2012 Senior Bowl: What we learned from Saturday's game

Scouts flocked to Mobile, Ala. this week for a chance to see some of the top draft prospects in the nation battle it out at the Senior Bowl practices. While scouts have seen most of what they need to see, the televised Senior Bowl provides fans with an opportunity to get a closer look at some of the top prospects in the country.

A player can only do so much to his draft stock at this point in the process, but there is still plenty to take away from today's game.

After the jump, check out a few things we learned from Saturday's Senior Bowl.

Star-divide

1. Bobby Wagner is Awesome: Utah State linebacker Bobby Wagner has been flying under the radar a bit, but he played an incredible game today. The instinctive outside linebacker has such a balanced game. Wagner started all four years for the Aggies and racked up nearly 450 tackles. He doesn't blow anyone away physically, but just plays a solid and smart game. He'll be a steal in the second or third round.

2. Not a lot about the wide receivers: It was tough to learn a whole lot about the wide receivers today. The quarterback play was spotty for much of the afternoon, outside of Kirk Cousins and Brandon Weeden. Former Razorback Joe Adams has had a strong day, but that has been due in part to spotty tackling in the secondary. On the other end of the spectrum, DeVier Posey, formerly of Ohio State, has had a few tough drops and ran a poor route that resulted in an interception.

3. Some running backs look better in game action: A lot was made about the mediocre performances of running backs Chris Polk of Washington and Vick Ballard of Mississippi State in practice this week. However, both have come out today and shown their worth in game action. Neither is going to run a blazing 40 time, but they have solid vision and ability to fight through tackles. Isaiah Pead also played well today.

4. Quinton Coples is a freak: While we all saw Quinton Coples put his athletic ability on display today, it is worth noting that most of the day he was schooling a converted guard, Kelechi Osemele of Iowa State. Nothing against Osemele, but one day of taking him to the cleaners doesn't erase a year's worth of inconsistency for Coples.

5. Nick Foles Needs Work: I've been high on Nick Foles all season long. He has traits that you just can't teach; a strong arm, competitiveness and great size. However, footwork and accuracy are two big concerns that were on display today. Those issues can be corrected, though. Foles is the type of high upside quarterback I would love to take a chance on in the third round.

The Problem with our Wide recievers is that they're never wide open and they have trouble receiving the ball...

Vinny Curry has a long NFL career ahead of him. I’m high enough on him to invest in some of his cards and stuff.

Coples was definitely the star of the game.

Looked like he was on a different level. Curry also looked very good rushing the passer but that has never been a question about him, it’s whether he can be solid vs. the run. Alameda Ta’amu was someone who stood out to me. He seemed to get a good inital push and for 340 pounds looked very agile. Brandon Thompson had a mixed bag, some good, some bad. Disappeared occasionally. Would love it if the Broncos could get him at 57 and I don’t think it’s too crazy to think he might fall.

Melvin Ingram looked a little below average. I might have been expecting too much out of him, because all the scouts seemed pretty impressed with his three days of practice. Didn’t look like a top 15 prospect to me. Wouldn’t mind the Broncos getting him at 25.

I am a fan of a team in the NBA, MLB, NHL, and NFL. I haven't seen the playoffs since April 28th, 2008 (1st round exit by raps). I haven't seen playoffs past the 1st round since January 26th, 2006. Stop and think about how insane it is. And depressing.

How was Harrison Smith?

And when we win, we want to dominate. We want to take guys out. We want to hurt guys. We want to win. We just want to dominate, hit them in the mouth. - Rathman

I thought that LT Mike Adams did an outstanding job.

He stymied Coples and Co. into irrelevance.

I do hope that Brandon Boykin’s leg injury isn’t too serious.

Washington DT Alameda Ta'amu

Other than Coples, i thought he had the best D game. Consistently threw off blockers, not just disengaged, but manhandled. Cordy Glenn had no answer.
