BBI's Pre-Combine Big Board (Top 75)
With Dan's big board coming out, decided to put out the one that I have, pre-combine.
Disclaimer - My opinions and observations. Will definitely change post-combine.
1) Andrew Luck, QB - No brainer.
2) Trent Richardson, RB - Best RB prospect since AP.
3) Matt Kalil, OT - Best pass protector I've seen in college in the past 4 years. Last great one was Jake Long.
4) Robert Griffin III, QB - Cam Newton opened things up for ultra-athletic QBs, which is exactly what RGIII is.
5) David DeCastro, OG - Poor positional value, but exceptional talent. Not often can you guarantee multiple future probowls, but I think you can here.
6) Morris Claiborne, CB - Basically a Patrick Peterson clone.
7) Justin Blackmon, WR - Physical, great hands, excellent route runner. Not as good as Green or Jones, but close.
8) Dre Kirkpatrick, CB - I think he has the highest upside of any DB in the draft.
9) Quinton Coples, DE - Problems with motor, but if he wants to play, he's as good a prospect as I've seen.
10) Luke Kuechly, ILB - Virtually no weaknesses in his game, questions about athleticism are unfounded, I think.
11) Michael Brockers, DT - Doesn't have a great array of moves, but the size/speed combo impossible to ignore.
12) Alshon Jeffrey, WR - Must think I'm crazy, but I think the rumors are unfounded. Top 10 pick in 2010, and the only reason he suffered this year was from consistent double coverage, loss of Marcus Lattimore, and a drunk QB.
13) Melvin Ingram, DE - Lots of comparisons to Justin Tuck. I can see it.
14) Jonathon Martin, OT - A poor man's Matt Kalil, incidentally. Does everything well, but I did see him struggle a bit versus power rushers.
15) Michael Floyd, WR - Size/speed combo again. Has the production to match it.
16) Courtney Upshaw, OLB - I don't think he's got an elite first step, but he's powerful and knows how to get good leverage
17) Riley Reiff, OT - I think his skillset is reminiscent of Brian Bulaga.
18) Mark Barron, SS - I love Barron's physicality and leadership. Would be an enforcer type, but isn't the greatest in coverage.
19) Devon Still, DT - Inconsistency is a big problem, but he's shown ability to be a good run stopper and pass rusher.
20) Janoris Jenkins, CB - Thought he could've been a 1st rounder last year. Boom or bust.
21) Cordy Glenn, OG - I'm his biggest fan. Great athleticism for size. Played LT and held his own. Could be very good RT or dominant guard in the NFL. His footwork combined with the size gives him high upside.
22) Whitney Mercilus, DE - Athletic with production. Great first step and decent size.
23) Zach Brown, OLB - Speed. Speed. Speed. Instincts and tackling technique suspect though.
24) Peter Konz, OC - Could have been one of the best OC prospects I've seen in terms of strength and pass blocking. Haven't seen him get bowled back. Kind of low because of health concerns.
25) Dwayne Allen, TE - Great body control, experience as a blocker - a better blocking Brandon Pettigrew.
26) Kendall Wright, WR - I don't see what other draftniks see. He's explosive and fast, but I guess I just haven't watched enough tape on him to see him beat press coverage.
27) Lamar Miller, RB - Great acceleration + great vision + great upper body strength = successful NFL RB. He has stick legs though, and I have some worries about him getting taken down a little too easily at the knees.
28) Dont'a Hightower, LB - Great instincts, great leadership, big, powerful thumper. Limited lateral agility and slow, so I think he's limited to 3-4 ILB.
29) Mike Adams, OT - Brilliant senior bowl, but he's been plagued with inconsistency and character problems.
30) Fletcher Cox, DT - I wasn't a fan at first, but then, after watching a few more games, he reminds me more and more of Nick Fairley. Great at getting penetration, and a good gap shooter.
31) Dontari Poe. NT - Mammoth of a man that's also good at pass rushing. Reminds me of Linval Joseph.
32) Alfonzo Dennard, CB - I'm not buying his stock dropping that low. He has good size, and he's got great tape from 2010 opposite Prince Amukamara. He did well vs Nick Toon from Wisconsin. He got beat vs Alshon Jeffery, but as UKRedskin showed, he's a very good press corner.
33) Chase Minniefield, CB - I think he's the most scheme versatile corner and probably the best zone guy. Great instincts, not great speed.
34) Brandon Thompson, DT - I think he's one of the most athletically gifted DTs in the draft, and people are forgetting that.
35) David Wilson, RB - Again, ridiculous speed. Similar to Miller, one-cut, shoot the gap style running. Doesn't quite have Miller's explosiveness though.
36) Chandler Jones, DE - I probably have him higher than most. He's fast as hell, but has somewhat of a thin frame. Hard to believe at 265 lbs, but I think he has room to add a few more pounds. His quickness is probably what will form the foundation for him to grow as a passrusher.
37) Kelechi Osemele, G/OT - Immense player that I've got bets on to win the bench press at this year's combine.
38) Mohamed Sanu, WR - I'm down on him more than others simply because of the whole separation issue. I think there's a difference between him and Jeffrey, I've seen Alshon get plenty of separation before. I haven't seen that from Sanu. Both struggle against press coverage, but I think Alshon uses his body better to box out defenders than Sanu...who, to his credit, has made some insane catches before.
39) Ronnell Lewis, OLB - I think he's a great pass rusher that's got all the physical tools. A few character concerns.
40) Stephon Gilmore, CB - Athletically gifted, but I've seen him goof on his fair share of coverages at USC.
41) Vinny Curry, OLB - Was great at the Senior Bowl, but I went back and looked at him some more earlier on, and he didn't have the same burst that I saw, nor did he win the leverage battle and lean around the OTs like he did just this past month ago. I think I like Chandler Jones just a little more.
42) Jerel Worthy, DT - Mayock really likes him. I see someone who did really well against Peter Konz, but someone who disappeared against Nebraska. Maddeningly inconsistent, but he could still be a first rounder.
43) Coby Fleener, TE - Dominant as a receiver, raw as a blocker. Frame can add on some weight, but tremendous upside.
44) Nick Perry, DE - Raw. Raw . Raw. Just upside here because of his athleticism.
45) Brandon Weeden, QB - All the tools of a 1st round pick. Just the age issue.
46) Bobby Massie, OT - Monstrous run blocker, with great footwork. An athlete.
47) Kevin Zietler, OG - Can't go wrong with Wisconsin uglies.
48) Brandon Washington, OG/OT - Had an up and down time at Miami. I think he's a bit like his former teammate Orlando Franklin.
49) Jonathon Massaquoi, DE/OLB - Smallish for a DE, but the guy reminds me of Osi Umenyiora. Undersized Troy passrushers with an insane first step, but terrible run defenders.
50) Doug Martin, RB - Lacks elite speed, but has great balance with decent power. Poor man's Ray Rice with upside to get there.
51) Markelle Martin, SS - ct17 turned me onto him, so I started to pay attention and I liked what I saw. He's my number 2 safety in this class. Fundamentally sound hitter with good pass protecting skills.
52) Alameda Ta'amu, NT - I know he's had a great Senior Bowl, but I have him this low because I'd like to see more consistency with his pass rushing skills.
53) Dwight Jones, WR - As you can see, I don't take too much stock in the Senior Bowl. I love Jones' skill set, with his size and projected 4.5 speed. He has small hands, which might hurt him some.
54) Jayron Hosley, CB - I think he has fluid hips and would be an excellent slot corner. He's fast too. I think he's way too small though at 5'9 170 lbs.
55) Jared Crick, DT - Wasn't having a great year even before his injury, but his 2010 showcased his athleticism.
56) Reuben Randle, WR - 6'4 size with good speed, but he doesn't have great tape. Disappeared at points during the year.
57) Harrison Smith, S - Probaby the 2nd smartest safety behind Mark Barron, he's like the opposite of Taylor Mays. Huge guy that isn't as athletic, but you never see him give up a huge play and he keeps things in front of him.
58) Vontaze Burfict, ILB - So much to hate about him. Work ethic, character, tackling fundamentals, instincts. His 2010 tape looked great, though.
59) Orson Charles, TE - Poor man's Aaron Hernandez.
60) Lavonte David, OLB - So much to love about him. Work ethic, character, tackling fundamentals, instincts. Problem is that he's a tweener, and I think he's too slow to be a safety, and too small to be a linebacker.
61) Bernard Pierce, RB - Probably the best power back in the draft, he's got decent size but hits the hole hard.
62) Amini Silatolu, OG - I'll admit that I knew next to nothing about him. After reading scouting reports and watching whatever videos I could, I can officially say I'm a fan.
63) Michael Brewster, OC - He gets overpowered sometimes, but he's wily and his technique is extremely sound.
64) Ryan Tannehill, QB - My bust meter with this guy is off the charts. I think he doesn't do a good job reading his progressions, he's had little experience at QB, and is skittish in the pocket when you apply pressure.
65) Brandon Boykin, CB - He's fast, but doesn't have fluid hips and probably will only play outside.
66) Audie Cole, ILB - Does a bit of everything well. Didn't see any of his games, but whatever film I could find, I saw a player that has good instincts, sniffs out plays, and is presence on run defense.
67) Andrew Datko, OT - Was quite a good player for the Seminoles before his shoulder injury. Particularly impressed with his pass blocking.
68) Bruce Irvin, OLB - Not a lot of great tape, but a hunch that this guys athleticism will make him shoot up the big boards after the combine.
69) Josh Norman, CB - The only time I've seen him is at the East-West Shrine game and again for just a little bit from the Senior Bowl. He absolutely destroyed that Shrine game and displayed great, sound, athleticism.
70) Chris Polk, RB - Does a bit of everything well, nothing really well. I think he can be a nice player that can spell a feature back with upside because of his balance and vision to eventually become a starter.
71) LaMichael James, RB - I question his ability to play at his size in the NFL, but there's no questioning that he's a playmaker.
72) Ben Jones, OC - Not much to say about him, he's got good size. Kind of tall at 6'2, and rarely gave up too much pressure in the pass game. I noticed that he had a bit of trouble sticking with his blocks while trying to run block, though.
73) Josh Chapman, NT - Had an up and down season, but then I found out he was playing with a torn ACL. Amazing and that's about as good an endorsement for his work ethic as you'll get.
74) Sean Spence, OLB - Very similar to Lavonte David. Really undersized, but always around the ball and very instinctive. David is a bit better as a pass rusher than Spence, which is why I ranked him higher.
75) Joe Adams, WR - We all saw what he did at the Senior Bowl and the inevitable comparisons to Desean Jackson.

I know we've gone over this, but I really think Danu is better than you give him credit for
He was consistently TRIPLE-teamed, while having an awful set of “QBs” “throwing” to him and still put up 115 catches. He doesn’t have nearly as much trouble getting separation as you say, and he dominated Leonard Johnson during press in the bowl game

this is what im trying to say as well
Gary Nova was ranked the 123rd best D1 QB last year out of 130 QBs and he was the starter for half the year. Dodd was not much better coming in at 82nd. And he was literally double or triple teamed on every single play. The fact that he caught any passes is impressive

I think Sanu is a value in the 2nd round,
could see him taken in the late-1st. The WR class, like the DT/DE class, is maddening to figure out this year.
It is what it is
their is little chance he falls past your second 1st if he does your 1st (1st)

I think Sanu and Jeffrey's stocks will be determined by the combine, because as insignificant as the combine is...the problem with them is measurables.
They run well, they are 1st rounders. If not, they are 2nd rounders. I really like Jeffrey, and the 3 games I watched Rutgers this season, I was impressed with Sanu, but not as impressed as I was over the ones ranked ahead of him.
So we’ll very well see after this week.

like usual i agree with most of what u said, but
38) Mohamed Sanu, WR – I’m down on him more than others simply because of the whole separation issue. I think there’s a difference between him and Jeffrey, I’ve seen Alshon get plenty of separation before. I haven’t seen that from Sanu. Both struggle against press coverage, but I think Alshon uses his body better to box out defenders than Sanu…who, to his credit, has made some insane catches before.
as mike was saying,
Sanu got triple covered a rediculios amount of times (2 CBs and a saftey or olb)
the big reason for his seperation issues was that schiano never had the trust in his oline to give his young and very unexperienced QBs enough time to throw it deep.
he ran 5-7 yard routes most of the time. he broke a lot of takles to get to 1200 yds.
and i think i remember once in his whole career that he dropped a pass.
what you also have to factor in is his KR/PR ability
and his ability to run the wildcat
he has a superb arm for a QB
and is a very solid runner, holds on to the ball well.
sanu’s speed is really underapreciated
ive seen him break some
he doesnt have elite speed
but think of wes welker or hakeem nicks speed
he’s probably the best weapon in the draft.
i think the combine will bump him to #2 WR taken

Having seen Jeffery play
and only seeing highlights of Sanu, I’d say the reason Jeffery is getting the nod over Sanu is because he played well in the SEC, the best conference in football. That’s what I’m gathering.
I don’t have a dog in this fight, but if you asked me 1 month ago who I thought was better, I would have said Jeffery. If you ask me today, I’ll say Jeffery. Can the combine change that? Yeah, if Sanu performs better in the drills.
Tag Team name for Sean Lee and Bruce Carter is RUSH HOUR
understandable.
but ive watched a little of jeffrey, and all of sanu
and i dont think jeffrey can single handly take over a game.
where as sanu literally won games for RU
i remember a game where he passed, rushed, caught, returned for tds and intercepted the last throw of the game.

Wildcat isn't a very NFL relative argument
And it isn’t like Jeffery had a great QB throwing to him either. Honestly I think Jeffery has the tools to be a better player, but depends on how much motivation he gets. And I can’t see Sanu being the #2 WR taken, Floyd is really good and has great physical attributes.
ive watched floyd play (not as much as sanu obviously, and not in person)`
but i dont see anything in him that was as great as sanu’s game.
he has the skills.
but sanu is way underrated where as floyd may be a tad to overrated

I think Sanu is a playmaker and a very good WR. Don't get me wrong, just 'cause I have him ranked that low
doesn’t mean I think he’s bad. Absolutely not, I like him as a prospect.
Alshon Jeffery in 2010 had 80+ catches 1517 yards 17.2 YPC 9 TDs. Compare that with Sanu at 115 catches 1200 yds 10.5 YPC 7 TDs.
Jeffrey faced more of the same sorts of issuees that Sanu did. Again, like I said, we’ll see what happens in the combine. If Sanu does really well, there’s no doubt in my mind that he will jump up these rankings. I think he’s a fringe 1st rounder right now, and I wouldn’t mind taking him with our 1st rounder.

I just can't believe how many Rutgers homers there are
Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
There is a reason Rutgers players have an amazing pro track record recently
by miketrout on Feb 23, 2012 4:56 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
This is per Rotoworld
One longtime NFL executive agrees with NFL Network’s Mike Mayock that Rutgers WR Mohamed Sanu struggles to separate from defensive backs.
Sanu caught a ton of passes at Rutgers, but averaged under 11 yards per catch. “Some people compare him to Anquan Boldin,” said the exec, “but I don’t see Boldin’s suddenness in him. I don’t think (Sanu) can really run, get open, or get off the press. He’s physical, but everything’s in a clinch. It’s like watching two boxers that never get out of the clinch. I just don’t see the quick twitch to be a real good receiver. He’s built like Boldin or Hakeem Nicks, but they both separate.”
Like I said, I like him as a prospect, but I don’t think he has number 1 WR upside.
"We will not be denied." - Antrel Rolle
by BigBlueIntervention on Feb 23, 2012 5:33 PM EST up reply actions
thats what i dont understand tho, how do you not think he has #1 upside?
he is what the NFL is at the #1 WR, hakeem nicks, larry fitz, brandon marshall, clavin johnson etc. he has that go to guy mentality and skills.
but averaged under 11 yards per catch.
this prooves they never actually watched a game of him.
he averaged 11 yards a catch because almost every single one of his routes were 5 yarders. you cant look at a stat sheet to see if he can seperate. you have to look at games
that is a big reason why i think stats are almost useless when judging a player.
and any good GM doesnt use stats.
this is why u see teh giants getting great players who didnt have great stat sheets in college

Don't you think there's a reason he kept running 5 yard routes? He has trouble stretching the field. Again, I'm telling you he's a good player.
I don’t think he’s one of the top 3 WRs in the draft, and there’s plenty of evidence for that.
"We will not be denied." - Antrel Rolle
by BigBlueIntervention on Feb 23, 2012 8:59 PM EST up reply actions
Isn't it possible
that the reason he didn’t run many deep routes is due to the fact those Rutgers QBs have noodle arms, and the line play was suspect, so, to protect their QB from getting killed they called the short stuff?
I haven’t watched a game of Rutgers this year, so I have nothing specific to go off of, but if the people who watch Rutgers games are saying the same thing, maybe it’s not just blind homerism.
I have nothing invested when it comes to Sanu and Jeffery. I hope both guys play well in the NFL.
Tag Team name for Sean Lee and Bruce Carter is RUSH HOUR
by Rohpuri on Feb 23, 2012 10:43 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
I have nothing invested when it comes to Sanu and Jeffery either.
I don’t like nor hate either SC or Rutgers. Real LT is a Rutgers fan. I’ve watched games this season both, and my judgement is simply based on what I’ve seen. No bias.
Not only do I think Sanu is a good prospect, I think he has a chance to be successful. I see Jeffrey as a better player simply because
1) More production and better production over career
2) Bigger body with better body control with similar speed
3) Exact same problems as Sanu – shitty QB and shitty OL
4) Ran a much diverse route tree
5) Played against superior competition
6) Showed separation during deep routes, whereas Sanu’s deeper routes were contested
7) Both struggled vs press coverage, but Jeffrey was more explosive off the line and by virtue of his bigger body, had more success winning contested balls
Those are my reasons and I think they are legitimate ones. The combine drills will confirm and resolve the separation issue.
I’ve got Sanu on my big board as a very high 2nd rounder. I think that’s fair, and that’s on par with what most people have him as well. He can move up, and I’ve given him room to move up. But I’m not going to say he’s the 2nd best WR and “best playmaker” in the draft when I’ve seen significant time of all 4 WRs in question.

Those are fair reasons to have Jeffery higher
pre-combine. Just using my own similar thought process, I would’ve given the edge to AJ over MS. Hopefully MS has a good combine and forces people to take a second/third look.

It comes down to the person. Sure certain teams are better at helping their players become “NFL ready”, but if you don’t have all the tools, like being able to get separation for instance, you won’t make it in the league.

.. their were similar doubts to ray rice, and he was taken in the 2nd
he’s now the 2nd best back in the league and a lot of teams are regretting not taking him as the first HB in that draft.
WR’s are taken higher tho, so as you said with as good as a combine i think he will have, sanu can easily be the 2nd WR taken in the draft

Few Questions
- DeCastro at 5? Too high IMO think he should be closer to 11/12.
- Too Low of Reiff- Could see him going in top 6.
- I have began to watch more and more of Janoris Jenkins play and Im convinced hes gonna rise and go to panthers at 9 just my opinion but IF (big if) he does well on the interviews and his off campus issues are behind him really think he has a bright future.
- I would have Randle over Jones for the WR
- Think most of your comments are dead on especially on Lavonte David, Zach Brown and Whiteny Merciullus (to name a few)
- Havent finished looking at the second tier of CBs but not sure about that 3 spot Denard IMO is a bust waiting to happen.
Overall really nice job love to hear your answers to my questions. Rec’d
I agree about Dennard, I don't see much to like about him.
Somebody please show me what he is good at.
Ouch haha
I think he is one of the, if not the, best press cover corner. I’ve seen him jam the WR so hard at the LOS they are way too late to get into their routes.
He’s also pretty damn smart, I’d see him get off his coverage and move to another man before the ball was in the air…almost safety-esque in a way.
He’s terrible once you get past him, because he doesn’t have good closing speed and can’t turn his hips to adjust well, but if he keeps shit in front of him, he’s as good as any other corner in this draft. He’s a smaller Prince Amukamara.
He’s also a baller in run defense.

I agree exactly with what you say, his physicality at the LOS and around the field is impressive but It all depends on which teams wants him.
I think he could carry anything from a 1st round to a 4th round grade depending on what team you are and what system you play.

Not very likely. Unless he can raise his stock, he wouldn't be amazing value at 32
nor would he be a great fit in our scheme. I really, really like him, but if I were to choose for Fewell, I’d go with Chase Minnifield.

That would be awesome!
But, Dennard is not #32 unless something huge happens at combine and pro day and he will be gone by #64. I disagree with BBI about Dennard though. He is a lot like Prince, great lock-down, man corner. Prince was being misused a lot and that is why he had bad plays in the beginning. PF was not using him correctly. At NU, both Prince and Dennard had problems playing soft man or zone coverage. Much better when they jam at the line and lock the WR down. Both are good in run support. Dennard just does not have the speed, fluid hips, and awareness of Prince. Not that he does not have those things, just not on Prince’s level in those categories.

I see what your getting at here but I think Jimmy Smith as an example from last year is MUCH better than him. Yes he can jam WRs at the line but a big WR will shake that off and beat him for a big gain.

A big Board is purely talent wise, DeCastro will be drafted later because he plays guard. Rieff will be drafted higher because he plays tackle. DeCastro is a much better guard than Rieff is a tackle

Reiff/DeCastro – It isn’t about where they’ll go, cause you have to take positional value and need into account, this is just a list of how I think the prospects are. DeCastro is a once-in-quite-some-damn-time prospect at guard, whereas Reiff is certainly strong, but he ain’t the best prospect I’ve seen in years.
Jenkins – Reason I have him that low is character and size. He’s supremely talented though, and I won’t be shocked if he goes as high as you suggest.
Randle/Jones – This is another battle where we look at combine numbers to determine speed, but Randle disappeared for almost all of the two Alabama games. Also (and I think its just my bias), I prefer more physical WRs to speedier ones, so I liked Dwight Jones (who’s almost like a TE) a bit more. If they run similar 40 times, I’ll confirm this ranking, if not, I might have to go back and re-evaluate.

- Reiff/DeCastro- I think because of how important LT is (protecting blind side, etc) that when their are talented players at that position at least IMO they deserved to be bumped up but I see where your coming from.
- Jenkins- I wasnt criticizing your ranking for him I was just saying my opinion of him. I think you gave him a very fair ranking.
- Randle/Jones- I was a big Dwight Jones fan but after the Senior Bowl I need to see him have a strong combine (at least a solid one) to put him over Randle.

Position doesnt influence how players are graded in a “big board” format.. If you graded all these players out of 100 as prospects (all positions being equal) and sorted from highest→lowest, this list is BBI’s best guess as to what you’d find.
With that said, LT, QB, WR, DE, CB all get “bumped” up in the draft because of the position they play. If BBI makes another mock draft, you’ll see that. But as for a “big board” BBI’s list is spot on.
Great analysis
I have to agree with a lot here. Glad to see you are not afraid of having lots of RBs high.
My QB has 2 rings. Well, 3 if you want to get technical.
2012 NYG mock - 1: Dwayne Allen TE, 2: Brandon Boykin CB/RS, 3: A.J. Jenkins WR, 4: Vick Ballard RB, 5: Neiko Thorpe S, 6: Rishard Matthews WR/RS, 6: Blake DeChristopher G/T, 7: BPA
Thanks ct.

Nice board BBI
I agree with nearly everything, your thoughts on Dennard above are spot on.
Those I would have higher
Konz – not sure injuries were too serious.
David – too good a football player, his size wont be a problem for some teams.
Lower
Wilson – poor judgment and doesnt run between tackles vs top D lines well
Brown – seems to be very athletic but not necessarily a great footballer (imagine giving his athletic abilities to David!)
"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson
Thanks for the feedback Steve!
Konz had life threatening blood clots in both lungs. On top of which had a bunch of nicks and stuff that kept him out of games throughout his career at UW. David….I <3 him as a player. I almost cried when I put Burfict above him. I just think that he’s the worst type of tweener out there, and his skillset is extremely limited to certain schemes, and that limits his upside.
Wilson, I agree, he could be a bit lower. I fell in love with his speed though, I agree, his burst and strength aren’t elite.
Brown…rumors are running a 4.3 at 235lbs! Jeez. He’s got good sideline to sideline ability as well and is good in pass coverage, while having enough bulk to be somewhat of a presence in run defense.

I missed out on the blood clots story saw a few Wisconsin games this year and read up on him after being wowed by him. Thats worth thinking about as a Broncos fan, clots in lungs at Mile High might not be a great idea.
Wilson in open field and on the edge is possibly 1st round talent but rest of it is far from that. I hope he can prove me wrong because he could be fun to watch.
Yeah those stats about Brown incredible, I have heard concerns about tackling and coverage, two things David has no problems with and may run a faster 40 and importantly for him a faster cone drill than people may think. The Combine is really important for him.
"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson
blood clots aren't nessesarily as huge a problem
I’m betting he has a blood clotting disorder like factor 5 or something like that. Given it wasn’t discovered till now, he probably has the less serious version which as a person who has that and also had a life threatening pulmonary embolism, it isn’t as bad as you think. Once you know you have it you just have to take a few precautions and your fine. And none of them would effect his football playing even at a higher altitude.

If Brown runs 4.3
Ill be amazed. I think he will also benefit from the success of TEs this year as he is the perfect type of player to cover guys like Gronk, Graham, Hernandez.

Exactly. These trends go punch for punch.
In 2007, Giants set a trend for pass-rushing beasts as the way to defeat offenses.
Sometime after that, the Patriots and Saints countered with big, ultra-athletic TEs that can not only chip off rushers, but make insane adjustments and use their physical mismatches to take over games.
Now, I’m willing to bet the new trend will be these ultra-athletic 4-3 OLBs or 3-4 ILBS or massive SS’s that can match up with these guys and try to shut them down.

Hey Roh
Thanks for the kind words. Admittedly, as a student, I don’t have a tremendous amount of time to study prospects. Thank God for DVR, which is perpetually full, and just last month I finished watching all my games that I had accumulated over the season.
The problem with that is, I barely have time to keep up with big school prospects, that small school prospects don’t get their fair share. Fortunately, I was able to watch Hillman this year, though for only one game. I was watching the New Orleans bowl or whatever scouting Ladarius Green and Ryan Lindley. Hillman obviously had a pretty decent game, and more or less looked Sproles esque. Small dude, real fast, and with the agility to be able to dance in the backfield and take some time to find the right hole and explode through. He definitely is a sleeper candidate. I’m not sure who’s faster, him or LaMichael James…but by virtue of James being a much bigger hyped prospect, he’ll probably go first and set the stage for the rest of these small, elite, agile runners. Darren Sproles did ’em all a big favor, so yeah, I could see him going late day 2/early day 3
