Could the #37 pick completely reshape the 2012 NFL Draft?
Forget the Browns trading both first round picks to the Rams. When evaluating NFL Draft trade charts, I realized that Cleveland giving up both the fourth and 22nd pick seems too much to give up to move up only two spots for RG3.
Then I looked at the Rams accepting the Brown's 2nd round (#37) pick in exchange for moving down from #2 to #4.
The Rams don't realy want Griffin, and by moving down only two spots, they can be assured of getting one of the two players most commonly "mocked" to them - WR Justin Blackmon or LT Matt Kalil.
The Rams would risk losing their top player, but not needing a QB, they would get the second player on their board at number four.
Additionally, the Rams would have two picks at the very top of the second round. Last year the Browns did well at #37, drafting DE Jabaal Sheard; who some thought was likely going to drafted in the first round.
Here is a list of other recent #37 picks:
| 2010 | Nate Allen | Defensive back | South Florida | Eagles |
| 2009 | Alphonso Smith | Defensive back | Wake Forest | Broncos |
| 2008 | Curtis Lofton | Linebacker | Oklahoma | Falcons |
| 2007 | Eric Weddle | Defensive back | Utah | Chargers |
| 2006 | Jimmy Williams | Defensive back | Virginia Tech | Falcons |
| 2005 | Shaun Cody | Defensive lineman | USC | Lions |
| 2004 | Teddy Lehman | Linebacker | Oklahoma | Lions |
| 2003 | Jonathan Stinchcomb | Lineman | Georgia | Saints |
| 2002 | Andre Gurode | Lineman | Colorado | Cowboys |
| 2001 | Idrees Bashir | Defensive back | Memphis | Colts |
So the question is:
#1. Is gaining just the #37pick worth potentially losing the top player on your board? I say yes.
#2. Is giving up the #37 pick worth it to get RG3? I again say yes.

It's gonna take a lot more than just the #37 pick to move up to #2 and draft RG3.
I really think we can throw the trade value chart out the window on this one. Some team is going to really want RG3 after the combine, and there’s going to be more than one team bidding for him. The new rookie salary cap really drives up the value of the top picks in draft.

It sounds good in theory
and if it was the only offer. However, when it gets put up against what teams like the Redskins might offer it could turn into chump change.

It might work if the Browns were the only bidder.
They won’t be, though. The Rams are in position to reap a huge harvest of picks for that #2 spot.

Or the Rams could ask way too much in return and people will say okay we will trade with the Vikes.
Knowing that the Rams won’t take RGIII

Do not underestimate the desperation of Shanahan. He has to win soon or he's finished as a HC.
He WILL have this pick, unless he is blown out of the water by the two #1s (one of them at position 4) that Cleveland can offer.
They must be licking their chops in St. Louis.

I would say 'fair for both'
but I also wonder if some team like Washington is willing to get into a bidding war and overpay.
Why overpay when the team right behind the Rams won't be taking a QB either?
I think pick # 3 is the pick that gets traded for RG III. If the Rams demand 2 firsts and a second to move up to number two then why not wait and see what the Vikes demand? The Rams will take Kalil and the Vikes will be left without a great pick in that 3 spot.

Because the number 2 pick may still get traded
Let’s say the Browns drop off on trade talks with the Rams and then some sneaky team (Dolphins, Redskins, Seahawks, Chiefs, etc.) swoops in and makes a trade, Browns have to wait another year for a franchise QB. It’d be smart to collude among the teams wanting RG3, but I think it’s highly unlikely that seeing as every one of these teams is competing directly against each other, that there would be some sort of trust to skip out on high/superfluous trade offers.
Also, why wouldn’t the #3 pick be just as prominent in the bidding war? If I were the Vikes and the #2 pick is used, I’d be acting like I was holding the #2 and be asking for just as much value as the Rams were. I don’t think it’ll come to that though, but the suspense is killing me :)

I wouldn't call the Vikes
not drafting RGIII a foregone conclusion. They might just give everyone the shocker. It’s not like Ponder is a sure thing.
I just realized I lobbed a softball
obviously RGIII is also not a sure thing, but it’s not implausible to see the Vikes take him at 3.
it would take both 1sts for the rams to give up kalil
