2 Round Mock

I am getting my player rankings from: http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/prospectrankings

I am getting team needs from: http://drafttek.com/teamneeds2012.asp

I am getting the order from: http://walterfootball.com/nfldraftorder2012.php

So if I mess up a team need or BPA, I am sorry. There will be trades in this mock draft, but with this new rookie wage scale I am not sure how the new value chart works, so I am going off my judgement. I will only explain and justify picks that I feel need some explanation. I am also going to try to make things a little different, but keep them within reason.

Star-divide

1. Indianapolis Colts: Andrew Luck

2. St. Louis Rams: Matt Kalil - I know this is the hot spot for trades, but I think the Rams think they would rather protect Sam Bradford's blind side for a long time than trade out for 2-3 more picks.

3. Minnesota Vikings: TRADE to Redskins: Robert Griffin III - Redskins give up 2012: 1,2 2013, 1

4. Cleveland Browns: Justin Blackmon - may be a bit of a reach but they need to get a playmaker for Colt.

5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Morris Claiborne

6. Minnesota VIkings: Riley Reiff

7. Jacksonville Jaguars: Dre Kirkpatrick

8. Carolina Panthers: TRADE to Bengals: Trent Richardson - Bengals give up 2012: Oak 1, 1 2013: 2, 5

9. Miami Dolphins: Courtney Upshaw

10. Buffalo Bills: Quinton Coples

11. Kansas City Chiefs: David DeCastro

12. Seattle Seahawks: Ryan Tannehill

13. Arizona Cardinals: Jonathan Martin

14. Dallas Cowboys: Janoris Jenkins - Jerry Jones does not have a huge problem with character issues - is willing to take the risk (Dez Bryant)

15. Philadelphia Eagles: Luke Kuelchy

16. New York Jets: Mike Adams - Need to upgrade over Wayne Hunter

17. From Trade: Panthers: Cordy Glenn

18. San Diego Chargers: Melvin Ingram

19. Chicago Bears: Michael Floyd

20. Tennessee Titans: Whitney Mercilus

21. From Trade: Panthers: Alfonzo Dennard

22. Cleveland Browns: Lamar Miller

23. Detriot Lions: Peter Konz

24. Pittsburgh Steelers: Dont'a Hightower

25. Denver Broncos: Devon Still

26. Houston Texans: Dwight Jones

31. Patriots: Michael Brockers

32. Giants: Dwayne Allen

ROUND 2

1. St. Louis Rams: Mark Barron

2. Indianapolis Colts: TRADE to Carolina Panthers: Chase Minnifield: Panthers give up 2012: 2,4 2013: 2 (Bengals)

4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Zach Brown

5. Cleveland Browns: Brandon Thompson

6. Jacksonville Jaguars: from TRADE: New England: Fletcher Cox

7. Minnesota Vikings: Stephen Gilmore

8. Miami Dolphins: Kelechi Osemele

9. Buffalo Bills: Coby Fleener

10. Carolina Panthers: from TRADE: Indianapolis Colts: Dontari Poe

11. Seattle Seahawks: Jerel Worthy

12. Kansas City Cheifs: Orson Charles - Many teams are going to go for TEs, considering the success they have been having.

13. Dallas Cowboys: Zebrie Sanders

14. Philadelphia: Ronnel Lewis

15. New York Jets: Vinny Curry

16. New England (from Oakland): Andre Branch

17. San Diego Chargers: Andrew Datko

As a Bengals fan

Hate it. No way we give up both #1’s plus a 2 and 5 next year to move up 9 spots in the draft. I understand trading up to get Trent ( I dont agree with it) but no way they give up so much. Bengals have many more glaring needs (G/CB/SS) than RB.

by Alexneyer on Jan 31, 2012 10:10 PM EST reply actions

OK

I do think that the price is high but I think that any team that is going to trade with the Bengals is going to want both 1’s. I don’t think the Bengals would call off the trade because of that. I also expect them to have to give up something next year, maybe a 3 or 4 instead of a 2. Regardless, the Bengals are going to have to give up at least 3-4 picks to get Richardson.

by indycolts21 on Jan 31, 2012 10:15 PM EST up reply actions

ANswer

Carolina already has two goof rbs: WIlliams and Stewart. And they locked up WIlliams for a fairly long time by giving him a new contract.

by indycolts21 on Feb 1, 2012 7:37 AM EST up reply actions

I agree that the trade for Trent is ridiculous.

A lot of mockers don’t have Richardson going until around the # 20 spot anyway. The Bengals would sit and wait as Richardson is not that much of an impact player.

If the Bengals really wanted him, a first and second rounder this year would be as much as anyone would want to give up. I would think the Bengals would be almost as happy with Lamar Miller or Doug Martin or David Wilson.

"I’m sorry for all the people who want us to run the ball 40 times a game, but we’re going to put the ball in No. 9’s hands and he’s going to make plays for us like he did today," Lions coach Jim Schwartz said. Amen to that Jim!

with you

No way the bengals trade both firsts, they will do the same thing as last year, wait and get whos left that they like. They would trade to early second for Martin or miller before they trade for Richardson.

by JCompton41 on Feb 1, 2012 10:30 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

Please no

I’d rather trade down to get a running back in the top of the second than give up two first rounders for Richardson. I love him as a prospect, but I doubt he takes this team to the next level. Two first rounders can go a lot farther towards building up this team.

I think both firsts is unrealistic myself

but how would Bengals Nation feel about trading your #17, second, and third instead? You would get Richardson, and still have another late first round pick.

To many needs to be getting rid of high picks. Secondary and oline are bigger needs than running back. I would rather trade up infront of kc and grab decastro for less and fill a bigger need.

Can't argue with the picks

Not a huge fan of Allen as the pick, but he is a great player. Boykin is tough, athletic, and can handle returns. Needs to get smarter, though, I saw him get lost a lot in coverage. But he may be an ideal nickel.

Thinking

You guys may want to add another RB since you guys are a run heavy team. McGahee is getting up there in age, and I just think that Moreno is injured too often and is not that good. You guys also have Thomas, Royal, and Decker at WR, so I don’t think thats a big prob. Could see you guys go CB though.

by indycolts21 on Jan 31, 2012 10:18 PM EST up reply actions

if they did add a RB i hope it is not Wilson I think he is one of the most over rated players in this draft.
at that position Boykin, Martin and Hayward are the best players on the board IMO

by Agent Jerry Fletcher on Feb 1, 2012 8:54 PM EST up reply actions

I think Wilson is a great athlete and when he gets into the open field then he has the skills to make something happen.

Yet when he is handed off the ball I dont think he has the ability or vision to find a hole between the tackles. It seems that he takes an age to process all the information in front of him and then make a decision and not always the right one.

Against weaker opponents and weaker D lines at College level you get away with it. Against better College D lines like his game vs Clemson and in the NFL you get smashed and lose yards.

I had concerns before the Clemson game, the Clemson game proved it to me and his 22 yard loss vs Michigan was the icing on the cake for me.

On the basis of what I have seen he is a 3rd rounder because of his upside nothing more.

Cowboys

Janoris I am on board with. Sanders though is a terrible pick. He is a finesse tackle who can’t move inside and Dallas is committed to the man-child that is Tyron Smith at LT (or will be soon enough) and Doug Free at RT (which is where he best fits anyway). The pick there should easily be Vinny Curry to help with the pass rush.

Dwight Jones' draft stock in dropping like a rock

He’s probably a mid to late 2nd round pick now. Texans would probably look at Alshon Jeffery or Mohammed Sanu at #26

That's changed a lot after the Senior Bowl

Mohammed Sanu is probably the favorite WR for the Texans as far as the BRB is concerned. Jones has a lot of upside, but he’s dropped out of the first round. Now if he’s still there for the Texans in the 2nd, getting him & Sanu would be nice

The trade to Carolina probably wouldn’t happen. Minnifield is a great corner and the Colts secondary desperately needs help. There is no reason for them to give that up, especially since picking at 34 gets them the same quality player they’d usually get in the first round.

Not Avoidable

The Vikes would definitely demand at least that much for a trade, even if the Browns moved up 1 they would probably ask for 2 1s since a lot of teams are really high on RG3.

Vikings

Not a bad trade. Reiff or Martin would do in the first.

But in the second I do not think they will pass on Zach Brown.

They need an OLB badly as Erin Henderson is a free agent and just so so.

Sanu is nice but I believe the Vikings will add a WR via free agency and then another one later in the draft. At least I would.

The LB will help the team more than a rookie WR who probably will have a longer LTI (length to impact) than the LB.

by pcroadrage on Feb 1, 2012 6:18 PM EST reply actions

Thought Process

For the First trade I thought that the Panthers would take the trade, and pick Glen because they are going to want to protect Cam. Glenn also has the versatility to play both G and T. Through the 2nd two picks of the 3 I did the Panthers solidify the backfield with both Dennard and Minnifield. With that they can focus more in the D-Line and WRs, Could get a Nick Toon in the 3rd (at least what I have in my mock). So I think it works out.

by indycolts21 on Feb 1, 2012 7:02 PM EST up reply actions

Interesting idea

I don’t know the points situation (or care that much for a mock). But if you have a 1st round value on Minnifield, and you are staring at a few teams in front of you with CB needs, you would have to move up to guarantee Minnifield. I have him much higher than Gilmore. They have the extra 2 from Cincy, so they are really just trading a 4 for a 5. In this year’s draft, I don’t think the 8th pick is worth that much. I think Cincy does the worst out of all the teams involved.

by Sylvester.The.Jaguar.fan on Feb 1, 2012 6:20 PM EST reply actions

I see

Yes I do suppose the 4 picks are a bit much maybe take out the future second?
But I do think the trade happens since they probably want a WR for Gabbert. Jeffrey seems to be the player that the Jags will get, better to get him at 27 than risk it in the 2nd. Due to the fact I don’t think Jeffrey will go into the 2nd round – the 49ers or some other team might take him before.

RGIII to the Redskins would be great & I think the compensation is about right but ....

I think that he is going to the Browns. I think that Cleveland hired an OC(Brad Childress) who values a dual threat QB but if he ends up a Redskin I will be in Hog Heaven. Lions

I don’t see Mike Adams am i missing something my eyes are pretty bad :)

honestly based on what i see i would prefer

Mike Adams in the first and

Michael Brewster in the 2nd round

That would be a perfect draft based on what you have here

Adams

Adams is to the Jets in the 1st. So he is gone by the pick for the Lions. Brewster is a 3rd round pick in this mock.

Don't think Browns would want Thompson

They just drafted Taylor and Rubin is signed for awhile, I believe. Strongest part of their defense.

2012 NYG mock - 1: Janoris Jenkins CB, 2: Kevin Zeitler G, 3: A.J. Jenkins, WR, 4: Neiko Thorpe S, 5: Vick Ballard RB, 6: Rishard Matthews WR, 6: some random LB, 7: BPA
