Cordy Glenn 2012 NFL Draft scouting report
Cordy Glenn
6'5'', 348| Offensive Tackle | Georgia
Games Watched: South Carolina, Boise State, LSU
Agility: Cordy Glenn is a relatively fluid athlete. He moves very well laterally and displayed quick feet in pass protection this season. However, when in space against pass rushers, Glenn struggles. He also doesn't have a tremendous amount of range.
Movement: Balance is a big issue with Glenn. He bends at the waist far too much which causes him to lose leverage. He doesn't have a very natural stance as a tackle. In the running game, Glenn tends to be a bit upright as well instead of taking advantage of his strength.
Pass Blocking: Pass blocking is one of Cordy Glenn's biggest weaknesses, which makes him a better fit at guard in the NFL. He struggles to get off the ball quickly and doesn't have the awareness teams are looking for from a blindside protector. Once engaged in a block, Glenn has the strength and skills to keep the pocket clean, but as mentioned early, he struggles in space.
Quickness: Glenn reacts slow off the ball and often struggled with range during his final season at Georgia. Was able to display quick hands throughout his career.
Run Blocking: As one might expect given his height, Glenn tends to get upright in his run blocking. However, he has a tremendous amount of strength in his lower body, which he relies on to drive defenders off the line of scrimmage. I would love to see him drive through his opponents and finish his blocks.
Strength: Cordy Glenn's strength is a big reason why he is considered a first round prospect. He is powerful at the point of attack and is especially strong in his lower body. He is a powerful blocker in tight areas.
Technique: As previously mentioned, Glenn is not a natural knee bender and gets too upright when run blocking. He relies a lot on his physical attributes, which while solid, are not enough to consistently hold off NFL pass rushers. Glenn has strong hands in pass protection as well.
Final Word: Cordy Glenn is best fit for guard in the NFL, unless he gets a tremendous amount of coaching early in his career. He lacks the technique and natural instincts to be effective in pass protection. Worth a pick late in the first round as a guard due to his raw physical tools.

he would horrifically fail at LT
so, so slow… but I think he could be a pretty decent run-blocker, that’s about it
I'll certainly agree that he is a little too stiff and upright when coming off the snap and into his stance
but he can still stonewall defenders. If he can get coached up to produce that bend, he shouldn’t have a problem with the slower, stronger pass rushers at RT. He’d probably still be too slow at LT, but if he can learn to lower his center of gravity, he could prevent pass rushers from dipping below his shoulderpads and bending around him, which was his problem at Georgia at LT.
He’s still one of my favorite prospects just cause that massive strength, despite imperfect form (which is coachable) is awesome. He’s got all the tools to be a beast of a RT or G. Definitely the footwork, which is great for such a fat guy.

Agree on the feet
Reminds me of Andre smith, Alabama. Surprising feet for his girth. But Glenn does not seem to have the weight problems.

Again, NOT Andre Smith weight problems
Smith is a lazy fatbody, Glenn actually carries his weight as well as any 340+ Lb guy can.

Glenn is the kind of guy
Who you stick at guard, but if your tackle goes down, you don’t feel too terrible moving him over.
IMO
he will be a great guard or a good right tackle.

That’s how I feel too. I would like him at 24 for the Steelers to play LG.
Proud fan of Pittsburgh's professional sports teams and the Pirates too.

And nothing at all about Glenn's feet or hands?
Those are two things scouts will look at first when scouting linemen.

I would really hate to have a guy that's bad at pass blocking at guard
that’s probably worse cuz a pass rush right in the qb’s face is a more direct route. Really hope the titty monster is off the board well before the Giants draft or they pass on him.

Lol, his deficiencies in pass protection
Come from having to deal with space and speed rushers, if he was given a phone booth to work with he’d be fine. Just needs to refine his technique and keep his butt down.

I've seen players get worse (dave diehl...) when put in the so called 'phone booth' at OG.

Glenn is not David Diehl
Just turn on the tape from his Junior season. He started at LG and played great, looking very good in downfield blocks as well as in the phone booth.
And here’s some tape of him at Tackle going up against LSU:

I know he did well at the senior bowl, and really most of his college career...
….but I am not a fan of offensive linemen when they get THAT big. these guys are men playing with boys (creepy) on the college level, but the bust rate is high for those playing around 350.
I still don’t see him as a top 32 pick (minority) and certainly not a LT
