Cowboys

Really? Gilmore at 14? With DeCastro right there? Bad pick

Do you need a guard worse than a CB?

I’ll make corrections on my next one based on what I hear here.

Its pretty even between G and CB

Newman and Ball will be gone so we expect 2 or 3 CBs in the draft this year. Meanwhile both G’s are old and kinda injury prone. Gilmore isn’t even close to the prospect DeCastro is so its an easy call IMO.

ok

noted. At least for now I know a little more. That drafttek thing is pretty generic and I really started to question how accurate or up to date it was so I’ll put up a post for team needs soon to solicit accurate positional needs.

yeah thats what it looks like

here’s how I’d list our needs
1a. CB
1b. G
2. C
3. FS
4. DE/ NT (there’s been talk about moving our current NT Ratliff to DE, so you could draft BPA at either position)
5. OLB (IF Spencer isn’t resigned and we’re not sure if he will be)
Overall I’d expect the cowboys to take one interior linemen in the first 4 rounds of the draft and go defense the rest of the way, and mostly DBs.

So if you had a chance to trade with Cleveland @ #4 and take Clairborne or Decastro?

Depending on how free agency goes, Cleveland could get most if not all they need on the offensive side of the ball. That would open other avenues towards pairing Haden and Clairborne up (that would be a damn fine CB pairing).

Not a big fan of trading up

It’d have to be for Claiborne since we really need CB I wouldn’t feel comfortable getting a G at 4. We have a lot of holes to fill and trading up is not gonna help.

by CaliCowboysFan92 on Feb 5, 2012 8:51 PM EST up reply actions

Agreed but DeCastro is not who I would want there.

Passing on Coples and Ingram for Gilmore? No way in hell.

There is guard depth in this draft. There is never depth for elite pass rushers.

If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

by Creasy729 on Feb 5, 2012 3:30 PM EST up reply actions

Not so sure about Couples

I’d be worried about how he’d fit in a 3-4 and his work ethic. As for Ingram he is a pretty good pass rusher but DeCastro is a better guard and you should take BPA in that case.

by CaliCowboysFan92 on Feb 5, 2012 8:54 PM EST up reply actions

I like Coples a lot at the 5-technique because he has a lot of experience at 4-3 DT

and he has the strength and first step to be elite at that position. Work ethic is obviously a slight concern but I think UNC football was a pretty tough place to play this past year with the coaching change and whatnot.

Ingram I think will kill the combine and give us a chance to plan for life as Ware eventually declines.

If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

by Creasy729 on Feb 5, 2012 10:37 PM EST up reply actions

I don't doubt that Coples could be a very good 3-4 DE

possibly elite, its clear he has a lot of talent. But do you think he wants to play in 3-4? I doubt he does. Coples seems like the guy that will be on and off during games. One play he makes an amazing play, next few plays he’ll disappear. I personally hope someone else takes him before us so we aren’t tempted. As for Ingram, I love him as a prospect, best 3-4 OLB in the draft IMO, but DeCastro seems like he could be a plug in player that make a few probowls too, and even if G isn’t as important a position as OLB you can’t pass that up.

Well I think Coples put a lot of concerns to rest at the Senior Bowl

but ultimately if we pick him I will be pretty confident that we did our homework.

And DeCastro will be good, but I think we need to invest in our defense.

If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

Bills

Not a fan of drafting the fourth tackle chosen when we’re up at number 10. If Jonathan Martin or Riley Reiff was available, I could see Buffalo considering it (especially if Demetrius Bell doesn’t resign). But if 3 of the first 9 picks were tackles, why not go to a position where you could get a real special talent, like Quinton Coples, Courtney Upshaw, or Michael Floyd?
I love the second and third round picks for Buffalo though. While I see Irvin as more of an elephant OLB to almost exclusively rush the passer (like Mathias Kiwanuka), there’s no denying he’d help our biggest need. And I’m a huge fan of Osweiler and think ours is the perfect situation to draft him into.

Not a fan of this mock for the Bills. I have a huge problem with them taking Adams, I haven’t been a big fan of mocks that had them taking Reiff or Martin, when I felt there were much more dire needs for the Bills, but Adams at ten I just can’t see. I think Curry is a better pick in the 2nd then Irvin.

are the Jest running a 4-3 all of a sudden?

Coples would be horrifically out of position on a 3-4 team, he’s a 4-3 DE. He’s got the size and strength to fool you that he might play in a 3-4, but sort of like Justin Tuck that;s just really, really dumb to waste a talent like that.

Lewis is a 3-4 rush OLB. Fits the Jest better.

The JeTs run a hybrid scheme, with just as much (if not more) 40 fronts as 30.

There’s speculation that with the hire of Dunbar (former DL coach of Vikes) that we’ll switch more of a 40 front base D.

If the opportunity to draft a guy like Coples presents itself, you pull the trigger and adjust the scheme.

Ronnell Lewis really has no bitniz being considered in the first round, let alone the top 20.

Ingram might make for a better pick

but even he’s sort of a tweener. He’s 6"1 275, plays DT but can move around all over the place. I think Rexy had Adailus Thomas for him, so Ingram might work out like that.

But Lewis is a good player and should rise up the boards. Coples is a terrible pick and Ingram vs. Lewis is a tossup.

I used the team needs page from DrafTek

Team needs are definitely gonna be my weak point here. If there is a problem, that’s probably it. You should view this as a call for help. That’s the first step in dealing with a problem. I’ll take a lot longer on my next one when I know more about actual team needs than what I got off of this site.

by dbcouver on Feb 4, 2012 1:35 AM EST reply actions

One big change is that the Bills are switching to a 4-3 this offseason (which wasn’t reflected yet on DraftTek’s site). With that change, Buffalo’s biggest need by far becomes a 4-3 RDE (our depth chart for that position is Shawne Merriman and Kyle Moore – we need a star and depth).

The Chiefs shouldn't invest a top 15 pick into a running back Charles already here.

Everyone wants to pair Richardson with him and make this amazing backfield but Charles wants records and he wants to be great. I’m sure Richardson wants the same and you can’t keep both happy. That being said this draft worked out horribly for the Chiefs. We have a desperate need at RT and all 4 tackles are gone. I could see an attempt to trade down to Chicago, hoping to grab Decastro, or Cincinatti hoping to grab Decastro or Richardson.

GB obviously needs a DL and an OLB.

You addressed both of those, so kudos to you. After that, it’s mostly depth and looking to the future. Another 2 DBs (1 CB, 1 S) would be good. Possibly another RB for the rotation, but not too early. You can never go wrong drafting an OL for depth at some point.

I’m not really sure what the team is thinking either. Hawk had a bad year after doing well last season, but the rookie D.J. Smith played pretty well when he was called on and Des Bishop is a stud. I’d be surprised if Scott Wells doesn’t re-sign. He’s so important to the team. He is getting older, but I don’t know about taking a C just yet. Maybe a G who could play C also?

Also, I think g is more of a depth pick unless DeCastro falls or something like that. T.J. Lang wasn’t bad at all, and while Josh Sitton had a down year he’s still a monster.

We’ll probably take a RB to add to the rotation, but it shouldn’t be an early pick.

I’d be surprised if we didn’t end up with at least one of each of your first 4 positions though.

Broncos

Sorry but I think I would cry if this happens.

The Broncos have two young safeties and two young WRs I would prefer to see them given a chance to develop and add to positions where there is a need for youth and at a position where those first two picks would get a lot of playing time such as DT, CB, RB.

if not purely because of the guy from Oregon’s off the field issues(i think i recall him having some of those)

Let me help you out with Cliff Harris CB UO

He’s the definition of not being very smart off the field. However he hasn’t hurt anyone or done anything real bad, unless you consider driving 107 mph, and then agreeing to pull over when you see the lights go on bad. He smoked a little weed, missed a couple court appointments, andafter a few too many team rule violations finally was dismissed from the team.

He’s young and immature, but the guys a game changing player. He’s a ballhawking CB who both covers like a straight jacket and returns interceptions for good yardage. He’s a top notch punt returner, too. If he’s kept his nose clean long enough to play this last year he’d be mentioned in the same circles as the honey badger.

Wolf. Wolfgang Wolf

by dbcouver on Feb 4, 2012 10:57 PM EST up reply actions

i googled him

Has a couple issues concerning maturity off the field but has the makings to be a very good CB. In the third round, it is less risky to select him and I would be on board with the selection due to him being very talented (CB/KR) and not needing a 1st or 2nd draft pick.

But thank you a lot for responding, I like this mock. ‘A’ quality for the Jaguars

Bucs

Love the Claiborne and LMJ picks. I don’t like Lavonte David there, I think it is too early for him. In this mock I probably take BPA, Alshon Jeffery at that spot as a slipping first round talent. Although there is no denying our desperate need at linebacker.

by aakks on Feb 4, 2012 8:40 AM EST reply actions

If alshon is there we gotta take him without hesitation

by bucs86forever on Feb 4, 2012 10:04 PM EST via Android app up reply actions

Giants draft isn't too good.

Miller is an OK pick, but with Alshon Jeffrey inexplicably falling there, that’s the pick.

Levy Adcock sounds like one of those NY Amish jewlers, but as far as playing OT the dude’s got cement blocks on his feet, we don’t needs that here. I mean with more first round caliber players inexplicably falling like Chase Minnifield (that’s really an easy one…) or Fletcher Cox, there’s plenty of other options.

3rd round is even worse. Emmanual Acho is a DE, he’s just a tweener. Don’t see really what he’s gonna do here the Giants want more speed in their LBeezers.

also agree

There is a bunch of great guys at the top of the 2nd and 3rd that are better picks. At positions we value more, like WR and CB. These picks are repeating positions we drafted last year as well.

I’d take Jeffrey in the 1st, Minnifield in the 2nd. BPA picks, at positions we love to draft for frequently, where there are UFAs we cannot afford to resign, and East Coast players. Fits our trends 100%.

In the 3rd, the good OL are gone, as are any real SAMs or TEs. Maybe Brandon Taylor, S, LSU. Or releasing Miller knocks every RB back, gives us Cyrus Gray. I might consider Adcock in the 3rd as a left guard.

2012 NYG mock - 1: Janoris Jenkins CB, 2: Kevin Zeitler G, 3: A.J. Jenkins, WR, 4: Neiko Thorpe S, 5: Vick Ballard RB, 6: Rishard Matthews WR, 6: some random LB, 7: BPA

by ct17 on Feb 4, 2012 2:25 PM EST up reply actions

You want another LG?

I think Petrus has enough talent to be our starter there, and Adcock wouldn’t be better. I don’t really see Guard being a position we go after, unless it’s to replace Snee, which while he is having a bad season, is pretty unlikely.

by #56 4life on Feb 4, 2012 6:44 PM EST up reply actions

I think it is open competition

Maybe Boothe gets the job. At some point soon I can see us getting a guy like Adcock who can play guard and tackle so Diehl can be cut.

I’ve also been wondering lately, as I forecast our future and recall Reese’s comments last year, and remember last preseason, if Brewer is being groomed for the left side and not the right.

2012 NYG mock - 1: Janoris Jenkins CB, 2: Kevin Zeitler G, 3: A.J. Jenkins, WR, 4: Neiko Thorpe S, 5: Vick Ballard RB, 6: Rishard Matthews WR, 6: some random LB, 7: BPA

by ct17 on Feb 5, 2012 12:17 AM EST up reply actions

It is open, that's true

But I don’t think the Giants spend a 1st round pick on a position that can be filled from in house

Hightower to the Lions is a terrible pick.

First of all, he doesn’t fit their defense. He is a 3-4 ILB, not a 4-3 MLB. Also, he is so slow 3-4 teams don’t even want him. Looking at who’s left on the board when they pick, they would probably rather go with Jenkins, Glenn, or maybe even Burfict.

also pass rusher and guard are huge needs for us and decastro and coples are much better prospects at positions of need then gilmore

Well I could just plug and play the same thing everyone else does

And you’d just be reading the same thing over and over. I’m thinkin J Jones may shy away from Jenkins for a bigger CB.

so your picks are just to be different

i hate when people do that, if your gonna do a mock do it right, not just to stir up controversy

Stirring up controversy is not and never will be my driving force.

But I gotta admit I think I need to work on one thing though. I seem to like poking at someone who I think takes things just a little too seriously. It must be a sign that I need to find something a little more constructive to do.

Sorry but i don't like anything you did here for Denver.

Didn’t really go BPA or team needs. You left Devon Still who is a higher BPA and more of a need. Even Dwayne Allen is a better BPA and would be a much better weapon. I think we can get a WR later and will look CB, DT, RB, RT as needs and would only get Floyd if he really was far and away the best player left. I’m not ready to give up on Rahim Moore yet to pick another safety so early. Plus, I could take, or leave, Cyrus Gray.

There are no apostrophes in plurals.
A lot is two words. Allot can be one word but it has another meaning.
The only time you really want to use "myself" is when you are the recipient of your own action. Usually you're better off using "me."
Your is not the correct contraction of you are. The word you're looking for is you're.
It's anyway, not anyways.
But if you only remember one thing...

I guess I should have given you guys a linebacker first. I’ll give you that, what else do you think you need?

Besides LB, WR (if DeSean leaves), S (but I don’t think any are worth it at pick 15), DT/DE

poll was the best part

the draft had me scratching my head a lot.

Try not to take the above message too seriously.

Panthers

I like Kirkpatrick in the 1st. I’m not a fan of us taking O-Line, but you cant argue with the value of Glenn in the 2nd

I wanna be the very best, like no one ever was

Two things I disagree with on the Texans picks

1. I doubt that Kendall Wright falls to the 2nd round, or that the Texans would take him since he doesn’t fit the scheme. The Texans West Coast Offense does not require deep threats to stretch the field. Kubiak likes his WRs tall, over 210 lbs, and to have good hands & blocking skills, which Wright doesn’t meet those requirements.

2. Where the hell is Mohammed Sanu?? He’d be the perfect WR for the Texans

Murphy’s 20th Military Law:
If it’s stupid, but it works, it ain’t stupid
"Fuck em all. Go Texans."

by The Night Owl on Feb 5, 2012 2:08 AM EST reply actions

Sanu did fall out, huh?

Well that can’t be right. I don’t have him as a first rounder, however, he won’t fall out of the second. That won’t happen on my next one

Rams

Interesting selections overall. I have fundamental disagreements with some selections; but I do like the idea of The Rams trading back for additional picks. Do you think The Rams could acquire some talent from The Redskin roster as a part of the compensation package as well?

by ValdezY on Feb 5, 2012 1:24 PM EST reply actions

I think we can rape Snyder for his next of kin

If he thinks someone else wants RGIII, so yeah probably get a player or 2. I think I’d rather supplement with an extra 1st rounder next year though. Waiting till next year is how I want to address our continuing WR problem. And I know you like Blackmon and want us to wait until later in the draft or FA for the big uglies. It’s sound thinking, but if we can fix the line this year, even if we do nothing else, next year maybe we can concentrate on our Holt and Bruce of the future.

I Will Concede To Drafting

Interior O-Linemen with additional draft picks. OG/OT Cordy Glenn, Georgia and C Phillip Blake, Baylor are a couple of Big Nasties that even an old disagreeable fart like myself would agree with. And you thought I was only interested in acquiring Blackmon! LOL!

by ValdezY on Feb 6, 2012 7:47 AM EST up reply actions

Oh no I know you're open minded

I don’t think you’re disagreeable at all. You bring a lot to the table, too. I think we’re gonna see a downward trend in the Blackmon stock, though. Probably an unfair one, it’s a long time till Draft weekend. What are you thinking for OLBs this year? Where do you put them and DTs in order of importance for us. Also Free agency is gonna change things for everyone.

Rams OLB and DT's

I think the 2012 LB class has a lot of solid players that could help The Rams; especially the WIL OLB:

1.Zach Brown. His speed and coverage ability would be a welcome addition to a defense that has little of either.

2.Bobby Wagner. I like the way the kid does the little things well. He stays disciplined in his assignments; his instincts are excellent, and he can play both outside and inside.

3. Nigel Bradham. Rangy OLB who is effective in coverage. He will lay the wood. When Fla St faced Miami this past season; Bradham layed a lick on one of Miami’s receivers near the goaline. Bradham was subsequently kicked out of the game. The refs got it wrong. The hit while ferocious, was legal. That type of LB can put genuine fear in WR’s coming across the middle.

4. Danny Trevathan. Lateral speed is one of his best attributes. He closes fast and makes sure tackles.

5. Terrell Manning. Tall OLB with speed. He does a decent job in coverage. Manning uses those long arms for PBU’s, or blocking the view of the QB.

6. Audie Cole, N.C. St. A 6’4 LB that can play inside or out. Smart player who quickly diagnoses plays.

DT:

1. Akiem Hicks. Big Fella 6’4 324 from Regina(Canada). The LSU transfer opened a lot of eyes during the Shrine Bowl practices. Hicks displayed the ability to pressure the QB and stop the run.

2. Mike Martin. The former wrestler displays a lot of power and quickness off the ball. He was probably the best conditioned DT at The Senior Bowl. Martin will probably get drafted on the second day.

3. Hebron Fangupo. Byu Cougar that transferred from USC, is a guy that an stop the run and occupy multiple blockers.

4. Dominique Hamilton, Mizzou 6’4 320. Better at defending the run. Strong kid who can also keep blockers off his LB’s.

5.Chigbo Anunoby, Morehouse 6’4 324. Blockers find this guy a little hard to move. He takes up space and keeps blockers from reaching the next level. A powerful run defender.

FA’s:

DT Red Bryant , Seattle

LOT Jared Gaither, San Diego

RB Mike Tolbert, San Diego

WR Robert Meachem, New Orleans

If The Rams release a few players, their salary cap could go from 10 mil to appx 20 mil. These signings may be doable under those circumstances. What do you think?

by ValdezY on Feb 8, 2012 5:14 PM EST up reply actions

I love Ronnell Lewis,

But him at 16 is a bit of a reach now.

by JetKing55 on Feb 5, 2012 1:59 PM EST reply actions

I'm not sure why I did that

With Brown still there. I guess cause you guys are 3-4, right? I guess I just zeroed in on a OLB instead of going somewhere else to avoid the reach. Give some hints for my next one, if you would?

Wolf. Wolfgang Wolf

by dbcouver on Feb 6, 2012 2:40 AM EST up reply actions

Well I thinnk Lewis could go 3-4,

But whoever is available between Mercilus, Upshaw, Perry, or Ingram would be more prefferred, assuming RIchardson ande Coples are gone.

Bengals

Don’t really like the picks. Zack Brown seems a bit of a reach at 17 and just not a fan of Dennard would prefer Gilmore, we tend to draft bigger physical CB’ anyways (Leon Hall and JJOE were both 6ft plus)

by biggie22 on Feb 5, 2012 5:08 PM EST reply actions

We need a DT but we'll take Minnifield Over Fortson

With our new DC being a DB Coach and our pass happy division, I think we rebuild our secondary through the draft early and take a DT later. I like getting Barron in the 2nd round.
