Giants draft is alright

Gilmore is decent there, I think he’s a bit underrated. Giants probably don’t need a corner, with a full offseason Amukamara should be good and Terrell Thomas might want back in on a one year deal to prove himself. And I don’t think Gilmore is a BPA there, Whitney Mercilus would be a lot better there.

Ben Jones is a good pick, tho I don’t think they’re gonna give up on David Baas so soon. Jones wouldn’t start anyway, but I think they look at a tackle there instead.

Case Keenum is an absolute waste of a pick. I really dunno what else to say there. I mean really?

I dont give them Mercilius bec i figure they have enough pass rushers.

And with Keenum, I think the Giants do need a backup Qb and they dont have to many holes to fill so you might as well get someone you can groom

by jetsmets65 on Jan 23, 2012 4:56 PM EST up reply actions

you never have enough pass rushers

Mercilus is a potential beast and Osi most likely will finally bitch his way out of town. While they could just move Kiwi to the line, they’d probably rather keep him at LBeezer. Drafting Mercilus will help that.

And the Giants have David Carr, he’s a fine backup. And they can just find whatever retread to put as their backup if he goes. Makes literally no sense to draft a QB in the third round, even less so a 26 year old stat stuffer.

This was a decent draft for the Giants. Have to agree with Rorschach....Giants only keep 2 QBs on the active roster

so getting a developmental prospect at QB doesn’t make too much sense, especially in the 3rd round.

Stephon Gilmore is a good prospect, well done. I would have taken Mercilus or Lamar Miller. Gilmore works, too. With the 2nd round pick, another very good pick. I’d like to pick Orson Charles as well.

I like this mock as well

I like the CB concept, and I think we will need a nickel CB. Ben Jones is a good player, he could kick Baas to LG.

Carr will likely resign. If not, they will seek another veteran in FA.

2012 NYG mock - 1: Chase Minnifield CB, 2: Kevin Zeitler G, 3: A.J. Jenkins, WR, 4: Neiko Thorpe S, 5: Brandon Bolden RB, 6: Rishard Matthews WR, 6: some random LB, 7: BPA

by ct17 on Jan 23, 2012 11:32 PM EST up reply actions

I'm really warming up to the idea of Mike Adams to the Giants.

Matching him with Will Beatty would give us talented bookends with youth. Add a veteran as well as James Brewer to the equation and we are great at T for a good while. I would love a TE like Dwayne Allen but he’ll be long gone by the time we pick. That is the one problem I have with this mock, no TE’s until pick #55? Dwayne Allen will after a strong combine be drafted as high as 11th to the Chiefs and no lower than #18 to the Chargers. I expect Coby Fleener to catch traction and gain a measure of late 1st round early 2nd round consideration. Don’t be shocked if after the combine and pro day workouts that Mohammed Sanu gets spoken of as the 1st WR drafted as well. Remember what I say folks.

by Robin's-meats-and-vegetables on Jan 24, 2012 6:50 AM EST up reply actions

I'm hoping Allen doesn't catch fire like that

I’d love if he was sitting there when we drafted. Adams would not be a bad pick from where we’re picking, I think KMac is pretty much done and after watching SF smash Eli into the ground, I’m all for grabbing some protection for Eli.

DeCastro in the first
Adams is fine in the second
Spence has no place in our defense, Pierce/Charles are better picks, even Osweiller could make some sense there

Has potential, and we need to figure out something for the QB position. Bring back Orton to fight it out with Cassel, while giving Brock 1-2 years to develop

i honestly am of the belief that Pioli will draft late round guys and rely on Cassel.

Now maybe if we are in a situation to pick top 5 again then we get a top notch QB but I don’t think he sees mid round QB prospects as better than late round developmental prospects.

yes but Pioli has said he wants to get to a place where they are taking late round fliers on a QB every season.

It is the most important position on the field and if you can snag a great player late in the draft it’s even better. He’s looking for that next Brady.

Cardinals

I’m not seeing a fit for either of these picks.

Floyd is a big, physical WR – Cardinals are looking for a fast, field stretching WR.

3rd round RB – Cardinals have Beanie (1000+ yds, 10+ TDs) + last years 2nd round pick (Ryan Williams) to go with LSH, and therefore have no need for another RB.

by b0rd3rline on Jan 23, 2012 5:11 PM EST reply actions

DeCastro in the 1st or Upshaw/Ingram would be better.

In the 3rd, She McCClellin, OT, or Safety would be better.

by KDean75 on Jan 24, 2012 2:38 PM EST up reply actions

Agree that the RB pick in the third is highly unlikely.

Understandable pick if unaware of the situation with Ryan Williams. The Cardinals run game was hurting this season when Beanie Wells wasn’t in the vicinity of 100%. Williams was the 2nd round pick last year but missed the season with a knee injury. He is expected back and healthy for next season.

I thought the Floyd pick was a nice change from most mocks. The Cards could really use improvement at the position, but again, a fast, field stretching receiver is what is needed.

Colts

Hate the Datko pick. Colts don’t need another tackle, Costanzo and Ijalana have the spots locked. It’s too high for Heyward, so I’d go with Jones. Boykin is ok, but I don’t think he’ll be great because of his size and inconsistency. Rather see Nix, McNutt, or Fleener.

All in all, a poor showing for Indy.

by TrueBlue87 on Jan 23, 2012 5:12 PM EST reply actions

Datko has 2 bum shoulders

Greatly talented, he’s just a medical mess, can’t take him that high

Also, The Bills really have no need for a safety, try something else with that third round pick.

Jags

1)Coples is probably the most overrated prospect in the entire draft right now and he WILL drop in this draft. He is a very bad Jaguars selection. Look for BAP and that should be the pick. That should put the pick between guys such as Rieff, Martin, DeCastro, and maybe a WR that puts up an INCREDIBLE set of workouts and interviews.
2)Yet another bad pick. Far from BAP who happens to fill a need does not make a pick good. Guys like Vinny Curry, Cam Johnson, and Marvin McNutt could be heavily considered here. Even a guy like Brian Quick could very well be the selection right here.
3)3/3 on the poor selections, and this one does not even address a need. There are once again a bunch of guys that definitely are better picks than Audie Cole. Tommy Streeter and T.Y. Hilton are two guys that would address the biggest need on this team and present pretty great value at the pick. If you want to look elsewhere guys like Orson Charles and Shea McClellin present better value at the pick.

This is just me, but I would go Curry in the second, as I feel he fills their needs a little better. Also they are in a good enough at Safety, I would think that not having addressed it earlier, a WR like Streeter might be where they go in the third.

Giants draft is middle of the road

I like Gilmore, and I wouldn’t mind another CB, in a pass happy league, you need a lot of pass rushers and a lot of corners. Speaking of pass rushers, like Rosch said, Mecilius may be a good option in the 1st round option for the Giants. Jones is good value in the second, and I’d love that pick. As everyone else said, no way in hell Giants go QB in the 3rd. If they do that I’ll eat my hat.

dont like the picks.

i think were forgetting how many CBs were getting back from injury this year.
and dont think gilmore is worth the first.
second, i guess center is okay, if baas doesnt heal, we cant find one in FA, and boothe becomes useless, if all 3 of those happens, then sure abonden BPA and take the center.
third goes without saying, dont understand why he would think QB

The word around teh Steelers front office

is that Burfict will not be on their draft board. Also, I don’t think we will take a TE. We have Miller who is a stud and Johnson who is a good H-Back and Saunders who showed a lot of potential

I don't see how Taze isn't on yalls board

He seems to fit the Steelers perfect, and if they don’t grab him, the Ravens will. I’m not a fan of drafting a guy to keep him out of a rivals roster, not at all, but here it seems to almost make too much sense.

by #56 4life on Jan 23, 2012 7:39 PM EST up reply actions

not saying we dont love james harrison

but we do not need another guy who’s going to rack up personal fouls and suspensions. there’s a lot of debate about it back on the Steelers site but rumors are they’ve taken him off their board and i agree. Dont’a Hightower would be a much better pick.

by steel.curtain.number2 on Jan 23, 2012 8:32 PM EST up reply actions

I understand the character issue thing

But I feel like the Steelers are ran well enough to straighten him out and turn him into a premiere LB. Hightower is the safer pick for sure, but Burfict will end up being the better player if he is in the right situation.

The Seahawks took OTs in the 1st round of each of the last 2 drafts

I don’t think they’d take a 3rd OT so high in the 2nd.

A pass-rusher makes sense in the 1st (though Perry would probably have to play LB to get a starting job) and a mid-round RB also fits the bill.

Vikings

Considering that ‘mock’ trades weren’t included, Kalil at on1 is spot on. Jones at 2 is a possibility but I think a free agent veteran wr is more likely to be picked up in the off season and a young guy in the middle rounds…Quick. If Oselmele is available he would be a a solid pick. Irvin at three makes no sense to me. Especially if a db hasn’t been selected yet. A DT or DB makes way more sense…even a middle linebacker.

by bigjohn53 on Jan 23, 2012 8:50 PM EST reply actions

Agreed

Will Irvin be an OLB in the 4-3? Will he be a DE? That’s a tough one. I do not want a WR in the first 2 rounds, period. You should have addressed defense in round 2. Casey Hayward, Markelle Martin, Zack Brown, etc. If you really wanted to give us a WR, McNutt and Fuller were still on your board in the 3rd…

Bucs

love the 1st round pick, but if Zach Brown is still there at their 2nd pick, I hope they take him. They need LB help and he is considered one of the if not the top 4-3 OLB in the draft.

No matter how much they are hyped, my teams always find a way to disappoint.

by thedudeofdudes on Jan 23, 2012 9:24 PM EST reply actions

I like the Lamar Miller pick a lot too, but Zach Brown would be a great pick there too

The 3rd round pick should be changed though. Our DEs are the best part of the team right now. There is no way we pick a DE this year.

by aakks on Jan 24, 2012 8:36 AM EST up reply actions

Jags

Coples, I don’t think he has the speed or athleticism to warrant picking him at 7 and personally prefer Jeffery in that spot.

Heyward, I do like the pick, but I would go with Zebrie Sanders there.

Cole, not a fan of this pick, I think Streeter would be a steal in the third.

Rams

Blackmon can’t be the 2nd overall pick. I know we need a WR1 but not so bad that we take him instead of an OT. Kalil, then Poe if he made it out of the first, then OLB like Irvin or Lewis..

Cowboys

I am in the minority on this for Cowboys fans, but I am not huge on adding DeCastro. I really like Melvin Ingram (assuming his combine numbers are good), and think that might be a better overall pick to replace Anthony Spencer.

In the second round, barring Crick showing up really well at the combine, I would rather have Michael Brewster. Center was a real problem for us last year (bigger than guard) and Brewster is a pretty good prospect for that position. Markelle Martin and Fletcher Cox are also guys I like better than Jared Crick.

In the third round I actually don’t hate the Kirk Cousins pick. I am an anti-Stephen McGee guy, and Cousins could be our new back-up QB considering Kitna has retired. There are a few other guys I could put there, but the Cousins pick is definitely an interesting idea.

If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

Broncos...

Well, I wanted a DT…and you give me two! We’ll prob mix it up a bit more’n that :) Rahim Moore really struggled late so a safety is not impossible.

There are no apostrophes in plurals.
A lot is two words. Allot can be one word but it has another meaning.
The only time you really want to use "myself" is when you are the recipient of your own action. Usually you're better off using "me."
Your is not the correct contraction of you are. The word you're looking for is you're.
It's anyway, not anyways.
But if you only remember one thing...

Like the Browns draft a lot. Not sure we need a TE in the 3rd but that’s great value there so I could see us taking him.

Saints

We don’t draft QBs til the 7th round. Cam Johnson is nice though

Drew Brees- the REAL MVP.

You don’t have Alshon Jeffrey getting drafted?

Flacco has to trust his receivers to make catches, but shouldn’t throw towards coverage. He needs to attack deep more often, but shouldn’t hold onto the ball so long. He needs to show more awareness in the pocket and move to extend plays, but nothing good comes of him leaving the pocket. He should run with the ball if nobody’s open, but he definitely can’t run with the ball.

Flacco should have the awareness of Roethlisberger, the elusiveness of Vick, the control of the offense of Manning, the leadership of Brady, the accuracy of Brees, and the arm strength of … Flacco? - Ampallang

pick #20 I think is referring to Alshon Jeffery

Love your draft for us. We get the two biggest position needs and a playmaker in Charles.

Niners draft is horrible. Pure garbage. Just hot, nasty dog feces.

No WR but a DT AND DE? Justin Smith and Ray McDonald aren’t good enough? Or our backups RJF or Demarcus Dobbs… Our 2nd rounder would end up on the practice squad. We don’t even run a 4-3 for a DE. Our Nickle package is great and all but at least call him OLB

I mean at least you can argue for Minnefield who is overrated as hell but Jesus. I could throw baby shit at a wall and have a retard come finger paint in it and organize a better draft from the nonsense

Gimme 1 round!

I am not one to lay off on criticism, but you sir take it way too far. You are an embarrassment to the human race and might want to consider a life where it would be socially acceptable for you to smear your poo on walls.

Having said that, the Niners draft IS pretty terrible.
