The Sports-Casters - Podcast episode 12
I was a guest on the site's latest podcast, which you can download on the site. We talked about several different topics – the first three picks in the draft, Cam Newton in general, what the Saints might do and a few other things. My part is about the last 35 minutes of the podcast.
National Football Post - Justin Houston in high demand
Following a strong pro day performance, the Georgia pass rusher is setting up several visits and workouts. According to Aaron Wilson, Houston has visits with the 49ers, Seahawks, Bills, Vikings, Chiefs and Buccaneers. He has private workouts set up with the Giants and Ravens. At his pro day, he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.57 seconds.

Charlotte Observer - Bowers surgery to affect Combine?
As you may know, Clemson defensive end Da'Quan Bowers underwent arthroscopic knee surgery following the season. What is unknown is whether or not Bowers will participate in the Combine. If Bowers can't, it might be difficult for the Panthers to use the first overall pick on him.
Daily Comet - Putting on the blitz
Writer Mike Detillier says we are "arguably watching the best group of quarterbacks in their prime at the same time in the NFL." How do you counter that? With the play of disruptive defensive linemen, of course. Fortunately, this year's draft is full of them with Nick Fairley, Da'Quan Bowers, Robert Quinn, Aldon Smith, Cameron Jordan and plenty of others.

Boston Globe - Finding Patriot material in this Senior circuit
Greg A. Bedard looks at some players from the Senior Bowl that could help New England. I can assure you, the story is better than that cringe-worthy headline.
Press-Register - Which players rose, which fell in NFL's eyes
Tommy Hicks looks at some players from Alabama (the state) who helped and hurt themselves. Among players moving up for Hicks is Alabama (the school) offensive lineman James Carpenter. Hicks nots that Carpenter played four positions last week. That may be Carpenter's future in the NFL.
ESPN Insider - Who helped and hurt themselves at the Senior Bowl
Scouts Inc starts with Leonard Hankerson helping himself the most. They also highlight Phil Taylor, Kendric Burney, Vincent Brown and Christian Ponder.

2011 Senior Bowl game winners
The South won the Senior Bowl over the North 24-10 today, but the final outcome isn't really the point.
Players were there to impress NFL personnel. While the practices during the week are vastly more importantly, some players are simply better on game day.
But In a game that doesn't allow blitzes and forces cornerbacks to play off coverage, it's hard to gauge who exactly had a bad Senior Bowl game. DeMarcus Love and Allen Bailey stick out as having a poor game.
However, instead of dwelling on the negative, find a breakdown of the game's winner after the jump. (Click on the photo to see a gallery from the game)
2011 Senior Bowl open thread
After a week of highly publicized practice sessions, the Senior Bowl game kicks off today on NFL Network. Use this as your open thread. The game starts at 4 p.m.
What to watch for:
- Jake Locker's accuracy, especially when he's not mobile
- Which other QB steps up (My guess: Greg McElroy)
- Von Miller's all-around game and if he can hold up against the run
- Will Cameron Jordan translate a great week of practice to game day?
- Ditto for Leonard Hankerson
- The breakthrough offensive tackle with Gabe Carimi out today
- Does Titus Young live up to his own hype?
Putting the 2011 Senior Bowl to bed with some key notes
The conflicting nature of reports this week made following the Senior Bowl this year extremely frustrating.
Todd McShay of ESPN said Jake Locker helped himself. Russ Lande of Sporting News said Locker hurt himself. Everyone else in Mobile was somewhere in between. Since I'm not in Mobile, that's why there was very little Senior Bowl content here on MTD.
However, there has been more coverage of the Senior Bowl this year than ever before. As such, some players received an incredible amount of press. See who after the jump.
Kendric Burney of North Carolina Dominating Senior Bowl Practices
Kendric Burney continued his amazing week of Senior Bowl practices on Thursday, picking off a pair of Ricky Stanzi passes and nearly intercepting Colin Kaepernick. Burney has looked great all week and he took it to another level today.
The North Carolina product displayed an exceptional ability to read offenses and anticipate the quarterback's reads during practice according to NFL.com's Pat Kirwan. Kirwan also noted Burney's ability to make up for his lack of straight line speed with his quickness and knack for getting a jump on the ball.
Burney sat out much of the of the 2010 season for the Tar Heels while serving a six game suspension for illegal contact with an agent. In the three seasons prior to that however, he started every game for North Carolina and was the epitome of a shutdown cornerback.
Senior Bowl Day Three: Former Boise State Receivers Austin Pettis and Titus Young Stand Out
The North team held its third practice of the week on Wednesday morning and Boise State wideouts Austin Pettis and Titus Young both stood out according to Doug Farrar.
The former Boise State Broncos joined Miami's Leonard Hankerson and San Diego State's Vincent Brown as receivers who have reportedly impressed scouts in the first few practices. While Vincent Brown, Leonard Hankerson, and Austin Pettis have displayed the ability and toughness required to make catches over the middle, Titus Young is showing an extra gear during practice as Charles Davis has noted.
