2012 NFL Draft: Broncos Looking for more Quarterbacks
Tim Tebow earned the right to be the Denver Broncos starting quarterback heading into 2012 training camp, or so John Elway said back on Jan. 17, a few short days after Denver's season ended.
However, Elway has made it clear that the team will be looking for more quarterbacks this offseason, especially with Brady Quinn set to become a free agent, according to the Denver Post.
Elway was quoted as saying that he is looking for "the big athlete who can throw the ball from the pocket."
That phrase isn't one often used to describe Denver's current starting quarterback, and while Tebow had a magical run, he still has a lot to prove heading into next season.
While the many believe the Broncos could just be looking to add depth, it seems Elway wants to give any newcomer a chance to compete for the job.
"Anybody who comes in at any position is going to think they have a chance to compete," the Broncos' vice president of football operations went on to tell the Denver Post. "Any free agent or anybody that comes in here when we start training camp is going to be competing for jobs.
There are a number of talented signal callers that will be available in the mid and late rounds should Denver decide to go that route. Kirk Cousins of Michigan State had a huge week at the Senior Bowl, and seems to fit what Elway is looking for in a quarterback.
Another player Denver could target is Arizona State's Brock Osweiler. At 6-feet-8-inches tall, Osweiler is surprisingly athletic and has a huge arm. The Broncos could spend a mid round selection on Osweiler and allow him some time to develop.
Any quarterback brought into Denver is likely to continue to fuel Tim Tebow's fire. I personally don't think Tim Tebow is the long term answer as Denver's franchise quarterback for reasons that aren't worth getting into. But if anyone thinks a mid-round or free agent quarterback is going to slow this guy's will to be that franchise guy, they've got another thing coming.

Yes they will go get a quarterback, either through free agency or the draft.
Because currently they have no one else set to play behind Tebow. I feel like this is going to be an annoying story throughout the draft process where everyone will freak out when they realize the Broncos are looking at quarterbacks and they will all believe it’s the front office questioning Tim Tebow as a starter. The team is going to do their due diligence on quarterbacks the same way they with every other position. And they will bring someone who can be a decent backup if Tebow gets hurt or his game just goes to hell, both of which are very real possibilities so it’s important to have a good backup, but it doesn’t mean they don’t believe Tebow can be effective, they’re just filling a roster hole.
I am a fan of a team in the NBA, MLB, NHL, and NFL. I haven't seen the playoffs since April 28th, 2008 (1st round exit by raps). I haven't seen playoffs past the 1st round since January 26th, 2006. Stop and think about how insane it is. And depressing.
If you count re-signing Quinn or getting a FA as second string
then yeah they will get a QB.
Believe you can and you're halfway there.

This poll
will have no clout. Half the people will just say yes because they think Tebow sucks or just plain don’t like him. It will have nothing to do with team needs.

In our defense, Tebow does suck.

I admit
he has a ways to go. He admits that. Elways admits that. He has more talent 80% and rising of any other NFL QB playing right now or even ones coming out in the draft this year. Hate him if you want. I like him and am behind him to be the Broncos QB for the next ten years, God willing.

Can you find the 'W' in this mess? Tebow can.
The interesting poll would be to see where people think Broncos should draft a QB
As Eddie said the team needs a QB as there is only one currently on the 53 man roster who is still in contract so its obvious they need one.
What will vary is whether people think they should draft one in the early or late rounds.
The main thing for me would be that they dont over draft a QB like a few teams will do in this draft.
"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson
I said no, but not because I don't think Tebow sucks
because I think at his rate of inconsistency, he is not a viable long term solution. But they made a fairly decent run at the playoffs and I doubt there’s going to be a game-changing QB at their spot in the draft. Unless the poll is going for getting a backup QB period, then I’ll stick with no
It's a certainty we get a FA quarterback...
Tebow backup. And I’ll be happy to see the back of Brady Quinn. I would imagine we may look at a latish round QB or even add Adam Weber to the 53-man, too. Tebow’s still a big question mark but as this was his first (not even full) year as a starter and he had no offseason coaching, it’d be silly to close the book on him now. My guess is that Osweiler is gone before Denver picks in the 3rd so anyone they actually end up picking would be a sleeper.

Drafting a QB for the Broncos is a no lose scenario
If they draft a guy in the 3rd or 4th, and Tebow keeps improving,or keeps wining games(However you want to view that), then you might have a valuable trade chip down the road. If you draft a guy, and Tebow regresses, then you have a potential starter sitting on the bench.

Russel Wilson or Darron Thomas
in the later rounds like 4-6 or even in UDFA if they last that long. They both can play in the same offence Denver runs with Tebow and you get depth and competition for Tebow.
No Wilson...never.
He’s too short to be an NFL quarterback. He’s even a little short for a stormtrooper. And he’s not very good (see Senior Bowl.)

Ridiculous. Tebow has earned the job
What more does he have to do? All the guy does is win. He should be the starting QB going forward and should be given every opportunity. Perhaps even a few seasons to learn the position. They really should consider signing him to a long-term deal.

Essentially yes...and maybe.
Tebow did earn the right to the job next year. He still needs a lot of coaching because while he flashed brilliance, he lacked polish. Give him a whole offseason of OTAs, minicamps, etc. and if he comes back next year passing over 50% while making 30 throws a game (or at least appears on his way), give him a long-term deal. If he flops (not too worried) we can always jump back into the QB pool in 2013.

my thought is Denver picks up experience over a rookie.
We have tebow and what’s his name from Minnesota that they like. I think they’ll go get some experience with speed IMO.

I think that if John Fox and the Denver offense wants to stay ahead of the NFL DC's
They need to take the offensive game plan to the next level, and Tebow does need to be a part of that game plan. My suggestion would be going to a two QB system, believe it or not Tebow can throw, and when he was in, the defense would have to worry about both the run and pass. If the second QB was a traditional passer, teams would be more focused in on the pass, but the Broncos would still be able to run from the RB spot as well (obviously). Also they could put in both QB’s at the same time, and use Tebow’s athleticism as a FB/TE type, or as the actual QB. It may sound like a high school/college type thing, but the QB option was a high school/college play before Tebow came along.
No, we'll have to abandon the option and Tebow will have to do it with his arm...
Which I think he can as long as he gets more practice and an offseason with some coaching, not just wasted in the weightroom. No sense paying QB money to a guy only to get him hurt on running plays. Tebow made some really awesome throws last season, just not enough of ‘em consistently. He’s enough of a project without having to draft another QB of the future.

Well I'm not saying Tebow doesn't work on his arm, if he does that'd be another wrinkle in their offense
But a two QB system would be a great way for the Broncos to stay ahead of the defenses in the NFL without having to get rid of Tebow (who did help get them to the playoffs and beat the Steelers) and start all over again. The franchise needs stability at the QB spot, but adding another QB to split playing time and allows Tebow to use his skill set contributing in other ways would be a tremendsous advantage for the Broncos.
Just not worth the time and cost to add another project QB...
The injury risk to Tebow using him as a ball-carrier is too high. Plus, I’ve only seen a 2 QB system tried once and it was a flop so, no. Bad idea. We need a backup to Tebow, sure. And we might even take a flyer on a late-rounder (or keep Weber.) The focus is, and should be: What can we do to ensure Tebow succeeds, not: What can we jury-rig in case he fails.

They aren't getting Osweiler with a "mid round" pick
Matter of fact, I bet they wouldn’t get him with a second round pick.
Possibly second - but there's always a run on QBs - but, yeah, no way third.
Which is fine as there is no need to replace Tebow now, just augment him with a veteran backup and if he fails to develop, worry about a replacement next year. If there’s a physical specimen available as an UDFA or even a late-round pick, maybe. Not Russell Wilson under any circumstances.

It would be irresponsible for them to not pick up at least 1 qb somewhere.
If they really think Tim Tebow is their guy they should bring in a veteran to mentor him.
Otherwise they need to draft a guy to step up when he goes down.
I personally think hes going to crash and burn horribly next season. That defense won them games last season. If they can’t keep up a superhuman efffort all season long its going to be a long season in denver.

Yes, definitely a veteran backup.
A lot of people who think (thought?) they know more than you do about football – me for one! – said the same thing and Tebow proved ‘em wrong just as they started to laugh. Kid’s got something and enough determination not to crash and burn.

wish he will crash and burn. He’s alright with that. If he were here to answer your projections he would tell you God Bless and Go Boroncos.

I know from my two responses on here today
that I will be perceived as a fan only because I believe in the same spiritual power Tim does. This would be far from the truth. I have been a fan of the Broncos since about 1972. Around when Ralston took over as HC. Tim’s religion doesn’t hurt his standing with me, but it’s the Elwayisk/Houdini qualities of escaping and keeping the play alive that gets me. That and the will to win. It’s fun again. There is not a worse feeling as a fan than to know you had no chance at halftime already. I know. We had a couple of SBs like that. We had Orton, the anti-comeback QB. Our last game played was like that. It’s OK though, because I didn’t give up hope on that one until long after anyone else would’ve.

I'm all for draftin Cousins if he's avaible in the 4th.
but we need to focus on the D in this draft. New England handed us our a$$ cause we have major needs on that side.
I think our offense just needs more time to gel. We have a LOT of young guys.

Elway looks like such a blowhard in that pic!
I understand he wants to find a pocket passer, but backing Tebow and filling out the rest of the roster while holding off on a QB until a stud is available makes more sense.
All the way to a Super Bowl victory like a knife through butter
