2012 NFL Mock Draft: Valentine's Day Edition
The 2012 NFL Combine is just one week away and well after a month since the 2011 regular season ended we're starting to get a good feel for the draft stock of most prospects.
So now feels like a good time to debut my second mock draft of the year, this time featuring trades. The average first round of the NFL Draft has about four to eight trades so it seems unrealistic to ignore them, although it's borderline impossible to actually accurately predict them.

Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
Pouncey-to-Giants last year was way too common.
And then we got something awesome in the real thing. They can mock us Allen, we’ll end up with Melvin Ingram or something lol

wouldn't mind him either, though he isn't projected to go in the first right now
looking at most mock drafts. He’d definitely be an upgrade over KMac though.

But last year he was a turnstile. And a $6 million hit on the salary cap.

Bills
No doubt Coples is the best 4-3 DE available. The Bills are not going to trade up for him with players like Coples, Brookers, Perry, or Mercilus available later. I could actually see them trading back for someone who say wanted Decastro, and still picking up one of those guys.
Yea
Just not Nix’s style. He values his picks too much to give up a 2nd just to move up 3 spots. In his two drafts with the Bills he has a combined time on the clock for his first round picks of like 6 seconds. Defiantly not the type of guy who is going to do a lot of trading.
Harooo
I agree bigtime on that!!!!
Buddy and Chan won’t trade up but they made trade down if no one picks Blackmon, Richardson or Krikpatrick in the first five to seven teams to pick. So I see Dallas, San Diego, Baltimore, Green Bay and maybe New England(maybe) wanting to trade up with us for their 2nd or 3rd round picks and possibly a pick from 2013 to add to the mix. But we won’t trade up that’s crazy to even think or write that. lol
Agreed. There is no way that trade happens. And there shouldn’t be. The Bills will get a fine player at #10. The only two players worth trading up for are Luck and Griffin.

The last thing we need is another DE. Poe would be a much better pick.

"If the right guy is there," to paraphrase what Carroll said.
If one or two of Cleveland, Washington or Miami aren’t pursuing a trade, that trade looks fair & makes sense, and I don’t think it’s beyond them to do it. It also assumes Seattle will pick 12th; 50-50 chance they get 11th instead.
But I’m expecting one of them to also look to trade up, and that probably seals it for Seattle. I’m basing this on the notion that Manning goes to a new team, which paired with Flynn eliminates two teams. But since Oakland is not far behind Miami as a landing spot for Flynn, there could still be two others in front of us.
Of course Washington could like Tannehill. But best-case scenario is we’d be competing against one other interested party.

Panthers
I don’t realy like it…. I wouldn’t mind trading down and getting J. Jenkins or just drafting Kirkpatrick
by rscott94 on Feb 14, 2012 7:40 PM EST via mobile reply actions
As a Bills fan
I’m trying to figure out the reason to jump ahead of you guys. If Coples is there do the Panthers take him so unquestionably that we would have to jump ahead?
Harooo
i think the point was to take him from the Jags, who would take him without the trade
I wanna be the very best, like no one ever was
Well obviously
But not being a Panthers fan I am not well briefed on their perceived needs. That was what I was looking for, that and do Panthers fans see Coples as someone they would want on their team. I’ve gotten plenty of Bills fans perspectives would like to get an idea of how others view him. Again thanks for pointing out the obvious though.
Harooo
The majority of Panther fans do not want Coples
We have a good young stable of DEs (the oldest being 26). The vast majority want to either trade back or take a CB (or Blackmon if he happens to fall)
I wanna be the very best, like no one ever was
Thanks
As we need a RDE drafting one early is likely not having to give up a second to get that guy would be great.

Dolphins & Jags
Dolphins don’t need a running back at all and I doubt the Jaguars would take Wright over Blackmon.
you are telling a Jaguar fan what the Jags will do? lol
truth be told, I have a gut feeling Kendall Wright might be more likely for the Jaguars even if both were available and Jags were going WR.

Think that depends on who they go after in free agency
If the Jaguars go out and get someone like Marques Colston then a deep threat #2 makes a lot of sense.
I just want someone to catch the ball

the 49ers just will not make that trade
baalke aren’t going to mortgage the future on Justin Blackmon. His ceiling is Calvin Johnson’s floor, and you just don’t make that kind of trade for that kind of player.
I had a 49ers fan talking to me about trading up to 3rd overall to take Blackmon
I knew he was stupid, but it still kind of put the idea in my head. Every year it seems like there’s a team that thinks they’re a player away from being champions.
The 49ers
are about 3-4 players away from being champions. Even then, that might be generous. We have no depth at alot of positions, and that really poses problems if you want to be legitimate down the stretch, season after season. I mean, look at the G-men. Some of their front-7 personnel go down, they couldn’t stop losing. They get fit, they go on a roll and win it all (and deservedly so). It works on occasion, but that kind of ‘cross-your-fingers’ roster rarely breeds continual post-season threats.
The 49ers already have Justin Blackmon on the team
Except he goes by the name of Michael Crabtree

Agreed. Absolutely no chance they make that trade.
Especially seeing as he doesn’t give them a great redzone target, which they desperately need.

Honestly...Pioli (IMO) loves to trade down..
I doubt if he would ask for that much..Providing the lineman he wants isn’t there..But 20 spots is a hell of a drop..
Chiefs
LOVE the trade down for KC… both likely and beneficial.
Poe is an OK choice, but I would prefer OL or TE there
by stagdsp on Feb 14, 2012 7:53 PM EST via Android app reply actions
its not likely
if anything, you’ll be trying to jump back into the first to pick up a QB so that matt cassel can be resigned to backup where he belongs.
pioli is MUCH more likely to trade down than trade up
by stagdsp on Feb 14, 2012 9:53 PM EST via Android app up reply actions
it's kinda hard though
to make that kind of trade against a team that has the current Coach and GM of the Year in the same war room.
thats a realistic looking trade that I could see scott pioli doing!
chiefs then would go with cassell at QB this year and next year try to package picks for there QB of the future. exactly the kind of trade I could see the chiefs doing.
problem is...
you need to other franchise to be stupid. This WR class isn’t as dynamite as everyone would like to make it out to be.Sure, there’s some talent, but let’s not pretend that a Megatron exists anywhere in the 1st, because he doesn’t. There isn’t a WR anywhere in the 1st rd worth making that trade, and the 49ers F.O knows it….
You dont know they know that.
You hope you think you’re right and they believe you. I could see SF doing that. You win GM of the year because your team plays well. And you won because the guy drafted in 2005 suddenly lived up to his potential and did well.
Alameda Ta'amu is too much of a reach for the Texans at #26.
He’s not an ideal 3-4 NT. If all those top WRs are gone, the Texans will probably trade back out of the 1st round.

Hey correct me if I'm wrong
but Brockers would only be an end in a 3-4 right and on a 4-3 team he would kick to the inside right?
Jenkins and Glenn are pretty much the standard picks for us at this point
And at that point in the draft, I’d pretty much take them. I’m halfway expecting them to be our first two picks this upcoming draft simply because the Bengals are rather transparent about what they’re going to do.
"It’s time people started realizing just how good a player Carlos Dunlap already is, and that starts with the Bengals. They gave him a season-high 58 snaps and what was the result? Carnage on the right side of the Seattle line." -Pro Football Focus
Yeah, I wouldn't be real excited about either pick.
I’d rather they trade up into the early teens to grab DeCastro or Kirkpatrick in this scenario.

Cowboys fan commenting on what the Eagles would do
Although they need a line backer, I don’t see Andy Reid breaking his trend of never drafting one in the first round. During his tenure, the Eagles have never spent a first round pick on a LB, S, or RB. In my opinion, they’re more likely to take a WR, DT, or OL-these are positions they have drafted in the first round before.
"The tone is business," Garrett said. "Let's get to work. The Giants are going to be at the Meadowlands on Sunday at 4:15. They're an awfully good football team. We have to get ready for them."
Eagles fan commenting on what the cowboys fan thinks the eagles would do
Normally, I would say that you are absolutely correct. However, Reid’s job is truly on the line for the first time ever this season, so he has a lot riding on it, and will get crushed by the fans/media if he doesn’t take a linebacker and the linebackers underperform again this year. The only way I see him not taking a linebacker is of Jackson does not come back and a premier wr is available, or someone like coples drops. Reid is pretty strange with his drafts, though (26 year old guard in the first last year who many drafts had projected to the eagles….in the third.), and a lot obviously depends on what they do in free agency.

A PAckers trade would be interesting.
Questions: Is Perry better than Ingram? How would Brockers fit as a 3-4 DE, and would he be a better value there?
Go Suns, Packers, Jays, and Huskers!
Read my thoughts on Creighton University athletics at Creightonian.com
I also edit things at Ridiculous Upside. Check it out.
Broncos
I dont know a lot about Ingram only what I have read. He is listed as an OLB but because of his size I presume this is being projected for a 3-4 grouping.
Could he translate to being a 4-3 DE and would he be purely a situational pass rusher or could he be an every down DE in the 4-3 grouping the Broncos run and upgrade Ayers?
One concern I do have is reading that he rarely started at College level. The Broncos need that 1st round pick to be a guy who contributes on every down early on in their career.
"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson
Love the Chiefs trade and the pick
Wouldn’t mind Dwayne Allen there either
Me and Matt Cassel just - you up, dog!
Vikings
The Seahawks deal is not enough. First the Vikings will not give up two picks.
Look at what the Giants gave up to get Eli Manning. They gave their 1st & 3rd in 2004 and their 1st & 5th in 2005. And that was just to three spots lower for the Chargers.
If the Seahawks want to come up to #3 from #12 the Vikings will want their 1st and 2nd this year plus their 1st and 4th or 5th next year. There could be players the Vikings would take from the Seahawks too (doubtful but you never know).
For reference, by draft value chart the deal equates to favor the Vikings by ~130 points
or about the equivalent of a 3rd round pick.
3rd overall is not 1st overall. Chargers dropped down to 4th. And the Giants’ ransom was a bit atypical; it’s unreasonable to expect any trade to approximate that one.
Griffin’s pretty lucrative and if he drops to 3rd there may be enough competition that Minnesota can command more than that deal, but that’s a fair deal. What you’re asking for amounts to about what it would take to trade up to 1st overall in a non-Andrew Luck draft. It’s pretty unreasonable to expect that.
Head of catering.

mark is right
A 2013 pick doesn’t have the same value as a 2012 pick. I drops to the value of the 32nd pick, or maybe a bit more.
Ahhhh, you guys are right. I'm miscalculating. I hate the league's valuation
methodology, of a future pick being worth one round less. It’s pure stupidity. The intrinsic value of the pick doesn’t change. I know that some teams know this, but the market sets the price and when the market’s perception is a future pick is worth one round lower, then it’s traded at the value of one round lower.
I hate it. And have for a while, so that I actually looked up this trade according to my valuation (the 16th pick of a given round) rather than how they do it.

if that is all it takes to trade up for RGIII, the Dolphins should easily match the picks and being that we are drafting earlier, our picks are better and we should get the deal
