On Carolina's draft

Not a big fan of Coples; I saw his senior season, and don’t like how he seemed to coast through it, and he’s no Julius Peppers. I understand the pick, just don’t really personally like it. The Burfict pick really confuses me. Carolina probably needs a linebacker, but a weak-side one to back up Thomas Davis if he gets hurt again, not a middle linebacker where we have Beason coming back. Last two picks are people I don’t really know, but I don’t have a problem with either pick.

Agree

I’d rather see Ingram or Brockers but there is no denying Coples was a BEAST in the Senior Bowl. As for the 2nd round, it will not be a LB. It has to be a safety. I’m thinking a SS b/c Godfrey is really a FS and Martin is terrible. Oline could be a possibility, but with Schwartz and Garry Williams and Otah coming back, this allows Bell to move to guard where he’s much more suited.

That said, if Blackmon is somehow still on the board, I’d take him 1st b/c he’s too good to pass on, but Gettis has to get a shot over Jeffery.

Zach Brown

If he’s available in the 2nd for us, I’d take him but otherwise, I’m taking Antonio Allen. He’s a killer and we need that to make receivers think twice about coming over the middle

Buffalo's Draft - Love it!

If it turns out that my beloved Bills get Upshaw (my favorite player in the draft), Curry (great upside), Fleener (my second favorite player in the draft), and Quick (gonna be good). I will cry tears of joy.

by rjryan on Feb 2, 2012 2:52 PM EST reply actions

Also

I believe Buffalo has another pick in the 5th from the Marshawn Lynch trade. I’m not 100% certain, but I believe so.

by rjryan on Feb 2, 2012 2:54 PM EST up reply actions

Just an update to the Bills needs

Technically we are going back to a 4-3, so our new needs on defense become:
4-3 RDE (Biggest need)
4-3 SLB
CB
4-3 LDE

The players you picked were actually good fits in either 3-4 or 4-3, so it worked out great for Buffalo. But if you change things up in the future, keep our new needs in mind.

Yes, it was going to be a 5th or 6th, likely to be a 5th.

This would be a terrfic draft for the Bills.

keenum

Am I tghe only one that thinks Case Keenum would fit perfectly into Gailey’s system..

by sfg79 on Feb 3, 2012 9:25 AM EST up reply actions

I don't think he'll fit in this system

Because for one he’s 6’1 and we need a tall QB who is mobile so if at any time during the game when it’s 4th and 1 this guy can utilize his body to stretch for that extra yard to two. I don’t see Keenum being able to do that for us don’t get me wrong I think he is a awesome QB but not for us.

For the Broncos

If Brockers and Still are available and we pass them up? I’ll be throwing things. Interior pressure is a big thing Denver needs, and Brockers and Still would do that.

I love the rest of the draft. Doug Martin is a favorite of mine, Crick would be a solid addition, And getting any Wisconsin OL is fine by me

by Scotty Payne on Feb 2, 2012 2:52 PM EST reply actions

I was about to post the same thing.

Couldn’t imagine passing on Ingram either. I know we need CB’s, but when there are other players available who are higher rated and fill a need, we need to take them.

I am good with the rest of the draft. Good job Seton Hall and Steelers

Corner is a need, but have to build the front 7 first

Add Ingram, Brockers or Still and i’ll be jumping for joy. Too be honest i’d be surprised if all 3 were even there

I'm OK with Minnifield...

Like everyone else, I’d prefer Still or Brockers but Minnifield makes a lot of sense, too. I might not waste a pick on another QB but 5th – 7th rounders are such “who cares” picks that it doesn’t matter. and Weeden might be an OK backup.

There are no apostrophes in plurals.
A lot is two words. Allot can be one word but it has another meaning.
The only time you really want to use "myself" is when you are the recipient of your own action. Usually you're better off using "me."
Your is not the correct contraction of you are. The word you're looking for is you're.
It's anyway, not anyways.
But if you only remember one thing...
There are no apostrophes in plurals.

I would

say DeCastro’s BPA there more than Floyd, but that’s my opinion. AZ needs a 2nd WR that can be a deep threat to open up things for Fitz. I don’t think that’s what Floyd is, but I could be wrong.

I guess I’m confused that OT is the Cards biggest need, and it doesn’t get addressed at all in this draft.

In round 1 I’d prefer DeCastro

In round 3, I like Winn a lot actually, but I wouldn’t mind Adcock either.

Round 4. I’m sorry, just no. Carder is small (er) and is a WILB, the Cards have that in Washington. Not a fan of Carder at all in general, but the size issue and lack of physicality are my issues with him. I like Joe Adams, Bequette, Datko, maybe Nico Johnson there.

Round 5, no opinion, but if we are going DeCastro in the first, don’t need another OG. Marvin Jones, Whitley or Henry look good.

Hey SHAS, you suck so bad at this.

/kidding

Awesome, awesome job for the Giants. I’d cream my pants after the first three rounds as is.

Not a fan of LaMichael James until the early 3rd, so that was a steal and half at the bottom of the 3rd. I have Zach Brown as a top 20 player and Dwayne Allen as a 1st rounder, so both of those were absolutely perfect.

I haven’t seen too much of Tanner Hawkinson, so couldn’t tell you too much about him. I know I’d rather have Chandler Jones (might lose Osi, and Jones’ stock is rising incredibly fast), Coryell Judie (I think he’d be a real good slot CB), Keenan Robinson (we need a SAM LB and he has the physical tools), Ryan Broyles (Manningham might be gone, and I think Broyles in the 4th could be a steal), or Rokevious Watkins (I’ve been a big proponent of bringing in some fatties to the OL in the mid rounds to beef up our run blocking)

Leonard Johnson I have rated as my 9th best CB, and he’s a baller. Mike Mayock likes him as well.

Wonderful wonderful draft.

Brockers is a top 10 player

so while Brown is good, the first rounder was a bit of a whiff. Tho the truth is Brockers has no business being that late.

Shoulder injuries are different

My mom had shoulder surgery for a torn rotator cuff and one of the things she learned from it is that doctors say once you have shoulder surgery you are prone to further shoulder injuries.

by Joeb'n777 on Feb 2, 2012 11:17 PM EST up reply actions

That's beside the point

It’s not about being able to deal with pain, it’s about the fact that shoulder injuries a prone to be recurring injuries. This is evident in the fact that Datko has missed time the last two seasons with the shoulder injury and has underwent MULTIPLE surgeries on his shoulder.

surgery is done to repair things

you have to do your HW on the injury, so if it checks out Datko is probably less likely to re-injure his shoulder then any other player is likely to injury theirs.

Right

A smart and thorough rehab should make the shoulder stronger than it was before.

The question is how well it was rehabbed.

If we don't get DeCastro

I doubt we take a guard in the first.

Also, I know it’s the easy and popular thing to mock Jenkins and other questionable character guys to us, (and we do have a lot of fans who actually like the pick), but I really think they are slowly trying to get away from that image, so unless he absolutely wows them in the interview, I don’t know if that pick will happern either. Marvin, Zimmer, and Gruden seem to have a lot more imput in players decisions lately (proof last year when they chose Dalton over Mallet, and Mike Brown really wanted us to take Mallet)

Just a note

Buffalo went to a 4-3 this week. That’s doesn’t necessarily make the Upshaw / Curry picks invalid. But Buffalo’s needs are 2 rush OLB’s anymore. They need DE’s, and a 4-3 OLB.

Why?

You guys had a DLine that could wreck faces if Dareus could get consistent and Kyle Williams returns to 2010 form.

Because Kyle Williams was a poor fit at nose tackle. PFF had him as one of the best DT’s last year, when Buffalo went back to a 4-3. Williams is best at 1- to 3- technique.

Dareus can play over the center out to 5 technique.

Playing both at DT’s, and not limiting one as a NT, makes sense.

Seahawks

If Lynch is retained I don’t see them drafting an RB in the first, though Richardson at 12 is a steal. Carroll said he wants to improve the speed in the front 7, so (based on who’s available in this mock) I’d expect them to target a guy like Ingram with this pick.

Don’t see them taking a QB like Foles – PC wants a QB with a plus deep ball that won’t turn the ball over, neither of which describes Foles. I’d see them targetting a guy like Cousins or Osweiler in R2 or 3.

I’d put the Seahawks needs as: QB, pass rush (from any of 3tech DT, DE or WLB – I expect a couple of picks spent here), backup RB, MLB, DB depth.

by Senepol on Feb 2, 2012 3:33 PM EST reply actions   1 recs

Seahawks picks

Based on this board I’d see them doing something like:
1) Ingram (DE/OLB)
2) One of Martin/Wilson/Polk (RB) (though they might take Osweiler or Cousins here)
3) Osweiler (QB)
4) Sean Spence (WLB)
5) Chandler Jones (DE)

by Senepol on Feb 2, 2012 3:40 PM EST up reply actions

This would be a near perfect draft.

I’d probably take Fletcher Cox over the RBs but that’s a win/win.

by SeahawkNMD on Feb 2, 2012 5:28 PM EST up reply actions

Cox

I think Cox is a better fit as a 3-4 DE than a penetrating 3-tech, but if PC/JS think he could play there he’d be a great pick in the 2nd. Could then pick up an RB like Ganaway from Baylor in the 5th instead of Jones as a Lynch backup/successor.

by Senepol on Feb 3, 2012 4:21 AM EST up reply actions

I don't like the idea of spending a high pick on a RB (or a 4-3 LB)

but I think the Seahawks are in the market more for a workhorse RB (that could backup Lynch) than another change-of-pace guy. That said, Richardson fits the “TD maker” that Pete says he wants to bring in.

by Greetings from the Lord Humongous! on Feb 2, 2012 4:09 PM EST up reply actions

TD Maker

Richardson definitely fits the “TD maker” mold – but if Lynch is signed its a pretty extreme luxury pick… but then again he’s definitely BPA by a country mile at that point and you can never have too many RBs so I could see it happening. Could also see them trading out of the pick to a team that covets Richardson.

I’d only see them taking a WLB early if PC/JS were extremely high on them since Malcolm Smith might be able to fill the pass rush role.

by Senepol on Feb 2, 2012 4:44 PM EST up reply actions

There's absolutely 0% chance the Texans take a CB in the 1st round, or even at all

They’re already logjammed at the position with Jonathan Joseph, Kareem Jackson, Brice McCain, Brandon Harris, Roc Carmichael, & Sherrick McManis, & that’s not taking into account if they try to resign Jason Allen. Texans will not draft a CB at all in this draft. If they address the CB position, it’ll be in free agency, not the draft.

At that point by looking at the board, Devon Still would be the best pick for the Texans in the first round. No problem with the 2nd round pick though. 3rd round becomes an issue since DT was addressed in the 1st. I would think in that position, they look at WR again. Brian Quick or Juron Criner would be nice in the 3rd for the Texans. No problems with the last two picks

Reiff is okay in the 1st but a trade back could net more picks and a decent RT candidate in the 2nd or 3rd round. I was toying around with drafttek and trading out of the 1st could net

Lamar Miller RB
Coby Fleener TE
Bobby Massie RT
Orson Charles TE

You would make some Cowboys fans happy

but I will be livid if we spend two high picks on interior lineman. That’s just too much of an investment in the O-line when it wasn’t really our offense that was the problem.

If you want to go DeCastro then I think the pick in the third would have to be Kendall Reyes or Cam Johnson. If you would rather invest in the o-line in the mid-rounds (like myself), you would probably have to go for either Janoris Jenkins or Perry/Ingram at #14. Either scenario I could see but I don’t see two high picks going to the O-line after we spent three picks on it last year.

As for the rest of the picks (2, 4, and 5), I can’t say I am a huge fan. Josh Robinson is reach in round 2 and couldn’t be justified over Branch, Barron or Ta’amu. In round 4, Logan Harrell is a tweener and I think Joe Adams is clearly the more valuable guy there considering he would solve our returner problems and give Tony another weapon so we could spread the field some more. Finally, in round 5, Keenan Robinson is likely a 4-3 OLB and wouldn’t be anywhere near as good a pick as Chandler Jones or Leonard Johnson.

If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

Love it. Especially Osweiller in the fourth. Only issue I see is listing rush LB as a need. Justin Houston tore it up in the second half of his rookie season, he was even nominated for rookie of the week twice. Gonna have to agree to disagree on that one. Great job though all around.

Chiefs

Round 1/2: I cant argue with Reiff or Poe. They would add something right away to KC.
-
Round 3: I dont know if I like a C in the 3rd. I dont think KC is going to move Hudson to OG. They are going to give him every shot at OC this season. I am ok with Albert/Lilja/Hudson/Asamoah/Reiff. I think taking a guy like Orson Charles here is the way to go. TE is a big need because of the injury history to Moeaki and because when you have Pope/Becht as your #2… Time for an upgrade.
-
Round 4: KC took Stanzi in the 5th last year and I dont see them going QB this year… I think a great player to take here is Lucas Nix. He would be a great player to develop to take over for Lilja.
Round 5: Cant argue here at all.. Great pick
-
Reiff, Poe, Charles, Nix, Pead… That is 4 players who will get plenty of time in year one. I think that is a pretty solid first 5 rounds.

What a year! At least we have the Royals... Oh Wait!

with TE in the 3rd. But our QB situation is such a joke, i dont know that pioli doesn’t try and find someone to develop that can actually throw a deep pass that doesn’t hang in the air for 3 years. Why else draft Baldwin if not for the deep ball? That was kind of his thing at Pitt. God knows neither Cassel or Stanzi is getting it to him.

We could still use a DT, Fletcher Cox in this draft, is still available. Though I am in the minority over at TST, I don’t need a WR, if we can resign Lloyd. If we can’t, I’ll take one. Criner or Hioll would be fine at the top of the 4th, though I don’t think Criner makes it that far.

I Disagree

Munchak has stated that the Titans are going to spend one of their first three picks on an offensive linemen, but having Tennessee select three out of their five picks on the offensive line is a bit much.

Sure, DE, CB, and S are needs, but I doubt the Titans allow Mark Barron to be drafted in the 2nd round by the Jets when Safety is an area of need. Why draft Konz when there are so many other players with more value in that 1st round pick.

I know there are no trades in these mocks, but I tend to believe that the Titans will trade down and acquire more picks, rather than making a huge splash in FA.

I'll be pretty sad if the Jaguars' draft goes like that

Passing on superior talent for positional reaches is a terrible draft strategy. I sure hope it doesn’t happen.

I think Coples, Ingram, Upshaw, Richardson, Floyd, Martin, and Reiff over Jeffery, and that’s being generous. I don’t think he’s a top-20 talent in this draft.

Norman over Curry, Poe, Barron, McNutt, and Doug Martin seems like a stretch to me. Definitely a stretch talent-wise, IMO.

Boykin, Fleener, Cam Johnson, Charles, Harrison Smith, and Matt Reynolds all seem to make more sense than Casey Heyward, but I’m okay with that one.

Like McClellin a lot, but Joe Adams, Brian Quick, and Sean Spence seem like too good a value to pass up there. I see those guys as second to third-round prospects.

Don’t know a ton about Robinson, but Pead, Pierce, Marvin Jones, and Broyles all seem like huge values in the fifth round.

If I were re-doing this draft with the guys I HOPE they take, it’d be:

1. Quinton Coples
2. Mark Barron
3. Coby Fleener
4. Joe Adams
5. Bernard Pierce

If I were re-doing this draft with the guys I THINK they’d take, it’d be:

1. Melvin Ingram
2. Vinny Curry
3. Matt Reynolds
4. Brian Quick
5. Leonard Johnson

Not particularly wild about Osemele in the second. If there wasn’t any great defensive help I think it’d be alright, but Barron would be difficult to pass up. No real complaints on the others, I just don’t see Pagano passing up the opportunity to get a great young strong safety in the secondary.

by TrueBlue87 on Feb 2, 2012 4:15 PM EST reply actions

I like Osemele in the second as I think he is a first round guy. He and Ijalana could fight it out over who plays RG or RT.

Flemming and Tandy both fill a need so no complaints there. I like Hilton and wideouts in that undersized speed mold because of Arians’ scheme.

3-4

I generally like most of the picks here, but there is one major wildcard that will shake up the Colts draft. With the Colts hiring Pagano as head coach and Manusky as DC this seems to herald an impending switch to a 3-4 defense. I actually think the Colts have most of the pieces to do this already save for a dominant NT. Dontari Poe or Alameda Ta’Amu are now the front runners for the #34 pick in my opinion.

by invisibulman on Feb 3, 2012 9:05 AM EST up reply actions

NT

Maybe with the change in front office we’ll look more to free agency. There’s some decent NT we could go with such as Franklin, Garay, Pouha, or Soliai.

by BlueVol03 on Feb 3, 2012 10:41 AM EST up reply actions

That would be a waste because I don’t think Poe or Ta’Amu aren’t first round players, which is how you have to look at that 34th pick.

I think the Colts would be better off getting a NT in free agency because that secondary really needs help and this is a great year for corners.

by TrueBlue87 on Feb 3, 2012 12:24 PM EST up reply actions

Still mocking 2 CBs in the first 5 rounds, so its not like we would be leaving the issue unaddressed.

Soliai is going to command more money than we are able to committ. It is possible that he will be franchised again. Pouha is 33… not exactly the cornerstone of building a defense for the future. I think getting a quality NT at the top of the 2nd round is a very solid use of the pick. Would have to see more tape to decide which I like better, but 34 doesn’t seem like a reach to me.

by invisibulman on Feb 3, 2012 10:43 PM EST up reply actions

Not all corners are created equal though. Minnifield is going to be great and I’d rather have Barron at value than reach for a NT.

Pagano and I believe Manusky have run hybrids in the past

I don’t think they’ll force a conversion they can’t get the talent for. I think they’ll be running a 3-4 in 3 years, but next year? I wouldn’t be surprised if they played quite a bit of 4-3.

Nice post overall

as a Chiefs fan though I’m not thrilled with the picks. RT is a need, but if pressed with the choice of Reiff or drafting David DeCastro, DeCastro gets the nod. And he fits a real need as well considering the drop-off of Ryan Lilja this past season.

1. David DeCastro OG
2. Dwayne Allen/Coby Fleener TE
3. Antonio Allen S
4. Brock Osweiler QB
5. Tauren Poole RB

I understand NT/OT are not getting addressed and need to be, but IMO those positions can be addressed through FA (OT might be a toughy), especially since we just drafted Powe at NT last year.

I'd have to agree

something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately is IF (and that’s a big if) we could nab Peyton Manning, and IF he checks out and is actually healthy, in the second round draft Zebrie Sanders. If Indy does not retain Dallas Clarke or allows Jacob Tamme to walk, we don’t need to draft a TE.

But that is a lot of IF’s, and I just have a hard time swallowing this scenario as a very real, legitimite possibility. Even though it’d be amazing.

Love the 49ers draft

Personally I like Nick Toon more than Wright (system fit, not talent) and would take him there in the first but Wright is also a great talent that I can’t be upset with.

Our needs are a bit off though.

Cornerback is a bit of a logjam, there are lots of Niner fans that want 3 Pro Bowlers back there but that’s just not realistic. They are still salivating over Peterson and should probably give it up. If Rogers somehow demands the moon after claiming he’d give a discount then maybe it’s a need, but until then it’s not. We have 2 solid starters, a nickel-back that we left all alone on Megatron half the game without getting dominated, and some young guys behind them who are making great progress and are already better than anyone you can get outside of the first two rounds.

Defensive End doesn’t need depth. Ricky Jean Francois has grown by leaps and bounds — he filled in at DE several times this year and nose tackle once and played very well. Most Niner fans couldn’t tell when he was in. For long term development we picked up a guy in UDFA named DeMarcus Dobbs that blew up the pre-season last year. Granted he was playing substandard competition, but his first step, power, hands, and pad level are all top notch and he was just blowing people off the ball and 5 yards into the backfield.

And we have one of the best defensive line coaches in the NFL working on these guys

That being said, in the 4th instead of McKenzie I’d rather pick up Trenton Robinson if he’s still on the board. Love Harrison Smith but we’re gutting our safety depth and could go to that position twice in the draft.

But overall great job of finding us some more talent.

Every time Jamie Dukes says something enlightening and informative about football Jerry Rice and I mount up on our flying grizzly bears and claim pirate treasure from the moon. That's how often it happens.

1st of all I’d like to say that we don’t need a TE or a rush LB.

As far as the draft goes, I could certainly see us taking Blackmon and Tannehill. I’d be fine with that. Nice job on those.

I don’t know anything about Aminasatolu, but I do know that I like Ben Jones and Brandon Boykin and they’re both still on the board. Maybe Aminasatolu is a better prospect than the two Dawgs, I don’t know. I also don’t know that Shanahan would pass on Juron Criner 3 times after the 2nd round. He seemed to like him at the Senior Bowl.

49ers redraft

Kelechi Osemele – Road grader for their power game. Kendall Wright will be very tempting but there is WR value later in the draft and the OL is more important for a team that just does not throw that frequently. Kelechi would take over Adam Snyder’s RG spot.

Jared Crick – Not a strong need, but too much value to pass up.

Stephen Hill – Big WR coming out of program that produced Calvin Johnson and Demarius Thomas. Should also be a good blocker since they run the triple option.

Ryan Broyles – Double dip on WRs. They were talking about him in the 1st round before he got hurt. He brings speed and PR/KR skills.

Aaron Henry – Safety. Could also go for a rush OLB here, or CB depth like Omar Bolden.

Despite Calvin Johnson and Thomas coming out of GT...

being a receiver from there is still more of a knock on a guy than a positive in my opinion. So much to learn after playing in that crazy offense.

Wow.

Patriots:
Devon Still – Like the pick, but I like Brockers more…
Michael Brockers – But then I saw you take Brockers. Love the first round. I could see Hightower or Ingram over Still, but like the double dip.
Marvin McNutt – No doubt the Patriots need a receiver. Questions surround McNutt’s ability at the NFL level, but he’s one of the best still on the board.
Jayron Hosley – I think the Patriots need a safety more than a CB. I’d take Harrison Smith here.
Cam Johnson – I like the pick because he’s a total Patriot type player.
Brandon Brooks – Again, another great pick. He’ll definitely fight for a roster spot.

So really, my only difference would be to take Smith over Hosley. That’s it.

My ideal jumping from the way your draft falls:
1a. Ingram
1b. Brockers
2a. Ben Jones
2b. Harrison Smith

Broncos

Wow! A five rounder this early in the process? Impressive! Anyway, right to what you wanted: critique/analysis. I’ll start with your team needs, because that’s the backbone of the whole thing. You listed CB, RB, LG/RT, DT, and WR, in that order. Personally, I’d go DT, RB, MLB, CB, and WR, probably in that order or something very similar to it. As for your results, I had to research a couple of the guys to make up my mind.

After looking at Minnifield’s stats, measurables and scouting reports, I’m shocked I haven’t heard of him and that he’s not solidified himself as a potential first round draft pick; not sure the Broncos would go in that direction at #25, especially with quality prospects at positions of greater need still on the board, but he’d be a fine selection for any team regardless. Right off the bat I liked the Doug Martin and Jared Crick picks (and don’t mind the Badger offensive lineman in the 5th either) as they do a good job of addressing need with value and offsetting the mild luxury pick at #25. After further review, I didn’t like the Tim Benford choice, especially with Eric Page coming off the board just two picks later. Finally, I’m not sure how I feel about the Weeden pick, though I suppose it makes sense from the EFX standpoint and is a best case scenario for Tebow supporters. All in all, I think you did a commendable job repping the Broncos in you mock and an great job pointing something this big/deep up with early on. Great job, and keep them coming!

I think this underscores just how badly I think we need DTs and RBs, while still addressing CB and WR significantly. Hope this helps!

Minnifield's a higher BPA than Worthy by most accounts.

we could probably trade down to get Worthy in the early-mid second round and at least pick up another 2nd.

A lot is two words. Allot can be one word but it has another meaning.
The only time you really want to use "myself" is when you are the recipient of your own action. Usually you're better off using "me."
Your is not the correct contraction of you are. The word you're looking for is you're.
It's anyway, not anyways.

Giants had a great draft here

Though while you don’t have it listed as a need, it doesn’t matter, I think the Giants would take Brockers over Brown in the first. Brockers has SO much talent and SO much upside, and putting him next to the likes of Justin Tuck and JPP would be scary. I would love Dwayne Allen as our first round pick, so nabbing him in the 2nd was just cake.

Don’t know much abt the 2nd and first 3rd round picks but would be more than happy with Boykins and Spence.

Good Jets draft

Thank you for being the first person to mock Barron to us in the second rather than the first.

Oh yes that's right, I'm a Jets fan.

I think it was an excellent pick & pretty good value

IMO Silatolu is a good Guard prospect in a very good draft for Guards. He has a lot of upside & most likely has never had top of the line coaching. He is definitely a player I hope we land in the mid rd.s http://www.fftoolbox.com/nfl_draft/profile_display.cfm?prospect_id=2925

No, I would take Ben Jones before Amini Silatolu

& I see that he went to the Cowboys a few picks after our pick. It’s his Big Board & his mock but I would definitely prefer a player like Jones who could play either Guard or Center. Fwiw, I don’t think that Jones will make it out of the 2nd.

Jets Mock Draft

The LG and RG are not immediate issues, actually LG is pretty set for a while anyways.

So I don’t like the OG pick, a RT would be better suited there. Other than that, I’d be thrilled to grab Barron in the 2nd and take a pass rusher like Whitney in the first.

And the home of the .... JETS!!!

Bucs, not liking it

No way we take Kirkpatrick at #5 after his arrest. Maybe before. Maybe. Now? No way. Not after Tanard do we spend the #5 pick on him. I hate seeing Lavonte David mocked to us there, it is too early imo. I almost like Travis Lewis there, but he’s been slow since his injury. I’m not sure now. RT competition in the 5th is a good call.

by aakks on Feb 2, 2012 7:01 PM EST reply actions

to get Dwayne Allen in the 2nd is great

but I really don’t think people realize how good Brockers is, and how likely (like 100%) it is that the Giants are not going to draft an LBEezer in the first round.

THe Giants go with the 6"6 305lbs freak of nature at that pick. I hate saying draft stuff with certainty, but that’s pretty damn certain there.

by Rorschach44 on Feb 2, 2012 7:01 PM EST reply actions

Yeah, and so did I

but I think this is easily cleared up. The Giants are pretty much set at DT, and they won’t spend an early/mid round pick on one UNLESS it’s a guy like Brockers. The value of Brockers at where the Giants are picking is just waaaay too much to pass on. There is no doubt Brockers is the BPA on the board in this particular scenario. The Giants would be dumb to pass on that kind of talent here. That’s all we’re saying.

by #56 4life on Feb 2, 2012 10:05 PM EST up reply actions

alright

I don’t have Brockers as highly rated as you guys but I see where you could think he is a top 10 player

That's fair

Another thing about Brockers is he’s likely to be one of those guys that rises b/c of the draft process, and the Giants tend to love those guys.

There are usually four or five players in each draft who are really "elite"

This year I think those players are Luck, RGIII, Richardson, Brockers & maybe Blackmon. In my next mock he will be top ten.

by ENsDad27 on Feb 3, 2012 2:42 PM EST up reply actions

Blackmon is no doubt elite too

he’s better then Dez Bryant since there won’t be any thought of using him as a special teamer, which is why Bryant gets hurt a lot. That’s also saying the Cowporks are quite dumb.

by Rorschach44 on Feb 3, 2012 11:08 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah I agree with Rorschach and #56

In terms of pure talent and ability (forget developmental progress) Brockers is arguably one of the best defensive players in this entire draft. Based on our history, the Giants just don’t pass on talent like that.

by GiantNomad on Feb 2, 2012 10:14 PM EST up reply actions

it wasn't Michael Brockers.

that’s the only DT I’d say has a shot there. Brockers, Coples or Mercilus are the 3 DLs the Giants go with. Anyone else just isn’t freaky enough.

BENGALS

Would love for the draft to end this way for Cincy. If Janoris Jenkins was still at Florida he would be right up there with Claiborne as the best CB. Jenkins was clearly the best defensive back at the Senior Bowl.
I love Cordy Glenn who is a massive run blocker who played LT for Georgia. Some people feel that Glenn is overrated but he has great feet and is very athlectic to be 350lbs. The Bengals OG play last year was putrid and it will be hard for the Bengals to pass up Glenn at 17 or 21 because he will not be there in the 2nd round.
If Cincy can get David Wilson in the second round Mike Brown might just wet himself because Wilson is an explosive RB who can take it to the crib on any play.
In the 3rd round I look for Cincy to draft a safety like Harrison Smith from Notre Dame. Smith is very good versus the run but can get beat deep.

Disagree

Don’t think they take Jenkins or Dennard in the first and not just because of character concerns. The last 3 CB’s we’ve drafted (Leon Hall, JJOE, and Brandon Ghee) have all been 6ft tall or better. We tend to go for the bigger more physical CB’s, so I’d say Gilmore or Kirkpatric (if he happens to fall) would be the more likely pick. As for guard, if DeCastro is not available I doubt we even take a guard until at least the 3rd round, unfortunatley we just do not put a whole lot of value on that position group. Lastly, I think Martin or even Polk is much more likely to be taken than Wilson because they are more complete backs (mainly for blocking because they all can catch out of the backfield) .

I could be wrong and some Bengals fans may like it, but I definitely think this is the more likely scenereo based on past tendencies.

Assuming DeCastro and Richardson are both off the board.

1a. Gilmore/kirkpatric (a bigger type CB)
1b. BPA (DL or LB) (we do not value the guard position early)
2. Martin or Polk (better blocking backs)
3. Best Guard available (probally a bigger G/T type)

Falcons:

first of all, great job in doing a 5 round mock with team needs listed and many solid picks…..

….but, lets start with Nate Potter:
I had him #63 on my Oct 10, 2011 Big Board http://www.mockingthedraft.com/2011/10/10/2476052/dursts-big-board
and there were 5 or 6 in front of him that didn’t declare, thus he would have been like 57/58. You have him going 55th to Atlanta, where our OLine had great difficulty adjusting to our attempt to transform from a running team to a passing team.

Potter played both LT and guard as a four year starter at Boise State. Perfect pick, right? I feel Potter did not show as much improvement during his career, and although a “safe” pick, may not have a high enough ceiling. Translation = didn’t we already draft Sam Baker, when did he change his name to Nate Potter? LOL. I am also not sure he would be better than Mike Johnson.

Mostly I feel (without a first round pick) the Falcons need to go best available, and grab whichever fringe first rounder falls to us. Although I may be alone, I currently have DTs Jerel Worthy, Alameda Ta’amu (not high on the needs list) as first rounders. http://www.mockingthedraft.com/2012/1/20/2721318/for-those-about-to-mock-we-salute-you-2012-edition

Additionally, if we did go “needs-based” you have the top three TEs all still available and all going in the next 25 picks. Of coarse you did address the TE position in the third round, but I feel there is a big drop-off with David Paulson, and if we passed on the first three, would rather we wait until our 5th round for a TE (as you know, Falcons without a 4th round pick either)

DE Cam Johnson in the 3rd would be huge for us ( still available with our 3rd rounder according to your mock )but I believe him to be a solid second round pick.

Furthermore, I believe you have over-estimated the falls of injured players. Historically, players such as QBs Sam Bradford and Christian Ponder, and TEs Jermaine Gresham, Gronk, and Kyle Rudolph have maintained most of their value despite significant injuries.

Broyles, Crick, Datko, and Fortson have at least a round too low.

the josh robinson pick is where i stopped reading for the cowboys. WAY too early….

rest of first round:

Still feel #6 for Blackmon is too high, but I know I am mostly alone :^( http://www.mockingthedraft.com/2012/1/17/2713736/most-overrated-draft-prospect-justin-blackmon

Glad you have Kendall Wright almost out of the third round, but lets go ahead and put him somewhere between pick 44 (Titus Young), and 58 (Torrey Smith)

Glad you are on-board with CBs Minnifield and Gilmore, but still feel everybody has overrated Jenkins and Dennard

If Jenkins is drafted in the first round, he will be the first CB under 5-10 drafted since before 2000

Now NFL.com may have rounded up on a few, but every CB drafted in the first round since 2000 (that is as far back as I went) has been listed 5-10 or taller….I am not saying he can’t be a great player, I am just recognizing that the NFL does frequently follow sterotypes, and personally, I will continue to keep Jenkins outside of my 1st round.

Last year, I stated that Brandon Harris was one of my 16 guaranteed to be drafted in the first round, ignoring his poor performance against the much larger Michael Floyd in the bowl game. This year Dennard was exposed in a similar fashion by the much larger Alshon Jeffery.

http://www.mockingthedraft.com/2012/1/27/2752802/is-chase-minnifield-better-than-chris-cook-and-ras-i-dowling

I am starting to warm up on both Glenn, and Osemele (both G-RT prospects), but keep in mind it is very rare for more than two interior lineman to be selected in the first 32 (Konz and DeCastro appear to be locks)

I am glad that you are not falling for the “every team is going to want a safety to guard Gronk and Jimmy Smith”, (although true, Mark Barron is NOT that kind of safety, and not a first rounder IMO)

Historically safeties and ILBs have had a difficult time making it into the first round, no matter how good they are. Nearly every draft I have seen has Luke Kuechly in the first round……mine will not.

There are about five defensive lineman, and OLB/DEs (lead by Allen Branch) who you have as second rounders that I have as first rounders.

I think Wright could go to the Bucs at 36 if he's there

and if we haven’t added a FA wr or took Blackmon in the first round. We desperately need some speed out there, and he’d be a perfect fit.

by aakks on Feb 3, 2012 1:20 PM EST up reply actions

yeah, he has a different skill set than Mike Williams, Benn, and Briscoe.

I could see him going to the Bucs, but my point was more that many, and I mean many analysts have Wright as a top 20 player, and I see him “mocked” to go in the first round in every mock draft I have seen ( something I disagree with)

by durst on Feb 3, 2012 2:22 PM EST up reply actions

He's been shooting up boards lately

I’m not entirely sure why. I think the combine is going to be huge for him. I’m a little unclear on where he should go right now to be honest.

Titans.

Think I said this on the last one but unless DeCastro were to fall to 20, I wouldn’t expect them to go OL in the first, second round will be the earliest they address it. And there is a snowball’s chance in hell they go for it with their first two picks, and three of their first five. The team has big needs along the DL, S and potentially CB pending Finnegan in addition to interior OL. It’s much more likely they go defense first round, then address G with the second-round pick, and that may in fact be it unless they pick an additional developmental guy late.

Jags

I thought it was solid for the most part, I don’t even know where you came up with that need list so I will just ignore it. The only picks I had an issue with were the Heyward and Robinson picks, I think Heyward is good but I would rather go with Orson Charles or Harrison Smith there. And when Robinson was picked a guy like Jordan White was still on the board, I can’t see the Jags passing up on a guy with that kind of skill and production at position of need in the 5th round.

I told you last time B is not a top need. We’ll probably draft one, but the 2nd is way too early. We don’t run the ball enough to warrant that pick. And trust me, that’s by choice, not necessity. Give me Jared Crick there. We need a difference-maker on the DL and in the LB corps out of this draft.

Other than that, I’m OK with it.
