Ranking the 2012 Draft Prospects by Position - Offensive Guards

Today I will continue ranking the 2012 NFL Draft prospects. This post will look at the guards of the 2012 NFL Draft. I am also pleased to announce that within the next week, I will introduce two new writers to the site. They are both very, very knowledgeable and will provide the site with some different types of posts.

1. David DeCastro, Stanford – DeCastro is the best guard prospect to come around in a long time and he has the potential to be a top 3 or 4 guard in the NFL. He should likely be a top 15 draft pick.

2. Peter Konz, Wisconsin – While Konz is the #1 center prospect, he is also the #2 guard prospect in the class. He has great feet, is very strong, and has all the intangibles. He should be a first round draft pick, and possibly top 20.

3. Cordy Glenn, Georgia – Glenn has all the tools to be a great guard but he needs to work on finishing blocks and playing to the whistle. He still has tons of talent and that should keep him in the first two rounds of the draft.

4. Kevin Zeitler, Wisconsin – What Zeitler lacks in athleticism, he makes up for in toughness and dedication. He is an excellent pass blocker and is good at pulling. He seems like a 2nd to 3rd round draft pick at this time.

5. Brandon Washington, Miami – Washington has tons of athleticism, finishes blocks, plays to the whistle, and is loaded with potential. He decided to leave Miami and enter the draft and it makes sense. He should be a 2nd to 3rd round draft pick in April.

After the jump, see the rest of the guard prospects

Star-divide

6. Kelechi Osemele, Iowa State

7. Amini Silatolu, Midwestern State

8. Ryan Miller, Colorado

9. Lonnie Edwards, Texas Tech

10. Lucas Nix, Pittsburgh

11. Art Forst, Rutgers

12. Rokevious Watkins, South Carolina

13. Joel Foreman, Michigan State

14. Larry Warford, Kentucky

15. Stephen Good, Oklahoma

I think DeCastro has the potential to be THE best

I think he can be THE best for several years. Love that dude.

if he drops to 17, start crying, cause he’s off the board

personally

I don’t want to see Marvin fired, I want him to be promoted to G.M. while handing the reigns over to Zimmer as head coach and hiring Jack Del Rio as Defensive Coordinator. Who Dey!!!

I got Zeitler 2nd overall for pure guards

I like Zusevics and Antoine McClain in the top 10 as well.

I almost put Zeitler ahead of Glenn but decided not to

Also, can you give me some links to analysis and film of these two guards?

you bet

against Nebraska

along with his line mates

I got these off of here

You could type in Glenns name and get results for him I suppose, but this source isn’t nearly as vast as it was last year. Aaron Aloysius is kind of a you tube guru to follow if you want to stay up to date.

Also here's what Cherepinski has to say about them

I don’t always agree with Walter, but his logic and homework are truly credible.

Another also from SI.com

OL Kevin Zeitler of Wisconsin has been shifting with Mike Brewster at the center position today.

I have my heart set on one of the Wisconsin guys..ok atleast 1

Zeitler looks outstanding on the move..not quite like DeCastro, but seek and destroy nonetheless.
Can’t believe I really care about the Draft when we’re setting up to beat on the Pats in the Super next week..God I love the Draft.
Washington sounds good,I hear he’ versatile.Does anyone think he can play RT?

Better prospect: DeCastro or Iupati?

by C.b.I on Jan 25, 2012 9:53 PM EST reply actions   1 recs

good question for Manraj7 (guy on here who is a 49ers fan, and likely watched a few Stanford games)

IMO DeCastro was very well coached and will come into the NFL as a day one starter, his rookie year could be better, but may not have as high a ceiling as Iupati, who I believe to be a more powerful man and better athlete.

This guard class is really weak

2012 NYG mock - 1: Chase Minnifield CB, 2: Kevin Zeitler G, 3: A.J. Jenkins, WR, 4: Neiko Thorpe S, 5: Brandon Bolden RB, 6: Rishard Matthews WR, 6: some random LB, 7: BPA

That's a shame.

Was really hoping 49ers would be able to get a good one somewhere in the 2nd-4th. Possibly 1st if Konz falls.

So do I

DeCastro is a stud. Zeitler and Glenn are very good prospects as is Kelechi Osemele. Konz can be a very good guard and their is plenty of depth as well

The top is very good

But the rest are definitely weaker than last year. Might gain some strength from tackles moving to guard.

Have you been watching the Senior Bowl practices? The OL has been getting killed. If you are in the 3rd or 4th round this year, you can get a much better DT than interior OL.
