Split interest: RG3 and Andrew Luck both have March 22 pro day

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports today that Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck and Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III will both have their pro day workouts on March 22.

While this may simply be a coincidence, it's something Griffin is likely reveling in. He's been open in wanting to be the No. 1 pick in the draft and now he'll get to upstage Luck on their workout day.

Beginning at the NFL Scouting Combine and throughout the offseason, Griffin should unquestionably be the star of the meat market months. His athleticism is off the charts and he's charismatic with flawless character. If Griffin should overtake Luck as the No. 1 pick in the draft, which remains unlikely, having their workout on the same day is another step in the process.

As much as it will be worth monitoring how the quarterbacks throw at their pro days (if they choose to), how many Indianapolis Colts representatives in attendance will be just as telling.

The Colts are going to take Luck. Any reps they send to Griffin’s pro day will be a smokescreen. Luck has more consistent production and has experience calling plays at the line and reading coverages from under center. That’s the same type of offense the Colts have used since 1998

it really isn't a smoke screen as much as it is Veeting options properly. Its not like on Maddon 12 where you can just pick a guy and if it doesn't work start over. You have to get it right.

I am not a Colt fan but even i know this is false. Alot of Colts fans that really want Andrew Luck aren’t really accepting certain things. And it is troubling and proof of alot of programmed Fan bases into the ESPN hype machine that has repeatedly told you Andrew Luck is it.

Like in this fans statement saying that Luck ran the same offense. This is totally and completely false and i am not even a Colts fan. The Colts with Manning at the helm employed a no huddle offense with emphsis on changing the plays at the line because they are "in a no huddle offense ". So by the very nature of this you will see a quarterback changing plays and using audibles. This isn’t really new .. the Bills did it with Jim Kelly in their “K gun offense” using their base personel to dictate match ups because of they players scheme diverse skill sets “IE thurman thomas lined up anywhere”. Colts did this samething. With Dallas Clark becoming the match up issue no linebacker could cover…. so with the same personel they could be in alot of different looks directed by Peyton Manning….. and this is something you do with a veteran quarterback not a rookie.

Secondly Andrew Luck may have changed plays at the line but that is verse San Joe State and Cal and Washington State. The very concept of him “fooling” veteran defenses is silly. Manning developed his style because of teams like the Steelers and Ravens because they have veteran defenses that are changing their plays and looks right before the snap gaming right along with Manning…hince all the fake calls and jestures and dump audibles and arm waving…these VETERAN DEFENSES are doing the same thing lol. Manning had to deal with these defenses that have veterans at all 3 levels of the defense shifting and moving and changing their plays at the line.

By year two is really when you start too give a young quarterback that type of freedom.. and by that time both Luck and Griffin could be on equal footing in that regard.

The entire concept of “playing in a pro style offense” holds absolutely no merit historically. The NFL became gun shy on picking quarterbacks from spread offense because of Andre Ware and David Klingler. Two quarterbacks who put up massive numbers in a run and shoot. But the failed to evaluate what type of throws they made. Instead the generalized those failures like most fans do now and continue to fail to evaluate what type of plays are they making? What are their skill sets? Top 3 rookies in NFL history all came from spreads… Drew Brees came from a spread (yes all 3 ran read option spread football don’t believe me just look at this i am not making this up.)

Cam Newton

Andy Dalton

Sam Bradford

Drew Brees

There is absolutely no truth that proves that a quarterback from a pro system trumps a quarterback from a spread… espn already did some research on this just from 2005. Perception does NOT meet reality of what is acturally happening.

As much as Mel Kiper and Todd McShay like to say other wise you see real rumblings that this is closer than anyone thought it could be. There is even talk about If griffin could break Cam Newtons passing yardage mark. It is alot closer than alot of people want to acknowledge. Why is that? What would be the problem with veeting the entire draft process instead of just stoping the evaluation of Luck 18 months prior?

If i was a GM and i had to pick today i am leaning toward Luck. But it is by a hair and that could change after some height weight health concerns are confirmed along with possible RG3 blowing up the combine…. It is almost like i really want to raise my eyebrows at any player Matt Millen Todd McShay and Mel Kiper likes…. but that is just me.

Luck should be the first pick..

I like RG3’s athleticism and everything he brings to the table, but i am not sold on him just yet. Everyone is having Cam Newton hysteria right now and so they see RG3 as being just as good because of similar styles. Cam, who is a phenomenal talent, fell into the right situation with the Carolina Panthers. They had a good o-line with 2 bookends and a bookmark(Gross,Otah, and Kalil), also 2 vet. RBs in Stewart and Deangelo, a rejuvenated number one WR in Steve Smith, 2 tight ends in Shockey and Greg Olsen, but the main thing that helped him was the hire of OC Rob Chudzinski who has a history of putting up big numbers offensively with QB’s you would not expect to win with. He won with the Browns(QB- Derek Anderson who went to his only pro bowl in 2007) and at Miami Hurricanes (QB Ken Dorsey-2001 National Championship). I am still scratching my head as too why he didn’t get a head coaching offer this off season? Hmmmm (Miami Dolphins)… He had a top 5 offense with a rookie QB!!! Are u kidding me? They were dead last in offense in 2010..When ever his time comes whoever hires him will have an immediate turn around on offense…

If RG3 doesn’t go where he is surrounded by a good support system he will struggle like Vince Young, Akili Smith, and JaMarcus Russell.

racist much?WTF get out of here with comparing every black quarterback to every other black quarterback thats total freaking BS
Everyone is having Cam Newton hysteria right now and so they see RG3 as being just as good because of similar styles.

I don’t compare quarterbacks like that. Newton is unique and no quarterback in history compares to him. RG3 is unique because he is a instinctive passer and very good in the pocket yet can run as well. Robert Griffin is ahead of Newton as a passer at this stage in his development so yes people should be excited about his prospects.

They had a good o-line with 2 bookends and a bookmark(Gross,Otah, and Kalil), also 2 vet. RBs in Stewart and Deangelo, a rejuvenated number one WR in Steve Smith, 2 tight ends in Shockey and Greg Olsen

This same group that was last in offense in 2010? Add 2 ok Tightends and all of a sudden you go to 6th in the NFL offensively? Sorry but this credit goes to Newton not Greg Olsen. Sorry but Steve Smith was sleeping for 2 years and now all of a sudden he remembered how to play football? What? Newton is the difference in this equation if he wasn’t then anyone could have stepped in and produced.

but the main thing that helped him was the hire of OC Rob Chudzinski who has a history of putting up big numbers offensively with QB’s you would not expect to win with

This is what some many people are saying. Almost like everyone reads the same news paper then vomits this repeated cliche comments.

First off Chudzinski did a outstanding job. But don’t for a second believe that he threw for 4000 yards, Newton did that. Best thing Chud did was not force Newton into a stero type system which basically means Chud did his job…and coaches that do that on any level fail. You use your talent correctly. But don’t get this confused Newton would have still been productive and still been a good player even without the read option elements Chud put in. This sounds like a discredit campain… like you can’t give Newton credit for playing well on his own merit. That is like me Brees getting discredited because of the system and coaches in place in New Orleans. Ya they put him in good situations but it means nothing if you can’t excute…Newton excuted the offense and so you need to give him credit instead of find excuse as too why he did well.

Derek Anderson is no different but his fall from grace has too do with his excution not offensive philosophies. It is incredible how people can use this to justify some type of points to discredit what Newton did.

If RG3 doesn’t go where he is surrounded by a good support system he will struggle like Vince Young, Akili Smith, and JaMarcus Russell.

Now we get too the heart of the matter. Racist comments are funny now to some people. It is like a guy saying he likes butt sekk then after the comment saying “no homo” and of course than means he doesn’t mean he is gay. All you have too say is “not to be racist or anything” and then you have a green light to saying something racist.

Sorry but if all you can do is compare RG3 too a list of other black quarterbacks then sorry it is flat out with out a doubt bias and boarderline racist .

You basically discredit any of the already weak points you made and further confirm the type of off base exteme mind set that had so many saying the things they said about Newton. EVEN THOUGH it has been without a shadow of a doubt proven that these cliche go to punch line negatives have no merit…. didn’t run a pro style..didn’t play under center…. didn’t change plays at the line… Not one quarterback in the HISTORY of the NFL has failed because of this. The quarterbacks that faiiled are all because of 2 things… they can’t make the throws or they didn’t have the pocket skills/ handling quarterback pressurese!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And if you remove race from the picture when you look at Griffin you see Rich Gannon or maybe a young Mark Brunell.. because RG3 doesnt remind me of any black quarter back i have ever seen and that includes Cam Newton.!!!!!!!!!

H.O.P.

Let me give you the Deion Sanders line—Hold On Player!!! My comments are not racist, for one reason is i am also a black man. And i call it like i see it. We all have a right to our own opinion and mine is the Panthers offense even with Cam, who is a phenomenal talent, would not have been very effective without all of the veterans already in place, the free agent acquisitions, and OC Rob Chudzinski.
We will see how Cam does once Chud leaves for a head coaching spot. Just ask Phillip Rivers if he misses Chud as their offensive asst. in 2010. Rivers had one of his worst seasons statistically. Why? The chemistry was not their with the other offensive assistants. It is easier to replace talented players than to replace a very good coach. It doesn’t matter how talented you are if you don’t know where to go with the ball or understand what the other team is trying to do against you, it will be difficult to succeed.
Yes, like i said Cam was a big factor why the Panthers turned things around, but he was not the only or main reason they did. He was not out there by himself. Do you know if Cam called the plays or did Chud? I say Chud called the plays to put him in ideal situations. It is his job to do so being the OC.
RG3 is a talented young man but like i said earlier if he doesn’t get the proper help around him he will struggle.. Since you say i am racist let me use other guys to compare him to that struggled in the NFL: Joey Harrington, David Carr, Tim Couch, Andre Ware, Matt Leinart, Ryan Leaf, and Heath Shuler. The QB position is the hardest to master in the NFL. Some first round QBs get labeled with the word “Potential”, but it gets a lot of head coaches and GMs “Potentially” fired if he does pan out.
Prime example is Alex Smith(49ers) he was getting labeled as a bust his first 6 years in the NFL. 2 of his previous head coaches got fired. Now in his 7th season he had a breakout year. Why? He has had the talent around him for a couple of years, but new coach Jim Harbaugh has rejuvenated his career and had his team believing they could beat anyone. That is a good coach!!!! He put Alex in comfortable situations that fit his skills. So you gonna tell me Alex Smith was the reason for their big turnaround.. GET OUTTA HERE.. Like Cam he was not out there by himself.. So its the same thing with Cam and Chud.. I like RG3 and hopes he is successful wherever he goes, but he will need talented players and good coaching around him to be successful at the NFL level.

Next time before you step to me know the game of football first.. It is my opinion and respect it..I respect yours..Thankyou!

I don't like too point counter point but oh well ..why not
Let me give you the Deion Sanders line—Hold On Player!!! My comments are not racist, for one reason is i am also a black man. And i call it like i see it

sorry “bro” but even one regardless of the color of their skin doesn’t get a get out of jail free card when it comes to stereotypes. And considering that you are infact African American makes it even worse. Calling it how you see it?… you see it through some very tainted glasses if all you can compare him too is a list of other black quarterbacks.. you just made it sound even worse and pretty freaking embarrassing. And i would say the samething about a white person saying “white guys can’t jump”.. it is a mind set of putting people into a box that trumps any logic and too be honest i am completely blown away.

We all have a right to our own opinion and mine is the Panthers offense even with Cam, who is a phenomenal talent, would not have been very effective without all of the veterans already in place

You are basically saying Newton would have failed without these players… same OL and recievers that had one of the most worst offense in the history of football…. and now they are so great? Add two veteran TE’s and now it equals this amount of turn around?…. are you serious? Personel wise it this same personel scored 17 total TD in 2010. Add Newton and he scores 35 alone.

Many people say that Chud should get the credit. And he does deserve alot of credit. But a coach can ONLY put a player in position to succeed. The player has to take it form there and this is where you fail to give Newton credit. And this logic further propagates the concept that Newton was a “system” quarterback.. or that without this “system” he would have failed…. this is ridiculous. Newton displayed skill sets that would transend this offense… ball placement.. decision making.. pocket awareness.. play making ability…. this ISN’T system specific and a total mischaracterisation of him as a player and his skill sets… Like any quarterback you play to your strenghts and only a idiot coach like Mike Martz tries to make players fit his system instead of fit your system too your players…. Just like you would not want Joe Montana running a Deep Ball oriented passing game.. not because Joe sucks but because that isn’t his strenght.

The derek Anderson comparasion is really sad. Derek Anderson failed by his own Merits and played well because of what he did. The coaches put him in position to play well (not too meantion that Kellen Winslow left and then all of a sudden he forgot how to play?)… generalizations that must fans make without understanding the situations that brung about those senarios.

Yes, like i said Cam was a big factor why the Panthers turned things around, but he was not the only or main reason they did. He was not out there by himself. Do you know if Cam called the plays or did Chud? I say Chud called the plays to put him in ideal situations. It is his job to do so being the OC.

reading this makes you seem desperate to make a point. And honestly how can anyone take you seriously?

RG3 is a talented young man but like i said earlier if he doesn’t get the proper help around him he will struggle..

Ok so this unique in what way? What quarterback takes really bad players as a rookie and plays super duper?.. closest i can come up with is …..Newton.. just about the same offense minus two vet TE’s and goes from 32 rank offense to 6th ranked offense (by the way the best offensive turn around with a rookie quarterback in the history of the National football Leauge… number one in big plays….. Best totally QBR vs pressure ..let me repeat.. BEST in the NFL vs pressure or 5 or more rushers)… but yea other than him who takes a really bad team and makes them great offensively as a rookie quaterback?

Since you say i am racist let me use other guys to compare him to that struggled in the NFL

I am even more disappointed in you because society wants you to think this way. You may not consider yourself to be bias. But like anyone who makes a generalization and has to back track you begin to realize you need to rethink what you said…. when i look at RG3 first player i thought of was Mark Brunell and Rich Gannon.. you can only think that way if your thinking independently and not looking at race…. so why did you list a bunch of black quarterbacks that don’t even remotely share RG3’s skill sets?

If RG3 doesn’t go where he is surrounded by a good support system he will struggle like Vince Young, Akili Smith, and JaMarcus Russell

No matter how you try to clean that up you need to either look at these players alot better or think about what your typing… likely both. Vince Young was NEVER a dominate passer…. he was always in the “developing stage”…and off the field he was a nut case…. Akili Smith wasn’t even that impressive at Oregan skill set wise i didn’t like him at all because he didn’t make NFL stick throws consistantly. And Smiths pocket skills sucked beyond sucking… do i really have to talk about Russell?…………RG3 doesn’t even compare off the field too any of these guys and even Akili Smith admitted to drinkning and partying and not making football number 1… these guys are totally and completely different and not even in the same universe……………this is like me trying too compare Mark Brunell , Matt Leiner, Steve Young too The next left handed white quarterback….it is insane that you can even type this and think it could be considered serious.

Pocket skills are what cause a quarterback to fail or to succeed.. and i called this prior too the draft with Newton word for word… outlining why he would be successful and why he is more advanced than anyone knew.. and that is because of pocket skills You don’t come to this conclusion and standby it if you have a close mind or influenced by media Bias…and clearly CLEARLY you give off those signals.

That is a good coach!!!! He put Alex in comfortable situations that fit his skills. So you gonna tell me Alex Smith was the reason for their big turnaround.. GET OUTTA HERE.. Like Cam he was not out there by himself.. So its the same thing with Cam and Chud.

This would hold some water if Newton was playing with a defense like the Niners. This would hold some water if Smith didn’t account for 19 totally touch downs 17 passing 2 running…compared too Newton in his first year 21 TD throws and 14 rushing…..

You can’t even remotely compare these players because Newton put the team on his back… Smith just had to not “screw it up”… Think Newton is going to go into free agency like Smith is when Newton’s contract is up?…sigh

Yes Jim Harbaugh did a good job of protecting Alex Smith. Panthers could not hide Newton they had to put him out front and tell him to go win it.. .even when their defense could not stop anyone. This is unheard of historically at the NFL level.

Yes Smith wasn’t the reason for their big turn around.. but Newton is the defining reason why the Panthers have Hope…. while Alex Smith is wonder if his team will resign him.

I like RG3 and hopes he is successful wherever he goes, but he will need talented players and good coaching around him to be successful at the NFL level.

At what point in the history of sports has this statement even been unique? Would this not be said for anyone doing anything anywhere lol?…sigh

Next time before you step to me know the game of football first.. It is my opinion and respect it..I respect yours..Thankyou

lol
