1) Not a bad pick at all, but I think Rieff or Martin is far more likely to be the pick if the draft fell this way

2) Do not like the pick at all. Hosley is not an early second rounder at all. Osemele, Vinny Curry, Dwight Jones are all better picks.

3) Just a little bit high for Hill. Josh Norman is probably the best pick in this situation.

Steelers

The first pick works, the second pick is awful, and the third pick only works if he can play G. With that being said, I would like this draft better:

1. Konz
2. Ta’amu
3. Audie Cole

I don’t mind Poe if the Steelers think his physical skills can be harnessed. If it fell this way, I can’t imagine a scenario where the Steelers wouldn’t take Hightower in the 2nd.

2. Hightower
3. Nix

Brockers is great value at 25

but Hightower? I don’t think he has the athleticism to play LB in a 4-3. Our problem with Mays was his lack of sideline to sideline speed, I don’t see why we would take a LB early with similar issues.

And Martin in the 3rd would be unreal. Doubt he lasts that long but one can dream

I like this draft for us.

I’ve heard a lot of good things about Hightower’s football speed and 85 tackles on a championship squad ain’t bad. Big value in the 2nd if he would be there.

That was in a 3-4 grouping though. I think he will be one of the top 3-4 ILBs as he is a run thumper and can blitz but a Mike in the Denver system will need to be quicker and have better coverage skills.

Coverage LBs always get toasted in mismatches.

I’ll take a run thumper. What we need to hope is that Rahim turns it around or we get a better FS somewhere for coverage.

Ya but to get Hightower in the 2nd is a bigger value then Brockers.

I would rather take Crick in the 2nd. Image a DL of Dumervil, Brockers, Brodrick and Crick…WOW. Then to have rotatial guys like Warren, Ayers, Thomas, and Hunter…sounds good.

by Bron#1 Fan on Feb 13, 2012 7:45 PM EST up reply actions

No need to replace Bob Ayers...

Guy had a lot of game last year. Plus, I doubt we see anything out of Warren. And I don’t much care for Hunter.

49ers Draft...

Like the Minnifield & Quick picks. Love the idea of CB,OLB & WR in that order. But not sold on the Bobby Wagner pick, just yet!!

Wagner's a STUD

But he’s not actually an OLB, he’s an ILB. I don’t see us picking an ILB for depth behind two All Pro ILB’s (Willis & Bowman) unless we lose Larry Grant to free agency, and even then I don’t think it’d be until later rounds (5th-7th).

OLB Adrian Hamilton is a small school (Prarie View A&M) prospect that I’d be curious about.

Exactly Wagner is a ILB and that's why not sold on 49er FO in picking him in 2nd round

As you said already have 2 ILB’s locked up in Bowman & Willis. Grant might test FA wanting to become a starter somewhere else. As for back up ILB you have Costanzo & Gooden that are FA’s but believe the FO will want them back this year for Sp. teams & back ups. So as for that 2nd round pick it would be wise for them to pick an OLB instead of ILB since the team is thin at that position with only two on the roster in Haralson & Smith (Brooks is a FA, hopefully gets resigned). So Hamilton will make sense there!

Thanks for the clarification on Wagner

I misunderstood and thought you weren’t sold on his ability as opposed to the Niners drafting him.

Personally I think the 3rd round is the highest he’d be drafted, and since the Niners are drafting at the end of the 2nd I could see the logic as to where he was picked in this mock, but just not the Niners picking him there.

by kailuakid9er on Feb 14, 2012 2:29 PM EST up reply actions

yea no prob on clarifying: ILB is on the low end of this team problems right now

Wagner talents are good but not what the 49ers need at this moment. And to use a 2nd round pick is hard to swallow when they need more pass rushers!!

I understand the need for pass rushers

But weren’t we all clamoring for a QB in the 1st round last year before they made the WTF (at the time) pick of Aldon Smith? If the make a bunch of headscratcher picks this year maybe it’s a good thing given last year’s draft. I’m pretty much sold on how they’re doing things.

I didn't think QB was going to be a pick in the 1st round last year...

Noone was sold on AleX, either. Personally, I thought Josh Johnson was going to miraculously be on this team last year, with the FO trading for him. But looking back I stand corrected. So as for this years off-season moves I also believe in Harbaalke. But hey I can believe all I want, pass rusher is still a necessity that should be addressed. Whether it be in-house, FA or draft hopefully they get it done.

Colts

Horrible for the second two rounds.

Gilmore is a selection made based on need. He’s not worth the 34th pick, period. He’s too erratic and goes for the big play rather than the stop. That’s not what the Colts need in their secondary. There aren’t any great picks at this point, but I think grabbing someone like Fleener, Thompson, or Osemele/Zietler makes more sense.

This is a week center class, so while Blake fills a need he doesn’t offer any value. Better options would be Chapman, Streeter, Criner, McNutt, Prater, or Heyward.

1) Dwayne Allen is the perfect pick in that situation
2) Give me Brandon Washington, Doug Martin, Ronnell Lewis, or Jared Crick
3) If you didn’t take Brandon Washington with the 2nd pick, I’m fine with Datko. Otherwise someone like Brandon Taylor or George Iloka works.

Datko in the third is a steal. It’s hard to tell with Randle because LSU could not throw the ball. And I liked Tolliver last year but apparently I was wrong as he went undrafted.

Yeah, David Wilson would be a big disappointment

Especially after Trent Richardson fell to 16 in this draft. If Richardson falls that far, they had better trade up to 15 to make sure they get him, or I might have a heart attack, lol. Also, I wouldn’t be disappointed if they drafted Melvin Ingram in this situation over Cordy Glenn.

I don’t see the Pats choosing CB Alfonzo Dennard over Fletcher Cox. Pats need youth in their DT/DE corps and Dennard just doesn’t seem like the BPA. I don’t see why the Pats double-up on DEs while forgoing a WR(another aging corps) until the 3rd.

In this draft, in the second round, i would not be surprised to see Ozzie move up for hightower or Burfiet. I have had a bit of rum and have not checked the trade values, I assume we would lose our third to move up, but if we had a third round pick and moved up, I would love to have Konz, Hightower and Quick.

Call me crazy but

I like Dennard to the Texans instead of Sanu. First round WR to the Texans has been common, but I am starting to doubt that happens. While selecting another first round CB isn’t ideal, I like the pick at 26, that kid has a physical skill set the other Texans DB’s don’t have.

Not to be picky but...

Ta’amu (rd 2-26) and Polk (3-12) are Washington, not Washington St.

Interesting that you have Lamar Miller going before Polk. Not being a homer, but from what I’ve seen Polk is a more complete back that’s been under-rated by the media-types.
