Dallas

Ok…great attempt but Dallas will probably not take a TE in the 2nd round. Especially with so much talent at positions of greater need. FS, NT, G x2, C, CB x3! Oh and if Brockers is there in the 2nd Dallas grabs him (top 15 talent right now)! just mho though.

although I'm not a huge fan of Devin Still

he’s pretty good value in the 2nd for the Panthers. They might even take him in the first round (which would really suck) but it is possible. I also really like trevor guyton, so thanks for him lol

yea, no way in hell Still goes that low

No one needs defensive tackles

Everyone needs defensive ends, and the few teams that need a NT have other positions that need a player more. Not that I disagree about Still not getting that low, just that based on comments from my last attempt and research into team needs I couldn’t justify handing out DTs because no one seemed to need them. WRs, CBs, OTs, and OLBs were the big draws that everyone NEEDED to have before moving on to secondary needs, like DTs and RBs. I think Still goes higher, but not sure to who. As I said, no one seemed to need non-330 lbs. DTs in the last run through.

VIkings need a DT

1st round—I agree with the LT there. I had Martin higher than Reiff most of the season, I will evaluate them both at the Combine.

2nd—With all the DT’s on the board, the Vikings would really be in the ideal spot. In fact I’d be tempted to trade back into the 2nd round to draft one. I hadn’t seen Hightower mocked to us before so it through me off a bit. But Still, Brockers, Worthy, and Ta’amu would all be huge upgrades for the Vikings in 2012.

3rd—I’m not that high on Boykin. I think his best assest is in the return game, the Vikings need help on the defense. The way your mock played out, I would consider Markell Martin and Bobby Wagner here.

4th—Casey Hayward in a heartbeat.

would all be ideal landing spots for a DT imo

strange things happen for a reason

like injury or character red flags. I dont see any scenario where Still makes it out of the top 20

Exactly, but no one knew that at the time.

The draftniks and the media were surprised, but the scouts and the personnel people weren’t at all. They all knew he deserved to slide.

You act like the common view shared by draftniks accurately reflects the way the teams view these players. And nothing could be further from the truth.

1st draftnix are usually ptetty close, they dont just flip a coin to dicide whos good or not

2nd, your assuming that is what I’m basing opinion on. I have watched Still, i know he’s a very good player. My own scouting, along with outside expert opinion, leads me to believe he will be a top 15 pick

by pcroadrage on Feb 23, 2012 3:29 AM EST up reply actions

Thing I can't get over is everyone says, "So and so won't slip out of the top 20"

But then no one has a need for said player. I agree someone will bite guys like Still and Brockers, but going off of just needs at this point, no one needs a 43 DT like they need a CB or WR or OLB. I’ll eventually find out preferences though, and start making some of the changes to reflect where people find lack of need vs. great talent falling to balance out enough to take guys like Still and Brockers. For now, though, its just a guess.

your making this so need based

only poor teams draft strictly on need. Most teams are smart enough to take the best player. and there are certainly several teams that could use a DT. Carolina, Chicago, Tennessee, Denver, Greenbay, Seattle, and Kansas City could all use a player like Still. besides, do you really think many teams are going to take a 6-7/10 WR/CB over a 8-9/10 DT? Most teams are smarter than that.

Cardinals

Can’t go wrong with DeCastro and Schwartz in the 1st and 3rd, ’cause the offensive line needs a bit of an overhaul.

However, CB is not as big of a need as most non-Cardinals fans think. Greg Toler will be returning from injury, PP21 and Jefferson will have another year of experience under their belts, and hopefully Richard Marshall gets coaxed back to the nest this year. The only way I could see the Cards taking a CB is if Marshall goes elsewhere and/or there is a BPA that just represents too much value to pass on.

I'd say

Potter, Datko, Givens. I don’t know anything about Bradham, but if he’s a rush 3-4 OLB, then him as well.

So a non-slot WR #2, more O line, OLB, Safety, ILB depth.

by KDean75 on Feb 22, 2012 9:38 AM EST up reply actions

A fast WR or an OLB would be my top two choices in this scenario.

It can be a slot receiver or an outside receiver imo. I don’t care which. Cruz played from the slot for NYG and had a huge year. For what the Cardinals offense has been running the outside receiver would be more logical. A lot more 2 receiver sets this last season. If Doucet goes in free agency the slot position becomes the obvious opening.

Not sure we’ll find a pass rusher in the 4th that will be any better than the guys we’ve got. We need to be stronger there.

Why Would The Rams

Use a 2nd round pick on Coby Fleener? They used a 2nd round pick on a TE in 2011.

by ValdezY on Feb 22, 2012 1:42 AM EST reply actions

Because you can never have too many TEs

Texans drafted Anthony Hill & James Casey in back to back rounds (4th & 5th) in the 2009 draft with Owen Daniels & Joel Dreesen on their roster. They took Garrett Graham in the 4th round of the 2010 draft as insurance if Owen Daniels wasn’t able to fully come back from his ACL tear, yet while still having Dreesen & Casey still on the roster as well. Patriots took Gronkowsi & Hernandez with back to back picks, & look how that turned out for them. Sam Bradford would be lucky to have a weapon like Fleener. TE’s are a QB’s best friend.

Chiefs

Pretty decent, not sure why we would grab 2 tackles that high though, Albert has been more than solid at LT for us. Only way I can see it is if you see Reiff as a guard in which case we would be better off grabbing DeCastro. Also would MUCH rather have Brockers in the second over Still.

With those things in mind a draft of:

Decastro
Brockers
Massie
Osweiler

Would be absolutely amazing for the Chiefs

by Everest on Feb 22, 2012 2:09 AM EST reply actions

Reasoning for the 2nd OT was that Massie is 6'6, 325 lbs. He's got a RT/RG frame to him.

And speaking as specifically a Colt fans, I’ve seen Colts use OTs as OGs with success, and so having a competent tweener at OG who can fill in at OT in the event of injuries is always a good thing to have.

That said, I’ll keep the notes in mind for next time around.

by Jamkel on Feb 22, 2012 2:16 AM EST up reply actions

I don't see the Chiefs going O-Line in the first unless it's a transendent talent like DeCastro

I really like the Massie pick for right tackle, he fits the bill for what we need there and is a Pioli type O-Line pick, and honestly it’s not gonna be hard to upgrade over B-Rich even in the third.

by Everest on Feb 22, 2012 2:23 AM EST up reply actions

So aside from DeCastro, who else would you think of as viable candidates in the 1st then for the Chiefs?

I was doing the draft in a live type setting. I gave Reiff to the Cheifs not knowing if they’d get the chance at Massie later. Massie being available was just happenstance, and a good pick in the 3rd, thus the double OTs since I thought they could fill the OT/OG needs for the Cheifs. I just like knowing the options fans would find acceptable for their teams each time I do a new version.

I would say the only two people i would consider drafting in your draft's availability

Are Decastro or Adams. I don’t see a RT at all when i look at Reiff, I see a LT at best and a guard at worst.

by Jonathan Hake on Feb 22, 2012 11:46 AM EST up reply actions

I could see Reiff, only because I think Pioli was serious when he said he thinks that Stanzi can be a starter in the NFL.

Pioli picked up Moeaki in 2010, Stanzi in 2011, so it wouldn’t ‘shock’ me to see Reiff selected by the Chiefs.

If Reiff can ‘only’ play LT then the Chiefs can move Albert to his “Natural Position”.

by DivineGrace on Feb 25, 2012 7:58 AM EST up reply actions

Pretty good for the Texans, but I don't see them targeting a CB in the draft

They took two in the last draft, one of which was on the IR this past season. They have a logjam at CB & they need to see what they have before they consider drafting another one. In the 4th round, I could see them looking at an OLB or DE. Derek Wolfe would be my choice here

Seattle

Love the Manning pick, I would love to get a Manning Seahawk Jersey, and Trent Richardson would be a great pick too. The second rounder though, I just don’t see us picking up an OG though, we really need a pass rusher. And we don’t really need a DT with Red Bryant jamming up the lanes. I really liked this though, I almost wet myself with the Manning and Richardson thing though.

I changed my signature block and still do not have Rec'ing abilities.....

wow omg these detroit Lions mocks are insane

CB Alfonzo Denard is NOT a first round talent. Brandon Jennings out of Miami last year was talked about as the Lions pick at 13 last year… and that was such a major reach. Jennings ended up going in the late 2nd round too the Texans.

This is such a major reach… then Chris Polk in the 2nd BEFORE Doug Martin? Carolina passing on Brookers TWICE……….wow.. does not compute

Sorry but based on this draft you gave Detroit i could do 10000000 x better

Not bad for us. I don’t hate the 3rd pick, but would be shocked if we don’t draft a WR at this point, so I think Streeter or Quick would be a better pick, but nice job.

Cowboys

I like the attempt, however, rds 2-4 could’ve been better.

2nd Rd: There’s no way the pass on Curry, Massaquoi, Brockers, and Ta’amu. These are talented players at positions of need: pass rusher and DT/NT.

3rd Rd: They won’t pass on Kendall Reyes, Brandon Brooks, Michael Brewster, and Harrison Smith. Again, these are talented players at positions of need: 34DE, G, C, SS

4th Rd: If Kirk Cousins is available, they won’t let him go. They need a backup QB that has starter potential.

Jags

1)While Coples is not a bad pick, the more time goes by the more I think he will not be the pick for the Jaguars

2)I like the position chosen to draft, but not the player. Randle is a talented player, but he scares me having gone cold against Alabama both times he played them. Personally, I am thinking Stephen Hill, Dwight Jones, or Brian Quick are more likely WR to be taken with the second rounder

3) I like the pick a lot.

4) Bad pick in my opinion for every possible reason. G is not a need and I find Brooks to not warrant a 4th rounder. I think going with a CB is the best option with the pick.

Pats. I hate this mock.

The Pats use the 27th overall for a CB? Really? He’s neither the BPA nor addressing a need. If anything, the Pats are too young at CB.
The Pats use the 31st overall for Barron? Really? Seriously? Barron can only play SS because he’s incapable of playing man. Pats have a SS in Patrick Chung. Barron, coming off an injury, is neither the BPA nor does he address a need.
Michael Brockers falls into the mid-2nd round and is taken after Fletcher Cox and Jared Crick? Really? Seriously?

In the 2nd round I like the Jared Crick selection. He’s a hidden gem. Same with WR Stephen Hill. Great value. The 3rd/4th rounds are okay, but that 1st round is nuts.

was a solid draft until you forgot our 2nd 4th rounder (from the Raiders for Jason Campbell.) You could go ahead and give us Levy Adcock there (who you don’t have drafted in the top 4 rounds) or Andrew Datko. I think the pick is #109. That would turn a solid draft into a great draft. Rec’d.

by CarverM on Feb 22, 2012 9:35 AM EST reply actions

This is pretty kind of how I see the draft going this year.

Minus any trades up or down in the 1st. I’d definitely take Datko over Adcock in the 4th. The second 4th rounder is also a good spot for Shanny to draft a good RB that drops.

Steelers

Jonathan Massaquoi a 270lb ILB, uhhhh….what?!?! That would be an awful, awful pick for the Steelers who like fast and athletic guys. Watching his tapes it looks like he is running in jelly. There’s no way that guy can be an ILB. I even think Hightower is too big for a Steelers ILB.

Also, I’m getting so tired of seeing the Steelers draft a RB in the first 3 rounds while completely ignoring the OL. Putting a new name behind the same crappy line is going to produce the same results (or worse, considering Mendy was a 1st rounder).

I like the first and fourth picks, but the Steelers need to take a G in rounds 2 or 3.

Massaquoi to me is an OLB

not a ILB. He was already going to have to work on his coverage skills to become an OLB, we can’t take a ILB with limited coverage ability. Amini Silatolu or Bobby Wagner would be a better pick there.

Norman is an intriguing pick. I’d like to say we are fine at CB but the thought of adding him as a project/ insurance for a couple of years maybe a good idea.

As for Potter I don’t like him as a possible Steelers. His lack of size and power in the running game is a problem since we need a strong push in short yardage since all of our WR are short. Since he would have the same problem at guard I’d don’t think we’d take him much rather have Troy Brown there.

I'm getting tired of saying this: Dick LeBeau’s system is so complex very few rookies can make an impact.

1st rd-typical pass rusher to play opposite of wake i like the pick
2nd rd- no need for a DT and OT has to be addressed in the first 3 rounds so Zebrie Sanders would be a good pick here
3rd & 4th rds-double up on CBs but i like it with a passing league u can never have too many CBs and miami has a couple candidates to move to FS

1st Pick agree
2nd Pick dont thinks so… a QB or RT will land there
3rd round could be a CB or a S
4rt Round TE will land in this spot

I’m in love with both ingram and Smith, and wilson is a steal in the mid-2nd. Irvin is kind of meh with me right now, but a solid cmbine could change that. I love the 2 OLBs though.

Giants.

Perfect 1st two picks. We won’t double-dip at OT though. Instead of Mosley in the 3rd, give me RB Isaiah Pead. I’m quite high on Datko, so I love that pick.

1) Dwayne Allen, TE
2) Dwight Jones, WR
3) Isaiah Pead, RB
4) Andrew Datko, OT

I would LOVE this.

I love both drafts

We don’t need two tackles. But Datko is a high 2nd rounder on my board. We take this draft, Datko takes over at LT in 2013 and we let Beatty walk as a free agent. Mosley and Brewer fight it out at RT, loser is best backup tackle in league. Maybe Mosley moves to guard. Good feet, he started as a TE.

Love Jones in the second. Pead would be good in the third as well.

My QB has 2 rings. Well, 3 if you want to get technical.

2012 NYG mock - 1: Dwayne Allen TE, 2: Brandon Boykin CB/RS, 3: A.J. Jenkins WR, 4: Vick Ballard RB, 5: Neiko Thorpe S, 6: Rishard Matthews WR/RS, 6: Blake DeChristopher G/T, 7: BPA

Interesting.

Tannehill will end up with the Redskins; but I’m not sure he’ll last that long. Then again, given your scenario, after Washington’s #6, who would pick Tannehill in the first? Dallas? The Jets? Probably not. Maybe he would fall that far. Very interesting.

I’ve seen these reports about Seattle being interested in Manning. I’m curious about their plans. How much does Carroll covet Matt Barkley? How much would signing Manning reduce the likelihood that Seattle would be in position to draft Barkley next year? Will there be a draft in 2013 or were the Mayan’s correct? Lots of questions…so few answers.

I could really like this draft if @ he #22 spot a WR is taken. That getting done, this is a great mock for Cleveland. Addresses QB, WR, OL, BD, DE, & LB. Best mock for Cleveland so far.

Colts

Not really sure about going corner twice in a row. Jerraud Powers is a good starting corner, it’s just the Colts need someone opposite him. Between Jacob Lacey, Kevin Thomas, and Chris Rucker there is decent depth and the Colts have a ton of needs. I’d keep Minnifield and go with either Winn or Green.

No wild about Quick because he’s a development project and Indy needs some who can play right away. Fortunately you’ve got Broyles falling out of the fourth, but he is definitely my favorite WR in the middle rounds. I think Brooks or Martin make more sense

by TrueBlue87 on Feb 22, 2012 11:52 AM EST reply actions

Quick as much as I've read about him, is supposed to be a massive sleeper.

His size is ideal for a top flight WR, and supposedly he has excellent speed and is one of the most reliable big WRs in the draft in terms of hands. With the way the Colts WRs are going, I’d say the Colts end up keeping Gonzo and playing Gonzo at Right Side Wideout with Quick opposite him and Collie in the slot. Garcon will likely be out of the Colts price range, and Wayne most definitely. And in terms of rebuilding, I think offense can wait while we maximize the draft picks we have. A pair of 5th round compensatory picks for Session and CJ (since they both got massive contracts and significant playing time) would allow the Colts to have a draft of…

1) QB Luck
2) CB Minnifield
3) CB Flemming
4) WR Quick
5) DT Chapman
5) WR Marvin Jones
5) OG Ryan Miller
6) WR Broyles
7) C Garth Gerhart

As for the double down on CB, the reason I went with that is because in the last 3 years we have not ended the season with both starting CBs being the same as at the start of the year. While typically, 3 CBs are all we’d need, the Colts need at least 4 to see them through the season generally. Lacey is very underrated In my opinion, and if used correctly could be just as effective as Powers when balancing out the lack of tackling errors by Lacey vs. having a better zone CB in Powers. Thomas, I don’t trust at all. He was exceedingly hit and miss in ways much worse than anyone attributed to Lacey. Rucker I’m developing a fondness for, though. In his limited role he wasn’t horrible. I’d like to see how he develops.

I highly doubt Chapman lasts until the 5th. He’s probably going in the second or third. WHile Broyles would be a steal in the 6th, if the Colts want him they’re gonna have to take him in the fourth because I don’t think he lasts until the sixth. I give Thomas a pass because last year was essentially his rookie season, so mistakes are to be expected. I expect a sophomore jump.

I’d love Gerhart in the seventh and would even take him in the sixth. He looks like the perfect center to pair with luck.

I’ve read a lot about Quick and while he might be a sleeper he is a development project and the Colts need someone to play right away. I almost think the Colts let Gonzo walk and try to get Garcon in at a reasonable price because Gonzo just can’t stay healthy.

I don’t think the Colts get two fifth round picks. Probably more like a fifth and a sixth.

by TrueBlue87 on Feb 22, 2012 1:38 PM EST up reply actions

It would be poetic justice for Pollak to get placed by the same guy who replaced him at Arizona State.

Chapman is a riser, thats for sure, but based on current rankings and the way I had the draft playing out he was there at the top of the 5th.

I agree that its wait and see on Thomas, but Rucker played better than Thomas did, which I think is significant. A 3rd rounder outplayed by a 6th rounder. Thomas just has to step up his game a lot.

As for Gonzo, 2 knee injuries that he couldn’t avoid don’t constitute an inability to stay healthy. He was healthy this year and management simply didn’t want to play him. And besides, I don’t think the Colts will have enough free capital to really go after Garcon or Mathis. They may free up an extra $6-9M, but in all likelihood most of that will have to be spent on bringing back all the non-star backups that make up 50% of the team. Once they pay out that they end up with peanuts left to sign Garcon. And when push comes to shove unless they go 2-3 WRs in the draft and multiple high pick WRs, they are going to be left with development WRs across the board. And Gonzo will be cheap, like vet minimum cheap, which means the Colts can retain him for an extra year as a stop gap. I’ll take my chances on a guy with Collie’s hands and Garcon’s speed on a short term, low cost contract when the team is starved for cash.

No man should escape our universities without knowing how little he knows.

Bills

I haven’t seen a Bills draft quite like this yet. I don’t have an issue with the picks in the first, third or the second in the fourth. I actually don’t have a big problem with the first pick in the fourth, but it is affected by my issue in the second. If the Bills go Wide Receiver in the first, they are almost compelled to go pass rusher in the second, and that would likely mean Vinny Curry. If that is the case, I would then say they would likely go Osweiler at the beginning of the fourth.

I don't see Denver taking a C in the first

Walton was taken in the 2nd round just two drafts ago and has started every game since, albeit not at an all-pro level, it’s not an immediate area of need. I would like to see us add a C in free agency or later in the draft to push Walton, however it’d be a shock if we spent a 1st on any interior lineman that isn’t Decastro, who won’t fall to us. Any of your picks 27-31 are better fits for us, with CB and DT being highest priority.

I like you’re 2nd and 3rd round picks a lot, and would even go as far as to say they are my dream picks for those rounds(with trying to be realistic). I’m not high on Cousins at all, and not in the 4th, but i guess i could see it, though i think we’d take Russell Wilson or Foles ahead of him.
