Updated pre-Combine 2012 NFL Draft top 100
After the position rankings were updated this week, the top 100 had to match up. Find the top 100 after the jump (or here) and let me know what you think. If you've been coming to the site throughout this draft year, not a lot should catch you off guard.
When I put these together, they start as position groups and I pick from the top of each. As always, rankings are not necessarily an indicator of where a player will be drafted. Have your own top 100? Put it in a Fan Post. Look for this list to reach 150 or 200 before the draft. Note and report links will be added after I return from the Combine next week. See the positional rankings here:

Alabama players getting some love
And I like to see Thompson this high. Everyone is sleeping on him, but if you watch game tape and not highlight videos, you see he beats his blockers on every single play.
However, I think Branch is too high. Good run defender, but I think he lacks the speed around the edge for the pro level.
I have my DVR all set for 32 hours of live combine. Can’t wait.
My QB has 2 rings. Well, 3 if you want to get technical.
2012 NYG mock - 1: Dwayne Allen TE, 2: Brandon Boykin CB/RS, 3: A.J. Jenkins WR, 4: Vick Ballard RB, 5: Neiko Thorpe S, 6: Rishard Matthews WR/RS, 6: Blake DeChristopher G/T, 7: BPA

Kendricks
Dan
First like that you included Mychal Kendricks in your top 100. He’s very good and will go higher than most expect. I left him out of my top 100 but only by accident as I had him rated as a 3-4. Nice rankings and like in the inclusion of Ryan Broyles as well
Not buying into the Rueben Randle Rise just yet?
Now, I don’t feel so bad.
I am most surprised in your Nick Perry ranking #60, love to know is it just too small for 4-3 DE, not good enough in coverage for 3-4 OLB?
It's the need for pass rushers
As durst said, these guys are all too small and/or too slow. It is just like the Maybin and English year.
There is way too much focus in these mocks on need. Before anyone mocks a right tackle in the Top 10, they should look up the last time that happened.

I agree way too much focus on need
I’m as guilty as anyone. Should be ready for BMM2 soon.

I'm not buying Dennard that low
Glad someone else agrees with me on Coby Fleener, I think Dwayne Allen is a better overall prospect.

Surprised how low you have Fletcher Cox in these rankings.
51 seems low to me. Maybe it’s me but I love the kids quickness and burst off the line. I like him more than I like Still, Worthy and Thompson as far as DT’s go.
Wooooot! one of my teams made the postseason and won! PLAYOFFS!!!1

Come on Toronto teams, one of you make the goddamn playoffs.

Wow, Mark Barron dropped to 39!
The Cowboys may actually get a 2nd rd steal for the 3rd year in a row if, if he falls down to 45 in the coming weeks.

Damnit Rorshach
can’t I enjoy the thought for a little bit?
I agree someone at the end of the first rd will take him.

Going out on a huge limb
Michael Brockers, Ryan Tannehill, and Chandler Jones will be the biggest buts in this draft if they go in the top 50.
1) Michael Brockers: in two year’s worth of playing time at LSU, he only produced 2 sacks and 11 tackles for loss. Sure he’s got measureables, but he’s never put it together. What makes anyone think he’ll become the player he wasn’t in college. This has the makings of a guy who will get fat on his contract and wash out after that, if he goes top 15. The better prospect would be Jared Crick, however his injury took him out of the first rd.
2) Ryan Tannehill has shown some potential in his 1 1/2 years as a starter. He was listed as a WR on TAMU’s depth chart in 2010. He needs more time to develop, if he goes in the top 50, there will be pressure to play him by next season. He won’t be ready. Down the road, maybe 3 years from now he’ll he ready to play, but he still needs to learn the position right now. The better prospect is Kirk Cousins, who will probably get taken after Tannehill.
3) Chandler Jones: He’s got the physique to play as pass rusher in the 34/43 schemes. But I just don’t see the sack production that says he’s going to be good. His solid tackle for loss numbers suggest he’ll be a decent run stopper, but that doesn’t mean he should be taken in the top 50.

I agree on Tannehill, I think he sucks
disagree on Brockers and Chandler. Brockers was the best DL on the best DL in college football. Can’t really take DT production into account, he’s gigantic, a raw athlete and a pain in the ass to block.
Chandler Jones is the same thing really. He’ll benefit from NFL coaching and training.
Actually I think both should be Giants. And they ’d really reach their potential.

As a DT, Jared Crick had 20 sacks in 3 seasons
10 came in 2010 (Suh was playing in the NFL).

I like Crick
He’s stronger than his size would indicate.
But I’d pick Glenn for biggest butt.

Polini has always had ultra productive defensive tackles
Suh was put in a similar attacking system in the pros, one that make Albert Haynesworth look good too under the Schwartz.
Glenn Dorsey looked like Warren Sapp in college until he was required to do other things along the line.
Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
Speaking of Dorsey
How does Brockers compare to him in your opinion? Dorsey had better numbers during his time at LSU than Brockers put up the past two seasons.

Brockers is much taller and stronger
Dorsey might have been better if he was allowed to stick in a 4-3, but Brockers, while he also would be limited in the 3-4 is a lot more suited to it. Brockers to me will fall somewhere in between Richard Seymour and Chris Canty.
Like with any college DT, its not about the numbers.
Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
I think Brockers future is as a DE in the 3-4
He’s a better prospect but kind of the same as Adam Carricker. Carricker would have been much better if left at DE and in a 3-4. I don’t think it’s too late for him but he needs to be in the right system, good thing the skins changed over.
Wolf. Wolfgang Wolf
Yeah, he played pretty well for them this year. 5.5 sacks I think?

Where were those guys this year?
Nobody could get to the QB this year with Crick getting knocked out. Not even Baker Steinkuhler. The system isn’t really to create pressure. It’s to maintain your gap and let us drop more guys into coverage. We’ve just had a couple beasts that have been able to get to the QB anyway.

that's cuz Steinkuhler sucks.
this isn’t just Nebraska, its dating back to LSU when Polini was there.

Steinkuhler's not really a pass-rusher.
And Terrence Moore is just average. Chase Rome showed some things, but not a whole lot. The problem with this defensive game-plan is it does rely on having freaks like Dorsey and Suh to create pressure on their own. He rarely sends more than a 4-man rush. It didn’t work this year, as you can tell by Nebraska’s depressingly low sack total. You know more about football than I do, but I don’t think the system is designed to get numbers for DTs. Pelini has just had tremendous interior pass-rushers in the last couple years that have allowed him to call the game the way he has.

I agree somewhat on Brockers
Maybe he’s good enough for first round status, but many have him as a top 10 pick. 15 sounds better to me than most but maybe a little high yet, but all the DTs are clumped pretty close together with Still probably mid-first and the next 6-8 low1st to high 3rd.

I was a little surprised to see Reiff next to that big of a number
Scouting on him has been varied though, but behind Martin? We’ll see, I guess.

Major differences
I compared this list with the “”http://www.mockingthedraft.com/2012/2/18/2808513/consensus-big-board-1-0" >consensus" one, looking for players where you differed by more than 16 (half a round, which struck me as a decent indication of some substantial difference.) I thought it might be interesting to look at (an incomplete list of) those cases as the most controversial ones.
You’re higher on Mercilius (18 vs. 40) Stephen Gilmore (27 vs. 55), Chris Polk (32 vs. 54), Vinny Curry (38 vs. 56), Dwight Jones (41 vs. unrated), Chandler Jones (44 vs. unrated)
You’re less confident about Mark Barron (39 vs. 20), Vontaze Burfict (46 vs. 25).
