Mocking the Draft Live Draft Update #2

Hey guys. I wanted to give one final update before the draft happens next Friday and Saturday.

As of this point we have one unfilled spot which is the Detroit Lions

Every other team is filled and the BPAs are sent. If nobody claims the Lions, we will have to use teamwork to pick for them. After the jump see some more important information.

Star-divide

Some Rules:

  • The draft will be five rounds
  • You must be present during the draft - If you know you won't be present, let me know and withdraw from the Draft
  • For the first round you get five minutes to pick, the second round four, and all other rounds 3 minutes
  • A trade will only involve current and future picks. NO players can be traded
  • The subject line may only be used by myself and a GM when they are announcing a pick
  • When you announce a pick, you should type: The (Insert full team Name) select (insert player name)
  • All trades must be within 200 points on the trade value chart (linked below) or be approved by GM vote (all the GMs present at the draft vote yes or no)
  • If you are not present for your pick or take too long to make the pick, I will make your pick for you using your BPA list
  • On Friday, we will do the first and second rounds. On Saturday we will do rounds 3 through 5
  • The Draft will start at 7PM sharp on Friday. The Colts will go on the clock at 7:00PM EST. On Saturday, the draft will start at 2:30 PM. I have an obligation until 2 so it has to be around a 2:30 start.

Some information on Trades

  • You will be allowed to trade ONLY draft picks. You can trade current and 2013 draft picks.
  • All trades MUST be within 200 points on the Draft scale attached below. Edit: 2013 Picks are worth one round less than their 2012 value (EG: Colts trade 2013 1st round pick, Value is = to the 33rd pick)
  • When you agree to a trade with another team, you MUST type the trade at the bottom of the thread we are in with the subject line reading "Team X and Team Y have made a trade". Then in the comment box type the EXACT details of the trade.
  • If you make a trade during your pick selection, the team that takes your pick does not get a new timer.

I would entertain that trade if we had the comp picks. Not enough for Baltimore to do so though.

the starting point in my offer is a swap of 1s along with a 2nd and 4th, anything else can be negotiated

so the Ravens have a chance. email me and see if we can work something out.

I don't understand how you value the 2013 picks.

It says half of the equal 2012 pick so are you assuming the same order? Or would it make more sense if all 2013 picks had the same value per round?

I’m not actually in this draft so it doesn’t really matter to me but I’ll probably follow some of it.

by SeahawkNMD on Feb 10, 2012 3:35 PM EST reply actions

Generally accepted principle for next years picks

They are usually worth one round less than a current pick.

by Alex Swift on Feb 10, 2012 3:37 PM EST up reply actions

One round less sounds better. I am going to change that

So The Colts trading a 2013 1st round pick it is equivalent to the 33rd pick in the draft

Funny how that works.

I think it’s really stupid that you get you get to move up in the draft for free, as long as you’re patient. With this system, you can basically trade a 7th this year for a 1st in 7 years.. Its how Belichick gets all those crazy trades. In 2010, he traded the 89th pick ( late in the 3rd round) to the Panthers for their 2011 2nd round pick, which turned out to be 33rd. They moved up 56 spots, just for waiting one year

Blount doesn’t offer anything in the passing game as a receiver or a blocker. The Bucs could use a Sproles type of player, but not with a first round pick.

Vikings pick at #3 is available at a cheaper price than moving up to the Rams at #2

Everyone knows they will not take RG3. So if you want to pay less then send me an offer.

by MarkSP18 on Feb 11, 2012 6:57 PM EST reply actions

But then if you want to guarantee you get him

you need to trade with the Rams… and hope the Rams aren’t prepared to hold the rest of the NFL hostage by drafting RGIII to force trade offers.

by Will not be defeated on Feb 12, 2012 6:57 AM EST up reply actions

The Rams do have that option

But they have a huge financial investment in Bradford already. He is guaranteed 50 mil and set to make 12 mil next year. If they take RG3 and no one trades for him then they are stuck. I do not see them taking that risk.

Since the Vikings have to pay Ponder about 2.53 mil (he signed a 4 year 10.15 deal) and Webb 500k or so (he signed a 4 year 2.71 mil deal), they have a very small financial commitment at the QB position. RG3 will get something similar to what Marcel Darues received last year which was a 4 year 20.407 mil. The Vikings would be on the hook for about 8 yo 8.5 mil per year if they took RG3 and could not trade him.

Plus, if the Vikings did take RG3 and had to keep him then it would not be as bad as the Rams because Ponder is not a guarantee to pan out. He was hurt this season which is something that plagued him in college and towards the end of the year they were playing Webb and ended the season with the impression that there may be an open competition. The reality is the Vikings could actually take him themselves because their QB situation is far from settled. Since the financial commitment is going to almost equal what they had planned on giving McNabb, I do not see it is an impediment.

The Vikings are actually sitting in the cat bird seat IMHO. I think there is virtually no chance the Rams take RG3 themselves and then hold the rest of the NFL hostage. If they did and it backfired then they would be stuck with RG3 and Bradford and would have to trade one of them which would not get them back a #2 pick in an NFL draft.

The Vikings could very easily select RG3 themselves and let him Ponder and Webb battle it out. They can trade one later for a nice little package. Teams seem to overpay for QBs.

In this draft, who knows? I am just offering up a lesser package to any and all GMs in this draft interested in RG3.

by MarkSP18 on Feb 12, 2012 10:32 AM EST up reply actions

All good points

but the fact reamins that if anyone definately wants RGIII (or Andrew Luck on a chance in a million), then trading with the Rams is the only option.

Also, trading with the Rams probably comes at a similar compensation price… it is not like you/the Vikings are going to give the pick away either. So the Rams are the better and more attractive option for a trade partner IMO.

by Will not be defeated on Feb 12, 2012 5:18 PM EST up reply actions

I doubt it in the real draft.

Here it could happen. But NFL teams are not stupid. They can pay less for the same guy. So why pay more?

by MarkSP18 on Feb 12, 2012 9:50 PM EST up reply actions

once again I would like to remind everyone

that as the rams rep, I WILL take RG3 at number 2. It is going to happen, unless I get a decent trade offer.
