2 round mock 3.0

I will be doing trades, I am not using a trade-value chart so I may over-under pay for picks, if so sorry. I will try to make this mock a little interesting.

Star-divide

ROUND 1

1. Indianpolis Colts: Andrew Luck, QB

Pretty obvious

2. St. Louis Rams: Matt Kalil, OT

I think protecting Bradford's blindside for years to come is more important than acquiring an extra 2nd. They need to make sure Bradford has protection.

3. Minnesota Vikings: TRADE to Washington Redskins: Robert Griffin III, QB

Minnesota receives the 2012: 1, 2 and 2013: 2, 4. Good trade for both sides

4. Cleveland Browns: Quinton Coples, DE

You always need pass rushers and getting the top pass rusher in the draft is a smart decision. The WR class is deep and the pass rush class is not. I also think that Coples has a strong showing at the combine

5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Morris Claiborne, CB

Improve that backfield

6. Minnesota Vikings, from WAS: Riley Reiff, OT

Need a good tackle to protect Ponder.

7. Jacksonville Jaguars: TRADE to Chicago Bears: Justin Blackmon, WR

The Jaguars get 2012: 1, 3 2013: 2,4 for the #7. The Jags don't really have a great value in terms of need and players. The Bears are also in dire need for a WR and they can get the top one on the board for not giving up too much.

8. Miami Dolphins: Michael Brockers, DT

This kid can line up opposite Cameron Wake or line up in the interior of the line. The Dolphins get a much needed pass rusher, and is one of the best on the board.

9. Carolina Panthers: Dre Kirkpatrick, CB

Improve that CB spot

10. Buffalo Bills: Melvin Ingram: DE/OLB

Fits system better than Upshaw since the Bills play a 4-3

11. Kansas City Chiefs: David DeCastro, OG

The O-Line is a major need and they get the best lineman on the board.

12. Seattle Seahawks: Nick Perry, OLB/DE

USC match between Carol and Perry. The Seahawks need a primary pass rusher and this man can provide that

13. Arizona Cardinals: TRADE to Cincinnati Bengals: Trent RIchardson

Cardinals get 2012: 1, 3 2013: 3 and give up the 2012: 1, 5 An equal trade for both sides the Bengals get their RB of the future, and this way the Bengals will become one of the best offenses in the league. After this pick they can start to focus more on the D and making that Championship caliber.

14. Dallas Cowboys: Janoris Jenkins, CB

Best CB on the board and this guy has turned his life around.

15. Philadelphia Eagles: TRADE to Detroit Lions: Jonathan Martin, OT

Eagles get 2012: 1, 2 It is surprising that Martin lasted this long. The Lions need to make sure Stafford can stay healthy and the best way to do that is by getting Martin, arguably the 2nd best OT in the draft. For the Eagles, 15 is a little high for an ILB, usually ILBs go in the late 1 or in the 2nd.

16. New York Jets: Courtney Upshaw, OLB

This was a great situation for the Jets. If they don't get Upshaw they would have gotten Martin if not Martin then Upshaw. The Jets would love it if the board fell this way.

17. Arizona Cardinals, from CIN: Mike Adams, OT

They almost got lucky enough to get the man they would have taken at 13 but they another great value at 17.

18. San Diego Chargers: Whitney Mercilus, OLB, DE

the Chargers need more pass rushers and Mercilus could develop into a monster for them

19. Jacksonville Jaguars, from CHI: Michael Floyd, WR

get a good WR and picked up extra picks. I would consider this a good situation so far for the Jags.

20. Tennesse Titans: Peter Konz OC

INterior O-Line is needed

21. Cincinnati Bengals: TRADE to Baltimore Ravens: Luke Kuechly, ILB

Bengals get 2012: 1, 3 2013: 3, 4 The Bengals essentially counter-balance their trade with the Cardinals and get their picks back. There is no tremendous value available to the Bengals here so I see the Ravens trading up. They want Ray's successor and Luke would be a great guy to fill Ray's shoes (of possible).

22. Cleveland Browns: Kendall Wright, WR

Need to create some opportunity for Colt

23. Philadelphia Eagles, from DET: Dont'a Hightower, ILB

They lost Kuechly unforunatey but still put themselves in a position to grab one of the top 3 LBs in the draft. HIghtower is no bum and the Eagles will be happy to get him.

24. Pittsburgh Steelers: Vontaze Burfict, ILB

ILB is a huge need for the Steelers and unfortunately for them Hightower is gone. They do need an ILB and Burfict is certainly a 1st round talent. The Steeler's current group of guys will make Burfict more mature.

25. Denver Broncos: Devon Still, DT

Biggest need for the Broncos is filled

26. Houston Texans: Alshon Jeffrey, WR

The Best WR available on the board

27. New England Patriots: Fletcher Cox, DT

A good choice for Bill and the Pats, improves that front 7

28. Green Bay Packers: Andre Branch, DE

They need someone to rush the passer, they really missed Cullen Jenkins and Branch should be a good fix.

29. Cincinatti Bengals, from BAL: Cordy Glenn OG

Improve the O-Line and make their Offense very respectable.

30. San Francisco 49ers: Mohammad Sanu, WR

Need another WR to help Alex Smith in the passing game.

31. New England Patriots: Mark Barron, SS

It is a question as to why the Pats don't trade out. The reason why is because I think BIll realizes Brady is nearing the end of his career, he has accumulated enough picks to make a solid impact and improvement on his Defense.

32. New York Giants: Dwayne Allen TE

Just the popular pick and it makes sense considering the Giants do not have any elite TE

ROUND 2

1. St. Louis Rams: Chase Minnifield, CB

2. Indianapolis Colts: Kelechi Osemele, OG

3. Minnesota Vikings: Alfonzo Dennard, CB

4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Zach Brown, OLB

5. Cleveland Browns: Lamar Miller, RB

6. Jacksonville Jaguars: Stephen Gilmore, CB

7. Minnesota Vikings: Nick Toon, WR

8. Carolina Panthers: Brandon Thompson, DT

9. Buffalo Bills: TRADE to Cleveland Browns: Ryan Tannehill, QB

Bills get 2012:3 2013: 1

10. Miami Dolphins: Dontari Poe, NT

11. Seattle Seahawks: Nick Foles, QB

12. Kansas City Chiefs: Zebrie Sanders, OT

13. Dallas Cowboys: Brandon Washington, OG

14. Philadelphia Eagles: Markelle Martin, FS

15. New York Jets: Andrew Datko, OT

16. New England Patriots: Rueben Randle, WR

17.San Diego Chargers: Ronnel Lewis, LB

18. Chicago Bears: Kevin Zeitler, OG

19. Philadelphia Eagles: Tommy Streeter, WR

20. Tennesse Titans: Jayron Hosley, CB

21. Cincinnati Bengals: Leonard Johnson, CB

22. Detroit Lions: Lavonte David, LB

23. Atlanta Falcons: Coby Fleener, TE

24. Pittsburgh Steelers: Alameda Ta'amu, NT

25. Denver Broncos: Josh Norman, CB

26. Houston Texans: Jamell Fleming, CB

27. New Orleans Saints: Bobby Wagner, OLB

28. Green Bay Packers: Vinny Curry, OLB

29. Baltimore Ravens: Stephen Hill, WR

30. San Francisco 49ers: Trumaire Johnson, CB

31. New England Patriots: Billy Winn, DE

32. New York Giants: Juron Criner, WR

Jags

Love the trade but can almost guarantee Bears fans will hate it. A second and 2 thirds to move up 12 spots in a very deep WR draft is a bit much IMO. I mean Floyd + the picks is definitely preferable in my mind to just Blackmon. But I will not complain seeing as I find this to be a total steal for JAX.

As for the picks:
As of right now, I think Kendall Wright is more likely than Floyd for the Jags. I like both guys and would not be upset with either, but I do happen to prefer Wright and think Gene Smith will as well.
I am a big fan of the Gilmore pick. However, I definitely think Vinny Curry warrants some serious consideration at the pick.

Lovely trade

just lovely. But, why would the Bears want Blackmon so badly? He has us basically switching WR picks with Chicago and gaining three picks.

Also, I agree about Wright vs. Floyd. I think it depends on what we are looking for. Floyd is much taller. Wright is a bit faster.

by CheapSeat on Feb 15, 2012 10:28 PM EST up reply actions

My reasoning

Blackmon is definitely the best receiver in this class and is worth a Top 10 pick pending 40 time (I think he will run a 4.5 so…). I think the Bears will want the best possible receiver who can make an impact immediately – Blackmon is easy No.1 on that team. With retaining Forte they can seriously improve everything they have on O through that trade and pick and could become Sb contenders.
Basically I think they will fall in love with Blackmon – his price isn’t tooo steep as well

by indycolts21 on Feb 15, 2012 10:39 PM EST up reply actions

Floyd/ Wright

Are good too but I think they Blackmon’s appealing in almost every aspect and the Bears will not want that pick to bust

Panthers

not bad, i’d give it a B-

Would really like to trade down in 1st or 2nd to get a 3rd.

Bengals

Great Job!! I actually like this very much, unfortunately I do not know if they’d be wiling to trade within the division.

by biggie22 on Feb 15, 2012 9:48 PM EST reply actions

Ravens Bengals trade would be to a mutual benefit here

Fantastic Draft! If they came away with Richardson and were able to trade down to get the same player I keep seeing mocked to them at 21, I would be stunned. Great job.

Cardinals

Like the first round scenario. Pick up an extra 3rd round pick this year and next by moving back four spots & still draft a tackle which is by far their most critical need at the moment (QB arguments aside). Could also see them go OLB or WR here.

by hadrarius on Feb 15, 2012 9:56 PM EST reply actions

Agreed

I think most fans are happy when their team is mocked to trade back. If we did trade back to 17, I would be happy with either Mercilus or Adams. Good value their, and both have great potential. One thing I would note: I don’t think Whiz would easily give up his 5th rounder, given his track record of 5th round draft choices, lol.

A general question about RG-III and trading up

Why is it that like every mock has the Skins trading up for Griffin? It’s WAYY more likely that the Browns do. The Vikings/Rams would also far prefer to do that so they don’t trade down too far and miss their guys. CLE has expressed interest in Griffin, and now has a QB who is a former 3rd rounder and regressed this season and also could have long term concussion issues (McCoy). Plus the Browns have the #22 pick which is better than the Skins’ 2nd rounder.

Tajh Boyd and Dre' Ellington are the future.
Brandon Jennings; Just keep waiting people.

by BlackPack-fan on Feb 15, 2012 9:59 PM EST reply actions

IMO

the redskins will just want to outbid the Browns because Shanahan probably sees his window closing. And the Browns probably don’t want to give away both firsts – they could also get Tannehill later on

by indycolts21 on Feb 15, 2012 10:18 PM EST up reply actions

But you are aware that it will take two #1s to get the pick, right?

See the Michael Vick, Eli Manning, and even the Jay Cutler (I know that one’s not really analogous but still…) trades. Stl. and Minn are in for something of a bidding war.

I would love for the Vikes to be the trade partner.

There’s so many holes on that defense. Our main need is OT and if STL keeps Kalil then it’d be nice to get more value with the Reiff pick. I don’t like the Toon pick in the 2nd around. I think there’s other ways to go: maybe OG or CB in the 2nd around. Also, the WR class is pretty deep and there’s not much seperation from one player to the next, IMO.

I completely agree

& as a Skins & an RGIII fan I would love to see Griffin in B&G but I don’t think he makes it past the Browns. I think that Holmgren tipped his hand when he hired Brad Childress as his OC. I think that Childress’s offensive scheme relies on a dual threat type of QB. He was McNabbs QB coach in Philly & drafted Tarvaris Jackson when he was in Minn. & I think that he was hired with the thought that Robert Griffin III would be his QB.

by ENsDad27 on Feb 20, 2012 5:51 PM EST up reply actions

So where does Favre fit in this theory of yours?

Or Sage Rosenfels?

by NMVike on Feb 20, 2012 11:09 PM EST up reply actions

I thought that Favre was brought in to be the last piece for the Vikings to make a run in the Play-offs

not as a long term franchise QB. I didn’t know that Childress had drafted Sage Rosenfels. It’s just my opinion & I actually hope that I am wrong, that Holmgren sticks with his conservative MO & as I said above I hope that RGIII is wearing B&G next year.

by ENsDad27 on Feb 21, 2012 8:44 PM EST up reply actions

The Childress hire doesn't affect the Browns draft strategy IMO

I will not be surpised at all if Childress has a limited role in that organization. He might not even call all the plays.

Favre and Sage were not drafted by Chilly. But he did bring in both QB’s and neither have ever been confused with being a dual threat type. They also brought in Gus Frerotte. The drafting of TJack and Tyler Thigpen does support your theory. I just don’t think that Chilly has that much of a say in what Holmgren wants to accomplish in Cleveland.

--Vikings DE Jared Allen

by NMVike on Feb 22, 2012 11:34 AM EST up reply actions

I don't think that Childress will have any say in who the Browns draft.

I think that the Browns have already decided that they are going after RGIII & picked an OC whose scheme fits RGIIIs’ skill set. As I said above tho, I really hope that I am wrong. As a Vikes fan who knows Childress well, if you were going to draft Robert Griffin III who would you want as his OC & would Brad Childress make sense ??

Broncos

I could live with this. I’d be really happy if Still fell to us, so I’m in full agreement on that pick. Don’t know much about Norman, so I can’t comment on him very much, but if Doug Martin were available at that point in the draft I’d love to snag him.

Really interesting mock.

Lots of chalk, but the trades make it interesting.

I think you’re overvaluing all the wide receivers. And I don’t believe it’s clear that Blackmon is the best receiver in the class.

Pats

You were doing so well with the Pats going for Fletcher Cox. Then you had the Pats go for it at 31 without any trade, and had them take an injury-prone player capable of playing SS and only SS who’s missing the Combine, considered overrated by some, and oh yah plays SS while the Pats already got a decent SS. Pats aren’t going for him.

The Reuban Randle pick is alright by me, as the Pats badly need both talent and youth at WR. I’m not sure if I’d take DT/DE Billy Winn over DT/DE Jared Crick. I consider Crick amongst my mid-to-late 2nd round steals.

It is what it is

Seahawks

We need a secondary pass-rusher, not a primary pass-rusher. Chris Clemons has produced double-digit sacks in consecutive years but nobody else is getting to the QB. Perry may be the pick in the 1st but Carroll hasn’t drafted a USC player earlier than the 6th yet and he wouldn’t be the primary pass-rusher.

I think Foles is a big reach in the 2nd but the pick definitely fits a need.

Bills

Oooohh…. Interesting.
I have to say, that second round trade definitely brings up an interesting philosophy.
With Matt Barkley and a number of promising QB prospects coming up in the 2013 draft, it might be a good idea to stock up on 1sts in case Fitz doesn’t work out next year and we want to draft a franchise QB.
The only downside is that I don’t know how I feel about the Bills leaving the second round with only Melvin Ingram. But overall I can’t complain about the trade.

Texans, like Jeffery in the 1st, hate any CB in the 2nd

Texans will not draft any CBs at all when they drafted two last year. With Ta’amu off the board, they’ll go with Josh Chapman to fill the hole at NT

Love the 2nd pick, but hate the trade. I don’t see us giving up those picks to trade up for someone like Kuechly. If we were going to trade up for somebody my guess it would be somebody like Adams or Floyd.

I like the 2nd round choice

but I doubt the Steelers will take Burflict unless he fell to the 3rd or 4th round. There will be enough drama in the locker room trying to get Ben and Todd on the same page without taking on a headcase. If they were unable to trade up for Kuechly, I think Glenn or Jeffery would be far more likely at 24 or they would trade down.

49ers probably won't pick Sanu in 1st round

He’s not fast enough and doesn’t separate from press coverage very well. He’ll struggle against NFL-caliber press coverage.

IF they go WR in the 1st round I think it’d be Rueben Randle or they might reach for Stephen Hill.

Vikings
  1. will be worth more than two 2nds and a future 4th. But with your scenario I think you missed the mark by selecting Toon in the 2nd. Yes WR is a need, but I expect that to be addressed in FA. The way your board played out you should have given the Vikes Zack Brown and Stephen Gilmore in the 2nd. Maybe Gilmore/Brown and Poe, as the Vikes are rumored to be very interested in Poe.

I am assuming Hillis is NOT resigned. IMO, RGIII drops to #4 and the Browns trade him away to either the Skins, Seahawks, Dolphins, or Jets. I would prefer the Skins, since we wouldn’t drop back that far, but the Phins are agood spot also. What would I do with the new spot? WR or DE.

are switching to a 4-3 def so do u think brockers has the speed to play 4-3 de we are set a dt and since we are switching to a 4-3 we wont be able to use poe who is a 3-4 nt i would say OT, S, CB, or TE would be the pick in the 2nd

Dolphins

As Phinatic13 said the fins are switching to a 4-3 and Brockers is a DT in that defense not an end so he wouldn’t fit in. I would of rather had Melvin Ingram or Johnathon Martin. Once again dolphins are switching to a 4-3 so they don’t need a NT. A better pick would be Zebrie Sanders, Coby Fleener, or Brandon Washington. Overall great mock with all the trades and stuff but the picks aren’t right for the Dolphins.
