incredibly talented but will need to keep focused and stay out of trouble.
24. Pittsburgh* (12-4) – OG, ILB, NT, S, K, CB, OT, QB, RB – Donta Hightower, ILB, Alabama – The Steelers have 3 major needs and will probably look to fill them all in this draft since they have no cap room. The ILB class is weak outside the top 3 so they will probably take an ILB in round one and hope that a guard and a NT fall to them in rounds 2 and 3.
25. Denver* (8-8) – CB, RB, LG/RT, DT, WR – Devon Still, DT/DE, Penn State – The Broncos have said they will take BPA and Still is by far the BPA. He had a great season and might end up being a top 15 pick but I could not find a spot to put him.
26. Houston* (10-6) – CB, WR, NT, S, OG, LB – Kendall Wright, WR, Baylor – Houston must find a WR to put across from Andre Johnson and Wright is the perfect type of WR. He is blazing fast, very shifty and reminds me of Antonio Brown.
27. New England – from New Orleans* (13-3) – WR, CB, DT, OLB, S, RG, DE – Michael Brockers, DT/DE, LSU - The Patriots will look to address the defensive side of the ball early and often this year. Brockers is the BPA and fills a need. He can play 4-3 DT or 3-4 DE which makes him a good fit for New England, since they play both a 3 man and a 4 man front.
28. Green Bay* (15-1) – OLB, RB, CB, DE, S, LT, OC – Vinny Curry, DE/OLB, Marshall – Curry is a slight reach here but he fills the Packers biggest need. He is one of the top pass rushers in the class and will be a good pairing with Clay Matthews.
29. New York Giants* (9-7) – ILB, OG, OT, CB, TE, OC, RB – Vontaze Burfict, ILB, Arizona State – Obviously the Giants won’t be picking in this spot anymore and thus Burfict will likely be off the board because the Ravens will likely nab him. However, Jerry Reese would love to land an athletic ILB like Burfict and hope that the strong locker room can get him in place.
30. Baltimore* (12-4) – ILB, OC, LT, FS, OG, WR (big), CB – Mark Barron, S, Alabama – The Ravens likely need to replace Ed Reed and the only instant starter quality safety in the draft is Mark Barron. Barron is a great prospect and does everything well.
31. San Francisco* (13-3) – WR, CB, OC, RG, RT – Dwight Jones, WR, North Carolina - In their loss to the Giants, the 49ers showed how futile their WR position is. They need a big target that can help out Vernon Davis and Jones is just the guy. He has the potential to be a #1 WR.
32. New England* (13-3) – WR, CB, DT, OLB, S, RG– Stephon Gilmore, CB, South Carolina – The Patriots can’t have WR’s on the field playing corner anymore and adding a talent like Gilmore will help their defense a lot.
Atlanta -> Cleveland: Julio Jones
New Orleans -> New England: Mark Ingram
Oakland -> Cincinnati: Carson Palmer
Round 2
1. St. Louis (2-14) – OT, 2WR, 2OLB, FS, CB, DT, OC, RB, FB – Nick Toon, WR, Wisconsin
2. Indianapolis (2-14) – OG, OC, 2CB, WR, SS, TE, DE, LB, RB – Josh Robinson, CB, Central Florida
3. Minnesota (3-13) – CB, WR, S, OG, 2LB, DT, FB, RB3 – Marvin McNutt, WR, Iowa

Great draft for the Panthers
If Kirk doesn’t straighten up though I would watch for Zach Brown at the Senior Bowl/Combine

youve got the bills taking ricky wagner and devin taylor. i thought both of them were returning to school, or am i missing something?
Its fun to think quarterback, but i think the odds of nix taking one in the first are close to 0%.
I will check. Give me a minute

As a Bills fan...
Think the Mercilus pick may be a bit of a reach, but its such a big need that I’m ok with it, and I am thinking we’ll be playing mostly 4 man fronts too.
I really do dig Tommy Streeter, but think he may need time to develop and we need more impact from our early picks. In this scenario I’d take Mike Adams or Zebrie at our second round pick as Left Tackle is a big need.
Then in the third I’d take the CB from Iowa, Prater, another big need – and he’s a kid who can play right away.
Then the Orson Charles pick is money, think he can play a variety of roles in an offense, sort of a Aaron Hernandez type.
funny that people have the Giants picking Sanders in the first
if its there in the 2nd, I really actually have no problem with it I think its a decent value. I also love the Polk and Green picks, really really good job there. Polk is a complete back, and I think Jacobs is done so we could use a new guy there or at least some competition for Da"Rel Scott. And Green is a 6"6 athletic freak. i think in the end he goes much higher then that tho, especially if he gains about 15lbs and runs really fast, people are gonna think Jimmy Graham with him.
Hate the Burfict pick, I think he’s a nipplehead to the Nth degree and doubt that any team is dumb enough to risk him there. Dwight Jones is good value there, so is Zach Brown. Mark Barron would be pretty good too, especially if the Giants are tired of Antrel “At the end of the day I still have a piano on my back” Rolle.
Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
I thought about Brown at that pick. Tough choice there.
With regards to Green, I think he will end up in the 2nd or 3rd round but I just couldn’t find a spot for him. That always happens with one position in each of my mocks where I just find better fits at other positions. And I don’t really get where this whole “Zebrie Sanders is a first round pick” crap came from. He is a mid second to early 3rd round prospect right now. Lastly, Polk is one of my favorite players in this draft. He has potential to be a starting back in a couple years.

even though I hate the first round pick for the Giants, I love the rest of this draft.
Nice job, SHAS.

The Giants love athleticism but they also like discipline
They traded Shockey because he became a clubhouse problem. It’s unlikely we are looking at Burfict. We do not value linebackers.
Giants like big OL like the Steelers. I think Sanders is too small.
Polk and Green are good values where you had us take them, so good job there.
2012 NYG mock - 1: Chase Minnifield CB, 2: Kevin Zeitler G, 3: A.J. Jenkins, WR, 4: Neiko Thorpe S, 5: Brandon Bolden RB, 6: Rishard Matthews WR, 6: some random LB, 7: BPA
That's one of the best Jets drafts I've seen....
but it very highly improbable. I don’t think there is any doubt that Mike Adams will push himself into the top 25 picks, so he obviously won’t be available at the Jets pick in the second round. I like the Perry pick. Brandon Taylor is also a good pick.

I would love Mike Adams to fall down to us in the 2nd round
Though one note seton hall I would give is that LG isn’t a need, and that I think the Jets would be better getting a WR in the 4th at that point. But other wise I’d be happy with that draft.

Nice job of addressing positions of need, but I don’t like the order in which you did it. I would not draft a WR in the first 2 rounds, especially with the depth at that position in both the draft and in free agency.
I love the Kalil pick. In round 2, I would rather address the secondary. According to your board the best DB’s available were Markelle Martin and Casey Hayward. I would also be tempted to take Zach Brown or Jerel Worthy. Either way, defense is the way to go for the Vikings in round 2.
In round 3 I might be tempted to take a WR, but the way your board worked out, there are none worth it. Depending on what happend in the 2nd, I would look at Josh Chapman, Coryell Judie, Harrison Smith or Kawaan Short.
Its just too bad that Jordan White wasn’t on the board for the Vikes in the 4th. I would consider Ryan Broyles here. But I might also look at Donnie Fletcher or Lonnie Edwards.

I agree with this
Plus many people have mcnutt going in the third round. That would be a great pick up there. Personally I think he’ll be mid to late second though. I’d be ok with a reciever for our second round pick, but mcnutt is a bit of a reach IMO. I’d prefer a CB here as like you mentioned this year will have many options at WR.
Whatever happens this year as far as WR’s go I’m just praying we dont take Blackmon in the first.
by reebs on Jan 24, 2012 1:39 AM EST via mobile up reply actions
Especially now that McNutt's official height is 6'2"
And not 6’4" like in the Iowa program said. He’s a possession receiver. We already have one in Michael Jenkins. Don’t get me wrong, if McNutt is there with our comp. pick in the 4th, I’d probably roll the dice. But the 2nd is too early. Especially with the sad state that the defense is currently in.

Jags
Let me preface with you having the needs out of order and big time. QB s not even a need unless it is of the backup variety. Not sure why we need 2 CBs or a FS either.
ROUND #1:
The Jags will only take a QB if Griffin falls to them. If not, they will look to give Gabbert a true #1 WR like Alshon Jeffery.Wrong!!! They will not take a QB unless Luck fell to them. As for the pick, I am not a fan. As of right now there are too many questions about Jeffery to warrant him being the #7 pick. I still see Kirkpatrick as an option although fellow Jaguars fans might disagree. I would venture to say Rieff would likely be the pick.
ROUND #2: Another bad pick. Hosley is a nice talent but he is nowhere near the best layer to be had there. I would take Josh Norman over him if CB was the pick, but Kelechi Osemele could also be a very real possibility at the pick. Same can be said for Melvin Ingram and a bunch of the WRs available.
ROUND #3: Interesting selection although his legal issues might eliminate him from consideration at the pick. I would suggest Ricky Wagner as the pick, but he is not even entering the draft. Personally, I think Shea McClellin, Coby Fleener and Harrison Smith are more likely selections.
ROUND #4: Not great pick either. Once again, he may fill a need(one which more than likely will be filled by this point in the draft) and yet is not BAP or close to it. I notice Brian Quick has not been taken and while he will be long gone by this pick, you can slot him n here as the pick. Or you can look at other WRs like Jordan White and Chris Givens, or look at other positions and players like Donnie Fletcher, David Molk, and Ladarius Green

here is what you have to do
at the Jaguars pick look at BAP on your board. If he has legal problems, he likely is not the pick. If he plays a position of absolutely 0 need for the team, also figure he will not be the pick. When you get to the first player w/ good character and plays a position of moderate to great need for the Jags, you have a good pick to give t the Jaguars.(In later rounds, the aspect of need could potentiallt be ignored and as long as the player is BAP on your board and has good character, he could be the pick.)

Colts
2: Not a fan of Robinson here. I think it’s a bit of a reach. When I think of 34, I think who fell out of the first round. That’s not Robinson. I think Thompson offers a much better value.
3: Zeitler is ok. I also think this could be a spot for a wideout or a tight end like Fleener.
4: Hate Harris. I don’t think he’ll amount to much. I’d much rather see Donnie Fletcher or one of the Iowa corners.
Agreed
Don’t like anything after Luck really. How about
2. Thompson or Hosley
3. Trumaine Johnson, Fleener, or Vlachos
4. Joe Adams or Lucas Nix
2: Thomson is the better pick. 34 is high for Hosley but Thompson is a first round value.
3: Not seen enough tape on Johnson to make a judgement but could be ok. Fleener is good but I think 3 is a bit high for Vlachos, though I wouldn’t be upset.
4: Adams would be ok, same with Nix but I’d also love Donnie Fletcher or Broyles.
Cowboys
First round pick is perfect. Martin is an ok pick in the second, but IMO you should either take Ingram, Irvin, or Poe with that pick since I think they’d be rated higher on the board, I don’t think any of these guys will be there in round 2 but since its your mock we should take one of them. If we go DeCastro in the first I don’t expect us to spend another draft pick on the interior line since our defense needs some major upgrades and I expect us to pick up a FA center. I’d target Jamell Fleming in the 3rd round, he isn’t anywhere in the draft btw. In the 4th Crick is a great pick, he was considered a borderline first rounder before his injury so not gonna complain. Overall good mock and props for a 4 round mock.

Yeah...
No way the Cowboys pass on Ingram, Irvin, Poe or Cox in the 2nd. Or Fleming in the 3rd. Crick in the 4th is solid. I guess based on this draft the Cowboys draft would be:
DeCastro
Ingram (if Spencer goes)/Poe or Cox if Spencer stays
Fleming
Crick
Cardinals
1: This is the first I’ve seen Sanu mocked this high. In this scenario, I would definitely go with DeCastro if he’s still available.
3: ILB isn’t nearly as big of a need as some people are making it out to be. D Washington is quickly turning into a stud. Lenon may be getting older, but he was the captain of the defense and played very solid football. Stew Bradley took a little bit to switch from the 43 in Philly to the 34 in the desert, but he started to come on at the end of the season.
4: I don’t know anything about this particular tackle prospect, but I’m sure whoever it is would be an improvement on the current OLine.
Faith Focus Finish
For the 4th round tackle
He is a good prospect that does everything at least average but is not great at anything. He is likely a RT in the NFL and could be a potential starter but more likely, he will be a quality backup

Great Broncos Draft!
I would be super excited with this draft. Addressed a bunch of needs and did a great job of BPA. I hope it plays out this way :)
In Tebow I trust
More Broncos
I also really enjoy the draft.
However, based on comments last year from Elway and Xanders after the draft. They typically rate Defensive tackles way lower than they should be rated. So if you are trying to actually predict what each team will do I would say leave DT’s off the broncos first rounder at least.
I normally would but Still was just such incredible value there

I hope Elway and Xanders see that too
I think it would help greatly to have an impact player next to Bunkley in the middle.
I thought they rated certain DTs lower than other people rated them did and it was not necessarily the position that they under rated. One of the comments was about them looking to trade back into the 1st to take Fairley who they rated highly and he got taken a little earlier than they could trade back up to.

Good draft for Denver.
The only thing I would change is…I’d take Boykins over Prater in the 3rd round.
As someone who played against Jerrett Boykin in high school
I hope you dont mean him….If you mean Brandon Boykin im all for it….but Jerrett Boykin was soft off the line in high school…i wasnt the most talented player on the field by any stretch but when i played man on Boykin all i had to do was shoot my hands into his armpits and he wasnt going anywhere…no thanks, dont need that on my Broncos
Love this draft for the Lions...
best one I’ve seen so far. Good combo of BPA and filling needs.

Titans...
While it’s possible they use either of their first two picks on an interior OL, it’s highly unlikely they use BOTH, especially factoring in their recent draft history with OL in general. DL (and especially DE) is a pretty big need as well for this team, and one I see them going early at moreso than interior OL.

I will be honest with you. I completely forgot about Brian Quick
for some reason he was not on my draft board and when creating my mocks I just look at my excel sheet and cross people off as I put them in mock spots and somehow he slipped my mind when I created the list. That is also why early in the process you see me mock people that never declared because I forget to remove them from the excel sheet. But by the time April roles around, I see Quick going somewhere from the 2nd to 4th round. To early to tell now. Depends on how he does at the combine and pro days.

I find it funny how a Giant fan is judging QBs based on one season
you must have forgotten that Eli had a pretty crappy rookie year. I guess the Giants should have totally ditched him and moved on by taking a QB in the first round of the 2005 draft.

not sure what you are talking about
he put up 2 very good seasons at Missouri prior to entering the draft. In some respects, if you take out the rushing element to Newton, Gabbert had the better 2010, so I think you might want to reconsider your opinion by doing a bit of research first.

Good job,by the way...and i just noticed you got us a TE in round 4...Green is supposedly a freak
I’ll even bet his stock rises because of all the TE hype this year(Jimmy Graham).
Another note and if any Giants fans see this they will confirm that we will not take a LB in the first 3 rounds almost no matter what,so don’t bother giving us one there.LOL
I know where your coming from but outside of Clint Sintim(who did not produce/was injured/miscast in the 4-3 in the first place) Jerry Reese DOES NOT VALUE LB’S as high as other positions and if someone from one of those positions is even remotely close to the same caliber,he will not take that LB.
I’d even like to be wrong about this and like a few LB’s like Lavonte David, for example.
I think we could take one with extreme speed and skills in pass coverage, but that’s about it.
Also to avoid having to correct the draft order more than once before the season ends, just put the Giants @ 32 and be done with it!Bevieve that!

Steeler's Pick
As a fellow Steeler’s fan, I think you’re dreaming if you think Poe falls to us in Round 2. If we want him we’ll need to take him in Round 1 and I’d rather have him over Hightower. I think we need to draft ILB but not in Round 1, Timmons and Sylvester could start if Farrior retires. Worilds could even get some PT there.
From a player perspective, you’re the first person who I’ve seen drop Zach Brown into Round 2 and I like it. He’s overrated by most websites. Mark Barron should get draft much higher than 28 but he won’t start climbing until after the Combine.
Overall good job w/ the draft, I know these things can be tough.
Add Poe
I, too, doubt that Poe will fall that far.
I think it’s tricky to balance your wishes as a fan with real-world team needs. A Bengals’ fan posted one recently where you could tell he was reverse engineering his draft so that Cincy would end up with Richardson and DeCastro or something like that.
Obviously, your bias lies with the Steelers and this draft reflects that.
Truth shall be known.

Honestly speaking, I don't really like Poe as a Steelers player
and it just so happened that once the Chiefs passed him up in the 2nd round, nobody else had a need for him. I don’t give a crap who gets who in a mock draft because in the end, that is all it is, a mock draft. What benefits do I get from giving the Steelers a good mock draft? My goal in putting out these mock drafts is to be as accurate as possible and in every mock draft I publish, there are always some big fallers that I can’t find a spot for. In this scenario they were Poe, Ingram, Green, Allen, and Quick. It happens sometimes.

mmm...hmmmm...sure
It was just a coincidence. But then it was YOU, not KC, who passed over Poe on behalf of the Chiefs. You don’t really like Poe much. Then what about this?
Round 3 Pick 32: Dontari Poe, NT, Memphis – Poe is a big boy that is an ideal 2 down NT. I don’t believe we need to spend a first or second round pick on a NT since we still have two years left with Big Snack. Pairing Poe’s run stopping abilities with McLendon’s abilities as a pass rusher at NT will stabilize our NT spot for years to come.
Or this…
Kansas City (7-9) – QB, RT, NT, OG/OC, TE, RB, Rush LB, ILB – Dontari Poe, NT, Memphis – Poe is the top NT in the draft and fills one of the Chiefs biggest needs.
Or this…
Casey Hampton had another solid year but he is aging and it is time for him to be replaced (not immediately, but we need to get a replacement on the roster). McClendon had a good season but he is a situational NT at best and we need a 1st and 2nd down NT to help the run D. Luckily there are 3 very good options this year in Dontari Poe, Alameda Ta’amu, and Josh Chapman. Poe will require a 1st round pick and if Kuechly and DeCastro are not there in round 1, he could be the pick. Ta’amu had only an average year and therefore his stock fell to round 2. If we don’t get Poe, Ta’amu would be a great option in round 2. Chapman will be a round 2 to round 3 player and I would only take him in round 3.
Dude, it’s okay to admit you slanted your mock in your team’s favor. It’s no biggie. We’re just fans. And like you said, it’s just a mock.
Seems like your attitude toward Poe has evolved over time – nothing wrong with that. In December, you thought Ta’Amu was better than Poe, now you don’t. No shame in that. Just shows you have an open mind.
Truth shall be known.

I'll take it
I can always hope for more than 1 trade after this one, and I could always think of other players I’d take in each slot. The fact is, this is pretty realistic for us. I never thought we’d get a deal for the Browns 1st rounders, and the Skins are the next most likely trade partners.
Also the positions are pretty good. I like that we got 2 O-linemen, and 2 OLBs. I’m gonna get hammered for this, but I would sub a DT, like Dontari Poe, for Toon, and Cliff Harris instead of Jordan White. That’s just me in that I think we resign Lloyd and need other areas more than yet another WR.
Wolf. Wolfgang Wolf
you changed your mind on Harris?
in this draft, I would go:
1: David DeCastro
2: Zach Brown
2: Kelechi Osemele
3: Josh Chapman
4: Cliff Harris
4: Ryan Broyles
Although, like you said, we could argue which players to take in each slot, this is pretty realistic.

yeah in the 4th
Harris would be a steal. I never thought his pot smokin was a real problem. He’s an absolute playmaker and a shut down corner. We need both. BTW I absolutely would be happy with your picks in those positions as well.
Wolf. Wolfgang Wolf
I would change a few things
1: Martin or Rieff OT
2: Brown or Ronnell Lewis OLB
2: Brandon Thompson DT
3: Chris Polk RB
4: Cliff Harris CB
4: Molk OC
I think this would help fill a lot of our needs in the first 4 rounds.

nods head…..Rieff may not be available at that first spot, but if he were…. I do like him. remember we have a center on the roster from last year named Tim Barnes from Missouri. I'm hoping
some real steam gets going behind the “we want a LT and Kalil is f***ing sick” mentality so:
A) We get Kalil (if Fisher wants a LT, he should go for the best) or
B) We get a more lopsided trade than seen in recent history, with the value of draft picks still uncertain.
PS-I’m with you on not taking a WR late but for me it’s because we don’t need average WR’s (we have like 8 of them), we need a #1 Sam can get some chemistry and grow old with.
All you need in this life is ignorance and confidence, and then success is sure.

I'd take Broyles

Steelers
I love our draft and would pop a boner if it fell like this. However, I have one non-Steeler related issue…no way is Ingram falling out of the top 25. The kid is a baller and is probably going between 10 and 20.
"If you havin' dragon problems I feel bad for you son, I got 99 arrows but my knee took one."
Probably but he weighed in at over 270 pounds at the Senior Bowl
which means he is likely strictly a 4-3 DE. I know that LaMarr Woodley had the same thing and fell to the 2nd round and worked out great but the fact is, there are not a lot of 270+ pound 3-4 OLBs. The combine will be huge for Ingram as he will have to prove he has the athleticism for the 3-4 OLB position. If he does, he will be a top 25 pick. If not, he could fall to the 2nd round just like Woodley.

He reminds me of a somewhat shorter but more athletic Tamba Hali, and because of that I just can’t see him making it out of the top 20 picks. Luckily I’ve had the opportunity to watch him play and he has a great motor, amazing athletic ability for someone pushing 280lbs, and on top of that he is good at not only rushing the passer but also at stopping the run and dropping into coverage (because of his good athleticism). I can’t lie though, he is my favorite prospect hands down so maybe I’m a bit biased, but I have a strong feeling that this kid is going to be putting up 10+ sack seasons in a few seasons.
Btw, I think he is too short to play 4-3 DE.
"If you havin' dragon problems I feel bad for you son, I got 99 arrows but my knee took one."
Btw, I think he is too short to play 4-3 DE.
And so in lies the problem of an NFL GM. Too short to play 4-3 DE and too big (possibly) to play 3-4 OLB. He really needs a good combine or he will be a 2nd round pick

If he’s a second round pick then he will be the steal of the draft lol.
"If you havin' dragon problems I feel bad for you son, I got 99 arrows but my knee took one."
Just like Lamarr Woodley was
However, the concerns over him might make him fall. I do think he is going to be a great NFL player no matter where he is picked.

A decent draft for Dallas.
If Dallas signs a G in FA I doubt they pick DeCastro. However, it would not upset me if they take him, but I would rather see a DT or a trade back for a pick or two!

Yea I'm sure the Rams will pass up on the best 4-3 OLB in Z.Brown to draft another possession WR in the 2nd
And Ronnell Lewis won’t be the next pick it would be Brandon Thompson, L. David OLB, F/ Cox DT or some CB and no we won’t select 2 WR’s again so this Whit kid is a no-go.

Bengals
Richardson – Love this pick. If he’s there, they take him. Period
Dennard – I’m 50/50 on this guy. He seems a little undersized to be a #1 corner at a generous 5’10"
Stephen Hill – really feels like a reach in the second round. If I counted right he’s the 11th receiver off the board in the first 53 picks.
Miller – Fills a need, but I’d like to see them go after a G in the second if they don’t get one in the first.
Reyes – If they don’t resign Pat Sims, they’ll need another DT. Reyes seems like a good prospect.

I agree
Overall well done but I would take a guard in round 2 before we take another wr and a wr later we should have Jordan Shipley back next year so not as big of a need. Having said that well done

Bengals
I’d bet money that the Bengals don’t pick ANY WRs this year and instead find a guy in FA. With Gresham, Green, and Shipley coming back, and a huge number of quality FA WRs, I would sincerely doubt that we get any WRs, especially not in round 2.
As for the rest of the draft, our cincy jungle resident draft expert has stephon gilmore as a fast riser on draft boards and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him go at 21 if he has a great combine.
Gilmore is a gutsy call
It’ll be interesting to see where he ends up in the draft because from what I’ve seen so far, Joe is on a bit of an island with that call. I’ll be rooting for him to do well at the combine.
I’m not so sure that they get a FA WR. After three debacles in TO, Antonio Bryant and Coles, you’d think they’d be a little gun-shy in that department. I wouldn’t mind if they picked up a guy like Meachem though.

Who came up with all those needs for the colts?
Half of them don’t make any sense. I’d say there needs are CB, 4-3 NT, SS, and OG. That’s it. Positions like WR and C aren’t needed right now, but you could draft a backup/ successor.
To be honest, Walter Football is where I get most of my need information
And If you read his analysis on them, you will see that a lot of them are “future replacement” or “in case a FA is not resigned” etc. Just go to his site and click on the “Team Needs” link and read what he has to say. Because unless you guys help me out, I just use what he says and what I watched during the season

"Walter football...need info"
In that case I’d have to say for the Vikings you should add TE as a need. Probably around 6th or 7th priority maybe higher. Kleinsasser was used as a TE in the last many years, maybe as a FB sometimes but very rarely. With him leaving for sure and shank likely gone too that leaves a big hole especially with musgraves desire to run with dual TE sets.

Yep Walter hates Cassel
and as a Chiefs fan I agree to a point
yet just some scrub QB pick is not going to un-seat Cassel

Steelers - Redux
Wow, I’ve been torn between taking Poe or Hightower in every discussion I’ve seen over at BTSC. Seeing them both here….I would be lovin’ it if it happens that way. I saw some other comments about Poe not falling to R2, and I have to admit I’m mixed, but secretly will hope it happens.
The other big need is the OG, and I see you plugges in Silatolu; I don’t know much about him, so I’ll take your word here.
The James pick in R4 would be awesome. Some serious speed to go along with Redman. Very nice. With Dwyer and Clay the bruisers spelling Issac, and Batch the 3rd down back, a change of pace with James would be terrific. All of that supposes that Mendy isn’t ready for the season and/or the FO has decided to move forward without him as far a re-signing him. Not quite sure how I feel about that to be honest, but I do think if we can grab James, especially in R4, then the writing is on the wall for Rashard.
The Seahawks are kind of tough to pick for, at this point,
but I think you’ve done as well as could be expected. A couple of pass-rushers and a developmental QB certainly fits a number of needs. You’ve clearly taken into account the comments from the previous mock. Nice work. Rec’d.

Great work
I think pete is gonna go for the biggest, athletic, freaks of nature in this draft which is why I think Osweiler is a good pick for that 4th rd QB. I could very easily see him wanting to pick him up.

Only one problem ......
I love your Seahawks picks! Except….. Osweiler is going to end up as a first- rounder. Watch him make a huge rise up draft boards once he works out and interviews. He’s already getting lots of first round buzz.
That’s OK with me. I love the kid.

Houston
Houston must find a WR to put across from Andre Johnson and Wright is the perfect type of WR.
Wright is not the perfect WR. Dwight Jones or Sanu are the perfect types of WRs. The Texans like WRs to block in the run game, don’t throw the ball deep, and are always tall.( except for holiday, but he was never going to see time as a WR only a returner and he couldn’t hold onto the ball.)
and the clouds opened up and God said "I Hate you Texans Fans."
Our Andre, who art from Heaven, hallowed by thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Canton.
And where has that gotten their #2 WR's? No where
it is time they get somebody that can stretch the field at the #2 spot and also, Wright is fantastic on under-neath routes and his biggest strength might actually be his YAC talents.

I know my Team
Wright Is a horrible pick in the Houston offense. Walter was the perfect #2 WR years ago, but not anymore. If you can’t block you don’t play.

He's right, the Texans don't take small speedy WRs early
Kubiak prefers his WRs to be like underweight TEs with enough speed to create separation

Yup. Wright would be nice to have, but he just doesn't fit the offense.

Correction..
The Jags will not take a QB, even if Griffin falls to them
I like the Jeffery pick and the Hosley pick. Jackson is a weird selection that makes no sense need wise or BAP wise, I think from whats available the pick would be Fleener. I kinda feel the same way about the Barclay pick, I don’t even understand, I think Sean Spence would be the pick there.

I was somewhat in favor of an early RB after last year's draft,
but it seems like such a waste now. GB doesn’t run the ball often enough to warrant an early pick on a back, especially considering the defensive deficiencies. Jared Crick was a first round pick before the injury, and I don’t think the pec should affect him at all after he heals. I wanted him at 32 before he got hurt, so having him available late second would be awesome. You have him falling all the way to the 4th.
Go Suns, Packers, Jays, and Huskers!

Bucs A++++++++++
Claiborne, Brown, and Lewis. Wonderful.
Dear Quincy Black and Geno Hayes, don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out.
Ravens
not bad at all for us. I think Barron is more suited as a SS, but with the way the board fell he was the best pick. Brewster is solid in the 2nd. 3rd I haven’t seen too much on him, but I don’t know that I see a whole lot of upside to him. I think a WR like Brian Quick would be another option there.

One of the better 49ers drafts I've seen in awhile
The only thing I’d change is if Zeitler is still on the board at the bottom of the second I’d rather go there than with Potter.
Every time Jamie Dukes says something enlightening and informative about football Jerry Rice and I mount up on our flying grizzly bears and claim pirate treasure from the moon. That's how often it happens.
Browns
Blackmon is that bright shiny object if the Redskins trade-up that high, but I think that Richardson is the better choice regardless of how the Peyton Hillis melodrama plays out. Missing out on RG3, the Browns need play makers who fit the system: The West Coast Offense. Blackmon isn’t that big, physical presence that a Jeron Criner, or Alshon Jeffery is.
Taking a QB in the second round? Not a chance, as Tannehill is neither the BPA and QB is not a position of need that warrants such a high pick. Holmgren stated that the Browns would like a QB that will compete with Colt McCoy, but a “system” oriented free agent QB like Detroit’s Shaun Hill would be the better choice, IMO.
Skins...
this is what NEEDS to be done. I can’t wait to see what RG3 will be three years from now.
In the third, I would prefer Adcock, as perhaps a RT replacement, but this entire draft will be determined by what the FO does at the top…
Wrong on the Texans' #1 pick.
I like Wright, but the running game is king in Houston and the WRs have to be serious blockers. It will be a WR, but a bigger one like Sanu.
