Landry Jones wisely says no to NFL Draft
Before the start of the 2011 college football season, Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones was a point of contention amongst NFL Draft fans. As the season progressed, however, the opinions largely became the same: He wasn't ready for the NFL.
On numerous occasions, Jones had trouble picking up the blitz and threw bad passes. The physical skills are there for Jones. He has nice size. His arm is strong. But it's the mental part of the game that's left people wondering. The negatives in Jones' game were only compounded following an injury to star go-to wide receiver Ryan Broyles. In the four games Broyles missed, Jones threw just one touchdown compared to six interceptions.
That's why it was a smart move by Jones today to not enter the 2012 NFL Draft and return to Oklahoma for his senior season. The deficiencies in Jones' game can all be remedied by more playing time, discipline and effort. If Jones becomes a first-round draft pick in 2013, it will be because he worked for it. He'll enter next season as a mildly regarded prospect who benefits from an Oklahoma offense known for quick plays and quicker routes. But the skills are there for Jones to become much more than the product of gimmickry.

could be even more quarterbacks next year...with potiental to pass him if he doesn't play lights out
Sadly the 2013 NFL draft quarterback class could be loaded and not just Barkley
Geno Smith
Tyler Bray
Tyler Wilson
Keith Price
Don’t forget Aaron Murray, maybe EJ Manuel and whichever break-out QB is out there that we aren’t talking about yet.

“don’t take a QB this year, next year the class is gonna be better”!!!!

Ryan Tannehill is getting richer everyday. Their are going to be some crazy reaches on QBs again just like last year.

acturally Ryan Tannehill looks like a very good quarterback
just not alot of starts under his belt. But pocket awareness and accuracy look solid. Could end up becoming the Andy Dalton of this draft imho
Andy Dalton had a ton of starts under his belt
Tannehill will look more like the Colin Kaepernick of this draft.

I don't know about that...
In my mind, it’s shaping up to be more like 2010. A top tier QB or two in the top ten, and then a long wait until the second round for QBs. For teams to take Tannehill, Weeden, or any other QB, they’d have to reach so far and give up so much talent, and I don’t think they’ll do that.
It's a mistake to not to declare.
He would have been 3rd QB this year. With Barkley going back at best he will be 2 so really not making much ground and if he is injuered he would be screwed.
Jones had no shot of being the #2 QB in this draft
next year you really never know. Before last season Jones was right there as the #2 QB, then played his way out of it.

Jones is older than Newton and Gabbert
He better get it together in a hurry.
Jones needs to practice taking hits
They should use him as a tackling dummy. Needs to get the fear out of him.

see this is the thing with quarterbacks. Quarterbacks that hear footsteps or don’t excel at staying composed and calm in the pocket and don’t know how to manipulate the pocket just about always fail.
People look at what type of offence and if they called plays from the line and all of these useless evaluation points. It almost always comes down to their command of the pocket… then accuracy if it is terrible can hold you back THEN all those other things.
Jones in my opinion is not a first round pick because of his lack of presence in the pocket it is just a undeniable needed skill. Or you will end up like Blaine Gabbert or at best Mark Sanchez…and all of their faults directly relate too the fact that they don’t respond well too pressure.
Cam Newton was simi clueless about coverages but you could see he could play through it because of pocket presence… don’t like Jones at all because of it.
Other side of the coin
Yes sometimes it looks like he can’t make plays when the pocket collapses. But it could be worse. He could force throws which lead to turnovers. He is coached not to force things and live to fight another down. Oklahoma was overrated this year by the media. They didn’t have a great offensive line, they didn’t have a clear #1 RB, the play calls were questionable, and they didn’t have a lot of WR depth behind Broyles and Stills.
QB’s will always shoulder the blame, I get that, but things weren’t as rosey in Norman as people thought going into the season.

Wow
I had no idea Landry had such a bad finish to his season.
Let me be the scouting director AND the GM
even though he lost his top WR
he still should have shown enough to show that he could rebound. His failure to do so just proves to me he’s currently not able to adjust at all, which speaks poorly for him in the faster, harder hitting NFL. smart move long run because if he had entered now he would have done miserably
dammit he stayed
Now my sooners have to suffer another year of him

He's the School's all time leading passer in TDs and yards
Poor you.
