Mock Draft 1.0

Here is my first 2012 NFL Mock Draft. This is my first NFL Mock Draft ever, so please give me your feedback on your team's pick and the picks overall, as well as if you strongly disagree with any of the picks. Again, this is my first mock so do take it easy if I made any drastic mistakes. Thank you.

Steelers

I could live with Poe in the first.

Broncos

I think Perry will be a good player in the league but will be more successful as an OLB in a team which uses a 3-4 grouping.
Brockers would be my personal choice at that pick with the board you have.

Mohammed Sanu is starting to be the popular pick for the Texans in a lot of mock drafts

Thankfully he’s one of the WRs I want on the Texans

Some giants fans will like it

and others hate it. I think our line is so bad I’ll take almsot anyone from the draft projected to go in the first round.

Jags

thinking is kind of sound although Coples is simply put an awful pick. He is not nearly the best available player. I would say that Reiff (or Kirkpatrick) is BAP and would be the selection

let me add in

he is likely going to fall significantly when teams realize he lacks the speed to be an effective pass rushing DE in the NFL

thinking is also sound

because we have a chance of losing Mincey. But, if we let him walk, it’s only because we’ve singed a better DE to replace him.

Ravens

Perfect pick.

After Porky Glenn checked in with 35in arms, I guess he'd be an alright pick since he could play tackle

still think he’s too much of a titty monster to be a first rounder. Then again I hated the JPP pick (tho most people did…)

I see you aren't a fan of getting interior

lineman. But Snee is getting older and LG is completely open. You think Petrus can step it up? I sure hope so but idk

by The Cole Train on Jan 24, 2012 11:43 AM EST up reply actions

Petrus and Boothe are fine as the interior

You can find guards too, I really don’t think you need to spend a high pick on it. Center and the tackles are much more important. Glenn I guess could be a guard but I think he’d be much more comfortable on the outside, tho I’d have no problem not drafting him at all.

and actually I think Petrus is gonna be a monster

pisses me off every week that he doesnt’ start. Whenever he plays (and Boothe at C for that matter), they run like its 2008. Really annoying.

i think you can find some decent "prospect" type OL later

in the draft i think with jenkins still on the board, or dwayne allen we go with one of them… prince jenkins and webster would be a nice trio. Or if we go dwayne allen it makes our offense so much harder to cover

by BigBlue91 on Jan 24, 2012 8:37 PM EST up reply actions

Petrus is already pretty good in the run game

And with Pat Flaherty coaching our O-Line, and the fact he’ll have OTA’s and Workouts this off season, his pass blocking should improve greatly.

I'm telling you...a non-headcase Bryant McKinnie.

The fact that he’s got Pamela Andersons and can still move the way he does….he’s going to be a first round pick. Then again, I said the same thing about Ayers last year…

I think Poe might be the way to go for the Steelers

If they do, I wouldn’t be surprised if they cut Hampton if he won’t reduce his salary.

McClendon is a good enough player to start while Poe is getting all Steeler-fied

Cardinals

I would be okay with Kuechly, but we would be limiting him if we put him next to Daryl Washington in our 3-4 defensive scheme. Washington and Kuechly are the same type of linebacker, WILB, who is more of a sideline-to-sideline type. Kuechly, if picked, would likely be asked to play SILB, which really limits his potential. A Dont’a Hightower type would be a better fit for the SILB spot, though taking Hightower at 13 would be a big reach. The way your mock worked out, i would look at either a pure pass rushing OLB, such as Mercilus, or a #2 WR like Floyd or Sanu. Either way, not terrible, but could be better.

If there is one player the 'Skins aren't going to draft,

it is Trent Richardson. I love him as a prospect, but there is no way Shanahan spends the #6 overall pick on a RB. Not only did he seemingly hit on RBs in the 4th and 6th round last year, but he just doesn’t draft RBs in the first round.

u make a great point

shanny hates committing to rbs. i’ll change that pick for the next update. any players you guys like as fans?

Browns

I’m OK with the Griffin pick- I’m just not sure we can say definitively that Colt McCoy is worthless. Now, I have been off the Colt bandwagon since midseason, but I think that in all fairness if you look at what he has had to work with, I’m not sure we can know that he won’t be better than he looked last season.

My thing is, I don’t see Colt having the tools to be an elite QB in this league. Maybe average or above average, but not elite. RGIII has a canon, accuracy, speed, and he is really smart and disciplined and works hard. I think if we take RGIII it is because our front office thinks he will end up being a great QB, not because Colt is a worthless QB.

I think Kirkpatrick is headed for a fall in the draft

and I think the Cowboys might be wise to pass on him if he is there. The more I read, the more it seems people are pointing out that a really soft schedule for Alabama last year (in terms of passing offenses played) inflated Dre’s apparent level of play.

For instance, KC Joyner scouted seven of his college games (the seven best offenses faced) and found that last year Dre allowed about 6.6 yards per attempt. Regardless of what you think about KC Joyner, there are cornerbacks that had a better yards per attempt mark in the NFL.

Now, if the Cowboys want to convert him to FS than perhaps I could get behind that to a small degree, but I don’t think if I would take that risk at #14. I would rather look to upgrade our pass rush. Hopefully when the real draft comes around Coples and Ingram won’t go as high as they did in this mock.

If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

Could he fall to #34?

Please? Colts DBs were embarrassing last year. They need a legitimately-sized guy from a real program. I know there are character issues. But I’ll take my chances with his yards allowed numbers if he falls to the top of the 2nd.

No way Kirkpartick falls to the second round

I don’t think he makes it out of the 20’s. Even if he isn’t as good as everyone says he is, the hype around him will have him good and gone by the first round.

Good job

However for the Bengals, if DeCastro is available at # 17 we will take him before anyone else. I beleive we only have 1 actual guard on our roster who is not a FA this year and it is by far our biggest need this offseason

I actually like the Floyd pick for the Jets.

Considering Ingram and Upshaw went early, I think there’s a lot of value there.
