No way the Cowboys pass on DeCastro for Jenkins

Jenkins has a lot of red flags while DeCastro is one of the safest and best prospect.

I considered mocking you DeCastro

but felt that corner was a bigger need and take away the character issues and Jenkins is arguably the top corner in the draft. Both make perfect sense in my opinion

GO PATS!!!!!!!!!

by Kick-Ass on Feb 10, 2012 3:29 PM EST up reply actions

I'd agree corner is a bigger need

but G/C is a very close second. Character issues aren’t the only concern with him, he’s also a little bit shorter than 5’10. DeCastro is being talked about as one of the best guard prospects in the last couple of year, I wouldn’t pass on him for Jenkins.

I agree DeCastro

Is absolutely one of the top guard prospects to come along in a while, and though Jenkins is a little on the short side you wouldn’t know it watching him play, he’s a shutdown corner in every sense of the word. I don’t think you would go wrong picking either guy both will be top players at their positions in the near future in my opinion.

Bengals wont trade up.

They need all of the early picks to get players who will make an impact, and like your mock shows, DeCastro falls to 17, Bengals would not hesitate to take him if he fell that far.

by Alexneyer on Feb 10, 2012 3:43 PM EST reply actions

I felt Richardson was the biggest impact player you could get

With Benson likely gone and the next best option been Scott I figured you guys need a running back pretty bad, Richardson likely won’t fall past Seattle so i had you guys trade up, with another 1st round pick i didn’t feel as though a 2nd rounder was much to give up for the best running back prospect to come out in a few years

GO PATS!!!!!!!!!

by Kick-Ass on Feb 10, 2012 3:50 PM EST up reply actions

I'm in the minority of fans that's ok with a trade up to grab Richardson

Also, I don’t think Dennard is going to be a first rounder come draft day though. He’d be a decent value in round 2, but not before.

by Animal_Like_Football on Feb 10, 2012 6:35 PM EST up reply actions

I'm on the fence

with Dennard, i still think he has all the tools to be a very good corner in the NFL but he’s not doing himself any favours with his poor showing in the bowl game and not participating in the senior bowl. I still think he’s a first round talent now but I could absolutely see him dropping come draft day.

GO PATS!!!!!!!!!

by Kick-Ass on Feb 10, 2012 6:41 PM EST up reply actions

Wouldn't be surprised

at all if that happened.

GO PATS!!!!!!!!!

I'd consider trading to 15 would cost us a 3rd and get back a fourth

But I think one of the two fall to us. If not Konz, BPA/Gilmore, Martin

by messjunk on Feb 11, 2012 12:51 AM EST up reply actions

I don't believe either

DeCastro or Richardson would fall to you guys. If Kansas City stays put at 11 I would have had them take DeCastro and Richardson probably wouldn’t have made it past Seattle. That’s why I had you trade up to 11 although I could definitely see you guys staying put also.

GO PATS!!!!!!!!!

NOWAY DENVER takes a Offensive player inthe first,

maybe even the second round. We need DT, CB, MLB, then maybe a RB. I think we wait for the 4th round to get a RB. Peasonally I think EFX trade out of the 1st and get more picks, they want to build this team though the draft. We need more picks inthis year and next.

by Bron#1 Fan on Feb 10, 2012 3:47 PM EST reply actions

No offence

but outside of the top few picks nobody can say with any certainty what will or won’t happen, for the next year or two Tebow is gonna need quite a bit of help and a big pass catching tight end would help immensely that’s why I mocked Fleener to you guys, you certainly could pass on offence and go defence early and often though like you suggest

GO PATS!!!!!!!!!

by Kick-Ass on Feb 10, 2012 3:55 PM EST up reply actions

I disagree with Bron#1 Fan.

I don’t think there’s any way we’d take a WR, a TE, a QB or a G in the first round. I think it’s unlikely we’d take a tackle. Maybe we’d draft a center. I think there’s a strong possibility the Broncos would select a RB, depending on who was there.

But they just made significant investments in the TE spot last year. I doubt they’d double down; but, who knows?

There's no way Khloe's a Kardashian. No frickin' way.

by Agent Jerry Fletcher on Feb 10, 2012 9:28 PM EST up reply actions

I wouldn't say

4th and 7th round draft choices were significant investments but i see your point. In my opinion Tebows growth is the most important factor when you look at the Broncos and giving him a 6’6 pass catching tight end while letting Green and Thomas develop certainly wouldn’t hurt. A running back would also make a lot of sense like you suggest though.

GO PATS!!!!!!!!!

by Kick-Ass on Feb 10, 2012 10:36 PM EST up reply actions

i wouldn't say any offensive player.

I wouldn’t hate a tackle if one fell to 25 to push Franklin in to guard where he was for most of his collegiate career. the center Konz would be interesting to replace Walton who has improved but doesn’t look like a long term answer at center. Also if a WR like Jefferey fell I wouldn’t hate that. And RB would make sense. It’s probably a top 5 need for this team. I too would prefer a CB, DT, S, or MLB, which I would say are our biggest needs but if the right player fell I wouldn’t care.

Having said all that, I really don’t think a TE will be the way the Broncos go in the 1st. Maybe in the 2nd round but I feel fairly confident in saying the Broncos won’t go for a TE in the first. I just don’t think there is a good enough TE in this draft to warrant the Broncos giving up on Virgil Green and Julius Thomas, who were both drafted last year by Elway and Co.

by Eddie.Teach on Feb 10, 2012 4:05 PM EST up reply actions

Maybe it's just me

But I’m a big fan of Fleener. He’s big, strong, smart, blocks well and is a very good receiver. He seems like just the type of player to help Tebow excel.

GO PATS!!!!!!!!!

by Kick-Ass on Feb 10, 2012 4:10 PM EST up reply actions

Nope!

We might take a TE in the first and if we do, we’ll take the best available (by far) in Dwayne Allen. Fleener’s not as good of a blocker and Orson Charles isn’t a good pass catcher. So, if Still and Brockers are gone, we’ll only take BPA and Fleener is 2nd round talent, Maybe we take Mike Adams, maybe Konz, possibly Minnifield but not Fleener.

Still, Brockers, Adams and Konz

are all gone in this mock draft by the time the Broncos are up so it really came down to tight end or running back, i went with tight end and Fleener is the top guy on my board at that position.

And you are a man alone if you have Fleener rated ahead of Allen. I’ve not seen anything else anywhere that has Fleener ahead of Allen.

Right, I was speaking generally and Minnifield was still there.

I’ll leave you to your opinion on Fleener but the NCAA gives out an award for the outstanding TE called the Mackey Award. Allen beat out Fleener for it. The internet is also a great source of research material and a great place to learn that Fleener isn’t as good of a blocker as Allen is.

Aaron Hernandez

won the Mackey Award and was drafted in the 4th round, while the failed drug tests may have contributed to that Jermaine Gresham and Rob Gronkowski were still regarded as better prospects at the NFL level and both were drafted ahead of Hernandez and would have been regardless of failed tests. I also never said Fleener was a better blocker than Allen, I regard Fleener as the better all around player at the pro level. Just because everybody says somebody is better than somebody else doesn’t make it so just like me saying Fleener is better than Allen doesn’t make it so either.

I am against taking Fleener because Denver are a run 1st offence. He might contribute a bit with a blocking game but he is not going to be a great blocking TE in this league, he is primarily a receiving TE.

On that basis I dont think you can pick a player with your 1st round pick who is not going to contribute on every down. The Broncos do not have the luxury of being able to do that at the moment.

If Fleener

can bulk up a little, maybe 10-15 pounds or so I could see him becoming a very solid blocker which is why i have him in the 1st round, the potential is certainly there.

not saying that cant be the case but Denver need an every down starter from day one and as you said if this pick is being made on potential he probably doesnt quite fit that mould yet.

I’m starting to lean more towards Wright/Sanu.

15 would be too high

for Wright or Sanu in my opinion, if it’s a receiver for philly as it is here i think it will be Floyd. Not a fan of Wright at all and would take Floyd over him without hesitation, I like Sanu but he’s more of a late 1st early 2nd round pick but that could change come April though.

Very happy with this. In an ideal world we trade down for an additional 2nd. Decastro being there at 17 is just the icing on the cake at that point.

Kendall Wright does not fit what the Texans do

He can’t be a #2 WR for the Texans because he’s not big enough to do Kevin Walter’s job on run plays. Walter’s main responsibility is to come back & block the backside DE. Wright would get killed doing this. I’d be more comfortable if you swapped Wright for Alshon Jeffery

I think our BPA philosophy would prevail and take Hightower over Glenn in that situation.

Dwayne Allen would be awesome

But I’m sorry that this pick has only become popular due to Ballard and Beckum getting injured in the Super Bowl. This pick would have been great before those injuries as well.

Pats

I love Chase Minnifield, but I don’t think they’d pass up on Fletcher Cox at 27th. The Pats need to build for the future at DT/DE given Wilfork, Ellis, and Warren are all over 30 and could use more talent on the inside. If neither of them but Nick Perry is available, trust me, they’ll go for Perry. He’s a true 1st rounder and can’t be allowed to drop.

I love the Seattle trade for Tannehill. It’s bold and crazy like Pete Carroll, but I’m pretty sure they would aim for high-2nd to get Tannehill rather than low-1st. I think a team eying Dwayne Allen is more likely to end up in 31st overall, just before the Giants and Colts, than a team eying Tannehill. How many teams in the high-end of the 2nd round are going to be looking for a franchise QB?

It is what it is

Honestly

even as a pats fan I have absolutely no idea what Bill is going to do. I’ve been mocking us d-line and OLB in the 1st round for the past 3 years. We still have Love Deaderick and the returning Myron Pryor on the d-line and Wilfork still has a few great years left in him yet, I think we go d-line in the 2nd or 3rd round, in this mock we end up with 3 2nds so we have plenty of ammo. I don’t think Perry fits into our defense at all, we’ll be returning to a base 3-4 this year and Perry doesn’t fit ours at all, way too small to play OLB, Bill won’t draft someone in the 1st who is only going to be in on sub packages, plus he only has the one year of top tier production which will scare some teams off as well. I think we go corner in the 1st and move McCourty to safety full time, Dowling, Minnifield, McCourty and Chung sounds good to me. Having said all that I wouldn’t be surprised with anything Bill does.

Pats don't need youth in the secondary,

they got more than enough there. They need youth at DT/DE and WR far more. We’ll see.

It is what it is

by Middlesex on Feb 11, 2012 4:56 PM EST up reply actions

Love, Deaderick, Pryor and Brace

are all 25 or under. While we could certainly use some talent on the d-line we already have youth, in my opinion we’re far more likely to bring in a couple of vetertan free agents or later round draft picks than take one in the 1st round. I fully agree with you on WR but again i think we spend a couple 2nd round picks or maybe a 2nd and a 3rd like we did at RB last year. If Bill sees Minnifield as the top player available I don’t see him passing him up just because we already have youth in the secondary.

On the Tannehill trade

I just felt that Bill will look to trade out of that pick and with a possible franchise quarterback there it made sense that he would be the guy to trade up for. Miami, Cleveland and Buffalo could all be in the market for a QB so getting in front of those and avoiding the frenzy at the start of round 2 would make sense. I could absolutely see some team trading up for Allen also though I think a team looking at a franchise QB rather than a tight end would be more likely, could go either way though.
