A Little Bit Different

Choices_medium

I wanted to try something different. A Three Round Mock based on Wes Buntings' Top 100 players as of today, combined with a Best Player approach.
I used www.drafttek.com for the team needs, www.walterfootball.com for the draft order, and www.nationalfootballpost.com for the player big board. I made no trades.

It is quite unique and I kind of hate how it turned out for my Kansas City Chiefs. I am certain there are some scheme mis-matches.

im fine with the jaguars draft

I’m surprised vinny curry lasts even to our 3rd round pick and we don’t take him.

you are fine with this draft?

It is pretty crappy. Blackmon is good but is not good enough to warrant that high of a pick. I think Reiff/Martin and Coples are much better picks. Let us ignore the fact that this draft has Martin falling into the second round. That is just straight up hysterical/
In the second and third rounds, another reaches purely to address need when better players filling the same need could be had.

I am thinking should the drft look anything like this, you go Reiff Sanu Curry

I wasn't reaching

it is Wes’ top 100 sorted by grade

Maybe Wes’ grades are wrong, or maybe a lot of people reach for names over talent?

just my opinion

by Steve_Chiefs on Jan 28, 2012 9:09 PM EST up reply actions

I think Wes Bunting is nuts then

to have a guy like Jon Martin lower than Adams and Datko is straight up comedic.

It might be about versatility

Martin is not going to be very good as a RT Power Blocking guy.

Thompson isn’t big enough to play NT, but other than that I could live with the next two picks. Btw, Burfict isn’t making it to the end of the second round.

It is out there

I don’t want to hurt his chances to make it as an NFL player.

Needless to say in KC (needing a SILB) we have discussed this

by Steve_Chiefs on Jan 29, 2012 10:23 PM EST up reply actions

Whatever
Before the practices even started the conversation turned to Arizona State junior linebacker Vontaz Burfict. Separate sources, including one close to the program, told me Burfict’s decision to turn pro was likely centered around the fact he was looking at potential eligibility problems in 2012. Everyone I spoke with said Burfict’s struggles in 2011 are directly related to the fact teammate Brandon Magee never took the field during the season after tearing his Achilles in August. I was told Magee, a leader on the ASU defense, was the one who made sure Burfict was properly positioned on the field and made him aware of assignments. This further confirms my report from the Shrine Game last week where different sources told me, "It’s a matter of Burfict not diagnosing plays correctly if put to the test, amongst other things."

http://www.draftinsider.net/blog/?p=6055

If he wants to play NFL football he will put in the work, else a bust

by Steve_Chiefs on Jan 29, 2012 10:33 PM EST up reply actions

Pittsburgh would be a great place for Burfict to grow up

as they GROOM players for a year regardless, good spot for him :)

Good to know and Thanks for the info

Heard and seen a few things about playing over aggresive, dumb penalties that sort of thing. Him not being able to read and recognize is way different.

Don’t think we can wait a year for maybe, It’s Hightower in the first or Audi Cole in the third

Once again thanks for the info.

Adrian Peterson wouldn't at all mind having DeCastro instead of Kalil

not that Kalil isn’t a beast, but DeCastro is THE best interior OLine guy to come along in years, pulls and blocks on the move, hits second level, etc etc … in the middle or pulling around, he’d be awesome for AP to run behind

some corroboration from fftoolbox
Matt McCants is one of the top mid-major prospects hailing out of the University of Alabama-Birmingham. As a member of the Blazers, he’s now a three-year starter at left tackle and earned All-Conference USA first-team last season.
McCants has an elite frame for an offensive tackle with very long arms and above average footwork. He is not completely filled out and is a couple years away from reaching his full girth. His great hand-eye coordination gives him a great punch while sliding out into pass protection. McCants has great range in establishing an edge or if asked to block on the second level. For a man his size, he moves tremendously well.

When he caught out of position, he needs to learn to stay disciplined through his techniques and keep his natural bend. That said, NFL scouts are going to be all over this young man when they see him in person during pro days and the NFL combine.

McCants currently projects as a third round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, but has all the physical tools to rise dramatically

RT, TE, LG, S are all bigger needs than ILB IMHO… and probably bigger needs than NT, because i think that gets addressed in FA

I like the first round picks, though.

CB is a desperate need now with Hall’s future uncertain (he may never be the same after that injury) and Clements being old. SS is more of a want than a need, but adding Barron to the defense would be awesome regardless.

Not saying I love it

but if the Bills got Coples and Curry, plus Dontari Poe, to go alongside Kyle Williams and Marcell Dareus, I think our d-line would be right up there with the Giants on the most feared fronts in the NFL.

by Steve_Chiefs on Jan 28, 2012 11:04 PM EST up reply actions

Defense in the first round

Corner Back,Middle linebacker or Defensive tackle that can get a pass russ from the inside and stop the run . Denver’s pass rush is good form the edge but nothing from the middle of the D Line . Martin in round two was a solid pick as a running back is a big need . As you know in the AFC West you have to stop the run and Denver has only been a middle of the pack defense at stoping the run . If they take a wide receiver it won’t be till after the third round .

100% agreement with taking D in the 1st round

Denver does not need to take a WR in the 1st. We need youth on the DL, at CB and a starting MLB. Maybe it is okay to get a RB in the 2nd, not a bad idea to get youth and depth there. I wouldn’t take a WR earlier than the 4th.

I agree, Larsen shouldn’t get any bigger. I am getting tired of his bone crushing hits knocking the pixels off my TV, once they fall to the floor they are very hard to find.

Lol it's fine.

I was just upset with how the whole draft went. The Giants don’t go linebacker in first round, and with Dwayne Allen, Sanu, Martin, and others there, it made it hurt more. Also Mercilus is probably on the Giants board for a number one pick, if he falls to the second round, there is no WAY they pass on him. They’d either take him or Vinny Curry there.

Well, I see you did not read my last fanpost

Completely out of character for the Giants. The only thing I can agree on is that Allen will be a guard at the next level – he was the worst tackle during Senior Bowl practices, but looked strong at guard.

2012 NYG mock - 1: Chase Minnifield CB, 2: Kevin Zeitler G, 3: A.J. Jenkins, WR, 4: Neiko Thorpe S, 5: Brandon Bolden RB, 6: Rishard Matthews WR, 6: some random LB, 7: BPA

I liked the

Bills mock.

flayed ones stealth mode

"Fleshling! Do not shoot! For I am one of you fleshy things. It is I. Your Uncle Stan. Can't you tell by the long strips of fleshy substances covered in bodily fluids? Trust me! I have fleeeeeeeeesh."

This mock i approve of

"Number one song and a Grammy, now I'm smashing
Maserati crashing, swerving through the traffic
Wrap it 'round a pole, sell a mil off the tragedy
I defy gravity "

Vikes

Not a fan of it. While I think DeCastro will be a great player, #3 for an OG just doesn’t seem like good business. I would much rather have gone with the best OT, Matt Kalil at #3 and waited for the second best OG (Zeitler) in the 3rd round. In the second round I would have addressed the secondary.

Redraft
1st. Kalil
2nd. Hayward/Dennard
3rd Zeitler

Lions...

I guess it’s fine. Addresses needs decently, the players are relatively good value fits.

But to be honest, I’d be really disappointed in this draft.
