Mocking the Draft Live Draft

PrintHey guys. As you all probably know, I will again be running "Live Drafts" during the offseason and wanted to inform you that I intend to run one two weeks after the Super Bowl. The tentative dates for this one is February 17th and 18th. I am hoping to have this be somewhere between a 4 and 5 round draft. After the jump see what you need to do to become your teams GM.
In order to be selected as the GM, you need to comment in the comments section for what team you would like to run and then, before it is confirmed you MUST send me a tentative BPA list with at least 7 players for each round (rounds 1 through 5) with the subject of the email as "Team Name, SBNation Username, BPA List". If it is not subjected that way, I might accidentally delete it because I get a lot of garbage emails each day. Email steelersrule125[at]gmail.com. As we get closer to the draft date, I will publish all the rules of the live draft.
If it's deemed spam, it gets deleted.

Let’s see what the commish says but I have no problem working in a tandem as well. That’s what I did last year as well with another MCM user. It worked out very well

My cousin is a huge Browns fan
he is completely against the RGIII pick. his stance is that Aaron Rodgers could not have taken the current roster to the promised land. This might be an exaggeration as he is quite the jokster but in all seriousness, he believes the value in all your newly acquired picks, can be used better than replacing McCoy. I tend to agree as a spectator. How do you feel?

I am a big RG3 fan, but I am not sure he can survive in a division with pittsburg and baltimore....
…..at the same time, it is hard for the browns to just line up and go toe-to-toe with them, they just have a long way to go to catch up – to not just them – but even the bengals. So having someone who has the potential to “pull one out of a hat” should not be dismissed.
I’m not completely against drafting RG3 but wouldn’t trade up to get him. I would agree that McCoy hasn’t had much around him and probably deserves one more season to prove himself. After watching McCoy the past 2 seasons I think his ceiling is pretty low based on his physical ability. Either through the draft or free agency I see the browns adding another QB to atleast compete with Colt.

My point on trades though is that in most cases they are unpredictable and when done in live mocks it turns into a fantasy wish list instead of guys coming together and making a pick based on the quality insight they have to offer on the needs of the their team.

The last two live drafts I was involved in were ruined by the same GM making terrible trades. You should committ to using the Draft Pick Value Chart.

I agree that it is not perfect, but you need to have some scale for people to work to.
At least one trade last year was for approximately one third of the draft value chart, and the guy did not end up with more draft picks either.
If you used a target of at least 75% of the chart value or extra draft picks to the team giving up “value” you may eliminate the really dumb trades.
If a real GM made some of the trades in the first round that we saw last year, they would be run out of town….after they were tarred and feathered.

if we are using last years mock as an example , then this year i could offer the INDY GM the jets 1st and 2nd for their 1st and 3rd . thats how crazy and undervalued the trades were last year

if it is out of date then did the value of picks go up or down ?
looking at the falcons trade last year would suggest teams have to give up more to move up .
so i would take it that unless a guy offers a little more than the pick is worth the trade would be refused ?
i e . it would take a 1st and 2nd for the texans to move up to 16 . anything less would be an undervalued trade

I’ve been paying attention to different prospects and areas over the course of the year, so I have a good feel who could be good fits for us and whats their value. NFL draft scout and national football post help with that a lot too.
I’ve still got to look at the HB and OL (sans C) prospects though. If you have any thoughts, let me know. When it gets closer to the live draft date I’ll create a fan post over at APC too.
